    I great wee loco released within the Hornby 100th Year Anniversary. I acquired my Limited Edition # 831/2000 model for £98.99 last week (Feb 5th) from Kernow Model Rail Centre. I just checked before typing this and they still have more than 10 in stock if you are looking one for yourself or as a gift. If you get one of the angled plastic plate stands, you could have your Peckett Plaque sitting out on display. Otherwise if you like a cuppa from your army mess kit mug, then this would be about the right size and shape to use as a coaster, lol. As for the loco a good review by you Sam as usual and I am pleased with the models livery printing, details and running.

    Please explain why sprung buffers are an issue? Most rollingstock dont have them and I dont see what they would add to the enjoyment of the running of a model

    • @highbrookendmodelrailway
      @highbrookendmodelrailway 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sprung buffers are a nice touch, it's just nice to have an extra, more realistic feature, even though they might not be functional when using traditional tension locks.
      If you modify the couplings to use magnets or close couplers, which are produced by other companies, then the buffers may actually spring back when coupling depending on the product used and how close the couplings go.
      It is a nice feature, even though it may not be used. Like a "roast chicken" setting on a microwave, you may not actually use it, but it's nice to have it there!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely - it's the same with any detail... ultimately pointless, but a representation of the real thing... so that's the point! I say such omissions should be reflected in the price, which is why I usually mention it!

    Hi Sam, Very nice loco. Love it ! A bit hairy... but a fantastic performer and amazing puller even with the 3-pole motor. It just needs a 'stay alive' to cross the points on slow speed for aren't they shunters prototypical ? I would give this an overall 9/10. (You're a bit harsh here imho). Thanks for the nice review. I recently got a Bachmann DC Thomas, and he doesn't seem to run well at all. He is very picky, and even if the slightest connection is lost, he cuts off COMPLETELY on Bachmann Nickel Silver EZ track. Since I'm only starting, I used a micro fiber cloth on the rails and a rubbing alcohol tipped q-tip for his wheels. I have only opened him twice, and his gears grind together loudly. What am I doing wrong? I'll accept any help! Thanks in advance!

    A beautiful model. I still don't have a peckett myself, although I'd prefer the standard peckett light green or the manchester shipping canal blue liveries.
    Ideally, I'd get Peckett 2049 of 1944, named General. It worked at Doxfords ship yard in Sunderland, alongside loads of RSH crane tanks. But it isn't a W4, so would need a rtr model modifying, or a kit with modifications.
    Seems odd that they haven't tried to upgrade to a standard 6-pin dcc socket, 4-pin is just silly in 2021.
    Question is, which is your favourite grey steam loco? This peckett, the 1361, or the garratt? And will you be getting the grey W1 to match?

    Sam, you know what I would like to see in model form? This probably sounds quite insane. I really want someone to make Pyongyang Metro rolling stock. Agreed with you. Despite not having a 5 poles motor, the Peckett W4 is a must have, especially if you are modelling light railways or industrial ones.
    Pity for the plasticky parts, especially on a limited edition model. It can be accepted to keep the price low on the standard issue (but this is questionable), but here...

    Heya Sam. I've a Peckett W4 after watching your reviews. I tend to purchase a new model per year to run around the Christmas tree. In other reviews of Pecketts you mention that it stalls on the points unless it is electrified. I've done a bit of googling and I'm unsure what that means. Mine is installed with a DCC chip and on the profile its max running speed is 10mph which means it stalls on the points all the time. Can you advise what I can do to either change the points or extend the contacts of the model so its pick up gauge is enough for it to sale over.

    It is a shame that some details aren't metal, or that they have been painted in a plasticy colour. @@SamsTrains I just calculated how much I paid for it. Think it was a good price. 129 Australian dollars, which is somewhere in the 70 pound range at today’s rates. Judging by some of the rrps on some of the models I’ve seen on this channel, that sounds fair cheap. It’s not top of the range, but the buffers are sprung, it’s got some separately fitted handrails, and I think the tender footplate is die cast, but I don’t know for sure.
      I don’t have a railway to run it on right now, it’s in dads shed in a non operative condition, but I keep this model with me because I don’t trust dad to take care of it.

    That's not all. My new NCB Electrotren Tank Engine in red and black, with yellow lining, arrived at the same time as the Peckett. The Tank Engine, also from ebay, has yet to get her first run. I've given in to Princess Elizabeth, not because of you this time, but rather of my own accord. As you already know, Paul Boyland is keeping the Princess, an 03 Shunter and the same ghostly grey Peckett engine in Kelly's Kept Cabinet. Alongside the Thomas Train Set and some more human figures, that is. Spookie and her ghost twin Spunky will be up to more mischief than Thomas & Friends characters Bill and Ben. Human figure Oliver is up to no good in any case. When you have looked at my new videos, you can tell me in the comments whether or not you think he'll get away with his sneaky Hopper Wagon ride. Sounds like I'm stirring up trouble, I admit.

Could you maybe take some food to the shop, distract Paul, and feed the Princess? Her life may depend on it!
