    Walking saved my life in motherhood, not even kidding. I had my third kid a year ago and daily walks has changed everything about my body, my mood, my parenting. It's amazing.

      Yup. The worst thing you can do when you have anxiety and depression is to just stay in bed and do nothing. It only makes it worse. You have to force yourself to get out of bed, and get your body moving. When I had my anxiety and depression, it was also accompanied by severe nausea. The nausea would make me just want to stay in bed and sleep. If it wasn't for my job which forced me out of bed, I would probably be dead by now. If anyone is reading this, and you are having similar symptoms like me, go out for a 30 minute walk right now. And walk every day, and as much as you can. Once your nausea goes away, it makes your depression much more manageable.

      @@TurnerTurnip man i also had the nausea... its crazy how many physical symptoms you have and dont even really realize the effect it has. i've been on lexapro for 2 months now and its been helping..

      @@dykula5017 When I have my anxiety panic attacks, I get a roller coaster feeling in my stomach. The feeling of free falling. And I also get the feeling of terror in my stomach, yet there's nothing to fear. It's like my body is producing some kind of fear chemical in my brain. Do you also have similar symptoms?

    My therapist told me that our brains don't know the difference between a "fake" thought and a factual thought. So faking it till you make and challenging unproductive thoughts with positive ones can help a lot. Same reason affirmations are so effective!

      That's not how it works for most people. Forced positivity can actually make people more depressed

      Unfortunately that is a terrible advice and many people feel more depressed when they try to force themselves to be more positive. To learn how to accept all feelings and emotions is more effective in the long run.

    thank you for this video ! One thing i would like to add is a tip my therapist told me : its not " my anxiety, or your anxiety. call it "the" anxiety so turns it just into a feeling instead of something you own."

    Audible sighing really helps me, and I mean a big loud exhale. Don’t care who’s around me or what they think- its a great way to calm down your nervous system in the moments where my negative thoughts are taking over and I feel myself going into a state of panic/ stress.

    MY GOD This video is so relatable. I'm always rushing, every day. It's so tiring and I can feel it killing me slowly. It's like something is chasing me and I have to be stressed about everything I do.
    I realized that I will have to get things done anyway. By worrying about it, I'm just making my life miserable. I have to think "Things will get done and I will be calm while getting them done." It's sooo hard, but I'm trying.

    Sarah, I was not expecting this but I literally started feeling really emotional right when you said “I didn’t used to be this way”. I have spoken those exact words to the people in my life who support me and know about my anxieties, and it really struck home for me when you said it too!     These are great tips Sarah! I'm 41 and I was diagnosed with anxiety and OCD when I was 13. I've had periods of my life when I've been ok and managing to live a life where it didn't impact me so much but after I had my son at 30 it was at it's worst. I remember the huge stigma there was to be diagnosed with anything mental health related in the early 90s and to be honest the shame and sense of failure I used to feel as a child labelled as "having problems" has stuck with me. It's only now people are so open about struggling (thanks to social media) that I realise just how many people this effects and that has been a huge help. My best tip is do it before you can think about it, just do it and then your in the situation. Often I feel the build up is so much worse that what you have to do especially if like me you let it drag out for days.

    Everything you have said in this video speaks to me so much. The acceptance. The slowing down. The fact that we have to actively participate in these things if we want to feel better. To someone who doesn’t experience anxiety in this way, they may not understand. But for so many of us, we see this, and we see you, and in seeing eachother we all feel a little less alone, I think.     ngl things like 'touching grass' (going outside) walking etc (painting I do too) really help because it gives you an outlet for that pent up anxiety. I've been formerly diagnosed with GAD as well as other things (bipolar, bpd, cptsd) and it totally does help.

    I struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, which led to an addiction to benzos and opiates to cope. But, I did a lot of work and I've been clean for over a year now. Not only that but my anxiety has never been better.
    It gets better.

    breathwork videos have been a huge game changer for my mental health. i noticed my was breathing so extremely shallow almost all the time and my brain feels soo much better when i take time to do some deep breathing. i also would struggle to try and meditate but i really don’t think it’s for me at this time lol.

    I have generalized anxiety and OCD so I'm used to feeling stress 24/7 but my career was really taking a toll on my mental health. I had hit rock bottom in 2022. I quit my job and started looking for a job outside of 10 year long career. It helped me tremendously but I still had crippling anxiety. I started taking ashwaganda and it has been a life changer for me. It''s such an amazing feeling to not feel like my world is gonna come crashing down every second of my life. I highly suggest speaking with a doctor and trying ashwaganda because it's been life changing for me.

    Sarah, I’m not trying to be para social here, but your perspective on many things in your life are so relatable and refreshing to hear. I struggle so much with anxiety and although I’m child free by choice, I feel you in the moments of your own anxiety relating to motherhood and your dad passing without a will. Weird how our lives are mirroring in a way. Anyway, all of that to say, thank you for talking about your experiences. The way you stop and think about your anxiety and are able to use tools to redirect your anxiety is amazing! I’ve been in therapy for years and it’s a ton of work to do it yourself without any professional help. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family! Excited to see what comes next!

    Anything that stops my mind in its tracks and takes my full attention makes a huge difference. Reading is really great but when my anxiety is too high, I just can't get into a book. For those times, an audio book or a podcast works wonders. Having that sound in my ears, and a story to get lost in, helps so much. It really cuts through the internal noise. Or doing something with my hands like knitting, baking, a jigsaw.
    One of my absolute favourite quick tips: thinking about how things feel. Just look around the room and think about the texture of a nearby blanket, the carpet, the wall, your water bottle, etc. You can almost feel those sensations and it always helps to calm down my nervous system.

    Whenever I notice my anxiety getting overwhelming I think about if my future kids ever were to feel the way I’m feeling, what’d I tell them. I find it helps me think about my situation and my anxiety from a bigger perspective.

    Just found both of your channels & I really enjoy your content! Thank you for sharing so much in this one. I used to REALLY struggle with my stress & anxiety (I still do but not as much as before). The thing that really turned it around for me was the realization that whatever happens in my life is happening for a reason, much like what you were talking about with radical acceptance. There is a lesson to be learned, or a hardship I have to go through to be stronger on the other side. I am not a religious person, but I am spiritual & I do believe that everything The Universe throws our way is intentional & it's meant for us to get out on the other side better, stronger, & more equipped than before. Just knowing that has helped me out so much for some reason. I guess feeling like everything is in control helps as opposed to just feeling like everything is random chaos? Anyway, I hope you are continuing to feel better and as someone who is going through therapy, I def recommend and hope you find someone you like if you decide to go that route. We all need help sometimes & just talking with a neutral 3rd party person is extremely helpful in itself.
    Also, I hope you continue on this channel & do some Halloween shopping & decorating! But only if you feel like it of course :)

    anxiety is so so so debilitating. I started lexapro like 2 months ago and its so crazy how i used to feel. towards just before i went on it, i was running around in a constant state of panic. now that im feeling a bit better, I also realized the physical effects it had on my body. its really crazy and im glad you're taking it seriously and doing something about it. obviously it's good to accept having anxiety, but you also have to do something about it. I also hate how demonized meds are, its the only thing that has helped me (i'm also starting therapy again now with a therapist i feel comfortable with)

    I definitely need to schedule time to feel my feelings more. I'm constantly trying to distract myself and it doesnt help. Horror movies are such good therapy too. The world outside is scary but with horror I choose to feel the fear and it soothes me

    This is great advice. In a time when many more people than ever are experiencing anxiety, it’s important for everyone to understand that they're not alone and it's ok to not be okay and to find your own way of dealing with it and seek professional help if needed.

    I've had daydreams of having a kid and how my life would change; knowing that my anxiety and OCD would ramp up and hoping I would be forced to become "softer" over time and less controlling because I would end up going mad. What you're saying has already happened with switching to a 9-5 job and it's so fascinating what our brains do through transitions. But also my meds are finally helping so yay for that

    Something that always works for me even to this day is the power of a PEP TALK right before going somewhere or walking into a gathering or store. Literally just taking a few minutes and chant and tell myself that it’s okay or that I can do it, that I have no reason to be nervous etc. You can be more specific in different situations. I have always been an introvert with a lot of anxiety so my dad told me to slow down and pretend whatever it is that I need at the moment right before doing said thing that is triggering me. So basically a fake it till you make it method.😊

    Oh wow, I really do agree with you on walking as a mental health tool. So useful. Also, in case you're interested, for me IFS (Internal Family Systems) has been surprisingly helpful in re-framing my anxiety as a protective thought-structure; like a coping-skill that's been serving a purpose at some point in my life. At first I found the language of IFS parts work to be a bit poetic but its ideas of internal multiplicity consisting of the differing aspects of your own personality (created by different brain regions, experiences, emotions, and coping mechanisms, inner critics etc.) has made a lot of sense. It basically aims towards having an internal discussion between the different parts of your psyche, seeing what answers your subconscious provides, and offering healing and validation towards yourself from an empathetic place. There are a lot of interesting IFS demo sessions on YT and Kati Morton had pretty nice parts work video somewhat recently.

    I love this. I'm a social worker at a non profit and my current role is in an in-home family service program, essentially I meet with families who have child protective service involvement for various different reasons and we work on strengthening their protective factors. A lot of the skills and strategies you've listed here are the exact types of things we work on. When humans deal with trauma and crises, our brains go into fight or flight mode. Even as simple, straightforward, and silly some of these strategies might seem it is actually essential for us to slow down and remind ourselves of it. I recommend everyone get in the habit of creating and writing down real attainable short term goals to focus on for the sake of our own mental health, especially as you become parents. Thank you for this, would love more content in this realm!

    This sounds like a video I would have made for myself. All of those tips really work for me. The big one is when spinning slow down. Who’s rushing you? No one, just you. Taking the time to feel the feels is also a big one. I’ll make a playlist for how I need to feel to get it out but journaling works too.

    I don't have a young child anymore. My baby is about to be 25. I find that listening to podcasts a lot helps me with anxiety. I own a residential cleaning business and I work alone so listening to podcasts really gets me out of my head and helps me to not feel anxious. So anytime I'm working, in the car, doing chores or even taking a shower, I listen to podcasts and I love it. I'm a left leaning political junkie so I'm addicted to keeping updated on the world around me. The hardest part of my day (where I have to work the next day) is bedtime. I'm alone with my regular thoughts and it can keep me up when I know I am tired. It helps to have a fan blow air on my face, however. I find when my body is chilled, I'm less anxious.

    fighting it constantly might work but i imagine that could burn you out overtime, maybe medication would be a gamechanger, i don't know i've been putting going on it off myself for years, but many seem to say they help

    Watching your videos honestly helps me. Your so well spoken, your voice is very calming and soothing and you're so freaking relatable. You're just real. One of the realest on here, honestly. Its refreshing to see content creators like yourself being openly honest, and vulnerable with their feelings and letting us viewer's know that we're important enough to you, to be told these things.
    Everything you're practicing for your anxiety and mental health is so familiar to me as ive lived with anxiety for most of my life and its honestly work you have to put in every moment of every day (like you mentioned) to take control of it. Or atleast try to. For me personally, it wasnt enough and I sought out professional help along with prescription meds. Which have really been life changing. But its never a cure. Anxiety for some people unfortunate, is just part of who they are. So even doing everything sometimes, is not enough. But thats when we take your advice, by slowing down, accepting the way things are, doing practices that calm us, and being present in the moment.
    Anixety is an everyday battle. But talking about it like you have, is definitely a healthy weapon we can arm ourselves with.

    This entire video has been so inspiring for me. I've lived with GAD for 20 years but it's definitely gotten worse since 2020 (obviously). I've kind of let it control everything and I've gotten so used to that that it feels normal now. (I am on medication for it, but that just makes it functional anxiety, doesn't get rid of it.) I'm going to try a few of your suggestions and see if I can start to feel a little better for once.

    Ok, this was reallly helpful, I don't think I've realized how much of an anxious person I am, I rush through things, as simple as doing house chores or something I shouldn't be rushing, I'm always thinking of the next thing to do. Definitely a kind of wake up call to slow down when I need to and to keep up with some kind of physical activity to clear my head. It is true, I'm leaving my job in 2 weeks, and I'm stressed bc of that, that's understandable, it's ok, just don't let the anxiety control you 💓 Thank you for making this video, hope to see more of these soon (even tho I'd really watch whatever you upload on both your channels 😅)

    I feel all this. I constantly feel like everything is a chore and is overwhelming. It’s all hormonal crap, plus, I’m unemployed which doesn’t help. I am going to try the fake it til I make it. I find when I just get in the shower and get moving, I’m good. Great video!

    Regarding "faking being a calm person": In a way, that's one of the techniques you learn in actual therapy. We tend to be anxious due to our amygdala being hyper-active, and that is because we have been "gaslit" into thinking that we're in constant danger. So your body is telling you, for example, when power-walking through the grocery store: AAAAAAA! - to put it very eloquently. And to quote a fellow TH-camr I recently found and forgot the name of: "We're not healing anything. We're teaching the body that we're safe."
    "Pretending" works for you because you're actively working against the negative assumptions about life that have been put into your brain - either by an anxious parent, or society and/or advertisement that feeds off of your perceived shortcomings. Nowadays, we're incentivized to think that everything has to happen FAST, or something terrible will happen.

    Honestly loved this video, thanks so much for sharing! I've been in therapy for like five years, but recently decided to stop bc I've been feeling so stagnant for the past year and a half. I'm also pretty avoidant of feelings, and I tend to fall into the trap of intellectualising everything I feel - which is why I decided to stop talk therapy for a bit.
    What you said about scheduling time to feel your feelings, specifically by journaling and letting those feelings come up - genuinely absolutely blew my mind. What a game changer, I'm absolutely doing that. Intellectually, I know I need to feel my feelings - but I just could never figure out HOW. So genuinely thank you so much for sharing!!!!!
    I'm an ASMR head (was also really helpful to me re: PTSD spirals at night) so I was thrilled to see you mention ASMR. I will absolutely have to give hypnosis videos a try hehe

    i'm the same way with meditation. i just haven't found it works in my most anxious moments. eft tapping is helpful for me. gives me something to do w my hands/body and resets the nervous system.

    I really enjoy these mental health videos and simply the chance to catch up. What works for me is lying down and taking several deep breaths, finding a safe and quiet place to cry, or turning on a therapist video related to what I’m feeling. I also like reading a good book or hugging a stuffed animal.

    All of these tips are great reminders to someone like me who often forgets to acknowledge the level of anxiety I carry with me daily. 💗 I was recently diagnosed with ADHD (which was really surprising to me) and when you talked about rushing through the store, that made me think of how I feel about a lot of tasks. I’m learning how ADHD can cause a lot of anxiety and procrastination around tasks and productivity.

    I absolutely love xokatieasmr too!! I only found her channel a few weeks ago, but man I love her videos. They get me to relax in such an amazing way. This style of asmr might work well because like you said a high level of empathy. Lots of tingles haha

    I love that perspective on stress. Gonna try adopting that mentality myself. I recently started putting on ambient lofi before bed while I'm reading and I sleep like a rock now 😂 I also find it interesting how hypnosis in the traditional sense at least, works through bilateral stimulation, just like EMDR therapy does!

    Thank you for filming this and sharing. Much appreciated and hope you have better days ahead. Great advice on feeling what you need to feel, benefits of journaling, walking, etc.
    A thing that many don't want to discuss are the impacts that covid (sars cov2) has on the heart. It is all but a vascular virus at this point, rather than just a respiratory virus. My heart palpitations went way up after a mild infection. It took a good year for them to come back down. Covid infection is also tied to an increase in mental health issues. It is also dangerous for pregnant people and can create complications.
    Viruses in general are bad news, and exposure to them is not a good thing (yes, even for kids, sadly). Of course there are other factors, but there's a lot of covid going around; hope this helps at least a few people consider trying to avoid repeat covid infections.

    Guided breathing meditation has been really helpful for me, it does take some practice but it’s really good at slowing my mind down and being guided makes it easier to not get distracted by racing thoughts

    Loved this video! I have anxiety baseline but I know after my first was born it amped up my symptoms. I felt like if my husband wasn’t out doing the activity with me and my daughter then it felt impossible to do on my own with her. I feel like time helped me as well as doing small things to stretch out of my comfort zone. Katie Morton in YT is really great about explaining certain mental health issues and ways to combat their symptoms. Overall though, I feel like Katie really validates what we might be feeling and I feel like that is a big thing for me. It sounds like you’ve found some good coping skills that are helping my you move forward! Keep on keepin’ on!

    Over the last 7 years I developped a big anxiety of riding in a car/bus/basically any kind of everyday transport, because I developed a motion sickness. And because my anxiety manifests mainly as nausea, it created a viscious cycle of me getting anxious and sick even before I went anywhere by transport. I went to my GP and got antidepressants and it's so much better now! I don't get sick while travelling anymore, unless I try to read or do something on my phone, my anxiety is gone and I'm generally more stable emotionally. It's amazing!

    I myself give some time to journal(not every day but if I feel the need to even if nothing is going on it's just good to write things down) and I've been going back to the gym. Reading also helps and pairing it with lofi or classical music.

    I was hoping to learn new tips but i ended up just being validated bc i went through almost the same process. Cant do meditation so then started hypnosis videos on youtube, started falling asleep to Tracks to Relax, and discovered asmr similarly so its one or the other every night and have been working on being comfortable with discomfort in daily life to avoid the feeling i often have of being rushed

    Walking is underrated and beneficial in lots of ways, plus at this time of year I've seen deer and hares while on walks. I always ask what's the worst that can happen if I feel anxious about an upcoming event or appointment. It's easy to be in the mindset of nothing's ever going to improve when things have been bad for so long. I was rejected romantically just days ago and have been experiencing very dark and negative thoughts. I'm 27 now so it's easy to imagine that a relationship will never happen. I'm glad you've found ways of dealing with tricky challenges and it's amazing that you've shared your motherhood experience.

    I have a piece of paper on my fridge that just has the words “You are enough” printed on it. Sounds a bit silly but it helps remind me that whatever I’m thinking, I’m enough regardless of the outcome

    I had a doctors appointment today for chest pains, and when the nurse was asking why I was there. I explained to her my symptoms, and she was rude about it. I heard the PA and nurse asking why I was there today, they were laughing and making fun of me. because they said, “oh it’s just anxiety, that’s it.”

    Meditation definitely helps. I love watching and following the videos of a joyful monk from Tibet called Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. When I focus on the fundamentals/ the pillars of my health, my mental and physical well-being, I am less anxious. When I catch myself feeling constantly worried about things that might go wrong in my life (or in other people's lives), I remind myself that it's okay to trust myself, I'm going to figure things out (and others will, too).

    Since becoming a Mama 17 months ago my anxiety has never been worse. I’ve spoken to my doctor and he’s said that my hormones still haven’t balanced out, I’m in protector mode, I’m worried about what the future holds for my baby and “what if something happens to me”. I’ve been having thoughts of people throwing acid in my face, bombings, natural disasters. It’s crippling me. 😢

    My anxiety got so bad and I tried a bunch of different things but finally gave in and started taking Zoloft for it. Lucky for me that helped. Society/motherhood is so demanding and everything is so convoluted

    I actually picked up my phone to tell my theater-group that I wasn't gonna come tomorrow. I do totally feel this rush and stress for no reason. Last year I became a mom, moved to a new city, changed my job twice and I am currently in the process of changing my career completely and work from home as a 'day-mum' (taking a child into your home for the time their parents are at work. It's a form of daycare for parents who work unusual hours or can't afford regular daycare).
    Now I'm going, because I love it.
