    That last video was great, and this one is too. THANK YOU for exploring both PC2 and elitism in Sim-Racing. I've got issues with PC2's Force Feedback & AI, but that doesn't mean it should be completely written off as it often is, and having grown up with GT2, I always appreciate it when a Racer builds personality with its menus and music.

      @@NikRomanoRacing Well I told you about it already, I just have this tendency to rewatch videos and wanted to point it out to Raycevik as mine was probably buried. But it does make a huge difference, I could suddenly feel all the small setup changes and catch slides. I'm still pretty shit at drifting, and think AC might still be better for that, but it's possible in PC2 to catch slides. Cars like the Toyota GT86 will also actually slide and do lazy drifts like real life unlike AC where it's almost impossible to break it loose.

      It came too late for Project CARS 3 though, which is doing a 180 and marching off into arcade lala-land. After all, simulation means approximating real world behavior in a virtual environment as good as possible, yet when you start to temper with the laws of Physics so you always have perfect grip for gameplay purposes you are no longer creating a simulator but rather an arcade game with a carefully selected amount of simulated fundamentals.
      So yeah, not enough sales had them selling the studio to Codemasters and figuring out new ways to make a better buck. All fine but it just isn't Project Community Assisted Racing Simulator anymore. No community was involved and simulation isn't the goal, leaving only racing. So yeah, Project R is what it should be called.

      @@NikRomanoRacing It certainly will be, since it feels to me like the essence of pCars 2, AMS, rF2 and AC or is fixing all stuff that is bad in pCars 2. The tyre-model in pCars 2 got way too forgiving with the updates, especially regarding heat. On release it was more like AC and it needed tyre-management even through a short race. You could drift a GT3-car once, but not twice in a row and generally the slicks in pCars 2 feels too soft and too forgiving, also lacking FFB. Cars in AMS2 are soft and forgiving or stiff and unforgiving depending on the car, but I always feel in control and confident until i loose control mostly because of over-confidence, overcooking tyres or both. There is a healthy margin for errors unlike in AC in many cars, but not too much like in pCars 2.

    I tried the F40 on AC and PC2.
    Totally different behavior, the PC2 one seems pretty unconvincing. To much grip on the rears and can't feel the turbos kicking in as in AC.
    In general cars in PC seem to be easier to drive fast.

    • @oj7177
      @oj7177 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends very much on the setup and tyres. Tweaking it to make it more precise could be the key to make the rear more lively
      If you're talking about the street version of the f40, i like to drive vintage cars on all terrain tyres or even on winter tyres, and they feel much more alive. But i still have to understand well the f40 setup, as i have a problem with the car suddenly gaining grip mid corner
      Also, bare in mind that you have never driven an f40, so you can't really know how it should behave unless you informed well by reading magazines. I remember being disappointed with the porsche 917 10 because it oversteered mid corner even on long fast corners, but after some reading i discovered that the car was doing the same thing in real life too

    After putting around 1100 hours in PC2 I can agree, it's pretty good. It's a shame people can't buy it anymore.
    I never really understood where the narrative around it being somehow less realistic then other sims came from but I guess It all has to do with expectations. I like dynamism in cars. And yeah PC2 was one of the best at that aspect. Sometimes it can get a bit wonky and some more complex cars do not have a proper simulation for all their features. But when it comes to letting the player experience pure driving fun it is second to none IMO.
    If you still have PC2 in your library I and didn't give it the time of day back then I urge you to give it a try. Jump in a Group 5 car or do some rallycross, or a hotlap in the BMW M1 Procar around the Ring. If you come back from that without having a grin on your face I don't think you understand what is fun about driving.

  • @AustinOgonoski
    @AustinOgonoski 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I completely understand the complaints in regards to polish or QoL features that are missing in pCars 2, but one complaint I've never understood is the driving itself. The vehicles behave no different than GTR 2 which was heralded as one of the greatest sims of all time, and the engine itself is a derivative of isiMotor; the team simply re-wrote enough of the engine to call it their own. Even worse, as you pointed out the people who criticize pC2 will then point to outdated, horrendous road cars on iRacing as the pinnacle of realism while a simple trip to the iRacing forums will reveal page after page of members begging iR to fix a given car because it has been broken for years and nobody races it anymore.

    Wow great video. PC2 is my favorite race game. In fact before I tried PC2 on a rift s, I did not care all that much about racing. Three weeks after trying it, I had bought a TSPC wheel and pedals. And In a few months it's going to be a DD wheel, with proper pedals and a HP Reverb G2. Even not taking the realism in to account. Things like the racing engineer had made it much easier for me to understand tuning the setup. It introduced me to cars I never though I would like. Just the level of detail of everything is insane. It's just a joy to sit in some cars an drive. I will often drive a slower car in a multi class race and smile as the LMP cars scream past me.

I had a similar experience the first time I loaded into a race in VR. My friend and I picked the 1960s era Lotus F1 cars at Laguna Seca, and as soon as it popped up we just sat there staring at the incredible detail on the cars, both inside and out. I specifically remember looking at the reflections on the exposed headers on his car gridded next to me. Very cool stuff.

    Just as i expected. I've never raced in a real track, but i drive cars irl too, and atleast the road cars always felt like they should in this game for me. FWD cars have understeer, but you can easily counter that by causing lift off oversteer to help rotate the car and maintain front end grip, and you can easily control RWD cars slides with proper throttle and wheel inputs. I like how race cars feel in this game, but i can't talk about those because I've never driven one irl.

  • @spaceyamgaming
    @spaceyamgaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love the video! I got PCars2 along with a few other sims (including AC) in a bundle for quite cheap, and it was the first one I tried out. I think there are a couple of big reasons why the handling gets complained about: If you're an inexperienced racer (like I was), and you find yourself in a career series like Formula C, where the first track is a cold Brno, and you've opted for the "loose" setup, you're absolutely going to have problems. In this scenario, the track is cold and the tyres never get up to temperature - which was absolutely infuriating to the point where I Google'd it, and the number of results for "Formula C has terrible handling" is quite extensive.
    But you know what?
    I wised up. I've spent nearly 200 hours in the game now, driven many different series and cars, and worked out - the default setups aren't necessarily bad, but the game doesn't necessarily choose the right tyres automatically. For example, Formula C doesn't have soft or hard slicks - only one type. So unless it's raining, it defaults to slicks regardless of track temperature. The better choice in this scenario are either sport or wet tyres.
    But then the next problem - I ended up significantly lowering the difficult on Formula C just so I could escape the series and get into a different car. It was only after that point, driving Group A, Clio Cup, Renault Trophy RS, Porsche Cayman, and Formula Renault, that if your throttle control isn't right... the car will do exactly what you tell it to do.
    These days I'm running around AI strength of 100, trying to iron out the rest of my flaws, and I am quite confident that if I put the time back into Formula C, I could be racing at a strength of 100 with the experience I've gained in around 100 hours driving time since then.
    I also found that driving Formula Renault actually helped me the first time I went back to a go kart track - I was posting times within 2-3 seconds of the faster on the leaderboard despite not having been there for over a year (still knew the track layout well). So obviously PCars2 is doing something right.

    Some players dont like force feedback of the game, but there are third party software to fix that, and then its pretty good. Best graphics, best immersion, best menu, best weather system, and whit the third party software it becomes pretty realistic too.

    My real life experience is ~100 races, probably 300 total track sessions and I think you're mostly accurate on PC2. I find it just slightly numb at the limit, but then all sims are compared to irl. I think rf2 and automobilista transmit the feeling of the tires a bit better, but it is a subtle difference, not huge. PC2 has some superb content however (the vintage stuff generally captures the visceral energy of a race car very well). Great intro btw.

The stock settings, or at least what I assume were the stock settings, give me enough feedback for me to know what the cars are doing.

      Hope so! I mostly use a G920, though I definitely appreciate the additional accuracy when I get to use the Fanatec 2.5 at the office...back when going to offices was a thing. I find that a better wheel matters much more for drifting than for grip driving.

      @@NikRomanoRacing I drift pretty well in AC with my G29. Had no issues on a DFGT before that either (I had modded pedals though). Before that I had a Fanatec Porshe GT3 AND LOVED IT TO DEATH... until it broke. So I then had them send me a replacement... that broke. So then I bought a DFGT with modded G25 pedals. That was in 2013. It still works like new and I'm waiting on my friends to get PCs to give it them. I bought a G29 with my PC in 2018 and it also still works and is the most I think I need for now. The only issue is when drifting at 2am while my daughter and wife are asleep. It gets pretty noisy.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I tried AC, ACC, Raceroom, PC2 amongst other sims.
    The ones I really enjoy are ACC and PC2 for the driving model.
    I do have complaints about PC2 tho :
    -the penalty system ! (that can be turned off )
    - the kerbs being whatthefuckityfuck on some parts
    - some lack of balance between cars in the same category ( you show the Group A in this vid, the skyline is SO OP in there. ), then that also can be fixxed by banning the use of a particular car in a championship.
    But the racingi in champs I commentate / participate in is just amazing and I had incredible battles on this game, which is, in the end, what we want, to have fun battle for positions.
    PS: I do know it's logical to have "OP cars" in categories if their real life counterparts were also OP. but still, makes everyone choose the same car if you don't stop them from doing so.

      Also, if I look by gametime, PC2is the only one I got more than 1000 hours on XD

    The only problem I see with PC2 is that the cars seem to be underpowered at high speed. For example the Nismo GT-R can normally hit 300kmh on the long straight line on Nurburgring. There's ton of videos of stock GT-Rs hitting that speed on Nurburgring however in PC2 it's impossible to go over 280kmh... Both my 2009 GT-R could go over 300 and my 2017 can also go. Tested in real life, but in PC2 it is impossible. And for people saying that I need to change setup, close radiator opening etc, that's not the issue. On a real gtr you do not have the option to close the radiator opening and you do not have to do anything to the car to be able to go 300+. It goes like that from factory.
