- The suspect in an apparent 'assassination attempt' on former President Donald Trump has been named as Ryan Wesley Routh, who is said to have championed sending arms and American soldiers to Ukraine.
Nick Ferrari hears insight from former FBI Agent Bobby Chacon (00:00) and Presidential historian Dr Laura Smith (04:04) after the 58-year-old was arrested by police in connection with the shooting.
The FBI has since said that Trump was the subject of an "apparent assassination attempt" after gunshots rung out at his Florida golf club at around 1pm local time (7.45pm BST) on Sunday evening.
Routh, a self-employed affordable housing builder in Hawaii and registered Democrat, was arrested shortly after close to Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
A 'den' discovered, containing bags, a GoPro camera and a AK-47-style rifle, in what appears to be the second attempt on the former president's life in as many months.
In a chilling development following his arrest, Martin County Sherriff William D. Snyder said Routh "was not displaying a lot of emotions" when police arrested him.
According to Snyder, the suspect remained "relatively calm" and "never asked" why he was being detained.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social in the hours following the incident, Trump thanked the public for their "concern and well wishes" following the apparent attempt on his life.
In the post, Mr Trump said the "most important" thanks go to the US Secret Service, Palm Beach County sheriff Ric Bradshaw and local law enforcement, adding: "The job done was absolutely outstanding."
It's believed Routh posted several political comments to a Twitter account linked to him prior to the shooting, referencing the July's assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The Twitter profile believed to belong to Routh says in its bio: “I feel lucky to have been born in America, with freedom and opportunity and hope that I do not waste such a valuable thing; to do more and take less.”
He is also said to have tagged Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in separate posts, encouraging the political figures to visit those injured during Trump's rally.

If you actually look up the video of that press conference, you'll see that about a minute later, he says "I'm not talking about the neo n*zis, they should be condemned totally." It was a media hoax that he was praising them. And you've been walking around for years believing that it happened because you think the media is there to give you information.
The big one they've been pushing recently is that Trump "vows to be a dictator." If you look up the source of that, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment he made in response to a friendly interviewer asking jokingly if he was "going to be a dictator" like everyone says. And he replies "No. Well, except on day 1," referring to executive orders he will sign.
Before that it was the "bloodbath" hoax. They showed you a clip of Trump saying "if I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath in this country." If you watch the video about 1 minute before that, it's clear he's talking about the car industry. Once again, if you had the full context, you'd know you were being lied to.

I don't begrudge the former president his favorite recreational activity, however, he plays a lot of golf. As an American tax payer I would like there to be some balance between his outings and the resources needed to keep him safe.
Too right. Securing an entire public golf course located in a built-up urban area must be extremely difficult and colossally expensive. A more appropriate balance for Trump and the taxpayers would be no golf in the adjacent prison.
He golfed the most of any other president in history. In my opinion he could care less about spending tax dollars for anything.

Drone seems like a big waste of time in this situation. Let's ignore battery life and pretend they are carrying around a half dozen drones so that isn't an issue, this is a golf course, so imagine how long it would take a drone to fly along the edges of a golf course with the operator looking at little screen in daylight.
They should have surveillance cameras that could identify people walking near the fence line and sensors that detect movement near fences. Maybe some sort of binoculars that can detect a heat signature from a person as well.
I want to know where this guy's vehicle was that it was parked and he could run back to it from that fence but the fact a vehicle being parked and left alone there wasn't raising any questions.
Maybe the Democrats should stop telling America that Trump is a threat to democracy..
