Lock your dogs away when having a delivery.
"My dog wouldn't bite anyone" is usually bull and most people haven't a clue about their own pets or animal behavior.

So true. I remember when my cousin was little and had a paper route. He used to tell us about this dog and the lady would never have the dog locked up and always talked about how nice the dog is. Turns out it was a dachshund (wiener dog). He could not convince anyone that dog was trying to bite him. Turns out that so nice dog had already bit 3 people. So much for that. Just because they are cute does not mean they do not have a mean bite. They have teeth.

The lawsuit states alleged trespassing? Seriously? It's like saying UPS or FexEx or other delivery services that provide drop off mail or packages to your house that you authorized to delivery which means allowing drivers to your home to drop them off on your property. I see that Angie Harmon is all over the media. But unfortunately there are unanswered questions there. Was the dog unleashed and roaming freely during the delivery time? Was the home fenced to prevent such incidents? The driver was at fault for using someone else's driver account and Instacart did the right thing to cancel the account immediately. Instacart after such incidents need to have either fingerprints or facial identity similar to UberEats. What does the driver mean by being attack? Also was the driver licensed to have a gun. There are conflicting information on where he was bitten or not. It sucks the home security video was out. I do understand drivers with guns, teasers, or pepper spray to defend themselves from dog attacks. There's reports of delivery drivers getting mauled while during their job. Sorry I don't buy all dogs are friendly to everyone. It may be friendly to the family but some dogs do react differently. Also what's on the police report. The media doesn't help. Alot of possible facts but no truth. But the bottom line is a beloved family dog was killed. This was a tragedy. And in time the real truth comes out.

As a dog owner, and knowing that my dogs will do anything to protect me… my personal opinion is that if you order delivery, you should keep your dogs inside- insta cart, amazon, Uber will give you a time the items are being delivered, be ready and track it. Is she serious? She’s suing the company AND the delivery guy? I’m actually so sorry for the dog because he’s been the victim of her negligence. If you expect a delivery, your dog should be kept inside until the delivery is made. Even if your property is fenced (and it would have been a good thing to mention if the place was fenced or not because the negligence is even worse if there’s no fence), your dog should be inside or you should be at least with him outside and control it. In my country, the law is you have to control your dog in all circumstances, all the time. You can’t leave it alone in the garden (fence or no fence). She’s the one who would be legally held responsible if it happened in my country. Instacart or the delivery guy aren’t responsible, even if the delivery guy could have just left the package on the sidewalk instead of rushing to the porch when he saw the dog was getting aggravated by his presence-of course, running toward the home was the opposite of the right thing to do because 99% of dogs will react to that because it’s abnormal behavior and it feels threatening to them and you’re going toward them and their home. But well, you can’t expect every delivery person to be familiar with dog communication and how to deescalate a tense situation. They also shouldn’t have to deal with your dog because you can’t be bothered to have some respect for them and put your dog inside in case the delivery person is fearful of dogs. Especially since any dog, and I really mean any dog, can bite someone depending on the situation, his health, the behavior of the person, etc. I’ll concede that it’s not normal for a delivery person to carry a gun and he might be sued by the company for that, especially since it’s in the guidelines, but she really can’t expect the guy to wait until he’s been bitten before defending himself. And he doesn’t need bite marks or torn clothes to prove that the dog tried to attack him. I actually hope he sues her for putting him at risk when she knew that someone was coming to deliver a package. This is so irresponsible and I say that as a dog owner. You can’t act like that when you have a dog, for their safety and for everyone else’s safety.

If the dogs demonstrated no aggressive behavior in the past and got along well with every single other delivery that happens multiple times a day, there is no reason to think this was any different. I play a cop in a criminal show that displays the worst of crimes on the show yet have zero surveillance on my property. Doesn’t seem to make quite sense. Yes agree the guy shouldn’t have shot the dog and should have taken other measures by not getting out of the car and contacting the customer. But Angie and their family also have some accountability of their own by being responsible for their own dog especially if they know strangers will be coming by for how could they predict their dog will react to EVERY human being the same way - as dog owners it is their responsibility.
Of course they’ll blame and go after Instacart cause that’s where the money is and they could at least get a monetary settlement there.

The man purposely got out the car aggressively with off leash dogs. He saw a nice upscale house and most likely decided to take advantage. Hence coming out with his gun drawn. He even said I’ve been texting and calling you to come get your dogs. If the home you are delivering to isn’t answering and you see the dogs . Take a picture of the dogs and show why you can’t deliver and move on to your next order. It’s that simple. The man seemed to be looking for trouble.

I love dogs. I once went for a walk, and a large dog slipped it's leash and jumped up to greet me. I gave him a big hug. But, that's me. There are people who are deathly afraid of them. My wife is somewhat fearful because in childhood, she witnessed a dog-attack on a friend. And dog owners need to respect those people. While shooting the dog may have been an extreme reaction, we don't know the delivery driver's history or state of mind. The lesson here is, keep your dogs under control when expecting deliveries or guests. And I am truly sorry for the loss of the dog. It was the innocent victim in all this.
