    Another benefit of wood t track is if you have a sawstop and have to cut through part of your jig, you don’t have to worry about setting off the brake

    I like to use #6 flathead machine screws washers and nuts to keep my t track in place. Much more stronger than very short wood screws and no need to use any glue, so the track can be reused.

    I started as one using aluminum in every t-track application there was but then turned to wood, and have using wood since then. Surely, wood has those disadvantages but they have never manifest in my work in years as I have never tore a wooden t-track.

    For positioning - wood. For clamping - aluminum. And by the way, on my drill press table I installed a fence that pivots on a flathead bolt placed in a rear corner. Thus, I have only one clamp to manipulate and snug down while I adjust the fence with the other hand. There is almost always enough table area to support the workpiece when the fence is angled on the table, and if there isn't I just use a support stand.

    I use two options. AL T-track and when ever possible, Matchfit Dove tail clamps. Granted they use different clamp. But the two cover majority of what I need.

      iPick 4Fun I use all three! I think it's just a matter of the right type for the situation.

    I’ve used deep groove for bolt and shallow groove for 1/8 aluminum flat stock to form the T portion. You can use longer screws more closely spaced.

    microjig has a good system, even mdf is strong enough to tightly hold the clamps.

    Nice summarisation. I have only been using my self made t tracks from beech wood. No tearout and holding without issues after 4 years of use. All done with a 12 dollar t shaped router bit. Can recommend

    I like the wooden track. I use it for a stop on my drill press fence and for a stop on the small table saw sled.

    Good overview. I agree... it always depends on the needs & use and I use them both. I've been finding the MatchFit dovetail system to be of great use for many things, as long as the clamp or part being clamped provides proper reinforcement directly over the slot so it does not pull the clamp out (as you pointed out). It is far cheaper and easier to install over t-track. I routed a large number of groves across my assembly table to create a criss-cross pattern to allow me to clamp anything I need down. Works very well.

    Not as strong as Aluminium, but routing a dovetail type track is stronger than a routed T type track. I've found that the trick is to match the clamp shape to be as close to the track shape as possible to spread the load. For this, if you have a 3d printer, it's pretty easy to print your own clamping heads. Oh - and also, instead of clamping down so hard, try to spread the load over a wider area. If there is space, always use two knobs instead of one.

    People use CA glue to reinforce threads made directly into the wood. But it won't work for soft woods...
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    Have you worked much with the MicroJig Matchfit system? Very similar to the wooden track, only downside is that you have to buy specialty hardware and clamps from micro jig. However, if it has the proper setup, like the wooden t track, I actually use my dovetail clamps like an end vice all the time.

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Justin Faure I have. My tapering sled and my tenoning jig both utilize Matchfit dovetails. As well as slots in the faces of my workbench to act as a vice. I really like them but they don't work for a drill press table very well simply because the track clamps bar and handles get in the way too much. And the dovetail hardware is too small to utilize normal hold-downs.

    There's an outfit that makes a dovetail shaped aluminum t-track, never did find a dealer in the US who carried it. Probably the best of both worlds; won't pull out, doesn't require big or deep screws

      @@InspireWoodcraft When I watch your normal videos some times there's no ad. Others have one skippable ad. To me it seems other channels have two or more ads and often you cant skip them. So your channel is very refreshing. I know and totally understand ads raise revenue which enable channels to put out content, we all deserve to be paid for our work etc., but it's amazing the how I feel a little more relaxed and less distracted before I open one of your videos knowing there's a chance of no advertising telling me something I have no interest in.

    what about Microjig matchfit system?

    • @InspireWoodcraft
      @InspireWoodcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Matchfit system doesn't work so well on drill press tables because track clamps get in the way and the hardware they have is too small.
