I never would have thought I'd come across a video about someone reminiscing about their old desktop but here I am, I quite enjoyed listening to your words. here's to your old HP Pavilion. I don't blame file allocation being scrambled like that with an MS DOS game almost doubling the size of your disk, shame that happened though. I still have similar memories to my first laptop, in 2010. It was an old Toshiba and it was a pretty serious laptop, it had a 1tb hard drive and 8 gigs of memory. It was a pretty peppy for a laptop from 2010 and it was my dad's who he handed down to me. I loved it but I only had it for a couple of months before it did a.. what I like to call 'Commodore Syndrome' basically the charging brick went bad and it sent too much power to the laptop and fried it. I call it the Commodore Syndrome because, Commodore PCs in the 80s had power bricks that when they go bad, they send too much voltage to the pc and fries it.
Good to hear most files were salvaged at least. Things like this is why it's always a good idea to leave at least 10% of drive, be it HDD or SSD's capacity empty at all times. As for the old HP laptop, yeah, if it's as old as i think it is and it runs XP it's better to never connect it to the internet, then again, installing linux on it is always an option.
Cruel way to curse your days. I've never heard of a DOS game injecting itself into used directories but anything is possible when the programs were so rudimentary it wouldnt ask for any confirmation, just straight up completes its task no matter what. I've recently had one of my laptops overwrite its windows drive after i couldnt figure out which one of the partitions was the one i made specifically to boot only DOS. I wanted to learn to use it and not use the barebones one included on all motherboards. So apparently it doesnt matter if you have new fresh drives configured, the dos installer gave 0 shits about them and just formatted the whole disk to have its 40 megabytes installed on my 128gb hdd. It's not like i lost much since i had that laptop just for testing and stuff but still, it took ages to set up that laptop and get it to a somewhat functioning state in 2024. oh yea and my phone died just a week ago after the battery decided it doesnt like standard operating currents and now is undervolting or has a resistance leak. great battery what can I say
