Most of the antagonists to dark brotherhood are good people. The dark brotherhood are far from being the good guys. Honestly i felt bad for Mero, the main antagonists of the dark brotherhood quest line. He was just doing his job and protecting the emperor who was also not a bad guy. The dark brother destroyed both of their lives literally and figuratively. I perfer the morgan tong atleast they follow laws and don't seem like they are pure evil. That is not saying i didn't enjoy every dark brotherhood quest line. They just seem to over the top evil. There is no grey what so ever. Even the antagonists of the dark brotherhood in oblivion Mathew Bellmont is complete loon and he was just trying to avenge his mother. Sithis isn't actually that evil. Techically he is responsible for unintentionally creating all life indirectly. The night mother on the other hand is one sadistic bitch.
Sithis is neither evil or good, he/she/it is the beginning and the end of everything. Sithis is the empty and couldnt really care less about what anybody does, it just so happens that a cult of asassins made him their worship model because ... well, i guess its just a cool rolemodel to have for an asassin 💁😃

The characters are just so uncomplex and lacking any depth in the dark brotherhood of skyrim. Why is astrid even in the dark brotherhood and not just a hired killer because she doesn't care about sithis or the night mother. Complex characters make a good story. What is her reason for being in the brotherhood for the the money? Even in skyrim there shades of grey everywhere. There are even good vampires.
Yeah. I mean in this game, you can't help but to play rough and dirty and there's a lot of grey areas. But as for Astrid, maybe she's one of the playing factor why the DB in Skyrim is in shambles. I mean hell, even the other members care about the Night Mother and Sithis but damn Astrid doesn't even care if you're the Listener. She was like 'Nope, fuck you, i'm the leader here now go kill someone lol". At least in TESIV DB has its own morality and following the tennets. Overall, DB Questline in Skyrim is a mixture of under and overwhelming experience whereas the quest is point A to point B (you know, kill this then come back to me to get some gold) and the killing of the emperor which can be a potential of the downfall of the Empire.
king miller smith honestly, my favorite brotherhood quest is from oblivion when have to kill some guy in bruma and you can make it look like an accident. Skyrims dark brotherhood questline had none of that. Not to mention astrid is just an idiot. She actually thought that mero wouldn't wipe out the brotherhood if she gave him the dragon born. She orchestrated his son's death. She ruined his life so ofcourse he is going to want to destroy everything she holds dear too, meaning her so called "family". If we follow your argument to the end, the Penitus Occulatus members who storm the Sanctuary are neither villains nor heroes. They're just another group of people with a job.
Honestly... I guess what can be taken from this is that who's a hero and who's a villain is always subjective to a degree, particularly in a world like Elder Scrolls where pretty much everyone who matters is a jerkass on at least _some_ level. I still instinctively find it easier to see the Penitus Occulatus as heroes than the Brotherhood though. I love the Brotherhood questline to death, but when I do it, I play as an evil character, because I can't make sense of it any other way.

That Thalmor agent is related to a quest that only becomes available if you're reputable enough to gain Jarl Elisif's trust in Solitude. She'll ask you to make an offering to the shrine for her late husband, King Torygg.
I did that quest but it wasn't to that cave and yet I had to deal with Lorcalin or whatever his name is. I just assumed it was a scripted event that happens regardless after you deliver the horn to the shrine.
You know, for kidnapping Vilkas from our own home, I have to say that those bandits were rather underwhelming. Leaving me with questions of how they managed that in the first place.

There is another villain. Don't know if he's lesser known or not, but it is kind of sad all the same. When you take the road from Riverwood to Falkreath, at some point there will be a small bandit camp on a small hill or whatever it's called, most likely so they can rob unsuspecting travelers. However, near that tiny camp, there's a Talos shrine with a single dead Thalmor Agent and three (I think) dead Talos worshippers. When searching the dead Thalmor's body, there will be a letter/note from Elenwen. She says that despite all the investigation that has been done, there is no evidence of a Talos shrine around Lake Ilinalta and thus she rejects the Agent's request of sending some soldiers down to help destroy the Talos shrine and worshippers, telling him to go investigate himself and come back with proof or not at all. Now, I get it that the Thalmor are a bunch of pointy eared jerks and all, but it's kind of sad that he went there himself, massacred everyone there and then died himself, just because Elenwen denied his request for help. I feel bad for the worshippers too. Personally, I think the entire location and "story" is sad. :/
Geno Breaker You can actually start a quest that lets you help the Empire destroy the Dark Brotherhood. You just have to kill Astrid in the cabin when you first meet her.
Jorge Cruz I know, but it's a couple short quests and you don't get some of the best items in the game that way. Cicero's clothes have unique slot enchantments and Wind Shear is arguably the most powerful sword in the game with 100% stagger. If you kill the Brotherhood, you get the Blade of Woe, but if you side with them it's possible to get two of the unique weapon. :/
On number 4, though the Thalmor Soldiers aren't tied to any specific quest, if you happen to take the quest by Elisif the Fair to deliver Torygg's war horn at a shrine of Talos there is a slight chance that the timing of the elves' patrol overlaps that of the quest and you can encounter them whilst delivering the horn. I don't know if that was deliberately done by Bethesda given that I've played through Skyrim like 10 times and have only encountered them once, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless.
I was so bloody confused when I returned home, and couldn’t find Vilkas _anywhere_ The bandit that came with the ransom wasn’t non-hostile, I just luckily checked her body afterwards I’m just surprised that Vilkas had not killed them, because at this point I had NO idea that you could turn him back to a mortal, so he was very much a werewolf. This man was the same one who helped me attack dragons that dropped down on me upon coming home of overcumbered...

I've gotten the Rochelle the Red encounter before back when I played with a paladin build, and I took a completely different course of action than the two you mentioned, and I'd like to contribute it as a potential third option of approaching the quest. Instead of going to whatever radiant location I was given and paying the ransom or killing the bandits there, I instead read the note then chose to kill the messenger bandit who gave me said note. When I went to the location I was given, and the place was completely empty, no bandits or anything else there. Confused, I decided to go back to my home, only to find my spouse inside the home like nothing happened. I'm not sure if that's a truly viable option of completion, or I accidentally stumbled across a glitch in the game, but I figured that since I got my spouse back and nothing seemed different when I interact with them, that's the most important thing
Fun fact, if you don't return home before the bandit-kidnapping event triggers in the game , and then purchase the services of a housecarl and THEN return home to find the bandit woman is there to speak with you, the quest bugs and your spouse won't appear at the end of the dungeon if you go to save them or pay off the bandits. Had to choose between losing 20 hours of gametime or starting from scratch. Suffice to say, the next 20 hours were kind of hard. :/
When I played through the Dark Brotherhood questline, Arcturus somehow survived the assault on the sanctuary and ended up on the Emperor's ship. If I remember rightly, he has the key to the Emperor's room.
Just saying this: Hated working with Maven Black Briar. Hated her being Jarl of Riften in the Empire ending of the civil war. Wish there was some way you could have exposed her and cleaned up the streets from thievery in the same vein as killing the dark brotherhood before joining
I met Rochelle the Red once. I built my fantastic Lakeside Mansion, had my werewolf hubby Farkas living in it with my two kids.... And spent the entire time screaming at Farkas while killing the bandits to rescue him. "YOU ARE A COMPANION AND A WEREWOLF! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!"
I remember coming across an unmarked Talos shrine where there had been a massacre of people, judging from the clothes they were just ordinary citizens. Now I know who did it. Thanks.

7:30... That happened to me on my first play-through immediately after returning home from that one quest that you go drinking and end up talking to Sanguine. I was very confused, the two kind-of amplified the other - and I thought that it had somehow related to the Hagraven I was about to marry. My first, completely oblivious playthrough was very fun.
With agent Loraclin, there's an alternate way to meet him. If you get the quest to bring the horn of High King Torryg to that shrine, Loraclin will ambush you as you place the horn instead of simply standing guard over the site.
In defense of that cooking guy, who spills laundry water in a soup pot, and I'm pretty sure he's serving the food to the jarl so they could have his head if they get poisoned

They've got a country full of them down south" I don't know if this is word for word since it happened so fast, but idk if its just me or did people call them provinces on TH-cam and not countries? ventriloquism toy - The various regions of Tamriel are indeed Provinces, as they were all at one point part of the Empire - but they also act as their own nations for the most part due to the near complete collapse of said Empire

I remember the first time I played, I was trying to hide from a dragon in a house, and a Madge in there kept killing me, I decided to try and run from that mountain after I died a few times.
I was married to Vilkas and I turned the quest to ask the Companion leaders for work on and noticed one of the marks was at a random bandit cave so I went there and sure enough they captured Vilkas.... I was like "Your a freaking warrior AND werewolf how the heck did they manage to kidnap you?!"
I love the fact that the farther you get in the game the dumber the bandits and the other riff raff get because nobody in their right mind would mess with the Dragonborn who ends up killing alduin, becomes the leader of every guild in Skyrim, wins the civil war for the stormcloaks or the imperials, becomes thane of every hold, racks up a body count so large that it would make the most cold hearted killer think twice before trying to kill someone even remotely related to the Dragonborn, and the fact the Dragonborn is most likely equipped with maxed out enchanted daedric weapons and armor
Ironically, I just discovered the Liracalin thing the other day. Odd how I never encountered him there before, though. Maybe it's different in the PC version, since he and his flunky just walked up to attack instead of being lying in ambush at the shrine itself.
Josh Dracoian idk which mod is causing it but every character I make Astrid just says “need something” to me, so I started murdering them all, my god, so satisfying! Never really felt like there was much of an ending in the base game for it but hand murdering Nazir and all them make me happy inside
At 5:06 - I believe you are sent to this location by queen Elisif to leave an offering to Talos on behalf of her late husband. I missed this quest on first playthrough - possibly because I was imperial aligned, but 2nd playthrough I was stormcloak and also playing the special edition, so this may have been added in.
The Dragonborn comes home, only to see the door ajar, and blood at the entrance. Fearing the worst, she rushes in, only to find several dead bandits, her wife, Serana standing over the bodies. Serana: Oh, hello love. Dragonborn: What in Oblivion happened here? Serana: They showed up a little bit ago, just busted through the door. Said they were going to take me back to their hideout and hold me for ransom. But I wasn't interested, so *gestures to the bodies* Dragonborn: I know you can handle yourself dear, but I should have been here. I'd have made these bastards suffer. Serana: *mischievous smirk* Well, they did mention the name of their hideout, and that it was pretty fortified. Up for a little adventure? Dragonborn: *grin* Definitely.
The one time the Rochelle the Red quest happened during a playthrough I was more pissed at my character's wife than the kidnappers because that time she was Aela. How in Oblivion does a badass warrior/werewolf let some stupid bandits abduct her? She and my character had taken down ancient dragon priests, tore giants apart and put down the stormcloak rebellion together and a handful of yokels in leather armor were too much? I envisioned my character standing in front of her cell with his hands on his hips after easily slaughtering her captors, saying, _"OK, what the hell, dear"
Ive played skyrim for 1000 or so hours in total since its release on 11/11/11, on pc, ps3 and on pc again. With over 20 characters created. And during that time spent, i have not once happened upon those thalmor agents and that shrine. Simply amazing.

Hey Nate, I don't know if you actually read these, but the one with Loraclin is loosely based with a quest. I don't recall the name, but is the one where High Queen Elisif asks the Dragonborn to make an offering at a Shrine of Talos.
He talks like the Dark Brotherhood members in Skyrim are likeable. They're all bland, and the questline isn't even deep enough to develop any relationship with these characters, they're just kind of there to fill-in space.
Chris Gowen yeah because those characters had so much depth, man. And the story was long and challenging. In Skyrim, they made killing the Emperor boring and unsatisfing. How did they manage that? Every guild questline was poorly done. I didn't feel like I accomplished anything when doing them. You walk in, run errands, and be crowned leader.

I mean yeah, I will agree that there were very few or no characters who were interesting in Oblivion's Guild quests (The Dunmer guy from the Fighters Guild is my favorite though, and is truly a Picasso), but the Dark Brotherhood definitely had characters that you grew to like if you spent time talking to them and ask them about the contract you're going on. That Thalmor agent is related to a quest that only becomes available if you're reputable enough to gain Jarl Elisif's trust in Solitude. She'll ask you to make an offering to the shrine for her late husband, King Torygg.
When I go to the shrine I encounter only one or two dragons but when I reach the shrine no thalmor or any of those yellows there

I've done that quest for Eilisif many times but during the quest I've never encountered those Thalmor agents. I don't think the 2 are related.
When Elisif asks you to take her husband's war horn to a shrine of Talos it's the one you talk about in this video, right? "Elisif's Tribute"

I did that quest but it wasn't to that cave and yet I had to deal with Lorcalin or whatever his name is. I just assumed it was a scripted event that happens regardless after you deliver the horn to the shrine.
You know, for kidnapping Vilkas from our own home, I have to say that those bandits were rather underwhelming. Leaving me with questions of how they managed that in the first place.

There is another villain. Don't know if he's lesser known or not, but it is kind of sad all the same.
When you take the road from Riverwood to Falkreath, at some point there will be a small bandit camp on a small hill or whatever it's called, most likely so they can rob unsuspecting travelers. However, near that tiny camp, there's a Talos shrine with a single dead Thalmor Agent and three (I think) dead Talos worshippers. When searching the dead Thalmor's body, there will be a letter/note from Elenwen. She says that despite all the investigation that has been done, there is no evidence of a Talos shrine around Lake Ilinalta and thus she rejects the Agent's request of sending some soldiers down to help destroy the Talos shrine and worshippers, telling him to go investigate himself and come back with proof or not at all. Now, I get it that the Thalmor are a bunch of pointy eared jerks and all, but it's kind of sad that he went there himself, massacred everyone there and then died himself, just because Elenwen denied his request for help. I feel bad for the worshippers too. Personally, I think the entire location and "story" is sad. :/

Geno Breaker You can actually start a quest that lets you help the Empire destroy the Dark Brotherhood. You just have to kill Astrid in the cabin when you first meet her.
Jorge Cruz I know, but it's a couple short quests and you don't get some of the best items in the game that way. Cicero's clothes have unique slot enchantments and Wind Shear is arguably the most powerful sword in the game with 100% stagger. If you kill the Brotherhood, you get the Blade of Woe, but if you side with them it's possible to get two of the unique weapon. :/
On number 4, though the Thalmor Soldiers aren't tied to any specific quest, if you happen to take the quest by Elisif the Fair to deliver Torygg's war horn at a shrine of Talos there is a slight chance that the timing of the elves' patrol overlaps that of the quest and you can encounter them whilst delivering the horn. I don't know if that was deliberately done by Bethesda given that I've played through Skyrim like 10 times and have only encountered them once, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless.
The final boss of Skyrim should’ve been a giant chicken that breathes fire.

I've gotten the Rochelle the Red encounter before back when I played with a paladin build, and I took a completely different course of action than the two you mentioned, and I'd like to contribute it as a potential third option of approaching the quest. Instead of going to whatever radiant location I was given and paying the ransom or killing the bandits there, I instead read the note then chose to kill the messenger bandit who gave me said note. When I went to the location I was given, and the place was completely empty, no bandits or anything else there. Confused, I decided to go back to my home, only to find my spouse inside the home like nothing happened. I'm not sure if that's a truly viable option of completion, or I accidentally stumbled across a glitch in the game, but I figured that since I got my spouse back and nothing seemed different when I interact with them, that's the most important thing

Fun fact, if you don't return home before the bandit-kidnapping event triggers in the game , and then purchase the services of a housecarl and THEN return home to find the bandit woman is there to speak with you, the quest bugs and your spouse won't appear at the end of the dungeon if you go to save them or pay off the bandits.
Had to choose between losing 20 hours of gametime or starting from scratch. Suffice to say, the next 20 hours were kind of hard. :/
When I played through the Dark Brotherhood questline, Arcturus somehow survived the assault on the sanctuary and ended up on the Emperor's ship. If I remember rightly, he has the key to the Emperor's room.

Just saying this: Hated working with Maven Black Briar. Hated her being Jarl of Riften in the Empire ending of the civil war. Wish there was some way you could have exposed her and cleaned up the streets from thievery in the same vein as killing the dark brotherhood before joining

With agent Loraclin, there's an alternate way to meet him. If you get the quest to bring the horn of High King Torryg to that shrine, Loraclin will ambush you as you place the horn instead of simply standing guard over the site.

I remember the first time I played, I was trying to hide from a dragon in a house, and a Madge in there kept killing me, I decided to try and run from that mountain after I died a few times.
I absolutely LOVE this game, but I would like to ask suggestions from all you guys on how to make the game more fun and spontaneous.
I was married to Vilkas and I turned the quest to ask the Companion leaders for work on and noticed one of the marks was at a random bandit cave so I went there and sure enough they captured Vilkas.... I was like "Your a freaking warrior AND werewolf how the heck did they manage to kidnap you?!"

I love the fact that the farther you get in the game the dumber the bandits and the other riff raff get because nobody in their right mind would mess with the Dragonborn who ends up killing alduin, becomes the leader of every guild in Skyrim, wins the civil war for the stormcloaks or the imperials, becomes thane of every hold, racks up a body count so large that it would make the most cold hearted killer think twice before trying to kill someone even remotely related to the Dragonborn, and the fact the Dragonborn is most likely equipped with maxed out enchanted daedric weapons and armor

At 5:06 - I believe you are sent to this location by queen Elisif to leave an offering to Talos on behalf of her late husband. I missed this quest on first playthrough - possibly because I was imperial aligned, but 2nd playthrough I was stormcloak and also playing the special edition, so this may have been added in.

The one time the Rochelle the Red quest happened during a playthrough I was more pissed at my character's wife than the kidnappers because that time she was Aela. How in Oblivion does a badass warrior/werewolf let some stupid bandits abduct her? She and my character had taken down ancient dragon priests, tore giants apart and put down the stormcloak rebellion together and a handful of yokels in leather armor were too much? I envisioned my character standing in front of her cell with his hands on his hips after easily slaughtering her captors, saying, _"OK, what the hell, dear"
Ive played skyrim for 1000 or so hours in total since its release on 11/11/11, on pc, ps3 and on pc again. With over 20 characters created. And during that time spent, i have not once happened upon those thalmor agents and that shrine. Simply amazing.

Hey Nate, I don't know if you actually read these, but the one with Loraclin is loosely based with a quest. I don't recall the name, but is the one where High Queen Elisif asks the Dragonborn to make an offering at a Shrine of Talos.
He talks like the Dark Brotherhood members in Skyrim are likeable. They're all bland, and the questline isn't even deep enough to develop any relationship with these characters, they're just kind of there to fill-in space.

Chris Gowen yeah because those characters had so much depth, man. And the story was long and challenging. In Skyrim, they made killing the Emperor boring and unsatisfing. How did they manage that? Every guild questline was poorly done. I didn't feel like I accomplished anything when doing them. You walk in, run errands, and be crowned leader.

I mean yeah, I will agree that there were very few or no characters who were interesting in Oblivion's Guild quests (The Dunmer guy from the Fighters Guild is my favorite though, and is truly a Picasso), but the Dark Brotherhood definitely had characters that you grew to like if you spent time talking to them and ask them about the contract you're going on.
