    No other version could beat NES. It had better graphics, animation, frame rate, more enemies, better sound proper colors

    • @Leeki85
      @Leeki85 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No. NES has only better frame rate but it's just way worse than Amiga or DOS version. Amiga and PC have better sprites and animation. More frames, better designed characters. DOS port has good Adlib music, but it's not in the video unfortunately.
      Even though other ports have lower framerate, they have better gameplay.
      TMNT on NES is just way to hard, while DOS port is much more enjoyable. DOS port can also save game at any point. There's game breaking bug in US DOS release with impossible jump on map 3. It was fixed for EU release. US and EU have same port for DOS (unlike Amiga).
      Anyway I had DOS port back in the day and 10 years later I've played NES version. I didn't liked NES version at all. Same game, but worse, despite smoother FPS.
      Overall it's not great on all platforms, but it seems like publisher forced developers to not fix NES issues in other ports. For example DOS port has the same enemy respawn mechanic when you go back. Uncommon on PC, since computers already had more RAM than SNES + Sega Genesis combined. Yet in this game someone (probably publisher) forced such respawn that can spawn unlimited enemies like on NES that had just 2 KB of RAM and relied on read-only DATA from cartridge.

      The other version make the NES version look like a masterpiece! Well... Unless you like instant damage as the screen loads.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NES version has lots of programming flaws, like some bad hit detection, 30 fps lock (and still has slow downs), and balancing issues (there are many good videos on TH-cam about the programming part of this game), but it's not a bad game in overall. It's just tough.
      The other versions are ear and eye cancer compared to the NES / FC versions.

    • @f.k.b.16
      @f.k.b.16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ the FPS hits are so common for older games I rarely notice but crappy hit detection on top of a brutal difficulty made me hate this game as a kid. Seeing now makes me want to try again though.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@f.k.b.16 FPS drops are common, but they already sacrificed a lot by making it running at 30 fps instead of 60 and still the NES suffers running it.
      Some games like Contra with large amount of bullets on screen barely has slowdowns. TMNT for NES is just not well optimized and there are other coding issues. Delayed attacks, some hitboxes being totally offset, bizarre triple jump mechanics (there is a video about that, I didn't even realized the game basically has 3 specific jump heights, and really crappy low gravity physics)...

    BTW, fun trivia: the IBM versions (CGA and EGA) are unbeatable; in one of the missions (I believe the third one), there's a jump over a bottomless pit where, in the IBM version, the ceiling is too low, causing you to bonk your head and fall into the pit. It's impossible to cross the gap.

      According to "The Cutting Room Floor", the game was localized for the Japanese market before any other form of TMNT media (such as the movie and the animated series) reached the country. As a result, Konami decided to rebrand the game under a completely different title, GekiKame Ninja Den, which literally translates to "Radical Turtle Ninja Legend". Subsequent games in the series released in Japan stuck to the franchise's actual English title.

    I played this game on both the Amiga and the Nes, the Amiga version could have been a lot better than the Nes version considering the hardware difference but I felt the Nes version was better.
    It was the frame rate that was weird on the Amiga, it should have been slick smooth but it wasn't, it was basically a poor port, probably from the ST version.

    It has been decades since I played this on NES. Why were the mousers and foot soldiers replaced in some ports? Are those giant eye balls and flaming men enemies that appear elsewhere on NES or were they completely made up for Amstrad, Spectrum and MSX?
    Also, I always like the look of CPC games as long as nothing moves. They always look much nicer on screenshots than other 8-bit home computers. But in motion it seems a lot smoother on C64 as usual.

      They might’ve only been able to find a distributor/publisher in EU Europe and USA America

    • @davezanko9051
      @davezanko9051 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rushed ports. That's not only why they're all a bit terrible, but also why there's different ports for Europe and the US for the Amiga. While Konami (under their Ultra Games label) published the three home computer versions in the US themselves, they licensed the European rights to Image Works (a label of MirrorSoft). Being they were making versions for a bunch more platforms that were much less popular or outright non-existent in the US, they needed to have them developed anyway. So they just ported the Atari ST version (which wasn't released in the US) to the Amiga (a common practice) instead of waiting for the US version, which was developed by USI (later renamed Distinctive Software and now part of EA Canada), who would later make the PC-exclusive TMNT: Manhattan Missions (which always felt more like a direct sequel to this game than any of the arcade beat-em-ups).
      MirrorSoft was notorious for that sort of thing. Since they spammed ports of games to every conceivable computer, they often rushed out entirely separate ports to platforms instead of using existing ports. They did the same for the original Western European releases of Tetris, resulting in some platforms, like the Amiga, getting a different version than the US. Worst part is the US versions were made by Spectrum Holobyte, which was a sister company to MirrorSoft at the time, so the redundancy was even more pointless.
