      Frrr they block practically 0 features behind a paywall and a “full” version is super cheap. Didn’t even feel like I needed it but I wanted to support a plug-in I fuck with heavy

      @@ashayVosher Yeah it has a lot that vital does not while vital has some things surge does not as well but not as much. Tons of LFOs and mod sources in surge, a large variety of oscillator types, including wave table, physical modeling and more, it's got ring mod, it's got A TON of effects available built in available in parallel or insert configuration. And the effects can be used on any sounds since the synth also comes with a separate effects plug in in order to use the effects on other sounds. It has a total of 6 available oscillators, separated into two different "layers" and each layer has its own filters, envelopes, LFOs and effects available.
      I HIGHLY recommend getting it, it is truly my go to synth for complicated sounds. It is my favorite synth, free or paid, and its free and open source so that's really cool to. Idk why it does not quite seem to get the same love as vital, probably because vital is arguably much more aesthetic.

    To upgrade to twin 3 it cost me £19 but I do have a student account. It's a nice upgrade that has made it a much more usable synth, twin 2 was lacking features

  • @Beatsbasteln
    @Beatsbasteln ปีที่แล้ว +4

    i think it's cool that they tried to find a solution to synthesis that excludes wavetables, because there are enough great wavetable synths out there already. but the synth barely offers any alternative feature that justifies it. i'm not very thrilled. it does sound good though

    It's pretty and nice to see a full EQ on it's engine. But other "standard" synths have so meany advanced features, even free ones, that this synth is not impressive in any way

    maybe they're waiting for twin 4 to add wavetables so that they can rake in the $$$

  • @morgan0
    @morgan0 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i feel like pigments would be better for this, you get the analog modeled stuff if you want and other stuff if you want. also if they wanna keep it feeling analog and different, fm would be nice, could have va waveshaping oscillators, basically a wavetable without stepping between waveforms, less powerful but it’s smooth and stuff like pwm sounds more correct, i’ve made some that morph between tri and saw, saw and sqr (well actually sharkfin, or like a highpassed square), and more, all in a much cooler way than blending waveforms either directly or thru fft, i don’t have an easy way to use any of them directly (reaktor is not the best ux for this) so i remake them as line source wavetables in vital

    • @morgan0
      @morgan0 ปีที่แล้ว

      also if someone at fabfilter is reading this, hire me and i’ll make tons of cool va waveshapers for you, you’ll be able to say it’s innovative and not be exaggerating cos basically nobody does this except pwm (and i bet sometimes that’s done as a wavetable). also wavetables don’t really work well with more than one control over the tone (except external stuff) but waveshapers do, i’ve made some with 4 or 5 controls, and any of them could have audio go in.

    I love FabFilter, but I think focusing more on the filter and emulating the drive is more important. Oscillators are secondary, even tertiary to a good filter model. Not a fan of the UI, if you're moving from an actual hardware synth, the interface is really vague. That's just me though. Edit for spelling

    I own too many softsynths including phaseplant but when ever I just need basic waveforms with a snit ton of features I always go to surgext. If I was stranded on an island and there was only one softsynth I could take with me it would be surge

    • @LunaRealized
      @LunaRealized ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of a poor choice imo. UVI Falcon has infinite possible wavetables with infinite layers per patch and any type of synthesis you can dream of. There’s a reason why professional sound designers/sampling engineers use Falcon almost exclusively. If you buy the expansions it has more presets than Omnisphere and Komplete 14 standard. Literally the only limit is CPU and your imagination.
      Also why not Pigments or Zebra 2? I’d argue they both have as many features as surge and more genre-versatile shaping options in regard to basic waveforms.

    Pigments 4 kills this and the upgrades have been free - and it's usually on sale for $99, same with PhasePlant. I feel Pigments does a better job at less harm on CPU resources than the rest however.

    It literally sounds like it's between Diva and Serum. I find the analog modelling way too thick sounding, everything just sounds too smooth, probably due to the over-sampling. It just doesn't have that bright buzz that you can get from Diva and Serum. Not worth £130 at all. UI has loads of annoying tiny circle areas that are hard to click. Other soft synths add a little tag, so you can move the outer ring of a two ring circle knob. Not being able to click back to zero with a double click is a nightmare. The oscillator section is all really dark, the knobs are too thin, it's all really busy and hurts my eyes. Should have learned from Diva.
    They have some updating to do for this to compete.

    I am not impressed by Twin 2 (edit: and also twin 3)....at all
    Where are all the NEW stuff
    We need more revolutionized ideas, not more analogue-modelled witchcraft
    I like Phase Plant and Falcon for precisely that reason, I love analogue synth like anybody else but why not analogue + more digital custom functionality
    I'm absolutely amazed at how Vital was made with the best wavetable editor out there, intention to do better will win 100% against someone who follows the path that is already there
