as a longtime supporter of this game, I dont think i can just reccommend it to anyone because its amazing, my favorite game of all time. but 50 dollars. but unless they add more content to the original. i dont think i can ever go up to someone and say "hey you got 50 dollars at hand?" Im getting it ofc, but i wouldnt force anyone else to do so.

Ah, LIVE A LIVE. The very first Square game that Yoko Shimomura did the soundtrack for… and she’s COMING BACK TO DO THE REMAKE’S OST AS WELL!!! Also, the directorial debut of Square mainstay Takashi Tokita, and he’s returning as well. It’s been 28 years, but we can all finally play it! And it’s coming back even better than ever.

@@PhenomUprising I just think it’s amazing that Tokita-san and Shimomura-san are coming back for a game that was a first for them. That alone makes it worth it. In fact, I’ll be getting a Switch with my tax return, and one of the games I will preorder IS going to be LIVE A LIVE.
I hope that this does well and the HD-2D initiative picks up even more to bring other classics over that we never got or are hard to get, like Treasure of Rudras, Treasure Hunter G, Bahamut Lagoon, and the Quintet Trilogy.
Quintet Trilogy would be amazing, especially since Terranigma never made it to the US and has essentially achieved mythical status just like Live-A-Live did. They're also action RPGs, so seeing how games in that genre would work in this art style would be super interesting to see. I imagine those games are next on the list to be remade in this style.
I was against the idea of a Chrono Trigger remake for a long time until I saw how artfully they're treating DQIII and Live A Live with this HD-2D series.
Seeing this trailer and the buzz around it has been like finding a lost Christmas gift months later, or discovering that your favorite author had a lost book that's been found. This is one of those games that I've seen mentioned for years but knew very little about other than that Yoko Shimomura did the soundtrack. Hearing that incredible score, seeing all these different characters, and reading the comments from people who have emulated the game, have me positively HYPED.
Do not sleep on this game. I would argue it is not just one of the best SNES Square RPGs, it is one of Square's best RPGs ever. The stories are fantastic, and the soundtrack is banging. Definitely a Day 1 for me.
I never played this game, nor did I heard of it. Seems really nice. Can someone tell me if the story is like "octopath traveler"? I had a problem with that game, the characters never interact with each other, you just have a party and complete each story on its own. Watching this trailer, it gives me some good vibes, but I'm afraid it's something like Octopath Traveler all over again
@@galford90 The game has a very different structure from Octopath. All of the scenarios are completely self-contained chapters until the very end (and seriously, don't spoil yourself on how). There's even multiple endings for some of the scenarios, and many of the scenarios undergo some major genre shifts. Like the distant future scenario is sort of survival horror and involves almost no combat at all, the modern day scenario actually doesn't have an overworld to travel in and is more of a homage to Street Fighter, and Japan scenario is sort of stealth with endings based on how many people you end up killing (probably one of the major things that inspired Undertale, it's well documented now that Toby Fox was a huge fan of this game).

Wild Guns Reloaded isn't quite HD-2D or pure Wild West (though that's the main setting it's mixed with scifi stuff like giant robots) but I recommend it nevertheless
This was the original Japanese trailer. I also love how they've been showcasing _him_ in all the trailers when official art didn't even exist for him until around 5 years ago.
Square Enix used him in a few cameo roles in other games like Theatrhythm, Final Fantasy Dimensions II, and a japanese mobile game called Holy Dungeon. His existence in itself isn't spoiling anything, so I think its ok to show him off.

All of them deserve to advance. We still went with Yuan before, were very happy with him, and plan to go with him again. He's a great kid and a great choice. But the others are legit, too. Respect.

@@mathieuswales575 its similar to romancing / saga frontier. The difference is, in the SaGa games you choose from characters that follow a fairly non-linear gameplay loop and occupy the same world. In Live A Live each character has their own world and their stories are quite linear. The characters in Live A Live do come together at the end to fight the last boss though, after you beat all their individual stories.
@Jeff Cotten I haven’t gotten around to octopath traveler yet. I have a big backlog of games. For an SNES game though I’d say Live A Live was done really well. Definitely more accessible than the Romancing SaGa games which were very trial and error.

I remember reading about this game in magazines back in the days. But it was never released outside Japan so I never could play it even if I wanted to. Years gone by and there were fan translated ROMs, but now it's official for the rest of the world now.
I remember playing it at release, back then I just play games with a guide and still had a blast with it. Of course its so much better later with the fan translation rom.
The Japanese version comes with a board game! Also, and I'm not trying to diss the current cast who are doing a great job, but I personally think it would've been kinda neat to have Johnny Yong Bosch as Arika and Cam Clarke as Matsu for the English port as another nod to the Mecha chapters' inspiration.
FYI: LIVE A LIVE is a game from the Squaresoft era that was composed by Yoko Shimomura and directed by Takashi Tokita (FF IV, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve). It also has a musical theme that inspired Megalovania (Megalomania). Many of the ideas of this RPG, would later be implemented in Chrono Trigger.
That seemingly new arrangement of megalomania the boss theme in the last couple of seconds is so good I can’t wait for the full arrangement. Can’t wait to finally be able to play this game that I have only heard legends of.

I never thought that I would live to see a day where such an obscure RPG would get a full overhaul and global release in today's era of gaming. Truly remarkable and gives me hope for more like it to follow in its footsteps.
The graphics immediately reminded me of Octopath Traveler and the different story of characters across different time periods... yea I'm getting this game for sure.

I haven't played the original but always wanted to because I really like the OST. Just finished the remake 3 days ago and boy, what an experience. Love it very much. I had my share of turn based games mainly RPG but this game made me keep on playing. It sure has its shortcomings but it is very engaging nonetheless. Beautiful game. I keep coming back to this trailer these past few days because of how awesome the Gigalomania intro slides into Live A Live Main theme. Thank you Square enix and Nintendo for bringing this title outside Japan. I don't care if it's turn based again, Sell us more new HD-2D games or remakes of classic squaresoft and enix RPGs with HD-2D graphics.
One of my favorite Super Famicom games! Yoko Shimomura is also one of my favorite composers and hearing the tracks redone sounds beautiful like from the Legend of Mana remaster.

This has been on my want-to-play list ever since there was that Region Locked episode. I would never have expected it to be remade, and translated! So excited~
I remember I tried the fan translated version as a kid, but couldn't make heads or tails of the story so I'm really looking forward to trying it again.
You know, I didn't have the best of times playing the original, but as I experienced it at the end of my days as a student... it stuck to me, and I still have strange nostalgia for it. I'm relly excited for the remixed music, especially the Middle Ages era's.
To be fair, the way they are presenting Oersted IS different from everyone else. There is always small details on each aspect of his presentation that stand out, but you probably wouldn't notice if you didn't think about it. There is also the fact that we FINALLY have a lot more official art of the character, something be barely even had outside of the content from the crossover with that one mobile game.

I'm glad these games are getting the HD-2D treatment but when it comes to honoring final fantasy they just make mobile ports

FYI: LIVE A LIVE is a game from the Squaresoft era that was composed by Yoko Shimomura and directed by Takashi Tokita (FF IV, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve). It also has a musical theme that inspired Megalovania (Megalomania).
Many of the ideas of this RPG, would later be implemented in Chrono Trigger.

I was always having hope that they would remake this game, I thought it would be in 3D, but this HD 2D is way better. I love the voices, and man Megalomania at the end sounded amazing. I can't wait to finally get a chance to play this.

I never thought that I would live to see a day where such an obscure RPG would get a full overhaul and global release in today's era of gaming. Truly remarkable and gives me hope for more like it to follow in its footsteps.

The graphics immediately reminded me of Octopath Traveler and the different story of characters across different time periods... yea I'm getting this game for sure.
This is the origin of Octopath. It was heavily inspired by liveAlive. But the dimension is more epic than Octopath.

I haven't played the original but always wanted to because I really like the OST. Just finished the remake 3 days ago and boy, what an experience. Love it very much. I had my share of turn based games mainly RPG but this game made me keep on playing. It sure has its shortcomings but it is very engaging nonetheless.

I keep coming back to this trailer these past few days because of how awesome the Gigalomania intro slides into Live A Live Main theme. Thank you Square enix and Nintendo for bringing this title outside Japan. I don't care if it's turn based again, Sell us more new HD-2D games or remakes of classic squaresoft and enix RPGs with HD-2D graphics.
This remake is literally the number one thing I could ever ask for from videogames, I feel like I'm dreaming. That new version of Megalomania is SICK.
One of my favorite Super Famicom games! Yoko Shimomura is also one of my favorite composers and hearing the tracks redone sounds beautiful like from the Legend of Mana remaster.
I believe this game was the first Shimomura-san composed for Square.

The chapters are all self-contained, they range from 30 minutes to about 3-4 hours each. You beat one, and then move on.
Shinobi chapter is the one need really focus on. There are multiple way to clear (both very challenging) and a lot of hidden contents.

You know, I didn't have the best of times playing the original, but as I experienced it at the end of my days as a student... it stuck to me, and I still have strange nostalgia for it.
I'm relly excited for the remixed music, especially the Middle Ages era's.
It's more of an open secret at this point, but now it's gonna be awkward talking about and then people ask "Oh where's the knight guy".
To be fair, the way they are presenting Oersted IS different from everyone else. There is always small details on each aspect of his presentation that stand out, but you probably wouldn't notice if you didn't think about it.
There is also the fact that we FINALLY have a lot more official art of the character, something be barely even had outside of the content from the crossover with that one mobile game.
At least they’re still keeping a major twist a secret ;)
