I had 15 Pro max last year, went back to pixel 8 pro, fell for hype of S24 Ultra this year, sent it back disappointed, bought the Pixel 9XL Pro XL. Awesome phone, best camera on the market, I wasn’t even tempted by the iPhone this year, and from the videos I’ve watched, I’m glad I wasn’t! Cheers from Devon. ❤

I have both (I work in mobile app development and my company gives me phones to test on). The Pixel takes better photos, but the iPhone does everything else better. The Pixel 9 Pro is my favorite Android by far, especially since it’s free of Samsung’s bloatware.
If the Pixel UI looked a bit more mature I would consider the Pixel. iPhone is just very reliable and consistent under any circumstances. I had the Pixel 7 Pro and it wasn’t great with lot of issues. Switched to Samsung which offers great performance and software. This year I switched to iPhone and although it’s a bit boring, the experience is very good and because I like to film a lot the iPhone is the better choice for me.
If you don't mind iOS, iPhone seems to be a great option between Pixel and Samsung, it has great power similar or more powerful than Samsung and also a great camera similar to the pixel, with much better video capabilities. Samsung lacking a great camera , and pixel lacking reliable power of either snapdragon or A18 pro chip.
I'm really hopeful Google does something new with their CPU next year for the pixel 10. Tensor was already outclassed when they launched with it years ago. I bought the pixel 6 pro anyway, and I had so many issues with it, it made me finally try iphone lol. I'll switch back whenever the pixel has a modern, competitive processor since they insist on charging the same flagship prices as everybody else. iOS can be very annoying to a lifelong android user, but I cannot deny the phones are peak quality. I've had no issues throughout my first year of owning an iphone. My biggest complaints are no universal back swipe gesture, the keyboard needs a number row, and Siri is bad... Like, really useless. Hopefully, Siri improves with Apple AI soon.
Apple and many other smartphone vendors are suffering from over-exposure when it comes to image processing. It's an obsession to brightens things or people's faces (looking at you, Samsung) than they actually are. I like how Pixel handles highlights, might be a bit darker for some folks' liking but it really brings out the mood and tonality, kinds like a real camera. Also, it's way more easier to recover from the shadows than it's from blown-up highlights, when shooting JPEGs which most peoples do. To its credit Apple has done a remarkable job of drawing out extra detail from the iPhone's hi-res modes, I'd like to see that from Pixel without the over-sharpening of course!

Dude, better battery for the iPhone? Don't make me laugh. Having iPhone 16 Pro this thing doesn't last a whole day, and that with the 120Hz refresh rate set on constant 60 and the Always On switched off for less battery consumption. The iOS 18 even the recent major 18.1 update does almost nothing to sort the issue, and the whole system still feels like a bug-fest from hell.. Even the new Siri is dumber than the old Siri. Asking it what year in the future will it be when November 20 will be Saturday gives the answer of which day of the week Nov. 20 is for 2024... I agree that Google still didn't get the camera algorithms well enough yet to provide consistent behavior and better low light photos, but the iPhone's x2 cropping and x5 optical zoom are both really bad. What Tony Northrup videos to understand why. Photos which are not RAW MAX have 9MP or less (usually less) and around 1.5-4 megabytes. So the quality is really bad, and it's shown on zooming in on images. Also, sometimes the iPhone would take snapshots of people or objects and they'd show out of focus in the images taken. It's the same inconsistency as it was with the iPhone 15 Pro's images. The new "feature" of the "Styles" is inconsistent - it's not always available in images taken. Seems that for some odd reason it's not available for RAW photos and sometimes not for shots taken with the main lens x2 cropping.
What is wrong with all of y'all idiots calling these large phones compact?? These phones don't fit in people's pockets properly, so since when is that compact?
I ask myself what is wrong with idiots who are unable to see where the market's going. There are no more 5.8 displays. Or under, these are compact phones in 2024, move on & get over it. Or you can always put a custom rom on ur old phones 📱 nonetheless, these are compact phones in.Today's world have a nice day

Yeah. small, that would be the iphone mini. Wait, that was pulled after the 13 series. Now the standard is the Max's, XL's and ultra's...6.7 - 6.9. hmmmm, maybe 6.1 - 6.3 is small???

The only reason why I'm happy that these iPhone 16 Pros were released, they helped stop Google's 🦬💩 that all youtubers (especially Westerners) had started repeating like a mantra "Power is useless, optimization is key", well, now it turns out that the iPhone 16 Pro are overpowered (at least 2 years ahead of the Pixel 9 Pro), super optimized, especially has an 🍏 at the back 😈, and this for the same price, or even less in certain markets and circumstances, this will clearly slow down Pixel 9s sales in the West, and elsewhere (especially in Asia), the Pixel 9s were never even an option to begin with 🤧 Frankly, this Apple-like 🍏 logic "offering very little hardware but selling very expensive under the guise of magical software optimization" should not prosper on Android 🤧 Ps: iPhone 16s Pro are clearly better smartphones and deals than Pixel 9s Pro, however, they are not the best on the market. 🚶🏽♂️ 🚶🏽♂️ 🚶🏽♂️

That perfectly describes me. I'm interested in the smarts of a smartphone, and in my opinion that is the pixel.
A couple things...pixel goes up to 3000 nits.. the pixel camera also has secured face unlocking that works with banking apps

The Pixel 9 Pro's photos are more pleasing to the eye than those of the iPhone.
iPhone pictures always have a yellowish tint.

Im obsessed with pixels. I didn't even realize you were comparing it to something else.
Pixel's camera has a more natural look while the iPhone has an orange tint and brightens the face and is over sharpened all throughout.
So as usually, at the end is a preference of OS which is a factor which of them to choose :) These days those flagships are so similar....

The iPhone oversharpens all photos. They look bad. Look at those dreadful daytime ultrawide shots.

Why the pixel 9 pro looks so taller instead of being the same 6.3 inch display? Apple looks more polished from the front.
Blame your eyes and optical illustion
More bezels and different screen ratios.
The iPhone has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and the Pixel has 20:9.
Exactly this - Pixel is a narrower aspect ratio, so it's taller to get to that 6.3-inch diagonal measurement.
