So, on the clone discussion, since you were saying a couple games you weren't familiar with probably weren't actually clones of each other, just based on the way people use the term... I play both Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2. Marval rivals is *absolutely* an actual clone of overwatch. The team size is the same, the objectives on the maps and *kinds* of objectives you can get are totally identical, a HUGE number of the characters are just reskinned overwatch characters with a superhero theme. (The Hulk has the unique mechanic of DVa, for example, where after killing the big green guy you have to kill Bruce Banner or he'll be able to get back in his mech suit. I mean hulk out.) The one unique thing Marvel Rivals adds to the table is that you get a small bonus if someone on your team happens to be playing one of the two (or the only one) characters you get a pair-up bonus with.
I don't think that's a fair comparison, ow2 ain't even 6v6 any more and most games realize that 4-6 is the preferred size for team based games. The "unique" mechanics for OW have been omnipresent in the genre for nearly a decade. Like Trynet says you just need to have enough unique twists to justify existing. Ex, Moon knight having a deployable that allows you to get easy ricochets. I'm not gonna act like it's NEVER been done, but it's rare enough. You don't need to completely reinvent the wheel, it just has to have it's own unique spin to it. I'd argue the 3rd person camera and multi faceted kits and the roster being much more melee focused let's rivals differentiate itself from ow
My first run of the new patch was with Shiny flamethrower. Gotta be one of the most satisfying combos ever
