Ive watched a TON of "how to start a booktube" in the last few weeks as i get ready to start my own and yours was so helpful. I actually have so much more confidence about it now, so thank you ☺️
Omg thats such a huge compliment, thank you!!! You’re gonna be great ❤️! The key is to not take yourself seriously and to just post, even if you feel cringe in the beginning. We’re always SO much harder on ourselves then we are of eachother. Im sure you’ll be killer.
Thank you for making this! I just started my booktube channel and this video was one of my inspirations to doing it. This was extremely helpful as someone who knew nothing coming into this space :)
I am starting a Booktube channel in February and call my channel Crimson's Whispering Books.... but I will be a faceless booktuber and I just want to share my love of books and d9 it as a hobby I am a Voice Actress known as Crimson Whispers so I am going off my name in that way 😅
CONGRATS! Oh no that is a GREAT idea to use your voice acting name, cause you already have a following of people who "know" you. Definitely lean into that!
@LeeAScott13 Thanks hun I am so excited to put my first video up soon (I will be a faceless book tuber but I just want to share my love and passion for books)
I created a booktube channel earlier this month called Bookwhisper and I've really been indecisive on how to about stuffs like if to do faceless contents or not, which genre to start with and so on I'm really glad I come across your video tonight. Thank you
Omg you’re welcome ❤️ In the beginning its like throwing spaghetti at the wall. Try a bunch if ideas in your head and then whatever feels good to you is what you should focus on.
This is so great! Tell me why my brain immediately wanted to the exact things you said not to do just because you said not to 😂 I'm going to have to have the video saved for when I hopefully finally start a channel 😅
thank you!! I feel like since starting ive felt like there's things I didn't know or wasnt so sure about, so thank you for being so frank and comforting and welcoming :))
I've had a makeup/mental health youtube for years now, it's called Amateuraries, but I wanted to start a booktube for my love of writing and books. I just don't know what to name my channel except for using my pen name. I plan on starting to film tomorrow, hopefully two or three videos since I've been doing it for a while - and get started on that. Maybe a video a week. It was hard to keep consistent with my other channels.
Pen Name would be smart so that people can find your books easier cause your name will be engrained in their head. Personally, I would start posting 1 video a week. Even if you film multiple in a week, just store them for when you have weeks that you just dont want to film. CONGRATS!!!
You gave such good advice. I started my booktube channel back in June and it’s definitely a learning curve. I wish I found your channel at the beginning, it would’ve saved me a lot of headaches.
Oh thank you!!! Yeah, you just gotta play around to do the "fancy" stuff. I often have random zoom ins, cause Im just trying to learn how to do the damn thing lol
for trimming clips, in final cut pro, i was able to add "key shortcuts". so like when i click L it cuts the clip, clicking P trims the beginning of the clip to where my mouse line thing is, and if I click O it trims the end of the clip up to where the mouse line thing is. Its extremely helpful to speed up the editing process. I wonder if you could do something similar in the software you use.
You're so welcome! Yeah thats going to happen. Honestly you really need to focus on not growing yet. That will distract you. Just focus on learning how to film, edit, and coming up with ideas. You need to create that foundation before you move to the next goal of growing. I know its hard to not focus on it, cause it feels like validation. But just trust me.
Thank you for highlighting Davinci ❤ had I used it way earlier I'd have saved a lot of stress haha. I hope every aspiring or new (or old!) booktuber find this video :)
Thank you for this. I have 6 huskies & I record while my fiance is with them, and I'm always so nervous about upsetting somebody if they can hear them howling in the background. I'm currently editing my next haul & I think I'm going to run with this, and maybe give it a section in my video! I'm so glad this video popped up on my homepage. Thank you!
You’re welcome! Omg 6 huskies!!!! I can already imagine the chorus in your household with them lol. Yeah I would just edit them in lol 😂 and introduce them!
This is such a great video. One I definitely needed when I started. I've been doing booktube for a year, and I've been stressing way too much on the numbers and subscribers. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for this video 😭 I abandoned my BookTube channel because I lost motivation, but I want to make videos again and this video was really helpful 💕
So I started on TH-cam a few weeks ago, doing videos both on my reading but also on my bookish etsy shop (Under the same name) and I really love this video. About half of it I already knew from my own research, but a few things I didn't and I am SO grateful. Also imediate subscribe because I love your personality and you sound really fun to be around.
An amazing beginner's video! Thanks so much for all the helpful tips! ❤ I currently work in PR & marketing (nothing to do with books) but I do very little of the visual stuff (I'm the one that hides behind a computer a lot), so nice to get some newb-friendly tips on how to get started.
Oh yeah absolutely! Im glad you liked it. If you ever have questions, feel free to ask. The main thing is just to force yourself to film and post. Thats the hardest in the beginning
@@maggiesbooksandstuff it sure is. I’m working on it. I think I’ll definitely be the one that just uses hands for now but I’ve given myself a week to pull together and loosely edit a bookish video. Wish me luck! I don’t know whether it’ll be the pulling together the title & end cards or just talking that’ll the most challenging… I suspect the latter. My brain is full of words and insights but I always struggle to articulate them.
@@maggiesbooksandstuff yeah it turns out the stuff I was worrying about was ok. I managed to make the cards, edited the footage etc. I need to re-do sections as I should have dug out my tripod. What’s worse though is that YT wouldn’t let me post with the music I was allowed to upload in the programme I was using. They gave me the option to swap out the music in Studio but I can’t figure out how to fade in/out and do multiple clips as the music is in different sections. That’s on my list of things to work out this week.
I watched one recently that did a recap video as a slideshow (probably with Canva?) with stick figures and other scribbly art. It was hilarious and I'm thinking of trying something like that.
Oooo interesting, Id have to think on that, but I would think you could still do things like wrap ups, tier rankings, and what not. But I feel like you would need to get good with graphics. Like there would probably need to be lots of motion with graphics and text that pops up on the screen. I also make things harder then they have to be sometimes, so lol, take that with a grain of salt!
holy cow!! 😱 this is exactly why i love watching how other people edit! i have canva pro but didn't know about the glow for the outline. I've been exporting to another app and manually drawing the outline by hand!!!! this is game changing, thank you!
Im gonna give you a little push and recommend you post them. You’ll be surprised how much easier it is to post once you already have 1 video up. That first hurdle is the biggest thing to get over, literally hitting publish is the hardest thing at the start. Worry about scripting on future videos ❤️. Trust me 😎 you’re gonna get better and better as you go.
Omg no dont have a breakdown! Ill see if I cant start a TH-camr thread on The Hideaway Discord and that way tubers can talk to eachother and ask questions ❤️. We’ve all been in the same place!
What a great video! honestly the explanations and content were great, but the best part is your positive energy and you demistifying the failures :) thank you!
I'm sure it has gotten easier, but it looks like a lot of work. About how long does it take for you to create your videos? I'm also wondering if your first video is labeled as such, I kind of want to compare and see how much you have grown in the past year. Any way this was really interesting.
Thank you. So Ive done videos where i basically just trim the beginning and end, and that was maybe 2 hours for filming and editing. Now I probably film in an hour and then edit for maybe 9 hours. But thats cause I trim more out, use sounds, music, graphics, create motions, play with zooms, etc. I approach editing as “playtime” of that makes sense. Cause K want to try and learn new things or just experiment. I wont lie though, I would love to simplify my process. But I do like having sounds and zoomies and such.
Ohhhhhh yeah, thats true. You can read small passages and provide commentary, but you cant read an entire book out loud, that gets classified as copy right infringement. So I just provide reviews, give synopsis, and occasionally do reading vlogs where I provide my thoughts on a book as Im reading it.
Ok so i started a channel like years ago then abandoned it. So im going to try again. Thanks for these tips.
