I've got a ROG Phone 7 non-ultimate and I am not a gamer. I just love the fact, that its battery lasts for like ever (I'm exaggerating of course, but still quite a good battery) and the performance is awesome.
The ROG's cooling fans are too heavy and for me it actually makes the game experience a bit unenjoyable. Just use a watercooling phone coolers like Nishen, they're completely quiet, much cooler, and much lighter.
they skipped four because si means death in chinese. i’m also still using the 2 but i just got the 7 in november now the 8 is out already 😂i love these phones
I feel like Asus needs to market the gaming phones as everyday driver phones also make them more everyday driver friendly like the S24+. Snap Draggon gen 3 chip, 24gigs of ram 1440p display, 165Watt charging, Samsung cameras, big battery, expandable storage and headphone jack located at top of phone. This would be a crazy good phone and I'd 100% buy it imo.
I bought the Asus ROG 6 because it did not have a notch, two forward-firing speakers, a headphone jack, and a huge battery. I like the toned-down look of the ROG 8, but the notch (and the reduced battery capacity) make it completely uninteresting for me.
@@coolcat23 Then you're gonna have to deal with a notch no matter what, or get a phone with a bezel anyway and lose out on screen real estate regardless. The ROG 8's bezel software is the best of both worlds.

It's good that ASUS is making the ROG phone appeal to a wider audience, while maintaining the powerful performance of a gaming centric device. Let's see how well it'll sell with this approach. 👏
No mention of the price? For the record, it is £1299 in the UK for the only model available, the 1TB/24GB model. That is a hefty price, especially as it may only receive 2-3 Android OS updates and the cameras are so-so. With the downgrades it also is less interesting. An easy pass.
Asus really has cut not just the corners, but the entire middle in order to appeal to everyone. I definitely appreciate the IP68 rating and the matrix display on the back, but it is not worth so many downgrades. Most noticeably, the sustained thermal performance, you know, the one thing ROG phones were supposed to be amazing at. And I'm talking about just the phone itself, without the AeroActive Cooler 8, because it doesn't come in the box unless you buy the ultimate edition, not to mention the average person isn't going to be carrying it around everywhere with them, especially in their pockets. Last year the Xiaomi 13 Ultra actually had much better sustained thermal performance than the ROG phone 7 Ultimate, and that isn't even a gaming phone. Not to mention that already has IP68 dust and water resistance, fast wireless charging, amazing cameras and everything else a true flagship has. This year Xiaomi introduced many phones with vapour chambers twice or even quadruple the size, so Asus really needs to step up. All this wouldn't matter if the phone was actually reasonably-priced. But no, it costs far more than other flagships and offers less, while not even doing the main thing it is made to do properly. No.
Those things are not even that bad for me. But far the worst downgrade are the speakers. Pretty much ever since Rog Phone 3 they were leading by far, now it's meh, just to thin the bezels. It used to be a smartphone for some, now it's a smartphone for none. I'm sad.

You never mention the price. This phone is ridiculously expensive at $1,200 for the base model. That surely has to be a factor in whether or not to recommend it.
i don't know why they can't make front speaker fully waterproof though, for me. it looks like that kind of speaker much more easier to waterproof than the top bottom speakers
Damn, I really liked the four buttons on the previous active cooler, got quite used to them. That small detail and replacing the ultrasonic triggers might keep me from upgrading my ROG phone 7 ultimate.

And tbh i am very satisfied with. So if you ask me if i will buy the new rog phone? Surely not. It feels a huge downgrade while paying a huge amount compared to what i have now.
do note that this gen rog phone have a hole punch screen similar to most flagship phone, non symmetrical speaker which is front facing and botton firing with 1.3 and 1.0cc, no dual dac, and a tone down design
Can you still split the air triggers into two triggers, making 4 triggers? I'm really disappointed with the downgrade to the air triggers. Literally the main reason I wanted this phone...
nice vid, unfortunately its hard for me to get the rog phone 7 here in the UK (been out of stock on the asus site for ages) and i don't want to get one from aliexpress as i've heard people had issues with those ones. touch response being really slow or mobo issues etc. so i've just pre-ordered an rog phone 8 although i wish it still had the dual front facing speakers and the subwoofer, though I think its time to replace my rog phone 3 otherwise i'd like to wait for the rog phone 9 instead. I agree with others, theres too many downgrades here.
I have the redmagic 8 pro. I was thinking of upgrading to the Asus due to the camera updates, but damn, it's a pass for now, the redmagic camera system is not that bad anyway. I'll wait for the ROG phone 9 if they will go back to making legit gaming phones, if not I'd, probably stick to the redmagic series.
@@sysechobrentheir speakers are unfortunately completely ass somehow. Well, not that bad maybe but worse than an iPhone which is quite bad compared to Rog Phones.
For me, I like the new changes in every aspect. A gaming phone with good camera is what i prefer rather than having 2 phones with different purpose. The one thing I still can't get it though is Asus decision to still insist on having 2 android upgrade. The standard of all phones should be 3 years and 4 years security update
@@immanuelkant7552 Yes i do. Why? Because I'm a casual gamer who likes to use my trustworthy old but gold headphone that still uses 3.5 jack. But now, I'm considering to get one
Im using ROG7 right now, if they put like normally "ROG" do with like frontfacing speaker etc, and not "normal" looks phone, i might change upgrading new model every years.
i have used two generation and 3 rog phones, its fine in the beginning but as the updates comes for the game or the software updates it slows down and you want to throw it away in terms of gaming nothing can beat iphone, a true gamer review and one more thing i forgot the customer care service is the worst
I haven't owned any ROGs yet, but i always have wanted to buy 1. I think they should remain one version full gaming beast phone. Make the mainstteam version separetaly. No ?
As an iPhone user moving back to Android after years of Apple use, looking for a gaming daily driver, this is basically what I’m looking for (still on the fence with Red Magic too). Regardless of Red Magic or ROG, both are an upgrade in every aspect from my iPhone 13 Pro Max. It’s crazy though, how many people are bothered by the punch hole. Even the S24 Ultra has it too. I guess that’s the point though…. Asus is trying to make the ROG a flagship for more people. To do that, you have to have a decent front facing camera. You can’t have quality, and under-display at the same time. The tech doesn’t support that, yet. I get it for the “pure” gamers, though. My custom PC at home is over the top. The Red Magic 9 Pro fits that perfectly. No IP rating, a built in fan, RGB colors, uninterrupted screen, etc. It is purely a gaming phone. ROG 8 Pro = “Daily driver friendly” gamer phone Red Magic 9 Pro = Straight gamer phone I kept bouncing back and forth, but I think the ROG makes sense for me. More of a daily gamer, and I’m already paying for $1300-1500 iPhones anyways. So price isn’t an issue. I guess it’s a different view from someone coming back into this from Apple all these years.
if the price is no problem, personally i would rather take the S24 Ultra than the ROG Phone 8 Pro. The price difference between the Redmagic 9 Pro compared to the ROG Phone 8 Pro is imo not justified.
since the hot, slow and b.draining s22 i don't buying Exynos phones never ever again and so after using my s23 for nearly a year which looks very beat up now, i just bought the Asus Rog Phone 8 last week and i'm pretty happy with it. i absolutely don't game on any phone I've ever used. i just wanted a decent looking and fluid performing Snapdragon powered phone with rounded corners. the Rog 8 comes with a pretty nice package and a charger in the box. coming from more than 10 years of constantly buying and using Samsung phones and tablets it's just a little bit different using the Asus Ui. it's so much more fluent and better performing than any Samsung I've ever had in my hand's, it's so much better!! i'm very happy with the Rog 8 so far. i've paid 1090€ and i think it's relatively fair for the package you get. i'm buying Asus motherboards and graphic cards for many years and Asus always delivers at very high quality standards. if Asus would build a tablet i instantly would buy it. there are options outside the Samsung ecosystem and Exynos crippled devices and when you don't want to buy an Apple iPhone or support the CCP with buying an Xiaomi or Oppo, i think Asus i by far the best option for you.
can you guys make a gaming tablet? like asus rog phone but bigger version with 4 air triggers for portrait and landscape gaming. please be the first to make android gaming tablet..
Correction on the accessories. They actually have announced a new controller that is supposed to be the successor to the Kunai. It is called the ROG Tessen
Why don't they make the phone like a Nintendo switch so that you can slide controllers in. And if it was modular and you can add a speaker or power bank or a hybrid speaker power bank.
The only reason why I want to get this over S24 Ultra are air triggers. Do you think they are worth it for aiming in first person shooters (emulators)?
They could have gone to an all aluminum frame for better passive cooling, ofc no wireless charging but not a bad thing for a gaming phone. and also, widen those bezzles cause nobody plays with a phone case and narrow bezzles makes your palm do unwanted touches, either this or make a case that doesn't cover the back of the phone and include it in the box.
The thing about ROG Phone 8 is that they have removed front facing speaker to accommodate the new display with punch hole camera but they still did not go for center bottom USB C. The issue is that many external controller will not be compatible with the current side bottom position and we obviously know that Asus no longer give out new accessory for ROG except for the usual active cooler.
I have compared rog 7 and 8 side by side (speakers) the speakers on the rog 7 is louder and the bass is big. Rig phone 8 has got better bass response then rog phone 6 but it's Lil less compared to Rog phone 7
The base model costs the equivalent of 1385 usd in Norway. I can not believe they still use a display with full hd+ resolution at that price point in 2024. Some manufacturers had 1440p displays on their phones 10 years ago. They even downgraded the battery capacity when compared to the previous model and removed the front firing speakers. iPhone 15 Pro Max and S23 Ultra are much better phones in my opinion.
They're going good direction. Im a gamer but i wont buy a gaming phone that has bad cameras and that strange gamers design. I want beautiful elegant gaming phone with all the bells and whistles. Im using oppo x5 pro, buying gaming phone, even with better cpu, feels like a downgrade for me
Shame about the front camera not following what 7 did, or doing under the screen. That thermal throttling is also sad, but being IP68 is helpful in return.
And I thought they have only downgraded the selfie cam and fron facing speaker. Can believe they have the stomach to do the same with the air triggers and led notification. Damn
And that thermal throttling is horrendous. This idiot just talks about it like it’s fine and expected. With that kind of thermal throttling there’s absolutely no reason to call this a “gaming phone”.
good but also bigger and wider screen take the old design back add an stock for microsd good camera as zenfone build in fan a very very good heat control more affordable a weight a little bit light and grippable also the 5 yrs android updates make phone last longer whlie i want this new phone more upgradable compact finally a good battery life and less heavy cooler and can function with hdmi streaming .
why is there a notch? next they will get rid of the headphone jack. gaming features like this are why people like it. big bezels are good for gripping the phone i hate notches
How did this phone get a 4.6 rating. It’s has no exceptional strengths in all the aspects tested. It’s supposed to be a gaming phone but I guess in the quest to make it a more daily driver they have removed most of the aspects that made it a proper gaming phone. Heck without the cooler the performance and throttling is the same maybe even worse that other Sgen3 devices. And the pricing in the UK is ridiculously 😅.
@@Baleygrr Well maybe the 8 pro is faster at certain tasks. But the 7 pro has dual stereo speakers which the 8 pro does not. (Earpiece doubles as a speaker) So in a side by side speaker test the 8 pro would get brutally RAPED by the 7 pro, right?

Finally a telephoto lens in the camera
One thing i wana know is the rog 8 pro sound stronger then iphone 15 pro max /s23 ultra?
Yes. It has louder speakers
Can you still split the air triggers into two triggers, making 4 triggers? I'm really disappointed with the downgrade to the air triggers. Literally the main reason I wanted this phone...
You can't, even no more swiping gesture
@@fara.r.8181 Well that sucks. Rather get the 7 then....
@@joshk6066 you can replay that part in this video.
Yes, ROG 7 should be better than ROG 8. I even still use my ROG 6 as a daily driver.
The split trigger thing felt kinda cumbersome to use for me so I never used it.
How do you split trigger ?
nice vid, unfortunately its hard for me to get the rog phone 7 here in the UK (been out of stock on the asus site for ages) and i don't want to get one from aliexpress as i've heard people had issues with those ones. touch response being really slow or mobo issues etc. so i've just pre-ordered an rog phone 8 although i wish it still had the dual front facing speakers and the subwoofer, though I think its time to replace my rog phone 3 otherwise i'd like to wait for the rog phone 9 instead. I agree with others, theres too many downgrades here.
I have the redmagic 8 pro. I was thinking of upgrading to the Asus due to the camera updates, but damn, it's a pass for now, the redmagic camera system is not that bad anyway. I'll wait for the ROG phone 9 if they will go back to making legit gaming phones, if not I'd, probably stick to the redmagic series.
redmagic is way ahead of its competition
@@sysechobrentheir speakers are unfortunately completely ass somehow. Well, not that bad maybe but worse than an iPhone which is quite bad compared to Rog Phones.
They just released the red magic 9. Go with that. I love the red magic lineup
@@ianschilhab6222 Not worth the upgrade from the 8 pro for now, mine isn't even a year old yet lol. Maybe on the 10 pro mate.
I think Asus is better
Wait a minute your TH-cam is gsmarena but the website is also yours. ?
For me, I like the new changes in every aspect. A gaming phone with good camera is what i prefer rather than having 2 phones with different purpose. The one thing I still can't get it though is Asus decision to still insist on having 2 android upgrade. The standard of all phones should be 3 years and 4 years security update
You really prefer having downgraded asymmetrical non front facing speakers?
@@immanuelkant7552 Yes i do. Why? Because I'm a casual gamer who likes to use my trustworthy old but gold headphone that still uses 3.5 jack. The gaming feature and the air button is already great for a gaming phone for me. You see, i never used Rog phones before because I could never see it as my daily driver. But now, I'm considering to get one
Yes, I dont mind it as well, 95% of my time when I use my phone I will use Bluetooth headphones as well
They should've upped the battery, sustained performance, speakers, screen...
It's just a bad generic phone that excels in nothing.
Says the guy who hasn't tried it.
This review is from Bulgaria ❤❤❤
Beautiful Phone. Long live to Skydragon team from XDA. ❤
ROG 8 Pro = “Daily driver friendly” gamer phone
Red Magic 9 Pro = Straight gamer phone
I kept bouncing back and forth, but I think the ROG makes sense for me. More of a daily gamer, and I’m already paying for $1300-1500 iPhones anyways. So price isn’t an issue.
I guess it’s a different view from someone coming back into this from Apple all these years.
Red magic 9 pro+ I think has 165watt charging.
if the price is no problem, personally i would rather take the S24 Ultra than the ROG Phone 8 Pro. The price difference between the Redmagic 9 Pro compared to the ROG Phone 8 Pro is imo not justified.
@@RBFR01 the battery will be ruined before the warranty runs out
You got it very right bro
Great review! Thanks!
Ta mejor que el Iphone guey?
Any1 knows anything if Asus will release an rog 8 ultimate Version or is the pro the highest version this time?
Great review what's the price? Would love seeing a pixel pro 8 vs Asus Rog Pro
Gaming phones aren't special anymore. Just get normal flagships with much better cameras at the same price
since the hot, slow and b.draining s22 i don't buying Exynos phones never ever again and so after using my s23 for nearly a year which looks very beat up now, i just bought the Asus Rog Phone 8 last week and i'm pretty happy with it. i absolutely don't game on any phone I've ever used. i just wanted a decent looking and fluid performing Snapdragon powered phone with rounded corners. the Rog 8 comes with a pretty nice package and a charger in the box. coming from more than 10 years of constantly buying and using Samsung phones and tablets it's just a little bit different using the Asus Ui. it's so much more fluent and better performing than any Samsung I've ever had in my hand's, it's so much better!! i'm very happy with the Rog 8 so far. i've paid 1090€ and i think it's relatively fair for the package you get. i'm buying Asus motherboards and graphic cards for many years and Asus always delivers at very high quality standards. if Asus would build a tablet i instantly would buy it. there are options outside the Samsung ecosystem and Exynos crippled devices and when you don't want to buy an Apple iPhone or support the CCP with buying an Xiaomi or Oppo, i think Asus i by far the best option for you.
It would be nice if ROG will have an application that lets the user stream online easily to be more convinient using selfie camera.
Hmm, buy or skip, and waiting for ROG9
can you guys make a gaming tablet? like asus rog phone but bigger version with 4 air triggers for portrait and landscape gaming. please be the first to make android gaming tablet..
GSM Arena loves yours review it's real and to point ❤
Might have to trade in my iPhone 15 pro max for this
Correction on the accessories. They actually have announced a new controller that is supposed to be the successor to the Kunai. It is called the ROG Tessen
Does the rog phone 8pro have a charging bypass feature?
Why don't they make the phone like a Nintendo switch so that you can slide controllers in. And if it was modular and you can add a speaker or power bank or a hybrid speaker power bank.
3:00 what is this attachment that hooks up to your controller?
*_It would have been a perfect phone if it only had a Micro SD card slot._*
So What to choose rog phone 8 pro edition or red magic 9 pro?
same can't choose also, both are great but red magic 9pro temp is very noticeable, rog cooling accessories is much better, i might choose the rog 8pro
Yes I will choose the rog to👌🏻 he has ip68 waterproof 👌🏻
Can u make a review about which ROG Phones is your best ❤
Is it hot? I have ultimate 5, and in two years I've changed the board twice 😵
does Red magic 9 pro have a better sound ? thanks!
I have it but seems to be missing all of the AI and editing software shown at the snapdragon conference 3 months ago 😕
great review
Okay, the ROG 9 will be 🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥
The only reason why I want to get this over S24 Ultra are air triggers. Do you think they are worth it for aiming in first person shooters (emulators)?
Get ROG 7 or 6 instead, the 8 is embarrassing
Get the 7 if you want the full experience of the rog phones the 8 is just a zenfone with rog aestethic
Does this phone support bypass charging?
Camera bump looks like it might stop a lot of the peripherals from working kishi gamesir etc
I'm not even a mobile gamer. I just want it to different.
@@unicorn10yearsago98 if this review is true thanks for sharing
It will still work with most strecthing controllers, it's just offset. Plus the headphone jack will not be completely obstructed
Hey. How many Android updates will this receive? Usually it's 1 or zero. Lemme know.
he stated it would support 2 android updates and 4 years of security updates
bro they released a new controller for the phone called the ROG Tessen controller
Im using oppo x5 pro, buying gaming phone, even with better cpu, feels like a downgrade for me
Intro music was 🔥
Hello GSMArena. ..plz my redmi phone....I'm money 💰.. install main phone. So.. 200 thojen gev up .
i want to upgrade to a newer model of ROG phone but with those downgrades, i think im still good with my ROG 5. i like the new aero cooler though
It really doesn't have dowgrades tho. 8 Pro is sick.
With that kind of thermal throttling there’s absolutely no reason to call this a “gaming phone”.
what kind of thermal is that bro
Bring back the ultrasonic gaming buttons in ROG 9 and we're good!
good but also bigger and wider screen take the old design back add an stock for microsd good camera as zenfone build in fan a very very good heat control more affordable a weight a little bit light and grippable also the 5 yrs android updates make phone last longer whlie i want this new phone more upgradable compact finally a good battery life and less heavy cooler and can function with hdmi streaming .
add more on this the phone is a little bit thicker but not too thick otherwise the phone is look like a brick.
i want redmagic 9 pro review
Where do I order this ?
why is there a notch? next they will get rid of the headphone jack. gaming features like this are why people like it. big bezels are good for gripping the phone i hate notches
exactly i hate notches but love the older asus gaming phones
Red magic 9 pro is far beyond any Asus phones.. I would rather buy an iPhone 15 pro max. I would go for red magic.
Anyone know how to buy these phones? I can't find them at stores in Canada nor the US
How did this phone get a 4.6 rating.
It's actually a downgrade.
@@shaunigothictv1003Except it's not. I have it and it absolutely owns the previous ROG 7.
@@Baleygrr Well maybe the 8 pro is faster at certain tasks.
But the 7 pro has dual stereo speakers which the 8 pro does not. (Earpiece doubles as a speaker)
So in a side by side speaker test the 8 pro would get brutally RAPED by the 7 pro, right?
@@shaunigothictv1003 I have both ROG 7 and 8 Pro. They sound about the same actually and the 8 Pro is way lighter and more comfortable in my hand. 8 wins by a long shot.
@@Baleygrr Ok so you tested both side by side.
Thats fine.
I guess I wanted the 8 pro to be RAPED in a battle with the 7 pro.
I guess the legs of the 8 pro would not have been open WIDE enough and for LONG enough for any RAPE to occur.
Does it have extended ram?
Does anyone know if this has a better speaker and camera than the Iphone 14 Pro Max? thanks!
Nope. The iPhone 14 Pro still beats it.
How to piss off your core audience
To those planning on buying this, SAVE YOUR MONEY!
ROG Phones only last a year. after that, issues will appear.
WIFI not turning on is one of the problem.
I saw in real life and the display was the nicest ive ever seen but now I see it only 1080p, but why is it so good in real life. like shocking, like a 2k display
Everyone must have got their ROG 8s! Time for the flood of videos!
I think the photos are good....I ure a professional photographer using this phone, am sure u know what to do ❤❤
asus really have to reconsider their software policy. Who in the world would by a 'gaming'phone that'll be obsolete within 2~3 years? Nowadays, even cheap samsung phone promises up to 5 years of software support. It's fabulous that they added ip68 while still maintaing it's gaming phone identiy and upgrade overall camera speces. But I think for a phone that costs over $1000, they should be more serious about their enthusiasts.
Front Camera- ASUS. Design,Display,Size,Cooling,RGB,Trigger,Speaker- Nubia Red Magic 9 Pro
Red Magic speakers are definitely worse though
If smartphones is good with games coz the processors of multimedia and games are the same, its a good phone.👍
6:08 The Asus Rog 7/7 Ultimate CPU performance over time seem to be doing better in managing thermal throttling when comparing to the Asus Rog 8 pro when on Dynamic Mode.
Is this phone available in the philippines?
Asus should just release 8D(9300) putting front facing speaker back no punch hole then normal non LTPO display, ip65 and price $700 base model
If they release a 8D (unlikely) it will probably be the same phone with a different chip, so no design changes
I know just wishing that will never come true
Can you change the search to bing?
