Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gave a great send off to the OG Guardians, but it teased an even bigger journey for Mantis, the Guardian a lot of us took for granted. [rocket saying list everyone, chick with antenna]. So if we’re going to go off of the comics as source material, mantis is going to play a huge role in avengers secret wars, and could be the key to creating a new marvel cinematic universe.
We’ve got videos out now about the next cosmic crossover, star-lord crossing over witht eh x-mena and the eternals, what’s next for a warlock movie. But we’ve ben saving this one bcquse this is all about culminating the multiverse saga.
Volume 3 ended with Mantis leaving on a journey of self discovery. So let’s talk about what adventures lie ahead for Mantis, how her journey connects to Kang, Secret Wars, and the X-Men. And, how she may be on the path to becoming the MCU’s Celestial Madonna.

So in Guardians 3 we hear Mantis talk about how her whole life she served Ego. Remember that Mantis, like Star-Lord, is also a child of Ego the Living Planet.
Her whole life she served Ego. Remember, she was one of ego’s many, many children that Yondu delivered to him. Ego hoped his kids would have a celestial spark inside them that would have allowed him to trigger the expansion. Ego killed the kids that were no use to him, but keot Mantis because her abilities helped hm to sleep. Remember that info for later
After joining the Guardians, she’s been a loyal member 0fnthe teeam, but never made her own decisions. So she ends Volume 3 leaving to go find herself and do what SHE wants to do. So basically a journey of self discovery, similar to the journey we think we’ll see Adam Warlock go on.

Back to mantis. In the MCU, she has been a really fun character. She’s adorable, funny, and the way her and Drax carried the Holiday Special was phenomenal. We evcen finally got to see her fight, and brilliantly combine her empooatjic abilities with action. But I think it’s fair to say that the MCU’s version of the Mantis character hasn’t yet reached her fullest potential.
Co-creator of the Mantis character, Steve Englehart, has even said that he wasn’t pleased with the MCU’s take on Mantis.
He said, “I was not happy with Mantis’ portrayal-That character has nothing to do with Mantis. I will say that I liked the film quite a bit overall, they’re doing good stuff and I enjoyed my night at the movies so long as I turned my brain off to the fact that that’s not Mantis up there. I really don’t know why you would take a character who is as distinctive as Mantis is and do a completely different character and still call her Mantis. That I do not know.”
Now personally I’ve loved what the MCU has done with Mantis, but I can understand why Englehart felt this way about his baby. But with the direction they seem to be taking Mantis after Guardians 3, I think Englehart may be happy with what’s to come for the character. Like Mantis said, she needs to find herself. So we need to remember that she has yet to become her true self and still has a lot of growing to do as a character.
Doug: So in the comics, what is she, like a big bug or something?
Oh buddy, you have no idea. Mantis was first introduced in 1973’s Avengers #112. In the comics, we see Mantis taken and “mutated” by the Kree. The Kree being the enormous alien empire we’ve met before in the MCU.

Yeah the fact that her being Starlords sibling meant little to nothing in GOTG3 after seeming so important when it was revealed, just shows there’s a bigger story coming for them two especially Mantis.
When ppl forget Mantis was the only one to neutralize Thanos. They could've chopped his arm off or killed him. In Avengers Infinity "what ifs" War

@@rz-yt Chthon literally lent chaos magic to the Scarlet Witch. He wrote the Darkhold and always beats her in the comics. As far as breaking the 4th wall characters, the writers could just write their death. They basically showed how Deadpool can be killed in DP2. You cannot kill all possible MCU writers lol
I knew Mantis would be big. I love how she’s grewn up already. She’s one of my favorite non-Earth characters so hopefully she’ll find her place soon (hopefully more than saving a population)
I didn't even think about her leaving as a possible power up for her. Vol 3 not only was a great end of a trilogy but it also left a lot of strings I'm very excited to see where they go with them

I think Vol. 2 would have been the perfect time to do that. Like, he could channel his powers through his guns. But since that didn't happen, I think we lost the chance of it ever happening.
With Peter now on Earth + Tiamut in the Indian Ocean still not addressed, I think there's great potential for Star-Lord to get his celestial powers back...and I think Mantis, being his half-sister, will play a pivotal role in making that happen!

I know I'm in the minority, but I have always loved Guardians 2.
The first half felt disjointed to me but the second half was fantastic
I massively agree with you with all of my timeline variants. GoG Vol2, may not have an eleborated plot to present you the antagonist of the movie, neither a very profound antagonist. But it's a movie that develops the personality of the characters introduced in the previous movie, and it helps to tell us that their story is that of overcoming the narcissism and emotional self-isolation that comes out as a result of encysted traumas of childhood.
Hot take: Guardians 1 is great, but over rated. Ronan is mid, has no character other than "i don't like this other species, I want to rule over them. Oooh I have power now and am over confident, I'll rule Thanos to"
Ego, and the twisting of his children to solely meet his own selfish desires, is a far deeper villain.
Also, the root of the story. Family reconnection. Sisters, father and son. More depth.

I just watched 1 and 2 after 3 and I'd still rewatch 2 more than the others. And to me, rewatch value is a major factor for me when ranking movies
3 is way too sad and heavy for me to want to watch again. It was probably the best movie in the MCU, but 2 will still rank higher because of the rewatch factor.
I'm not putting 3 in the background while working on my hobbies...same with Infinity War and Endgame.

Mantis, Drax, and Nebula were my favorite characters in Guardians. Any hope of getting to see ANY of them pop up in future MCU content is wonderful. The holiday special was fantastic and will be a new annual tradition to watch.
Pretty much Guardiand of the Galaxy are your favorite characters of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Same here. Love Guardians of the Galaxy and Mantis is my favorite in the team. I honestly liked her especially after the Holiday Special and Vol 3. She was a badass and also she's a sweetheart who is always looking out for the wellbeing of others. I hope we get to see more of her in the future.

James Gunn never showed her true potential but Mantis is actually a bad ass in the comics, I'm glad they finally showed she can fight like in the comics.
In the comics she was insufferably annoying and was just a sex object, the writer just shoved his oc in everything and created her with stereotypical woman shit.
Drax was very porwerful but the mcu didn't show his potential. I'm guessing because he's a supporting cast.
@@JJ-rf7dg yeah, in the comics he's a cosmic threat, especially before they nerfed him in the 2000's, the Drax I knew in the 90's comics was a bad ass cosmic being able to smash planets, fly, breath in space and could use energy blasts etc. Kinda sucks they nerfed him so much
I think that Pom Klementief/Mantis, was under used and I hope that will be corrected wherever that put HER.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) game, Mantis was already the Celestial Madonna, with lots of powers. I'd highly recommend checking it out, for the story.
I miss the rainbow rocks too. I'm also not sure He Who Remains actually "won" his multiversal war. It might just be possible that he pruned enough timelines to hide in his little corner of the multiverse.

this era of the MCU feels so convoluted that any theory, based on an established comic storyline, is as plausible as any other
This theory is really interesting, although I think that Doctor Doom might still play the part he did in Secret Wars and not Kang, while it is going to be Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch who will play that part of Franklin Richards and Molecule Man as Doom's power source.
Maybe Mantis will need Peter to be a battery for her when she needs to create a universe 🤔, but for more of a jump start not a permanent power supply like Ego needed for his endless creations.

Not exactly. He lost the celestial planet where he had god-like powers, but his DNA and celestial inner light remains intact. Because there’s nothing left of Ego’s for him to build on, Peter just doesn’t have a way to use his powers right now.
Ive ALWAYS loved Mantis and even in 2017 i said damn she might be more powerful in the future and i havent read a single comic so i hope that she is indeed the key to multiverse ending in secret wars

Peter didn't know about his powers in GOTG and only used them how Ego taught him in Vol 2 and believed Ego when he said his powers would be gone if he died. But that's not how genetics work. I think Peter still has his powers just like Mantis does.

Kamala was SUPPOSED to be a mutant in the comics but she was created at a time where the mutants were being put on the back burner for the Inhumans because of movie rights and TV shows. So the MCU version being a mutant is okay with me.

Mantis is the only MCU character I can think of whose powers are inherently feminine. While I love to see strong women punch, kick, stab, shoot, and fireball their way to victory over their opponents, I just feel like physical violence is a masculine method of problem solving, and its gotten a little old at this point seeing female lead after female lead being used to prove the point that a woman can do anything a man can do. I feel like between Black Widow, Valkyrie, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel and the women of Wakanda, that point has been made. So I'm hoping to see Mantis again, with stronger and more-developed empathy-based powers, and I'd really like to see other MCU characters, not necessarily just the women, displaying feminine power like she does. I have a feeling Marvel will deliver.

@@VivalaVeevee empathy isn't restricted to females, men can feel empathy too, but as a result of the differing hormone balances between males and females, empathy is considered a feminine trait as opposed to a masculine one.

It's funny, I really liked GoG2. It may not be at the top, but I love the dialog in Vol 2 one more than 1 and 3. And I loved vol 3. But the script did a great job establishing where they all stood and probably made it easy for the Russo Bros to get a running start when incorporating them in Infinity War/Endgame. Especially when it came to Nebula and Gamora's relationship.

Anyways, I like this tease of both Mantis & Warlock going off now on journeys of self discovery, but only if that means much broader philosophical versions of the two like in the Marvel comics. Also please tweak both their facial looks in time & make them more human/sensual. Part of their appeal in comics was they are profound, other-worldly & in time perfect beings! Read Steve Engleheart stuff. Kudos to Marvel though, heading in new direction!

Idk why many people think that Mantis having combat abilities is a surprise, she is part of a team of intergalactic mercenaries, of course she will be able to fight
I thought that maybe Mantis and some of them would return, like say that the MCU introduces Annihilus and they take parts from the Annhihilation storyline and Annihilus conquers the universe, or like 2/3 of the universe, like he is just winning, and they get together and Star Lord is like trying to hype up everyone, and they just look at him like, "Bruh." And it's just crickets.
I hope so. I hope we get to see this Guardians team at least one last time. They are too iconic and cool to be left out forever.

There will be a huge plot twist at the end of Kang Dynasty, maybe a betrayal or that Kang actually loses. To have him "surprisingly" win like Thanos seems to easy...
If Kang wins in The Kang Dynasty and is the main antagonist in Secret Wars, then what's the point of ever introducing Doctor Doom? Marvel would just be taking away from the highlight of his character and just give it to Kang.
Majors is gone, so let's hope they will use the opportunity to rethink the whole kang thing

This is my first video from Screen Crush. I came for the news about Mantis (one of the few Marvel characters played by an actor of East Asian heritage similar to my heritage), and I'm subscribing for the dog.
I don't know if the mighty Marvel Disney Lucas Empire will bank on a woman of non-White heritage to be a key role in their cinematic & multimedia multiverse, though. I'd also hate that studio executives will shadowban anyone previously involved with James Gunn's projects now that he's captain of the competing DCU.

Guardians 2 is one of my fav MCU movies, after Ragnarok. It's fun and something I can watch anytime. Many of the great MCU movies are too heavy for casual watching.
I also like the 2nd one because the character are established and just watch them being themselves and can enjoy it.
Not to say there wasn't serious story in the 2nd one, losing Yondu was no small thing, but it was earned and respected, not just sad.
Also, Mantis. I'm all for more Mantis. I think her innocence and ignorance of the Universe is endearing and that she ahould have more story. It would be kind of funny to see her literaly find herself...multiple times across the multiverse, but to what end...I'm not sure. I'm not convienced they'd make her so central to their plans...since they didn't give her a "will return" like Starlord.
Always fun to theorize though...thanks for the insight into her comic book story.
Yeah, I hope to see more of Mantis in the future as well. She's so innocent and adorable because she has lived most of her life sheltered by her father and even though she became much more confident in herself since gotg 2, she still has a lot of learning and growing up to do. Maybe the next time we see her she'll be a much more matured and wiser version of herself, while still having the fun loving and sweet side to herself that are core to her personality. I remain optimistic about her return. I don't know when, but i think she'll most definitely return in the future projects, since her powers have the potential to be co central for the next phase. Also, she's so adorable that anytime she's on screen, she steals the spotlight for me. Hope she returns in the future.

Comic Drake did a great breakdown of Mantis. For a bit more, I suggest going there to learn some very interesting facts. Mantis is her creator's Waifu and he gets a lil nuts over anything with her. Kinda like Nora to her Creator from Twinkle Nora Rock Me.

Or Starlord's powers aren't truely gone, but dormant. And may manifest in some way different than Gotg2. While Mantis' power was always dormant and her empathic abilities a mutatation causes or separate from her celestial origins. This leaves Starlord with a potential path evolving into a more powerful solo version. Food for thought.
Hey Ryan, dont know if you had a chance to play the recent Guardians of the Galaxy game but Mantis plays a small role, and her character is badass in that game. But do like mantis in the mcu, but I would love for her characters would come out of her shell and become the intriguing, witty, confident Mantis of that game
