Lufthansa's €2 Billion New Cabin - First Class Double Suite

- I flew on Lufthansa B747-8 from Los Angeles to Germany to see their new "Allegris" cabin product launch. The current Lufthansa Business Class seats have some shortcomings and lack privacy. I flew on the upper deck of the legendary B747.
Lufthansa unveiled its €2.5 Billion cabin upgrade program "Allegris". The most impressive product is on Lufthansa First Class which features a floor-to-ceiling double suite in the middle. The suite can convert into a double bed with a 43" TV screen.
Lufthansa's new Business Class also features a 2m long bed and suite. There are up to 7 different seat configurations in Business Class. Watch the video for the details.
Less impressive are the Premium Economy and Economy, those are fairly standard and without much improvement in my opinion. In the video, I gave my impression, pros and cons after trying out these seats.

I love the fact that Sam calls out the airline for showing off the best seats in economy rather than the normal ones. I really appreciate his honesty and although I love seeing the first class seats, I will probably never be able to afford them so seeing what economy is like really helps the average flyer

Well, what‘s interesting about „normal“ seats at such an occasion? ;-) of course they‘d show their best seats, just as a car manufacturer shows his best or latest car at car convention.

These fixed shell premium economy seats need to die. Way to call them out in person. Sometimes you wonder if these designers have even sat in the seat longer than 5 minutes.
It’s the same seat as on Swiss airlines. I did not like the seat as a plus size person. Too narrow

But if I observe wrongly the cabin crew pay extra attention on 1 st class & business card more ( because passenger pay more).

Indeed. How difficult is to develop a product that focuses on comfort and space, stripping down all the other unnecessary “premium” elements of business class? No need of a lie flat bed. Just somewhere I can work and rest properly.

You video brings back my memories when I took the LH fights from Beijing, China to Frankfurt, Germany in business class in 2016 when 747-8i was first put into the services. The true king of the sky! Couldn’t wait to see the new setup for business and first class on LH. Thanks again for another enjoyable and informative video!

There are still some really good European airlines but I agree many of them are quite poor quality
I think they're catching up, more than anything. I'm flying LH business on the 748 this summer so I'll be ahead of the refit. Just means I'll have an excuse to do it again in 2026, though! :)

Back when their 747-400s had first class, they had a seat where there is a bed next to the seat. I can see the inspiration that their new first class drew from that seat

Thanks for this video Sam, I think it’s a very fair assessment of the Lufthansa product, both current and future. Honestly I’m rather disappointed with what I’ve seen. The materials, especially the first class “curtains”, seem rather cheap, and little about the business class seat seems industry leading. Plus I totally agree, that premium economy seat looks terribly uncomfortable!
Also there’s no privacy with the large slits that are the door handles either!

Well, first class seems undewhelming compared to Qatar or Emirates who do it more with style but Business seems solid with good space, privacy and 2m long bedding possible. I dont know, economy is economy, it is ok but Im not sure what can be improved, bicycle is already invented :)

We have to wait further to see how these mock up fitted onto a real plane like. I bet it is going to be better in the cabin environment as it is designed for. The curtain blocks lot of noise, I actually like it as it feels much lighter than closing the door.

I like how often Lufthansa retrofits there aircraft knowing that they just got there 787 a few months ago and A350 a few years ago knowing how much they care about there customers is a great thing to know

I flew Premium economy this year on a 13 hour flight from Frankfurt to buenos Aires and it was really, really great. It was very comfortable and I had a lot of leg room. This is a huge downgrade sadly

Very fair review @SamChui! I appreciate how you explored every dynamics of the cabins more especially the differences between the Premium Economy and Economy. And I agree, the shell seating is why I choose Economy over the Premium because of being unable to recline.
FIrst time I flew a shell type seat was Cathay Pacific Sydney to Hong Kong - actually in their economy. Never again. That exact same problem, just puts you on a downward slide into the shell in front, with your neck at an awful angle. I read that they replaced them pretty quickly after many, many complaints. Can't believe Lufthansa has installed them in their premium economy!

The F cabin double suit isn't for "strangers" it's what couples will book or a signal individually. We'll be interesting to see how they price the two options.

thank god the Lufthansa group is finally moving to a good business class layout. I don't have the money to fly business but I will soon have enough miles to do an upgrade but the old layout would mean no isle access or no window. Also strange for solo travelers to be put together with a second.
Don't get too excited. You won't even see the first new delivery with the new product until 2024 and the retrofits will take years if they ever happen. This was pure marketing since they know their hard product sucks on most long haul aircraft. You'll also be disappointed if they do an equipment swap.

That brings back memories I used to fly a lot in a Boeing 747 300 and the 747 400 my mom used to work for KLM as a stewardess also in the business class so everytime she was working I went with her all over the world from 5 years old until I was 17 now 42 and she retired in 2007 she started working in 1973 definitely brings back fine memories seeing this seeing how much it's changed the business class when I was little until now.

I was recently on a new virgin a350-1000 and it's a beautiful plane. My main complaint is that when someone reclines the seat in front of you economy there is no space. I dont think economy seats should recline because of this.

Yeah, wasn't terribly impressed. Certainly an upgrade from the old very outdated products but it will take years for these cabins to be across the fleet.

Current LH business (and first) is very outdated though, so the new ones will for sure be an upgrade for sure. Even though new business looks a bit messy tbh - too many different seat configurations in just one cabin.
@@FlyWithMe_666 Yeah would hard to be an upgrade from current LH products in business class in particular. Didn't really pay attention to the PE cabin since it's not a cabin I fly on long haul. I generally avoid LH because most the fleet is so outdated
It is good design, Person in front of you reclining wont affect your table, screen or space. It has drawbacks but i think the positives are better than negatives.
That part made me laugh. All of a sudden, a few minutes later, he changed to a more positive tone. I think he was reminded by the staff that they flew him here to promote the new line, not hate on it lmao.

It's always interesting to see views from the biz end of the aircraft. The one thing I thought when you went upstairs was how tight the seats looked and the lack of privacy. It was clear you felt the same. Your videos are really snappy and really nice views of the aircraft too. The news seats look good albeit a bit of time for the retrofit. If I had the cash I wouldn't mind giving it a go 😄
Ain't gonna lie...miss the authentic and majestic yellow crane Lufti logo. Flew the 747 classic from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires in 2014. Unforgettable experience.

Another great video Sam! I appreciate your honesty! Long time LH Business Class and Economy Class flyer here (LAX-FRA/MUC) and the past 5-6 years I've been using other carriers because the LH product is just terribly weak but this new Business Class looks quite nice! Looking forward to fly it!
But when you compare them with US Carriers (which is mostly the alternative when you fly FRA/MUC - LAX) even the old Lufthansa was way better
@@ich_halt8094 Sometimes but not always.If we're talking 15 years ago, yes. But even the current American Business class is better than this last gen 2-2-2 seat business class with LH. Or the Delta Business class suite is also much nicer. The new LH business class looks promising and I hope to try it this year.

Or, what if 2 person travel together and just book 1 first class and the other book economy, and when it’s on the air, the person who is in economy come to the first class joining the other person since they are friends or couple. How about that?

Amazing how far the airline industry has come. I flew from Australia to USA and on to England in 1971 on a Vickers super VC10. The flight was very long, only a curtain separated economy from first class and you only got a BOAC magazine to read all the way. The Vickers VC10 and super VC10 were the grand ladies of the sky.

Funny that no one has talked about seating... will those new seats are really comfortable? How Lufthansa has improved them compare to all the gadgets they brought in ? Sad because i always enjoyed travelling First Class with Lufthansa. Now every passenger are going to be hidden with as sens of claustrophobia. It's about time Lufthansa upgraded their business and first-class seats. They were falling behind a lot of other airlines in Europe in terms of comfort and space, and passengers were complaining about it. The seat that Sam sat on the 747 showed how cramped it was. The new premium economy seats look pretty bad but the economy seats look better.
Interesting that they've gone for the private suite for their first-class on the A350. Looks similar to the Emirates and Etihad ones but less luxurious. It will likely be cheaper but still very expensive.

Best Business Class seats in LH 747-8 are the ones in the lower decks middle row .

We should all appreciate Sam's honesty here. Lufthansa has been offering substandard product in all classes and at premium prices for too long. The new 1st class and Business classes are nice but not affordable to mortals.

I love how Lufthansa plans to fly the 747 for many years to come, if it weren't for the spirit of airlines like Korean Air and Lufthansa, the 747 would be a long gone commercial airliner
Finally there is some movement to keep up with the market again. ❤ Lufthansa still has some work to do, but this is a very good start.
The new premium economy seats look terrible. The reason why people pay extra is to have the leg room. The game changer would be to get rid of the “economy” in premium seats should have much better leg room, and wider seats. More comfortable chairs would be nice as well.
1st class Suite and the iPad has a security wire attached, so it’s like a 1980s remote.. also the curtain with sound deadening material has two holes where the handles are..
I love how people get so excited about suites on airlines when if this same suite was on the ground, it would be absolutely the worst apartment suite with everything super compact.
