  • Trumpeter’s new tooled 1/350 scale Bismarck is reviewed in depth by world famous scale modeling author Mike Ashey. Mike's detailed review includes close-ups of the kit parts and a tape up review of the hull, main deck and the superstructure. In addition, Mike shows you how to fix the misalignment between the hull and the main deck.

    I like how Trumpeter started small and grown to class of its own.
    Great video and review, it so informative and explanatory like it should be.

    Excellent review. I like the tape up review part which gives the audience a direct look at the fitting.

      The tape ups are a great way to test fit all the parts.

    Nice review Mike! Just found your channel although I’ve owned a ship modeling book authored by you for a few years. The last Trumpeter kit I kind of threw together was their 1945 Indianapolis. Lots of superstructure assemblies putting panels together (PITA). Glad to see the absence of that in this kit. IIRC, Veteran Models makes some real nice resin and metal secondary guns etc. that would really enhance this kit! Thanks again Mike for the very informative review!

    well, actually, for the 105mm gun , the different mounts also have the different barrel (even all of them are the same as the SK C/33 105mm gun). the trumpter try to make the barrel parts be different but looks like not be very well. If you want to exchange the plastic parts into metal barrel parts, must be attention the difference of the 2 kinds of the 105mm barrel.

    Thank for your informative review, it was really helpful. Very detailed and tape up part is really step over usual "look what's inside" type of reviews.
    I really don't know how to feel about this kit, because while it looks as a real improvement when compared to previous Trumpeter kits it also shows it is still a Trumpeter, because fit is still not "Tamiya perfect" and those malformed AA gun barrels that needs to be replaced have simply no business being in the kit considering its price. And that's where I have my biggest issues with the kit, this kit retails for 250 USD and that's an awful amount of money for a Trumpeter kit. Better Trumpeter, but still a Trumpeter. I think the company went little too high with the price considering their older kits in the same scale are retailing under 100 USD.
    However, I really like those one piece superstructures though, that is a vast improvement compared with their previous kits using a method of "glue four sides and top", which was really annoying especially on ships like USS Arleigh Burke, which doesn't have a single right angle on its superstructure and that makes fitting very complicated.
    I have to disagree with you regarding the painting guide. I think this type of painting guide is sufficient for planes and armor kits, where you can ascertain how the kit should be painted from top, side and bellow views, but ships are very complicated to paint due to vast amount of details and it would really help if Trumpeter would show colors also in assembly guide (as is done for example with plane interiors), because I can't see from any available painting guide view how I should paint some detail, which is behind something and that's very common situation on ships. With a painting guide like this one needs a tons of pictures of various details on the ship, which is reasonably easy on current ships like that Arleigh Burke or museum ships, but kinda hard when dealing with Bismarck, which is resting on a ocean floor and whose pictures are limited and black white only.

    hi .i just want to ask if which is better of trumpeter bismarck 1/350 compare to tamiya bismarck 1/350 kit?

    • @scalemodeling
      @scalemodeling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trumpeter did a great job on the kit and the surface detail is far better than the Tamiya kit
      The AA gun barrels have issues but Black Cat models has 3D printed replacements

    I really wish the 1/200 version was detailed like this version and the parts were attached to the spur like the 1/200 the forward angles piece is attached at too many points and the plastic is too weak. My father gifted me this kit mistaking the size for 1/200 I will build the kit but it's not in my opinion a great kit

    I have Trumpeter's 1/700 Bismarck. I would get the 1/350 version, but it's almost the price of the 1/200 scale Bismarck.

    • @Incrediblebowlesmodels
      @Incrediblebowlesmodels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1/200 is much better just add a detail set or two to it and it's perfect
