Finally, we have another painting video up on the channel! It's been a while, and after so many art hauls and swatching videos recently, it's nice to be back with an art process video. In this episode, I'm working on a couple of my signature landscapes with the little white cottages, using the handmade watercolours I recently purchased. I hope that you find it inspiring and that it encourages you to try handmade watercolours too!
@@NatashaNewtonArt Hi Natasha! I love your style and moody palettes! I was just wondering if you have another suggestion for that sky color as "Dusk" is no longer offered on Dan Barret's website? I love the color so much, but am wondering how to mix it (maybe indigo and perylene maroon?) or purchase another brand (homemade or not). Thanks!
@@ladyjustice619 Hi Danielle, I can't think of one off the top of my head that is the same as this colour, but I think that experimenting with Indigo and Perylene Maroon could be worth doing to create something similar!
So great to see you here! I love theses beautiful paintings. Thank you for sharing and spending time here. Your art class sounds very interesting. Fran
I loved watching and listening to.this video, and not just because I’m missing you while you’re away! I so enjoyed watching your technique with these handmade watercolours, the effects that you achieve with the granulation give a real atmosphere to the landscape. A very harmonious palette of colours too! I look forward to seeing the paintings you create with your travel palette in Suffolk, and it will be exciting to help you with sorting out the greetings cards and prints on your return! I hope you will get a chance to share some of the sights and sounds of your trip in the next Artist’s Vlog. Thank you for creating and sharing another calming and informative movie. 💛😘 xxx
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video and that you like the new pieces! I'm loving the granulation of the handmade colours; I think it really adds an extra depth to the landscape paintings. Can't wait to decide upon the prints and greeting cards with you! Exciting! 🤗😘 xxx
What beautiful effects the handmade watercolors have, especially the sky. Such serene landscapes. Your voice is so soft as well so as I was painting it was simply lovely to pause and watch you working and simply listening. Back to work for me.
Thank you! I was really pleased and so thankful - I've been taking a couple of months to just experiment with my work without worrying too much about creating pieces to sell, so I haven't earned very much in those two months! So this was very much needed. 😊
These are beautiful!! Thrilled to see your Handmade colours at work and I’m super excited about you diversifying into prints. I also still can’t wait for your pallet video. I’ve been really keen on seeing your process as I am swatching all my colours and getting ready to build my next pallet of colours. Hope you have a great trip!!
Thanks Erika! I used to offer prints a while ago, but it's been quite some time now...I'm excited at the thought of having them in the shop again! I hope the palette video will be available sometime soon. :)
A very enjoyable video. I love your artwork! It would be good to have a video comparing what you find are the pros and cons of painting in watercolour, gouache, acrylic gouache and acrylics.
I was waiting for this video after you showed all your new handmade watercolours!. I’ve been buying handmade paints too from different artists and they are such a joy to play with 🤍✨
@@Vanitasmortedigital yes! I feel exactly the same, just knowing that someone carefully planned, prepared and sent the paints fills me with inspiration

I've been waiting for this video! What are you using for the sky on the first piece? The granulation is magnificent! I would also love a video on how you found your style🥰
Thanks Brigitte! I'd say that the main difference is that sometimes it takes a little more time to rewet/reactivate them (but they vary a lot) and also the 'grittiness' of some of the colours...but that's not necessarily a bad thing! They also smell amazing when you're using them due to the clove oil used in the production.
Thank you for this lovely paint along 🤍 would you pls share how you prep your paper? (Tape, gesso, dipped in water or water brushed on to stretch it,etc)
Hi Christina! I just use a heavyweight cold pressed watercolour paper (I really like Fabriano Artistico or Canson Heritage 640gsm, but I do use others too). If I want to add a border, I mask off with MT masking tape or washi tape. And that's it really! :)
your work reminds me of the Vermont folk artist Warren Kimble, but I like your shapes and colors better and your style is more sleek and modern which I enjoy!
I already commented on your instagram, but I'm going to say it again. This first piece is simply stunning✨ I love the art process videos. You make me want to paint, paint with handmade watercolours (I did buy few and made a list for more in the future) and your work inspires me a lot. Can't wait for the art haul and the promised palette set ups ;)
Oh, and I'm not sure if you saw my answer to the comment on the jackson's art watercolours swatches video, but I finally got an answer about the pigments in the Venetian Red. I still think that it's a little or a lot fishy, but what can you do ¯\_("/)_/¯
I'm sorry, I think I must have missed that (TH-cam doesn't put the replies to previous comments in the 'comments' section of my dashboard so I miss a lot of them unless I remember to look elsewhere!). Ooh fishy, you say...now I'm curious.
@@NatashaNewtonArt it's really no problem :) (if you want you can still read it, but additionaly, I'm talking about this case below :) ) their answer was really vague and too be honest I still think something is amiss here. Maybe it's true that the paints are not completely "theirs" (the sennelier logos that are occasionally under the wrapper). Either way I don't think it's possible to have an older product that is not mentioned anywhere else, aaand also that you don't know about, and have to check with the warehouse, and that at first you say this type of mix doesn't really exist. Ehh... I mean I found the half pan recently featured on their instagram with the two pigment mix (I think this made it clear to them I didn't make it up 😂) , so it's not a one time thing. It's all really frustrating, I don't understand why they can't simply add a new colour, so you don't accidentaly get the mix you don't want. I actually ordered a tube of it, maybe I'll get lucky and get the dream two pigment mix, but it's also possible that I'll get the PR101 only. I'm risking it, because I've gotten sort of obsessed over this paint in the last couple of months 😅
Hi Natasha……..what type of paints are you using? I love your style and the muted palette…….I just got the 24 set from A Gallo and some of the colors look similar
Thanks! :) I've been using MT tape - it seems to work really well! This one came from Choosing Keeping but I've seen this brand in several different stores.
@@NatashaNewtonArt Thank you. I will try to see if I can get it somewhere closer by. Else I have to take a trip to London when restrictions are eased. :D
Have you tested the lightfastness of these colours yourself? I would be worried about the lightfastness quality if I ever bought “handmade” colours without any oversight from a quality control team.
I know which pigments they're made from and that they're lightfast pigments. A lot of sellers will tell you whether the paints are lightfast or not and add pigment information. I have some that I know aren't lightfast and I'll only use them for sketchbook work.
