Those headlights are by far the best thing I bought for my Tacoma and they are by far the best headlights on the aftermarket for the taco and what’s even better is everything there saying isn’t BS Thank you 🙏
I can think of 900 reasons why they shouldn't be on my truck...hehe. Joking aside these look so good and they allow the 2nd gen owners to play a little catch up with the current standard in new vehicle lighting. The OEM headlights have such low light output that the wife and I always joke about needing the cars next to us to really light up the road. Such a necessary but expensive upgrade.
Just put these on my 2014 TRD Off-Road and they look great. However, the installation instructions in the video are inaccurate, at least on my model. I installed the DRL wiring harness in the engine fuse box like the video said to do. Very shortly after, the truck had difficulty starting. When it finally did start, the check engine and traction control lights came on and wouldn’t turn off. I checked the instructions on Morimoto’s website and they have the harness tapping into the cab fuse box. I did that and haven’t had any problems since. Stick with the manufacturer instructions. Good video talking about the lights themselves though.
I installed these on my Tacoma. Overall I’d have to say I’m happy with them. Unfortunately you can’t use the switch back LED bulbs on these trucks they aren’t compatible you need to retain the OEM halogen bulb which will make your turn signal significantly less visible then the stock set up. Also just a heads up for anyone watching you can’t wire in the LED DTRL’s into the fuse box under the hood as demonstrated in the vid, if you do this they will periodically turn on and off for a few minutes throughout the day and night. To avoid this you need to tap into the fuse box inside the cabin unfortunately doing so will mean you can’t get the twilight setting to work properly.
When you say the switchbacks aren’t compatible, what do you mean? I installed these headlights and then the Morimoto switchbacks. They function, but now my truck is throwing a code? It didn’t have a code until I installed the switchbacks. Any help?
I just installed these on my '12 Tacoma using this guide. They look amazing. I also purchased the GTR Lighting LED turn signal (CK) Carbide 3157s with switchback function. When plugging in the LED turn signal bulbs, make sure the slightly staggered metal contacts are aligned in the socket. You can easily trial and error this when you reconnect the power and function test the turn signals. If the bulb is flipped the wrong way, they won't turn on and your trucks dash will hyper click. Just pull them back out and flip 180 degrees.
got these headlights on my truck for about a month now and I made a On & Off switch that way I could have the DRL light to stay off when I wanted it to be. Note: my 2013 tacoma does come equip with a DRL switch on the turn-signal lever and it functions from: OFF - DRL - PARKING LIGHTS - HEADLIGHTS. I had to the option to tap the XB LED's to the factory DRL's but I wanted mines to be controlled separately so I added a rocker switch in between the XB LED DRL wire. I did not put the fuse-tap where the video suggested, instead I tapped it into the fuse box inside on the IGNITION 15A fuse (that way we know for sure it will go on when the key is turned to ON). hope this helps for those of you that want the DRL to be switched ON or OFF.
What if you have the full time DRL from the factory, will the turn signal bulbs be used as the drl, or will the led bar replace it and the turn signal bulb will only come on when signaling?
it doesn't change the behavior of the DRL's if you have them stock. Ideally you put switchback bulbs so that you have a matching led DRL, but you can just run the stock bulbs if you want
just got a set of these in today, hoping i dont have to remove or loosen my aftermarket c4 fab hybrid front bumper, thats a huge pain compared to the stock bumper
So anybody running a c4 fabrications from bumper on a 2nd gen tacoma. You DO NOT need to loosen or remove the bumper at all to install these headlights, thankfully. However, there are two screws that attach a little plastic clip to the front of the truck, you can see these in the video, they hold on the little trim pieces under the headlights. We found that it's easier just to zip tie those back in place as that screw at the bottom of it was really hard to get out and nearly impossible to put back in. And these plastic clips clip in so they are very secure regardless. All in all the install was very simple and straight forward, anybody could do this. The only issue is just like others have mentioned, putting the "add a fuse" in the spot in this video will trigger your DRLs to randomly come on for a few minutes every few hours or so with the keys out of the truck as these trucks do an emissions check every few hours. In order to fix this you need to basically chop the add a fuse off the wire, run it through the fire wall, plug it into the small fuse panel above the emergency brake , there is a 15 Amp ignition powered fuse that you can replace with the add a fuse. Then everything works fine. I'm very pleased with the lights and they look great in the day or night. Would recommend but this video should be updated to atleast mention this fuse issue. This was my experience with a 2015 trd pro 2nd gen.
If it's a single sealed unit then if one part fails I'll have to send the entire headlight in for repair. I'll stick to my traditional reflector housing
