  • This video covers the design of a field orientated control regime for a PMSM. The video covers how to determine the PI controller for Id, Iq and speed. A methodology using PSIM and SmartCtrl is presented with a stable solution as the result.

    And another question...
Which are the motor parameters are you using? Because I only see Ld, Lq,... but no values, do I mean?

Ive been using PSIM9.0 and I cant find the VSPWM block in the Motor Drives, should I upgrade to PSIM10.0?

***** Yes the blocks were not part of the version 9 release. You will need to upgrade to version 10 to access them.

    Hi, one question.
If SVPWM is based on voltage vector, why do you use currents as inputs instead of using the motor model to get the voltages and use it as inputs? Thanks!

Hi Alejandro, you are controlling the torque of the motor with the amplitude of the current, therefore we need to use currents as inputs to control the torque properly. If we were doing sensorless control we would need the voltages for the observer model to get the rotor position.

      Thanks for your answer!
So, If a encoder is used to measure the speed, we only have to work with the currents, haven't we? So, if we do not use the motor model, the parameters like Lq or Ld are no important

Yes if an encoder is used we only need to feedback the currents from the motor. Ld and Lq are important as they impact the PI control values. They are also important if you want to use field weakening

      PSIM but other question...
SVPWM is based on trying to "build" the input space vector with the space vectors which are generated by the conmutations of the IGBTs, but these space vectors of the conmutations, are voltage space vectors, aren't they? so, can we use a current space vector as input?

+Alejandro Tejada yes you can use currents amplitudes as the input to space vector to control the gating of your switches.
