Karen so glad you enjoyed your well earned, well deserved holiday. You are all bubbly again and excited about the good time you had. I don't know why these odd few people appear to think farmers should not have a holiday or a few days off occasionally? They are just sad horrid people who don't understand! Keep up the good work, enjoy!
You're doing just fine Karen, don't worry about what anyone else has to say. You and your dad are doing great. You are really learning a lot about farming and everything that comes with it. Love you and your videos.
Another great video Karen, as for the reversing the trailer you're not as bad as you think. I know a lot of people who couldn't even get it in the door. Every farmer deserves a holiday, ploughing match, Tullamore, Balmoral, or a week abroad. The ones that are commenting probably are 5 days a week 9 to 5 workers.
I'm always jealous of the farming community for their community spirit. If someone is in trouble then neighbours always spring into action to help. I'm saddened to hear about those comments. You all have something so special look after it. Lift each other up Don't put each other down. ❤❤❤
We took one week off every year after harvesting or after planting. Our neighboring farm family watched over our livestock as we did in return for one week watching over their livestock.
Karen and Rob keep taking holidays,Wer part time farmers too and my wife and I always take a couple of holidays a year, our great friend/neighbour looks after farm when wer gone, keep up good work.
Some great points raised in the video. Ive often stayed at home to let the parents get away, no harm, every person needs the break away at some point. The reseeding looks mighty even in the second field. Some great work has been done in a short space of time. 👍
Thanks for sharing on your first day back. I am glad you had fun in Greece. A Holliday like that is only a dream for me. You was in Greece..your so lucky. I'm glad you had fun and made it home safely.
We had a young town boy driving a tractor at silage time. If I stood and watched and try to tell him, he couldn't do it. I learned to go away and leave him alone. Then he could do it. You have over ten thousand watching you! Don't be too hard on yourself you are doing fine. Regards to Dad, Cheers Jim in NZ,
Great job with the re seed Karen, you should get one of the jfc bale wrap containers, holds about 100/150 wraps, they keep the wraps dry so you pay less and are easier handle you'd be able to load the bale of wraps with the tractor
Of course you are entitled to your holiday, mentally and physically it is necessary. Grazing the reseed will promote tillering and will be good for the grass.
Welcome back. Another great video Karen. Your 135 is in great condition. The mic is working great. The reseed is doing really well. The camera is showing the growth really well. Everyone deserves a break.
Another great video Karen, it is a complete godsend to get away on holiday & nights away and going to the ploughing is another great event. People are by far too negative saying otherwise (even up to my face) when we go on away the neighbour looks after our farm 110%. hope you & Rob enjoyed the Ploughing & Greece. Keep up the Great work Karen, from West Cork.
When you get the chance you take off when you can I'm from Kentucky and I know a lot of hard working farmers who took time off You never mind what some people say You work hard And I enjoy watching your videos
Good For You for standing up for farmers taking a break Mental Illness depression is a real problem The Ploughing Match is an opportunity for farmers to discuss problems and share solutions while doing some socialization ❤❤❤
The re-seeds are looking great. Well worth the effort. With farmers attending The Plowing, or any trade fair, that’s as important as any day on the farm. Networking is so important to the farmers. Keeping on top of the latest technologies, meeting with sales people, maybe picking up a show deal. You’ve got a special group of supporters on this channel for sure, but sadly there are ignorant folk everywhere. I’m sure if we were to scrutinize their lives, as they are others, we find just as much to be critical of. Cheers Karen. Once again, lovely work on the fields. Let’s see what they look like next year. Just think of all that luxurious grass spreading out across your fields, just waiting for the cattle to tuck into it.
Hi Karen. This might be the first time I've written a comment on your videos. I see you on Instagram and always take a passing interest in what you are doing. You seem very confident in your work and your livestock. Look well. As for reversing that trailer. Short trailers are the most difficult , especially when you can't see the back end from your seat. You could try sticking a stake in each rear corner. That will tell you which way it's going. All the best. Lionel (ex farmer)
You’re doing fine and will soon get the hang of it I’m sure. In case it helps another way to do it is to hold the wheel at 6 o’clock (bottom or nearest to you) when you want the trailer to go left move your hand left and vice versa 😊
I wouldn’t worry about the reversing t will come to you after a while you won’t even think about. It your doing a grand job place is looking well and the cattle 👍👍👍
Well done , that is a great job of reseeding. Don’t worry too much about the stones a good rolling next spring should solve that problem and in this country we have the ability to grow stones in my experience.
Ur doing fine with the reversing, practice is the key, but Ur not as bad as you think. I'd say you would manage it better with the 390, ud have a better view sitting higher up, & the mirrors would help also, glad you enjoyed your holiday
Not necessarily, two wheel drive opposed to four. If the 135 has power steering and it’s light on the steering could be the better tool for the job.Turning circle is also better on a two wheel drive. Mirrors are useful but quite often can be broken and no use at all! You can always use seams in the concrete, roof centres/rafters/beams etc. Best to use low box and a few revs set on hand throttle rather than using foot throttle. If the trailer tips, you could part tip it(lift the trailer body slightly) so you can see behind. Not sure if it had a backboard? You just need more practice and you will get better at it.
I absolutely LOATHE backing up trailers. Any trailer with any vehicle. I just despise it. I get so annoyed. It never goes where I want it to. On another note, isn't driving a tractor just the best? That I love so much. 🙂🙂 That grass sure looks good too!!
Everyone needs a holiday - a mental health and physical break from work. Going to the Ploughing event where you are making and building on connections with like minded people and gaining work related knowledge - that should allow you to claim the cost as a work related tax write off 😀 For someone who backs a trailer once a year (and in the rain) I am impressed with what you showed (9 out of 10, always hold a little back as an encouragement). I haven't backed my own trailer for a while, but with practice I could confidently back it down a sloping driveway into a double garage beside a parked car without damage to either - it's all in the practice. A hint that works for me is to be able to see where the back corners of the trailer are in your mirror, I put a small pole in the frame so I know where my corners are backing down the slope, as soon as I can't see the corner and try to guess where I need to go I mess it up. Another handy hint I've heard and not tried yet, to stop the confusion inside your head about turning your steering wheel right to back in left, have your hands on the bottom of the steering wheel, if you want the trailer to go left move your hand to the left - in theory this would work.
Karen, welcome back from your hard earned holiday!! Your reversing was terrific and all your grass looks really green, well done! No time for nonsense like these people. Everyone deserves a holiday….
Hi karen, the way i was taught to reverse when i learnt to drive 40 yrs ago was if you see to much of your trailer in your mirror steer towards that mirror that will straighten your trailer up, its worked for me driving artics for the last 40yrs, good luck and keep practicing, it will come to you.
Hi Karen, Great video. The reseeds are looking great. 1 light grazing with the calves will make a great job of the 1st field you reseeded. Well spoken about how important it is to take a break away from the farm. Be that going abroad or to the ploughing for a day or 3. Any break away from the farm is really healthy. It sets a really good example for the next generation, and it shows them that it can be done and how important it is. Well done 👏
No use putting down fertilizer w/o water (rain!) Glad you had a "grand" time in Greece (your word, not mine---I don't talk like that..) but at 28 degrees C. we're chilly and startin' to put on jackets here in Fl. Always enjoy your videos. Try a bit of 34-0-0 on your pasture, it might just work.
There will always be those who like to knock, even when there is nothing to knock, those people are sad. On a good note, great to it greening up nicely for you, after the work put into it :) Keep on keeping on.
You touched on an important point there Karen. Farmers should not be targeted for taking holidays. It should be encouraged more and more and for mental health reasons. Even if it’s a few days away at the ploughing it is so important for people to get away and connect with other people out there. Farming can be a lonely life for many.
I'm dairy farming and we went to Poland 🇵🇱 this year which we loved, and we also have a few more wkends booked away before Xmas. Get busy living or get busy dying 😅
I remember when I was learning to back up a trailer, I would look at the front wheels and just point them in the direction the trailer has to go. This is so easy to see that you don't need to think hard at all and get confused or anything like that. Also i practiced a lot with a toy tractor. Worked for me anyway.
Hi Karen lovely to have met you in the ploughing ,, myself and my brother had a lovely chat with you and you deserve your holiday the same as everybody else hope you enjoy your holiday in Greece and Karen i am off on my holiday to a place called Kathmandu, Nepal and then going climbing Everest Base camp
Ah thanks very much for coming up. Enjoy the holiday although I'm not sure I'd call base camp a holiday. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience though
Yes well said , I grew up dairy farming and no one around to help that a person would trust to do what needed to be done to take a holiday. Or get enough money together to take a well earned trip.
Hi Karen. I've just subscribed to your channel and I've watched 4-5 over the last 24 hrs. You may have created my Irish farming addiction. Oh well , it could be worse but in a gfood way. I'm a farmers boy from NZ but left my grandparents dairy farm when I had enough money to travel overseas and now live in Port Kennedy, Western Australia. I find your farm is pretty much like my gramps but without the stones(Boulders more like it). I get goose bumps just looking at ya in the chill of the wind. We do get 28 degrees celsius mostly winter time so It's a great reprieve from the 35-48 in summer. Farms and naturally dry and dusty the further inland you go but down in the deep south of WA it's a lot milder bout 23-28 degrees and so much more rain and is why it's a lot greener. Your farm reminds me so much of my gramps farm but they have since been gone 15-20 yrs so I've enjoyed your days and nights on the farm and look forward to more. Great stuff Karen🐮🤠.
Thank you for subscribing. 28 degrees in winter?? I was in Greece at the end of summer and it was 28 degrees and it was too hot for me and all I was doing was lying by a pool 🙈😂
@@karenmoynihanfarm Well done. We don't mind you lying around our pool anytime! We call it the beach. It's only about 5000-7000 kms long. Plenty of room for the whole family and we'll chuck the old man on the rubber ducky so long as he let's us train him how to drive yeh.
Karen, welcome back, hope you had a fabulous break and feel refreshed for it If you only use the trailer to recycle the silage wraps, why not put them straight in the trailer, save packing the dumpy bags, to unload them again onto the trailer Another great video, love you honesty. Reversing a trailer is a matter of practice for sure, if you were using on a weekly basis rather than yearly you'd see the difference lol Take care Geoff
I used to fill straight into the trailer but I just don't have the room for it in the shed. it takes up so much space and was home to some furry friends so I decided to just keep the wrap outside out of the way and leave the tractor in the other farm shed
Kudos Karen for your honesty about reversing the T&T... other presenters would have organised a stand-in to do that, and taken the praise for themselves! What happens the plastic? Is there an alternative to one-time use? As regards the taking time off from your farm.... more power to your elbow! The depressive thinking that a GOOD farmer never leaves the farm is dangerous. Just look at the alcohol stats (29% of Irish farmers reported harmful alcohol use) and the recent headlines on suicide. You have only one life.... enjoy it as is best for you! Keep safe... your (nearly) neighbour in S. Kerry.
@@karenmoynihanfarm Again.... an honest reply... thank you. I fear the worst. The little research I have done with our local government's methods, indicates that the vast majority of our waste goes to landfill (with associated dangers to the environment, especially the ground water, and gas blowoff), or is exported for sorting(??).... and from there on to landfill (eastern Europe, Bangladesh). I do not attach blame to this. I just a wish that our deciders would recognise that we are pushing the problem down the road, for our children to deal with it. I find this immoral. But then morality and modern society often seem incompatible.
28c-here in sw france thats considered mild and farmers would love that especially at harvest time when it hits 45c-no choice but work on. As for reversing a trailer, itll arrive naturally like driving, confidence and practice
@@karenmoynihanfarm thought the same when I came here first but saw how they get used to it and have to get on with whatever is to be done. The humidity is low so the air is lighter and for combine work it's mostly done at night because the night humidity stops the grain heads snapping off. As for cattle all the same jobs are done hay etc. It's really not as hard as you'd think. Great videos and well done to you, best wishes
Karen, a couple of points… 1. In relation to taking holidays - We are a nation of begrudgers at heart(always have been) and many farmers can tend to lean a bit “ignorant” if you have me. I know so many people that will talk out both sides of their mouth in regards to farm work ethic. They will castigate the guy that has scaled up his dairy farm and is running around like a busy fool on one hand and in the next breath praise a young fella for working 14 hour days 7 days a week. They are divorced from the reality of life outside farming and blue collar trades. That life involves long weekends away, public holidays, 3 weeks leave a year taken at different times, Christmas break, weekends off, remote working, hybrid working and now 4 day weeks. Imagine that the general populace very slowly but inexorably moving towards 4 days of work a year and yet the farming community are still blinkered to the past. They read and listen to recent stats about young people not going into farming. They’ll widely tell their audience “sure who would blame them” and then a minute later deride the farmer taking a 2nd holiday in the year. 2. Ploughing Match- I hadn’t been for many years but decided I’d go this year. Like many have mentioned I found it very changed and can appreciate the concerns. That being said, going to the ploughing match at a minimum is the equivalent of a professional going to a conference. It’s a learning experience and in theory should enhance their work horizons. Even with all the online exposure you cannot beat looking at machinery etc in the flesh. You wouldn’t make fun of a worker going to a work conference somewhere for a day so why would you have a go at a farmer for going to the ploughing match? 3.that reseeded field is a credit to you….and a bit of inspiration for some of us no doubt 😂
I’ll never understand why some people feel the need to be so nasty. Having been a target recently, I know how hurtful it is. Of course you deserve to have a holiday or a break or a day out. YTubers should ignore and block them. They just get a kick out of people’s reactions. You and all farmers are great IMO! 👍👍❤
Stupid to say Farmers should not have a holiday !!! Some really silly people out there ! I love the videos, I miss my youth and farming ! People do not realise that to go to the "ploughing" they have to put in some many extra hours and arrange cover !
It's only practice Karen, u didnt do that bad anyway. Ignore those ejits u work twice as hard as most people, why shouldn't u have a holiday like every one else. That field looks beautiful, u will reap the benefit from it. Cheers, poth

@wiremu9876 😅😅
Karen, welcome back, hope you had a fabulous break and feel refreshed for it
If you only use the trailer to recycle the silage wraps, why not put them straight in the trailer, save packing the dumpy bags, to unload them again onto the trailer
Another great video, love you honesty. Reversing a trailer is a matter of practice for sure, if you were using on a weekly basis rather than yearly you'd see the difference lol
Take care
Geoff
Kerry.
Thank you!
We bring the wrap for recycling once a year but I'm not sure where they take it after that.
@@horsehead3055 I think that's where a lot of our "recycling" ends up unfortunately
great video
Well done , any loader for the winter coming on trail,be handy for the bales
No unfortunately not but I'm getting a front loader for myself, just waiting for it
Your tan is incredible,i hardly recognised
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video Karen
28c-here in sw france thats considered mild and farmers would love that especially at harvest time when it hits 45c-no choice but work on. As for reversing a trailer, itll arrive naturally like driving, confidence and practice
Oh that's too hot! how can anyone work in that heat??!
Karen, a couple of points…
Thank you so much and I must say your vocabulary is very impressive 👏
John oconnel I'm taking a wild guess here - do you work for a corporate? You're definitely not self employed or in farming!
@@SpudSlingsby I’ve had a corporate type career…but now full time dairy farming for about 5 yrs.
How anyone improve if they don’t get out and share knowledge. Thankyou Kaz.
Hi Karen. If u new someone with sheep they would make great job of the reseeding for you .
2 fine fields
Stupid to say Farmers should not have a holiday !!! Some really silly people out there ! I love the videos, I miss my youth and farming ! People do not realise that to go to the "ploughing" they have to put in some many extra hours and arrange cover !
Karen you are amazing
Well done for speaking up against the toxicity that is hustle culture .. no matter what the industry. Besides, in what world is two jobs not enough 🙂
Your field is looking super though besides odd bald spot but that will sort itself out too
Try rolling up the wrap hand tight from each bale as you open it. Easier handle each little bun afterwards!
Welcome back Home. !!
Welcome back another great video Karen
It's only practice Karen, u didnt do that bad anyway. Ignore those ejits u work twice as hard as most people, why shouldn't u have a holiday like every one else. That field looks beautiful, u will reap the benefit from it.
Cheers, poth
