I love your channel for the quick impressions and the variety, I make fixed blades as a hobby and I’d love to send you a knife to get your honest impression. I’ve got one in Magnacut that I screwed up a bit on that I could send you if your interested in taking a look at it and you can keep, send back, or give away at your discretion. If you feel like making a video of it, great, but I’m honestly not in any position where I’m looking for advertising I work full time plus and make knives for fun. My friends all rave about the knives I make, which is great but I would love an honest opinion from a content creator that I follow and respect. Pm me if you’re interested at all. This knife is very similar in size and shape to the the knife that I would have to send which is what inspired me to say anything. Thanks for the content you create!
I love drop point blades. Most of my folders are drop points. This blade has the shape I like, but a bit longer than I need. It's also out of stock at DLT. I don't really buy from anyone else because as you said DLT are awesome, so I have no idea if it is available anywhere else.
That can start after New Year’s. Quick there’s time to do some shopping. If the purchase is made before January 1 it qualifies as before that ridiculous resolution started👍🏻
I have used the blue AUS10 version of it for about 6 months now as my primary outdoors knife and I absolutely love it! It has held up wonderfully and performed admirably within its constraints! love your videos, keep up the great work!
I was on team DLT this holiday and I went for the Fenris. Jorg Sprague's workshop burned down after Christmas. The blade on mine is extra even finish & shiny. The fuller is contrast matte. It's centered it is annodized orange like an Olight flashlight, not a baked on orange coating it's a great blade shape, thickness and presence. I'm not going to pop it open or closed. I'm not going to whale around and try it as a chopper whomping knife. Its not to show off to my buddies. It's not strictly for kicks. It represents someone's knife dream that I admire. Its to remind me of Jorg and its not hanging on the wall or left in Basecamp when glamping. It's thick n heavy, but really, I'd use it to make big cuts and maybe I'll find ways to take it seriously. I'm glad we both found something wonderful at DLT. 10:13
I love that blade shape. The grip looks comfy. This would be a good vest/war belt knife or carry knife. $200 isn't far off the Esee SVN 4. I use an old Esee 4 and ZT300 for the truck and field work.
^ just because it's the same shape doesn't mean it's the same knife ^ Materials, fit/finish, country of origin etc. If you don't need the above, then yes. Buy the cold steel or whatever. There are hundreds. If the above matters, you might want the Demko. We can't pretend away these elements
It gets over 170° inside cars here in Phoenix in the summer. I had a fixed under the back seat. It had a metal handle, I still have that imprinted on my hand 😂😂. I’ll let you know how this rubber handle does. I’ll use my AUS10 model not my Magnacut. I love this knife. I dremeled the sheath a little and it helped with the retention.
First of all love the channel and what you do but I also cant help but mention the fact that with ALL these knives you have at your disposal, I love the fact that you consistently use the railroad spike knife without fail. Every single time. cracks me up. keep up the good work.
Hahaha!! The robot turd with holes in it comment killed me. What a picture you put in my head. Great videos. I really like when you also look at fixed blades.
I received mine a few days ago and loved the knife. Mine came very sharp with perfect grinds. My only issue is the screws that come with sheath are very short and one of them barely catches. I was able to tighten some but will look to replace them at some point. Lately I’ve been mostly buying Survive Knives and love every one I have. Glad I picked this one up. I’m really not going to buy any knives, flashlights or other toys next year. 😮😢 maybe. We’ll see.
Is it possible to modify it to accept Allen-key (hex head) sets for screws, bolts, etc. in the grip? Because if you can do that then it can be made to snap together as the handle for a massive array of multi tools.
I'm a big fixed blade fan. My collection is just about the opposite of yours except that I only get budget blades. Well, there are 3 or 4 that go over $100. The Freereign looks like an ideal combo of a medium-large sized heavy bushcraft and smallish survival knife. Especially in Magnacut! It fixes the problems with the StrongArm/Prodigy models - better edge holding steel and better sliciness with the high saber grind. Still very durable, especially the tip and perhaps a better handle/scales build. Some would say it looks a little boring, but that just means it works really well. Flashy rarely performs properly. The only downside I can see is that the scales looks pretty flat on the sides. I usually like a little palm swell on a working knife. If I were to pony up the cash for this knife, I would convex the last quarter inch before the edge to give it good wood carving performance.
Great Video. Looks like it has great potential as a bushcraft knife. If you want a little clean up on the blade , try Flitz polish from Buck Knives. It is a great polish and really brings a beautiful sheen to the blade and adds corrosion protection. The polish is from West Germany but Buck imports it.
I noticed on Demko website, that model doesn’t have the nice swedge on top like yours does. Is that how they come now or am I missing something? Love the swedge
For me Its all about the sheath when it comes to fixed blades. I carry one everyday on my belt or in pocket plus a folder or two. So far the best I've found is winkler, primitive woodsman, offensive industries, tepfer armory and mike snody customs
I've been using a Les George Magnate with rubberized grip and Magnacut blade for over a year, and it's also American made. You should check it out too!
On the lookout for a pocket fixed blade & one that is just the right size and shape with horizontal belt option and really good retention like this one. At a good /better price. On both. Thx
MC if you want the perfect knife for opening your box's get the Bark River Micro Canadian in CPM-3V it is like a super thick scalpel, but you better hurry they are selling out like hot cakes at DLT. Thanks for your content!
I have 3 Cold Steel SRK’s in different steels and always wished they would make a next gen SRK with a broader blade and handle. The freereign is it! Got the OD green drop point in magnacut and love it!
The price for what you get is fine, for bushcraft should be a convex edge with a sharp spine for a fire steel. Scabbard is ok, but I would prefer option for horizontal carry.
Whoever started the "you need a firesteel for bushcraft" is seriously annoying, it's like people think thats the only way to start a fire now, almost ritualistic of bushcrafters
Learning bushcraft lore has become an absolutely hilarious journey. I would pay big money for a sarcastic "how to" book written about the modern bushcrafter
@metal_complex i love you even if you hate us bush crafters 😂 happy new year ... by the way i got my fg vision after your recommendation .. now ordered one in ultem 😊 is collecting multiples on my budget, also not as cheap in Europe 😢 €104. Best wishes to you n yours 😊
I want the od green drop point. Ive carried a 5.5 inch blade with my hiking pack for quite some time but it requires some maintenance and care being made out of 3V steel it basically rusts if its within 50 ft of an open water bottle for 2 seconds. I think this would be a great overall replacement, or at least a good swap on those rainy days.
What works great for me, heat the blade GENTLY with a torch, just enough to melt wax. You probably wouldnt be able to get the kind I use (body cavity wax, used in cars) really good stuff. Just melt a little on, and buff really good with a rag. I'm sure beeswax would work well, but would probably have to be re-waxed more often. I haven't searched online anywhere for the body cavity wax so not sure if it would be available, I get mine from work from totalled cars lol.
I don't know if you're familiar with ISAK fixed-blade knives, but I really like it. It's probably 10 years old and still looks like new. It's a little on the larger side (7 in. blade) but the way the grip fits my hand, it feels light in the hand. Made in Israel, it was designed for Israeli special forces. It's made from 440-C and is rock solid!
The 6.5 inch(overall) Benchmade intersect is $200 as well. It has a nice sheath and MagnaCut but it’s still hard to believe that these two knives are the same price lol. The intersect is more my style and size and I like the knife but it’s hard to spend so much on such a small knife.
Agree. Most never cover hand size fit, and dont go in depth on the carry system on fixed blades. Usually things I need to know before I can pull the trigger
Hey MC, it's funny to hear you do not care about the sheath, as it is the second great part of this fixed blade, with a pending patent on it (should be mentioned on the sheath as well). And what's so great about it? Well, first u can take it completely apart to clean out every bit of gunk, that might got in it (e.g. in a hunting scenario). And second, the inner part of the sheath covering the blade does not use any glas fibers, which can dull your blade while putting it in or taking it out of the sheath. So, maybe after this information you will have another opinion on this piece of gear.. a good sheath is always nice to have. Anyways - a great pick in my opinion and surely the right step to easily pay 200 bucks over the 140 bucks for the AUS10-A version and thanks for sharing.
Glad to see this comment, and it's cool knowing how much time and effort Demko put into its design and functionality; IMO the sheath would be as exciting to use as the knife itself lol
I have 20 or 30 fixed blade knives ranging in size and blade steel from 440C to 1095 to AUS 8, not one in a super steel. I'm thinking about getting something better. This gives me some ideas. Thanks.
You should check out Survive! Knives. I have been carrying the EDC 4 as a pocket fixed blade. This is one of the few knives with no hotspots. You can get their knives in Magacut, 3v, K890, Elmax, or M390. Also you can get it as full flat grind, or Sabre, some of the other knives have a Scandi grind option
@@lukeschwebke637 The EDC 4 is one of the models they put into a pretty consistent output. I got 2, the cpm 3V version waited 15 days, the magnacut version I waited a month. Still nothing like ole Chris Reeve and his 7 year waiting list for a UMNUMZAAN
That is an awesome fixed blade! Demkos stonewash is my favorite. The 20.5 in d2 is my beater edc, def top notch quality just wish id held out for the 3v version. Instead I have one in d2 one in aus10. Such is life lol.
Not all d2 is the same, I have folders in d2 that kinda suck, but some that are good. My custom fixed blade in d2 is freaking phenomenal. Probably something to do with the heat treatments id imagine.
Since the change of law in Germany some years ago, I can no longer legally carry a locking folder that I an lock onehanded, and since I got my onehanded locking knife taken away and destroyed by police after that change, I started getting into fixed blades, lol. I love me some smaller sized edc fixed blades, because I might not be allowed to carry a folder that's able to lock with one hand, but I am allowed to carry a fixed blade up to 4,72441 inches lmao. But no, not my tiny 2,95276 inch folder that locks. Good thing there are more and more knives now that are designed for onehanded operation but doesn't lock. And as a bonus blade length does not matter for folders here. Goddamn knife laws actually making me buy more knives so I can carry the right one for the occasion. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Thank you for providing the platform and for showing us all the things we might not have seen otherwise!
great knife! Love the knife, and I even love the sheath! not sure why, just very clean and sort of techno looking sheath, but love it all! Only downside is it's OOS. sad panda. Oh well, I'll keep an eye on it for stock or for pre orders.
ontario chimera was a perfect utility / survival / combat knife at an affordable price and then they discontinued the model, 2nd choice is the ontario usmc bayonet
Doesn't meet my personal fixed blade requirements. Cold Steel Trailmaster in 3v is more my style. Wearing one now. Love it. Tiny fixed blades seem kinda outta place. If a folder is the same size, I'd go with that. 6in min blade length for me personally. However, enjoy yers..
Looks similar to the Benchmade Bushcrafte, minus the rubber handle. Dont know if you have looked at that knife but its been through hell the last 10 years.
I care as much if not more about the sheath, I'd rather buy something like the Boker Life Knife because it comes with cydex and scout carry plate out the bag for like 40$. The demko blade looks unbelievable though and if I remember I saw it at a blade or shot show. It's an unreal deal, very good price.
It appears to be nearly identical to the Cold Steel AK-47, other than the handle shape. I have a CS in 3V, was $130. Made in Taiwan but the grind is very nice, symmetrical, no issues at all. Did Demko design the AK-47?
I wanted to give this channel a try. I couldn't get into it. The first third of this video was just...like omg this knife is so awesome like wow. That's not enough substance to engage me with the video.
UG-Tools TiNy Floe is the PERFECT fixed blade and I think Metal complex would agree if he handles one! It has a Magnacut blade with 3D printed titanium handles!
I own an extrema ration misericordia. I highly recommend but I'm more of a fixed blade guy than a folder, although I also own a spyderco small fly 2 that I have modified, that I picked up from dlt trading
Thanks for sharing. I feel like these companies that keep saying that it is "American Made" is an excuse to charge a premium. To these companies. The consumer is obviously not dumb. Your days of overcharging just cause it is "American Made" is soon coming to an end.
@@cityslacker6221that's half of my cringe. They very well could charge for the Magna-cut, but send it out 58 HRc. What's the point of buying Benchmade to try or to enjoy a specific alloy?
1 demko fixed blade do The same job as my mora companion. I don’t see any chances to run over 20 moras in my life! I am totally understanding your guilt of buying this blade. 👍
i really don't understand why so many makers put completely useless jimping on a knife. Those 3 notches are only gonna make it less comfortable, still gonna be a slippery stonewash. Lovely looking handle though.
That's about the smallest size of a fixed-tool I carry. It will do for an average day, but I'm heavily vested in tactics & training as well as big outdoors - I grew up with a mailbag forest as a playground. Kukris are my bread-&-butter, but I keep a PAL-36 in my backpack to wear in town. I would love a Bowie from them in that metal/hilt.
Baton a few logs with that bad boy make a youtube short! 😂... I heard on knifecenter the blade is all US made then shipped to Taiwan to finish the rest.

The sheath looks great. I guess everyone's got different taste buds. I just ordered the magnacut version as well
My truck.knife is a Jeff Freeman 451 in 3v. Its a 5" blade and has handled all the abuse!
My favorite in that category is still the Ontario Blackbird SK-5. I have an older one in 154cm and love it. The included sheath is actually good too.
I've got the 154cm as well. Excellent knife. Not a fan of the sheath. Looking to get about 5-6 kydex sheaths for blades acquired last year.
I like the sheath (it's ambi, molle, and not poorly made), but yeah, it's not kydex, and if you're a fan of kydex, I get it.
ontario chimera was a perfect utility / survival / combat knife at an affordable price and then they discontinued the model, 2nd choice is the ontario usmc bayonet
Great knife. Reminds me of my favorite all purpose knife. Cold steel SRK.
For me, the perfect fixed Blade knife is the Tops Silent Hero, infact I have 2 of them & I have not needed to purchase another fixed blade since.
It appears to be nearly identical to the Cold Steel AK-47, other than the handle shape. I have a CS in 3V, was $130. Made in Taiwan but the grind is very nice, symmetrical, no issues at all. Did Demko design the AK-47?
Stuff like this is more acceptable in Canada. I love the CRKT brand. The fogged in war series is very interesting. You may also like the ethos.
Nice knife !!! But I'm still sticking with my Winkler Utility Crusher . Great channel tho , keep up the good content !
I’ve said for a year that Benchmade should make a fixed Adamas in Magnacut. Glad some other companies are beating them to it.
Benchmade: “we will do that for $756.33. But…no sheath, you will need to purchase that separately.
@@nachoisme I don’t even want to imagine what they would charge. 🤨
@@cityslacker6221that's half of my cringe. They very well could charge for the Magna-cut, but send it out 58 HRc. What's the point of buying Benchmade to try or to enjoy a specific alloy?
I thought no one can make a better fixed blade when I held my first Bark River knife, but this thing is amazing. $200 is a great deal for this
Just got mine 3 days ago in Magnacut. Love it.
I have one too, and love it. Best $200 for a fixed blade, a lot of knife for the money…
I’m discovering this recommended video 4 weeks too late and they’re all sold out in every color variant at DLT.
Any idea when they may restock?
Ahh, beautiful blade. I bought the drop point version ( which is no longer available) a while back . Love it !
Thanks MC👍❕️
Pretty much a 4 max scout that doesn't bend 🤔?
Guess who designed the 4Max. I'll give you a hint: His initials are "A.D."
@metal_complex haha I know ! 🤣 I was holding my 4 max watching this one! Cool vid btw !
I love Demko knives. Thanks MC
I’d take that over the crazy prices from Bark River for shiny wood handles.
I missed on the name of this knife...what's it called ?
Free Reign
@@metal_complex thank you ✌️
Survive! Knives are super insane. I would check them out.
Reminds me of a sever tech spartan after deployment. I like it.
what the point to have this in magnacut?
1 demko fixed blade do The same job as my mora companion. I don’t see any chances to run over 20 moras in my life! I am totally understanding your guilt of buying this blade. 👍
Dude, you gotta do a 3 month follow up on this one.. I may need to drop some coin on dis! 👍
I'm waiting for Work Tuff with their AUS8.
Looks good. Like the rubber.
i really don't understand why so many makers put completely useless jimping on a knife. Those 3 notches are only gonna make it less comfortable, still gonna be a slippery stonewash.
Lovely looking handle though.
Blade shape is very similar to the cold steel AK-47. Nice knife .
Yeah because it.s a demko design as well...
I really like this, good price too 👍
That's about the smallest size of a fixed-tool I carry.
Wouldn't that steel be a little harder to maintain out in the woods? I don't have any knives with that steel. Cool knife though
Baton a few logs with that bad boy make a youtube short! 😂... I heard on knifecenter the blade is all US made then shipped to Taiwan to finish the rest.
My BK2 with kydex fresh micarta scales and SS hardware shipped cost like $80 all together. I absolutely cannot justify this for $200.
Great score! Myself, I absolutely luv my Drop Point, Demko Knives, U.S.A., Magnacut FREEREIGN; it absolutely, "ROCKS!!!" :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Do a side by side with a Lionsteel T5. Cheaper and a lot of positive reviews
Like the sheath, very nice knife
