    I can't believe that guy folded 3 Jacks to Phil after Phil stood up and pitched that fit when he raised. For Phil to sit back down and re-raise with a K on the board, there's no way I'm putting him on a set of kings. There's zero chance I would believe he had a strong enough hand to 3 bet after that little spectacle. I would have snap called with the 3 Js

      If I recall correctly, there was quite a bit of drama after this aired over ESPN editing this hand, fabricating it to create more action. You can see when they show the 10J in Tony's hand he has a stack of chips in his right hand and the cards in his left, the very next fold frame he isn't holding any chips and the cards have switched hands. I think the general consensus between the editing and the improbable fold was that this hand never happened.

    10:44 - 18 years later and I still think to this day that Tony D didn’t have trip jacks in this hand. You can see at that mark from his hole card cam, the dealer is dealing the rest of the table. I feel like they spliced footage from another hand to make for good tv. You think of how poker players played back in ‘03, that’s such a huge fold. Tony D doesn’t look in the slightest bit that it was a monster lay down to possibly a J with a higher kicker, or K’s full.

    We make fun of Phil but you can see from the look in his eyes when he goes to his parents how much it means to him.
    I’ve heard people who know him say it’s not an act and he really is that driven and it really does mean that much to him. I believe it.

      I have a lot of respect for Phil despite his antics. I was bullied for years at school, and as an adult I have always felt this need to prove to others that I am something.
      Whenever I get insulted even if it is just banter by a friend, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I always feel like I have to win to feel relevant around people. When it doesn't happen, I can cope with losing. But in poker where you lose to complete stupidity, that is really really hard to take.
      I do think Phil tries his best to curb his behaviour but cannot help himself. It's very difficult to not be proud of yourself when you probably didn't feel much love growing, but then become one of the greatest at something.

    It’s funny because back in the day when most of these clips are from (20+ years ago) poker players where super super average even really bad players, so it really wasn’t hard to be good, Phil was just an average player, his self belief that he was and still is the best player in the world is truly a comedy sketch, the meditation segment of this video sums up phils fantasy world existence.

    • @fishwatch8677
      @fishwatch8677 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is what people like you don’t get. You say the quality of players was really bad, so it wasn’t hard to be good. Well where did you learn to be a good player back then? Was there a plethora of educational material easily accessible online? Were there good quality books in stores and libraries? I believe there was Doyle Brunson’s book published in the 70s and that was about it.
      You are standing on the shoulders of giants. The quality of play gets incrementally better because we get access to the knowledge of the players who came before us.
      To call Phil Hellmuth an average player after he has won 15 WSOP bracelets over 4 decades, made 64 WSOP final tables, and has over 24 million dollars in tournament prize money is ridiculous. Average players don’t win consistently.
