Any answers yet? I got a 4690-nonK and have bottleneck with the 1070too :/ As in my country the 4790k is damn overpriced currently, I don't want to dump my money.
The only reason a gamer needs an i7 vs an i5 is for when you're doing more than just gaming at the same time. Streaming/GameCapture/AudioCapture... etc. It's why I'm upgrading from my i5 to this chip.
Christopher Snow i wouldn´t go that far and say twice the performance cause that´s nuts but you get a significant increase IF you are using your machine for calculations, video editing, rendering, etc... for games the performance between a 4cored CPU and another 4 cored CPU with HT is minimum.
Christopher Snow You seem to know alot about intel. Does the I7-4790k run good with the Sapphire R9-290x? I currently have the FX-8350 and it seems VERY lacking while gaming. "Arma, GTA5, etc"
***** I admit I'm more into Nvidia, but there is nothing wrong with the R9-290x that would make it more or less compatible with any chip. Thing is AMD's CPUs/APUs are all getting old, they haven't really put out anything new lately whereas Intel has. I wish AMD would come out with a new chip because without AMD Intel has no motivation to innovate quickly. Which is why I think Skylake will be a dud when it hits, it will be new and better, but not as good as they could have made it if only they had to beat out AMD with something. CPU's only account for a few FPS really, 5-10 at most and usually less than that as games are getting more and more geared to use the GPU for all computations vs CPU's. The "bottleneck" concept is overblown in my opinion. Unless you're trying to multitask while gaming, like stream or record your gameplay then you don't need more than 4 cores really. If you can afford an upgrade, do so, but remember it's about value more than just throwing money at the problem. Know how much better CPU X will do vs CPU Y before laying out good money. There are plenty of sites that do head to head comparisons of CPU's, CPU Boss is where I usually go because it lists the pros/cons for each.
I just watched JayZ bottleneck video and now i feel very ignorant.. Seem's like I have ALOT of research to do but I'll be back, i'm sure i'll have a million more questions haha. Thank you for the help man your awesome!
I'm still using an i7 4790K and with 16GB RAM 2400Mhz and 1.10 of vCore at 4.0Ghz with a Kraken x31 im having 58 degrees temps at benchmarking, and gaming 48-52 degrees, i don't need OC because with my GTX 1070 Ti i'm playing BFV at 108-127 FPS with a 144Hz monitor, i'm enjoying it a lot :D
I'm still running a 4790k on air and am very pleased with the performance. I built my current system in Nov 2015. Over that time I've upgraded the SSD and GPU as well as going from 8GB RAM at 1600 to 16GB at 2133. I'll admit that the temptation to upgrade has been hard to resist with the new Zen 3 stuff or when the i9-9900k was $299 at Microcenter. Guess I'll wait until my Z97 based system goes tits up.
im similar to you, Nov 2015. Upgraded everything except cpu, I recently got a 3080 and play at 4k so the bottleneck isn't too bad. Might get the 13900k but i'm fine waiting a few more years as there haven't really been many cpu intensive games i'm interested in.
Fantastic series! Gotten so much up to date from my 5 year old system. Went with a z97, I7 4790k and 980gtx. This new rig is gonna last way longer than 5 years ^
thank you watching your vids made me make my first oc on my 4770k. i was having temp issu on dirty stock cooler (100 celcius core and lag spikes du to over heat) so i bought an evo 212 from cooler master (big air cooler) now im at 87 percentil on pass mark with a small oc to 4 ghz and system totally stable good job for opening my eyes
i'm looking up old cpu vids to "upgrade" my fx-8350 without going ddr4 and emptying my pockets. interesting where you mention cresting 100k subs...now your at 1.3M way to go man love the channel and where you've come. keep it up!
The TIM on the Haswell processors is beyond bad. I just replaced it on my 4690k with liquid metal, my temps dropped drastically. I am currently at 4.5GHz @1.25v on air, with a maximum temperature of 74°C in Prime95 28.10 (with AVX support). Before that, I was running at 4GHz @1.05v and I reached over 80°C in the same version of Prime95. I feel a little bit betrayed that a 230€ "k-series" processor uses TIM that is worse than no-name thermal paste...

if you haven't already upgraded just overclock. i doubt you'll be using 100% cpu in a game with a 1070 so the all you need to do is overclock
JaxsonAintHereBoi yeah, well said
ONE YEAR later you now have near 500k subscribers from your original 100k. Speechless.
2021 4790k gang
What we do without you Jayz!! great video
The only reason a gamer needs an i7 vs an i5 is for when you're doing more than just gaming at the same time. Streaming/GameCapture/AudioCapture... etc.
It's why I'm upgrading from my i5 to this chip.
*****
i5's aren't hyperthreadded, i7's are so it can handle twice as many jobs as an i5.
*****
I admit I'm more into Nvidia, but there is nothing wrong with the R9-290x that would make it more or less compatible with any chip.
That is one of the best looking builds I've ever seen.
100k a year ago. 616k today.

That 100k subscriber count... was beautiful to watch! Still got my 4790k. Now to watch this again, for the memories. 🤣
0:05 :"overclocking the 4970k"
you deserve it dude, been watching it from the UK for a year, especially the aluminum thing!!!!
4790k in 2020?
Represent, yo
I'm still using an i7 4790K and with 16GB RAM 2400Mhz and 1.10 of vCore at 4.0Ghz with a Kraken x31 im having 58 degrees temps at benchmarking, and gaming 48-52 degrees, i don't need OC because with my GTX 1070 Ti i'm playing BFV at 108-127 FPS with a 144Hz monitor, i'm enjoying it a lot :D
Also still using the 4790k and the need for overclocking has yet to reveal itself.
100,000 is so yesterday Jay, get on my level bro :P #Congratulations
This didnt age well
That rig looks dam fine all put together and running.
I am on a core i3 550.
Is the upgrade to the 4790k worth it ?
(OBVIOUS JOKE)
Haha I have the exact same processor.
MrMossyPS3 such a cute little thing
Niklas Ritzenhoff Does that old i3 have hyperthreading or not?
Niklas Ritzenhoff Haha does me fine for now :)
MrMossyPS3 for me too.

100k lol he has 2M now
About to cross 100K Subs. Can't belive you're at 2.2 million now! Well done :)
Who else is watching this in 2018?
Jay I just want to say you are my favorite P.C tec you-tuber by far, keep up the good work man.
Fantastic series! Gotten so much up to date from my 5 year old system. Went with a z97, I7 4790k and 980gtx. This new rig is gonna last way longer than 5 years ^
Just because I saw someone else post it. Been here since 10k subs and haves seeing your channel grow. Can't wait for you to hit another milestone
4 Years later I look up my cpu, and wow good job jay 900,000 susbscribers in 4 years... That's awesome.
Thank you Jay, for keeping us entertained
Good to hear it's running well, plan to pick up one in a month or two.
Less than 500 to go, Jay! Keep up the good work!
100k Subs. 6 years later. 2.48m. Boom!!! Well played Dude.
You're about to hit 1m subs Jay.
I've learned so much from you.
You're an inspiration, keep the good content.
Sweet, i picked up an L4. Cant wait to get the build done.
Skunkworks looks really great ... nice color and so clean; shines out even when in background :)
props on nearly 100,000 subs, keep going to 200,000!
thank you watching your vids made me make my first oc on my 4770k. i was having temp issu on dirty stock cooler (100 celcius core and lag spikes du to over heat) so i bought an evo 212 from cooler master (big air cooler)
now im at 87 percentil on pass mark with a small oc to 4 ghz and system totally stable good job for opening my eyes
i'm looking up old cpu vids to "upgrade" my fx-8350 without going ddr4 and emptying my pockets. interesting where you mention cresting 100k subs...now your at 1.3M way to go man love the channel and where you've come. keep it up!
No, thank you Jay for being you! Love your vids.
For you Jay it was a minimal change, I am building my first computer upgrading from a AMD Athlon x2 6000+
Congratz Jay for passing the 100k mark ! Love your videos !
WOW, this is barely two years old, yet Jay looks so much younger and fresher than he does in current videos
Jay, gotta say man, that is by far the sexiest PC I have ever seen. All the hard work was worth it. Also congrats on the 100,000!!!
just picked one up 2 months ago..upgraded from a played out fx 8350, this thing is a beast!
Jay, I've been with you since you had 3K subs and YOU'RE ALMOST AT 100K SUBSCRIBERS NOW! CONGRATS! :)
well done on near 100k subs here's to a million.
Who is giving these videos thumbs down? Jay makes some of the best PC tech videos I've ever seen!
Congrats on 100,000 subs! Keep the great content coming!
Project skunkworks looks sick! Nice build.
Been watching nothing but your videos and linus since I decided to beef up my pc for some hardcore gaming. Your videos are awesome!
3:12 I think you mean voltage regulation was moved onto the chip. Memory controller has been on-chip since sandy bridge.
I feel a little bit betrayed that a 230€ "k-series" processor uses TIM that is worse than no-name thermal paste...
congratulations jay
Still using it to this day, but I do see newer budget CPUs starting to beat it
I'm Just gonna say how much i love this video, i have been a fan of yours for ages and have just brought a £1100 build with this chip in it, it is perfect for me (this video) thanks so much for bringing this out! =D
100k...And now youre almost at a mill Jay!
