"I always knew in some little part of my brain that it was wrong." Yes, this. And this is why meat eaters get so angry. They know it, too, and they don't like being reminded they are wrong.
Yes yes yes !! That's it !! Indeed !! "The Difficulty We Have In Accepting Responsibility For Our Behavior Lies In The Desire To Avoid The Pain Of The Consequences Of That Behavior." -M. Scott Peck
i actually went vegan overnight when i was 15, i lived in tunisia which is a very meat eater friendly 3rd world country, i didn't have options like a vegan cupcakes or pizza but i ate a lot of carbs, mostly potatoes and pasta, but i noticed how much happier i felt within the first week so i stuck with it, honestly i've always felt a strong connection with animals, and i feel a lot closer to them as a vegan, i've never even met a vegan person in real life in tunisia but i'm proud of myself for not giving a shit and sticking with my own mindset, thanks for being an awesome representative for vegans!! ^_^ xoxo
Hey i'm tunisian too, I'm 14 (almost 15 ;P) and I've been super interested in going vegan for the last couple of months, it's so hard tho because since I've been watching all these videos and documentaries about veganism i just noticed how much meat dairy and eggs is just everywhere and that we didn't have any vegan cheese or meat..etc. sold on the market. Plus only few (like 1%) of Tunisians are vegan. Srsly wanting to go vegan living in a family and in Tunisia is hard. But gonna do it anyway lol
I went vegan overnight after watching this video. I always said I couldn't go vegan and I'd just cut down on animal products but that's not enough. I am now full vegan for almost a week and I feel much healthier and happier 😄
Did the same 2 month ago and it's really easy once you just accept being vegan and see all the new stuff you can eat. I hope you informed yourself concearning b12 to be sure you don't run into trouble. Good luck on your journey, it get's easier every day.
LunnarisLP Thank you so much! I've been keeping up veganism (with the occasional slip-up with honey, oops) and I've found it to be really easy. I eat fortified foods with B12 added so thats fine 😄
Yep, as a 2,5 yr vegan I can confirm that it gets easier every day. After that time, being vegan is - to quote the Unnatural Vegan - a new normal for me. It's completely effortless and automatic for me. Had I known it would be this easy, I wouldn't have spent 11 pointless years being just a vegetarian (and thus supporting the unexcusable practices of the egg- and dairy-industry).
Moravian Wallachia I am still finding it easier- but whenever I go into the shops I find myself sighing at ice cream and chocolate I know I'll never have again... it makes me a bit sad to know I'll never have foods again that I enjoyed for 18 years of my life, but 5 minutes of enjoyment (or less) isnt worth a lifetime of pain for animals...
Weeaboo Lord there is vegan chocolate and ice cream and like everything these days.. It's different obv. but still delicious and chocolate pretty much tastes the same. There is plant based milk yoghurt and cream sauce and mayo. Most fruit ice already is vegan, like lemon or strawberry (in shops at least they usually are, ask if you are not sure). Obv. it's not the healthiest stuff, but it wasn't healthy to begin with. We even have vegan chokolate in the normal super market these days and with every person that goes vegan more and more new stuff will come into the market. In "Lidl" a german supermarket-chain we have the first frozen vegan pizza in germany now and it's pretty decent. It's obviously still fast food, but I think it's good to have vegan stuff that is made really fast and it sure as hell is healthier than most frozen pizza.
I think you are one of the most exemplary examples for beginning vegans, kind, rational, accepting and understanding. My journey began about a year ago and hearing someone like you encouraging us and not hating on those that aren't perfectly vegan makes me feel like you are one of the only people on this site who truly want this lifestyle to be accessible to all. You are an inspiration and your story was lovely. ROSES ARE RED! :)
thanks for representing veganism so good! many people think vegans are crazy and they don't take veganism seriously (like many do when they see freelee -.-) but you are just so nice! thank you so so much! you are beautiful
+Honja M. I feel like there are different types of vegans, there are those that are activists and that would use the internet as a away to inform others( similar to how people used to march on the streets to get their view across) and those that are vegan but don't inform others in such a loud way and have the "to each their own mentality". it may appear more in your face since the internet allows people from all over the world to have a voice and have a large audience, though i do feel being blunt can have its bad and good sides. Freelee is trying to inform others of what people should know and all other vegan channels also inform others just in different ways .
I went vegan overnight after reading what happens in the dairy industry online. That was 16 years ago. I knew it was wrong immediately and was snapped out of my speciesism and I've never looked back ❤️😊
Right now I'm a pescetarian. I tried to go vegan last year. I went cold turkey and maintained it for over a month before I started to crack. I eventually slid right back into eating meat full on and everything. This time I am taking steps. You are right about the 'turning off that part of your brain' thing. I totally did that but once you realize the truth it sticks to you. I am eating mostly vegan now but I do eat fish or dairy occasionally. I'm not proud of it, but it's the process I'm in.
I'm not creative with names It's about progress, not perfection! We're all human beings and we aren't perfect -- we'll never be. Good luck with your journey!!!
Should I be Vacuuming? Hi I was at this same stage not long ago , I'm now fully vegan I just keep reminding myself of how the oceans are dying and how the dairy industry is so cruel , you have the sensitivity there so keep reminding your self and you will stop eating those animal products
My story is really similar. I was the guy that ate the leftovers when we had bbq, even if I already had like 3 steaks and felt really full already and I wanted to have every meal with meat. I started with buying higher quality milk (in germany we have demeter, they basically let them have their horns and they can keep their baby for a week), but I soon realized that it's not enough and I still ate the cheap meat, just because I couldn't afford it and I had no realy relationship to pigs (In Germany you can see cows on a pasture outside, but you never get to see a single pig, even though we slaughter 50.000.000 (like 3/4 of a pig for each german) every year which just shows how shady this industry is, keeping the pigs in dark rooms, not showing them to the society in order to not give anyone second doubts or make connections between "steak" and "this cute pig". One day I watched a youtuber which made sarcastic videos and he was making fun of meat-eaters commenting below a pro vegan video. (Like "we have always eaten it and it's legal" comparing it with slavery and racism and showing that "bio" really isn't any better than other stuff). After that I watched earthlings and just like you something broke inside me and I cried for a while and in the next 1-2 dasy I was really depressed and felt really sad and somtimes randomly cried, but then I decided to really inform myself, and to life a better live from that point on. Nearly all my meals contained meat or at least dairy, therefore I'm really gladfull for your food videos. Have a beautiful day with red roses :)
LunnarisLP i hate when i go to a volksfest and see the Spannferkel there it hurts my heart and i have to shut up not to look crazy.... u are absolutely right..i felt depressed too after watchin Earthlings thanks for ur comment.....have a nice happy day from a fellow Vegan from Germany😊
yeh.. i understand i lives in Korea. as a vegan i feel the same. falks don't really understand what animal rights is. and my mom still offers me a meat. "i told you ma! please!!"
I know this is an old vid but I just found you and you're awesome and relatable! It's nice to find realistic vegans like you, thanks for being awesome!
Roses are so RED! I went vegan like, not even two weeks ago, and it's going great so far! I never thought I could do this because I hate apples, pears and bananas. But I realized I love oranges, berries, watermelon, so on, so on. And I ate so much meat and eggs everyday. I almost never ate veggies before. But meat became less and less appetizing the more I learnt about what we put animals through to get it. And veggies became so much fun to cook with! So many colors, tastes and scents! Way past that boring chicken breast with pasta every day. I am just starting out, and it's great to see people like you here on youtube to show us that it's possible to live differently and do what we believe it's right.
I'm still going strong! Even my parents stopped buying meat to cook at home! And my mom will even separate some food for me before she adds cheese in so I can share the meal with them :) it is much easier than I ever thought and I feel much better and I even lost a couple of kilos while eating as much as I feel like! Easiest vegan meal is shoving all your favourite veggies in a wok and serving with rice or pasta! :3 I hope you can soon find the guts to take the step, you won't regret it and the whole planet will thank you!
+Gabriela Marramaque What a supportive and loving family! I haven't had meat and eggs in a few days, I'm taking baby steps so I can get used to it easily.
They've gone back to buying animals to cook at home, but they'll eat whatever I cook and they make separate food for me without animal products. My grandma even learnt how to make chocolate cake without eggs and milk or butter for me! They are the best! And it becomes easier over time! :) It doesn't matter how long it takes you to go fully vegan, staying vegan is more important!
I in fact don't know anymore if I went vegan overnight or not. I first started to learn all the facts about the animal agriculture and esp. the dairy industry, so I started thinking about it a lot, and then about 2 months later, I saw the famous speech by Gary Yourofsky and that sealed the deal for me. After that I was left with literally no more excuses to hide behind, so I had no choice but to switch to veganism right the other day. This happened in February 2014, so I'll soon be celebrating my 3rd veganniversary :-)
Moravian Wallachia That's going vegan overnight!😆 Doesn't sound like you slowly cut out certain animal products but you stopped cold turkey. I was the same way, when you make the connection it's a no brainer
I went vegan overnight food wise but it took me a while to really go vegan with my makeup, clothes, hobbies etc. but that was mainly due to not knowing any better
Roses are red. . . I've been a vegetarian for about a year and a half now, and it wasn't until I started to do massive research for a research essay on veganism that I truly started to debate whether or not I should go vegan. After watching so many documentaries and actually being informed with the truth about how we actually get our food I'm working on my journey to become vegan. I've cut off dairy and eggs, but here and there I eat pastries or buy a coffee from a local coffee shop because I'm in a rush. Your videos have helped so much in my journey and I'm so thankful to you, keep doing what you're doing! (:
It's so awesome to see this video because I recently started transitioning to veganism and all I've really seen so far are people saying "anyone who needs time to transition and can't immediately become vegan is weak." And that just kind of brought me down, but then I watched yours and Kalel's videos and like they were just so positive and inspirational so thank you thank you thank you!!
Roses are red, this video relates to my journey. Having celiac disease and going vegan has been such a struggle for me and at times in the past I have had to choose products at restaurants that may have contained dairy or eggs as ingredients. Travelling for work can be very difficult, but I always tried to do the best I could. Everyones journey is different.
I'm not vegan (yet) but I've cut out meat completely for the past week and I don't eat much dairy anyway only cheese. But I need to make that final leap and cut out all animal products from my diet. But your videos are definitely helpful 🙂 looking forward to using some of your recipes
In my case it took three years. First year I cut red meats, and substituted for more chicken and fish. The following year I cut the chicken, and started eating tinned tuna. It was easy from then on. Humans are creatures of habit. You don't just quit, you find substitutes. I put on some weight at first tho. I ate too much breads and complex carbohydrates. Best wishes and a big hug.
That's funny, I first became a vegetarian after I took a moral theory class in college in 2009. except the professor was a vegetarian-consequentialist-buddhist so I became a vegetarian the second day we talked about it lol. I didn't cut dairy and eggs until this year, though. Veganism really is a journey: you're right.
ROSES ARE RED I was raised vegetarian so I've never eaten meat in my life. My dad was like 90% vegan, with the exception of the occasional chocolate bar. He ate only fruit besides that. He's read hundreds of books on nutrition and he recommended Freelee to me. So I started to watch Freelee and then because she recommended it I watched Cowspiracy and Earthlings and Gary Yourofsky's best speech ever. Did that in about a day, and then I went vegan, though only for like a month because then I got tempted by Italian gelato and gave up and figured I could just go vegan later in my life. A week later I watched more of Earthlings because I didn't finish it all and I was like omg this is horrible but I didn't eat meat anyway. So then I went vegan for good and I'm never going back. Now that I know about the dairy industry and egg industry I'll never ever eat that again. Soon after my dad went completely vegan and my sister went vegan as well.
Roses are red. :) You'd be surprised, Rose...vegans/vegetarians are not the only people watching. I am a meat eater & the idea of vegetarianism/veganism is something I've been thinking about for quite some time. Like you, I have been taking baby steps, with nearly eliminating red meat and pork. I mainly eat fish, chicken, and turkey and I am gradually phasing out these products. It is a process for some, especially when those around you don't have that lifestyle, so just know that your story is not in vain and it provides inspiration for people who have yet to embark on the journey.
That’s how I felt with my cat. My sister brought this tiny kitten for us to watch for 3 days. She ended up becoming my cat two months later. She slept in my bed, she laid next to me as I worked on homework, and she purred every time I kissed her tiny head. One day she was sleeping on my chest and I made the connection: some people in other countries eat your kind. I didn’t go vegan until one night in April (two months later) and I was eating Chick-fil-A. I cried. I literally started crying and my boyfriend had to comfort me. I told him I was never eating meat again. I went vegetarian and then veganism recently. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️❤️
I was a vegetarian for 8 and a half YEARS before going vegan. I tried it a year prior, failed, then started again 4 months ago and have been 100% vegan since, so I totally understand you when you say that it took a long time to transition haha! Oh & roses are red ;)
Roses are red! Thank you for sharing this story. It's my goal to eventually go vegan and this has helped me a lot. I currently am a vegetarian, which is already so hard for me sometimes because I live with my parents who do not approve of my eating habits. At this point i really feel like I would just be starting a huge war with them by going vegan, so I am sticking with vegetarianism for the mean time. It makes me feel a lot better to know there is someone else who went through the similar struggles.
+Stephanie Robinson aww that really does suck. Hopefully one day they'll understand. maybe start with eating more and more vegan meals :) thank you so much for watching
Hey Rose. Thank you for sharing your story and your journay. Strongly agree some points like the end you mentioned that even just a individual, I believe that we could start changing ourselves first. I am living in Toronto. I remember sometimes when I rode subway I see ppl were wearing a cardboards with pictures comparing our treaments to so called pets and live stockes. I totally with them, they are just all LIVES, ANIMALS like human. No difference. I used to be a vet for live stockes and have seen how disgusting the food fatutory is. I agree with you that there is not just one click to switch from what you used to be. Even though I was seeing how bad the animals being treated in the farm, I did not just turn myself to vegetarian right away. It really take lots of afforts, debates and whatever to really determine your mind. So I would like to encourage more ppl not give up and try in many ways to change our world. Thanks Rose again for your story.
Roses are Red!!! I went vegan pretty fast after browsing through Mercy For Animals Facebook page, and still am perfecting my journey also! But after going Vegan I, and definitely not immediately, started feeling healthier, happier, and just overall better than ever before!
Roses are Red. Loved the ramble. New vegan here. 1 month in. Always said i could never go vegan because i loved eggs and cheese too much. Just like you couldnt ignore the facts anymore. Still have to get around to watching earthlings. Just wanted to say i love your channel.
Roses are red! :) I so appreciate your approach to "the journey of veganism." You seem to be supportive and accepting of everyone's different journeys, rather than believing that there's only one right way. I've been showing an interest in veganism recently, (which is how I found your channel -- :-D of course) And I came across some very negative vegan channels before yours. That type of "passion" is a turn off. All of the harsh judgement, assumptions, and bashing, does not make a person want to stay for long lol. I really enjoy your channel.
Roses are red!!! I just started my journey about a month ago and first I'm just trying to be vegetarian the best I can, and actually it's been much easier than I thought! Love that you started this channel! And love that you're kind and understanding about it!
I recently became vegan in mid July 2016. I was already having 2-4 meat free days a week anyway, so mid June of 2016, I decided to see how many days I could be meat free. It was easy. .... then after watching some videos about vegans & health, how the whole meat process impacts the environment, & especially videos about slaughter houses & animal cruelty, I went vegan. It was easy for me, as I already hated milk, it's gross, yogurt is like rotten milk,& ice cream, well I ❤️ salty, spicy, savory foods, no sweet tooth here. Eggs smell like - well- fart , so I wasn't a big fan, but I did so love cheese. Other than that, it wasn't a hard change to make. My family- most of them think I'm the crazy one. Now I hate going out to eat at restaurants because there's very limited vegan options in the area of the South I live in. ( not going to be full with a freaking $8 little side salad, I can have a ginormous one at home for WAY less) I'm Sorry that was much longer than I meant for it to be!
Roses are red! I'm currently in psychological transition from being pescatarian for 5 years to turning vegan. Three weeks ago I found one of your videos and I've been watching more and more of your videos feeling the inspiration! I just found out that you're Korean too, so no wonder your recipes looks soooo delicious to me! Haha... I'm getting more and more inspired to physically turn vegan, hopefully very soon!
I cried the whole time watching earthlings as well, actually I couldn't finish it. I want to cry now just thinking about it. Anyone who can watch that and still eat meat...I don't even know what to think about that.
Roses are red. I have started transitioning to whole foods plant based for health reasons. After watching What the Health and all the substantial research behind this diet is what converted me. Found you looking for vegan recipes and I think I am slowly getting there. Meat has been easy to give up, dairy not as much but working on. I have been binging your videos and truly enjoy them. Thank you for being you!
I used to be such a meat loverrr(i so relate to the steak eating every day kind of lifestyle),i hated vegetables and only ate like 3 kind of fruits. I went vegetarian pretty much overnight because i had talked to a friend about it and it just made sense. I tried it out for a week and surprinsigly found it quite easy. I was eating a lot of substitutes at first because it was easier but then i started to eat way more veggies and legumes,etc..But i thought i just couldn’t go vegan because it was way too hard (but cheese ???,) but then i started feeling really uncomfortable about eating dairy / eggs so i stopped putting milk in my cereal etc, like replacing it with almond milk or any non dairy milk. But i’d have cheese when i was out and kept craving like chocolate and sweets. I never really liked eggs so omelets and stuff so that was easy to give up. It was on and off for a few months until this summer,i travelled with a friend and vegan options weren’t always available so i just said vegetarian cause i didn’t want to be « annoying » and one time we had omelets with cheese and i just felt like shit afterwards,i wasn’t digesting it well,it just left me feeling so bad. So it was like a relief to come back home and have my vegan meals,i was literally craving vegan food. I just realized it made me feel better (and i also started to bake veganized deserts wich are so good my non vegan family loves them) so yeah been vegan for a little over two months and loving it
Roses are red! I was a huge meat eater all my childhood,. A year ago I stopped eating meat and went pescatarian , and I tought by that time that this is perfect and completely ethical. Then a few months ago, maybe half a year It has happened that I watched Dominion and Earthlings, I hasn’t cried so much to a film. So I stopped fish and dairy and started eating only pasture raised eggs. But after two months I bought again grass fed local dairy, I tought that it is completely fine. And only a few days ago I saw that even in the most humane local freerange grassfed farm, they slaughter some of the lamps or calves… I was so sad, It was truly devastating.. so I went completely vegan, with food, cosmetics, I am not perfect of course but I am looking forward to it. Thank you so much for this video, It’s much like mine own journey ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Roses are red!! I went Vegan overnight, and it was the most intense life changing night of my life. It's just changed my life in so many great different ways :)
Roses are red! This makes me feel so happy! Thank you so much! I loved the collab with the Happy Pear (that's how I discovered Cheap Lazy Vegan - making mac and cheese tomorrow)! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS, they are a godsend!
Roses are red! My journey was also very long! I was "pescatarian" for a few years before going 100% vegan. It is a journey and everyone's path is a different one.
my vegan story: i was like hey this seems like it makes sense? i'll watch earthlings to start. literally have not eaten meat since that day lol the shock of what actually goes on is just... i rly dont understand how people can continue to consume meat in particular after watching that documentary. in the following months i proceeded to eliminate other animal products from my diet - milk, cheese, eggs, and other foods that contain dairy etc. never felt better :) also. im not binge watching your videos or anything..
I went vegan because i couldn't make it through any of those documentaries. Not even for 5 minutes. so graphic and unbelievably disgusting. Also my health. I have battled eating disorders in the past and this lifestyle allows me to feel good about what i eat. i dont count calories at all anymore and still eat junk food sometimes. i feel great ! thanks for the amazing recipes btw
This gives me a lot of hope. I went full vegetarian two years ago and have floated back and forth with veganism and pescetarianism. Other than fish, I haven't eaten meat in two years. Thank you for calling it a journey. It gives me a lot of hope. 😊❤
Roses ARE red. Thanks for what you do. Love your recipes and your journey which almost mirrors my journey to whole-food plant-based vegan diet. Still not at 100% but those baby steps toward reducing damage really count and add up over time. Thank you!
roses are red! I went vegan kind of by accident in a way. I realized I was lactose intolerant i had digestive issues for three years so i decided to cut out dairy and I thought it made sense to cut out meat as well since they go together. It's been a month and I no longer have to take pepto!!!! yay!!! I do occasionally crave a fat burger so I just carb up on spaghetti or rice instead.
I have the same issues im extremely lactose intolerant ! And when I eat beef or pork I get really sick. I've been dealing with digestive issues for 4 years. !
After watching The Cove and Food Inc. I became a vegetarian. That was 8 years ago. The last few years I struggled with going vegan. I knew I wanted to but I loved cheese way too much. This past January I decided to go vegan and have been ever since. I love it.
Roses are red! Thank you Rose for your story - I'm also on a long journey when it comes to going Vegan. I feel I make steps forward and then steps back all the time. I think the hardest part is changing a habitual way of eating when very few friends/family have made any diet changes. Also for me, when life gets full-on and I don't have a lot of time, I tend to fall back into old patterns. This is why I've enjoyed your meal in a week videos, as you make preparation easy and the food all looks really good. I'm making the effort to eat mainly Vegan again - and you are helping me!
For me, i had an argument with an animal rights philosopher in 1989. I stopped eating animals that day, even though i thought i'd won the argument - focusing winning an argument one is engaged on is somewhat stupid; paying attention to reality matters. Thanks for your very good video.
Hi Rose! Yup, some roses *are* red, (I did listen to it all - honest!!). I'm what I call 95%+ plant based and am happy at this level. To be honest, I find some vegans to be horribly judgemental, and the people they slam most are vegetarians. Get that! They're actually ruder to and about vegetarians than they are meat eaters, despite the fact that vegetarians are doing so much more for animals etc than the others, they're 'not doing enough'. (Not suggesting you're this type BTW.) Having said that, the oddest "you're not doing enough" I ever got was from a meat eater..!!! ;) I personally feel I can 'sell' my diet style best by being a pleasant and respectful human being and serving delicious, healthful food to guests. :) So, if anyone's 'angry' with you for any part of your story, they need to take a close look at their attitude and how they personify kindness....
Reduction is what I am supportive of. We can't force people to be 100% vegan. It's about what's sustainable for each person. If 95% of the world went 95% vegan, that would be wonderful.
Thank you for your enlightening story!! I have been on the same journey for three years now, a couple of baby steps taken, and was always criticizing myself. you have helped me to feel much better about it.
im also korean and to be honest it is hard to live as vegan here yet..but my family and friends are very supportive and u derstanding which is great! i love this lifetime change i used to eat everything i mean Anything ! and since lastyear i got acne and after a year of struggling and researching i finally camedown to this decision and this is good..i feel like for the first time in my life i am actually taking good care of myself....my old diet was meat meat meat cheese cheese cheese..very little fruits or veggies ...like..what was i thinking..i wish i had known better before my skin broke out so bad :(
I'm also Korean, and it's really hard to be vegetarian or vegan when everybody's eating kalbi and such delicious foods! What do you eat now and how has it affected you? Do you still eat Korean food and without the meat? Or do you eat things like veggie burritos and salads more? I'm interested in switching to a vegetarian lifestyle. (:
+MeganIsSoSmiley ikr?! soo hard to be vegan especially when you eat out... checkout my instagram page you can see what i eat ! my id is honeyhyeoni i am very strict with my diet for the sake of my skin....so no meat no added fat no oil no salt whatsoeverrr! i follow hclfv life style
+Cheap Lazy Vegan yess i live in korea at the moment.. my skin isnt clear yet :( i try not to lose hope...my period is getting late ever since i started eating this way..i wonder why ...because i had my period on the same date for the past 3months !
i really like this quote by angela davis: “The food we eat masks so much cruelty. “The fact that we can sit down and eat a piece of chicken without thinking about the horrendous conditions under which chickens are industrially bred in this country is a sign of the dangers of capitalism, how capitalism has colonized our minds. “The fact that we look no further than the commodity itself, the fact that we refuse to understand the relationships that underlie the commodities that we use on a daily basis. “And so food is like that.” - Angela Y. Davis
+Jeimy Denise I experienced the same 'boom' :-) after watching Gary Yourofsky's speech plus a couple of random lectures on how it absolutely doesn't make sense to consume dairy. Several months into being vegan, I saw a few other lectures that literally cemented my veganism. I like to say that I TURNED vegan because of G. Yourofsky's speech and STAYED vegan because of Dr. Melanie Joy's speech and C. Patrick-Goudreau's podcasts :-)
+Jeimy Denise if you ever watch "Glass Walls" by paul mccartney. that'd kinda do it for you. I still haven't watched it because I know what's gonna be in it and I can't handle that.
Roses are Red~ Thank you for sharing your story ! Actually, I'm still on the process on being a vegan and you know what...if someone told me like 1 year ago I would be following this path today, I would be LAUGHING at them with my steak on a plate :/ My health changed overnight, it was kinda saddening at the time I found out, but at the same time, (I will sound like a fool for this...) but thanks to my illness, I'm embarking on a journey, as you call it, that will take me & others on a better place. Around the time I started going on a the vegan way, I found your channel (January '16). You're a blessing, thank you for all the good vibes you're spreading on the vegan com, I truly appreciate it. Can't wait to completely drop the fish, I feel less ashamed hearing your story, and more confident about the future.
Wow, I know this is a SUPER old video (I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching lol) and I NEVER comment on videos, but your story resonates SOOO much with me. I love what you said about “I agreed with the idea of veganism, but I continued to eat fish around my family for their convenience” because I’m in that exact same situation right now on summer vacation from college. I cook my own vegan meals during the week, and on the weekends will still eat shrimp just to satisfy my parents. I plan on eating 100% vegan when I go back to school and have my own apartment. Thank you for sharing your story and emphasizing the value on the JOURNEY toward veganism.
I've been vegan since January 1st 2014 and it's the smartest thing I've ever done with my life! I will never ever ever eat meat again I wish I knew then what I know now. #veganisbeauty #veganislove
Roses are red 🌹 Thank you so much for everything. I've had a long road going vegan too, over many years and a lot of back and forth. In 2020 I went vegetarian again, and randomly found your videos. You gave me the courage and the tools to finally make the leap and go vegan. I never want to go back! I've watched all your videos backward, and now I'm here and I'm so glad you were with me on my journey. I've started converting my friends just by sharing delicious, simple recipes with them. I don't know if you'll see this, but thank you for everything ❤️
Roses are (sometimes) red! I'm glad to have stumbled upon your channel Rose - great videos! Don't ever worry about other vegans judging you. Most of our stories are similiar, I think, with slow, sustainable changes over longer periods of time. I realized that going vegan was the right choice after reading Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. However, it took 3 years for me to finally go totally vegan. In the 3 years, I slowly incorporated more vegetarian and vegan meals, and had to learn how to cook filling and delicious whole foods meals for myself. I read a lot of books like the starch solution, etc. and followed vegan youtubers. I met and befriended ONE vegan in real life, and that made the hugest difference, to know that this lifestyle was totally doable without having to watch one's social life die out. I encourage all transitioning/new vegans to find other vegan friends to share the journey with! There are of course many ways to stay social without needing everyone around you to be vegan, but it always helps to have like-minded people around you.
+manyadev We definitely have a similar story! Thank you so much for sharing yours and watching mine :) I used to worry about other vegans judging me so I almost didn't start this channel but I figured it's better to spread the message even if people call me a hypocrite :P
Roses are red!! I’m two days into the journey and I’m feeling pretty good about my decision. Thank you for letting me know it’s ok to take baby steps. 💕
My journey started with me going on a detox, to start eating more healthier, i felt so much better so when it was over i started to read the 22 day revolution, that was my trigger to become Vegan. I started watching TH-cam videos on vegans for beginners and here i am. I also watched a few preparations about the meat industry but it's really hard for me to watch. I know for a FACT ill never eat meat again or any dairy products. It's about Health Spirituality and the love and respect i have for animals. #RedRose 😊
thank you for your truthfulness. Yes, it is a journey. I'm on that journey. Your youtube posts are very encouraging. Right now I'm pescatarian. Ready to give up the eggs, diary and fish. It's not easy at 66 and living in an RV but it can be done and I am changing daily. Again thanks.
Thanks for the awesome video! I I started making the connection with my cats, and then Earthlings just broke my heart and changed my view forever. And yes, nobody in my day to day life is vegan, and it makes me different, but I was ready for that. I know we're making a difference and our numbers are growing!
Thank you for this video, I've been writing out loads of responses but I'm just going to stick with thank you for pointing out that everybody's journeys will be different. I really enjoy watching your recipes and I hope you'll continue to keep up the good work :)
roses are red, keep up the awesome videos! I really appreciate your channels emphasis on cheap and easy. I think that is one of the largest counter arguments i get when i talk to people is they think it is too hard to make enjoyable food on a budget. Of course it turns out nothing could be farther from the truth!
+GrahamAndFriends That's awesome :) I highly recommend still doing some ethical research and recognising all the benefits of a vegan diet both to yourself and to the environment & animals. :) thanks for watching xx
Roses are red! Also, it's so, so wonderful that you've made the transformation. We all have our own journeys - I'm glad yours has lead to a more compassionate lifestyle!
Roses are red, thank you for your story. Bought your ebooks and going to move out in 2 days to conquer my very long fear of cooking and fully embrace a vegan lifestyle. Thanks for doing what you do!
Roses are Red! I love it! haha! I have been a vegetarian for over 11 years and a few years ago I stopped drinking milk and recently I have started grabbing Dark Chocolate when I can. I definitely have said a million times "I don't think I could be vegan". So, it's nice to hear that I am not alone in that and it is something we can overcome. Thank you! I love watching your videos!
Roses are red. I am 51 years old and I have been vegan since 30 May 2019. I watched the movie "What the Health" on the 29th and switched and went shopping the next day. I am a Texan and ate meat, eggs, dairy, fish, pretty much anything that walked, crawled, swam or slithered. My diabetes was out of control and I tried the usual diets, especially low carb as well as the diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association, which was the worst by the way. The very next day after I went vegan my blood sugar was over 200 points lower than before. I am a proud vegan and I am never turning back. I have a 4 year old granddaughter and I want to see her graduate college and beyond. Even though they were shocked my wife and children have been extremely supportive. Thank you for sharing your journey! Much love from Fate Texas.
roses are red, oh my gosh thank you so much for making this video, Its just really nice and refreshing to hear someone talk about their trip ups and their real journey. Going vegan is hard just like changing any ingrained habit is hard. You cant just wake up one day and totally flip a switch. Thanks so much for being honest and great video
Roses are red! :D I can so relate to your story on so many levels... I started my journey about six years ago and just decided to really transition to a vegan lifestyle about two weeks ago. Never thought I would or could, but here I am! :D Thanks for sharing your story and please, keep posting recipes, they're awesome!
I have the exact same feelings about fish. I am plant based minus fish. I don't eat it too often. However that is definitely what I am in the middle of. Love your channel btw! Subscribed
Roses are red. Really enjoyed hearing your journey. I'm actually a gluten and dairy free vegetarian but going vegan for veganuary. I've got to budget and search hard because many free from breads contain egg. So this will be difficult, but definitely worth it. I'd like to add that I think it's wonderful that you are understanding of other people's journeys and I totally respect you for this. I don't particularly like hearing people who expects someone to jump into it as some people do really need to take little steps at a time. I feel we all need to understand that we are aiming for it, just some of us it will take longer to get there. Best wishes from Wales :)
Thank you for sharing your story!! Im from Brazil and Im now a vegan, I mean Im on my journey. Ive changed my eating habits and I think that by doing this is, is already a huge step. After months educating myself and years wishing I could stop eating animal products, now I see that just dont make sense to do it. Im very happy with my decision and I do believe that every little step can make the difference, just like you said. Looove your tips and recipes, youtube is so good for this transition, its helping me a lot to create different things to eat. xxx
Roses are red. I love you so much. I'm currently pollo-pescetarian for 1.5 years. After this video, I think I'm going to transition to pescetarian soon. I no longer drink milk, and I've been comparing agave and honey as well as looking for other vegan alternatives. Slow and steady, but I choose compassion for both animals and people who may not be able to quit cold turkey for various reasons. I do wonder what to do either eating out, though. I love trying out new desserts, but I don't think that'll be possible as a vegan in many places. Any advice?
Good luck in your journey :) Go at your own pace and you'll make it. oh and stay away from Freelee and other vegan nazis lol there's an app/site called happycow that can help you find vegan restaurants :) also you could call ahead(like, a week or so) and request for a restaurant to prepare something vegan for you vegan desserts are also becoming pretty popular nowadays in stores and stuffs so just search and you shall find! also, you could learn to make some :) try pinterest for awesome ideas
Nicole Waithira Did. You. Just. Say. Vegan. Dessert? 😢😢😢 In a restaurant?! Being more common?!!! #lifeisgood thank you thank you thank you! I'm inspired.
Me personally I just do seafood now I'm looking to become vegetarian bc I'm getting bored and tired of seafood a little. I hate regular milk and mayonnaise I can't stand cheese either so eventually I will become vegan
Roses are red, grass is green, I am going vegan after what I've just seen
you made my day !!
Moet je doen! :) Succes!
aww, that made me so happy! If you ever have questions, feel free to ask:)
Hope your doing this, for the animals not because of superficial purposes
🥰🥰
"I always knew in some little part of my brain that it was wrong." Yes, this. And this is why meat eaters get so angry. They know it, too, and they don't like being reminded they are wrong.
YAS, this ^^^ 100%
Yes yes yes !! That's it !! Indeed !!
"The Difficulty We Have In Accepting Responsibility For Our Behavior Lies In The Desire To Avoid The Pain Of The Consequences Of That Behavior."

i actually went vegan overnight when i was 15, i lived in tunisia which is a very meat eater friendly 3rd world country, i didn't have options like a vegan cupcakes or pizza but i ate a lot of carbs, mostly potatoes and pasta, but i noticed how much happier i felt within the first week so i stuck with it, honestly i've always felt a strong connection with animals, and i feel a lot closer to them as a vegan, i've never even met a vegan person in real life in tunisia but i'm proud of myself for not giving a shit and sticking with my own mindset, thanks for being an awesome representative for vegans!! ^_^ xoxo
Hahha vegan Moroccan here!! I know what it feels like being vegan in such countries where meat is just everywhere. Good to know tho :)
Yes, Rose you're amazing! Thank you for encouraging and supporting us on this journey.
Ray Sabes gahhh can I like this comment times a hundred? Thank you so much for your amazing words
SunshineLove thank you so much!!!!
Roses are red. I'm not vegan, yet. Really liked your story and your emphasis on veganism as a journey.
thank you so much!
thanks for representing veganism so good! many people think vegans are crazy and they don't take veganism seriously (like many do when they see freelee -.-) but you are just so nice! thank you so so much! you are beautiful
and roses are red haha ^^
Cheap Lazy Vegan Thanks dear. I appreciate your positive attitude. :)
Should I be Vacuuming? Hi I was at this same stage not long ago , I'm now fully vegan I just keep reminding myself of how the oceans are dying and how the dairy industry is so cruel , you have the sensitivity there so keep reminding your self and you will stop eating those animal products
Seaspiracy…
Same here! Love to see other vegans from Germany in these comments 🌸
Her personality is so engaging and appealing. A great advocate for veganism.
Vegan for 5 days now! :-)
+LegalEagle thank you so much! and that's awesome! hope veganism is treating you well :)
+LegalEagle awesome!! welcome!
It speaks volumes about your community that this video is so appreciated and there's such a great discussion in the comments!
yeh.. i understand i lives in Korea. as a vegan i feel the same. falks don't really understand what animal rights is. and my mom still offers me a meat. "i told you ma! please!!"
Hope you kept on. Fighting!
You give me hope to transition into veganism
:3 Glad I could inspire someone! I know you'll make it! :3
Thanks for sharing your journey. Anyone else here go vegan overnight?
I went vegan overnight but I had setbacks and made mistakes along the way. I've never looked at food the same after learning everything I know now.
Nikki Narrates Lol same. Just last week I added garlic spread on my potato wedges and then realized it contained parmesan cheese
I went vegan overnight food wise but it took me a while to really go vegan with my makeup, clothes, hobbies etc. but that was mainly due to not knowing any better
Thank you!! I am starting my journey, I am loving all of your videos!
+Sarahbabeara91 awww thank you! and welcome on board
it's a journey! keep it up, you rock!
P.S. I tried your vegan fettuccine alfredo recipe, and it was amazeballs!!!
Roses are red!!
great video...I'm not vegan yet but I'm starting my journey!!
MsTiya5 💕
I really hope your journey is going well! I myself am not vegan yet, but it is my greatest wish to become one :)
ROSES ARE RED
I was raised vegetarian so I've never eaten meat in my life.
+Naomi Horneman that's amazing! way to go, vegan family =) thanks for sharing your story
***** love you!! thank you for your comment
Rose! I just got done reading your first cookbook! It's good and I like how raw it is! Thank you for sharing your story!
Roses are red! I just found your channel and i love this video
Roses are red😁 Great video, I love your recipes too! Vegan for two years now and loving it!
Thanks Rose again for your story.
thank you for watching and sharing your story! =)
Roses are Red!!! I went vegan pretty fast after browsing through Mercy For Animals Facebook page, and still am perfecting my journey also! But after going Vegan I, and definitely not immediately, started feeling healthier, happier, and just overall better than ever before!
Thank you, thank you so much!
Roses are red! Thank you for sharing your story xxxx
I so appreciate your approach to "the journey of veganism."
You seem to be supportive and accepting of everyone's different journeys, rather than believing that there's only one right way.
I've been showing an interest in veganism recently, (which is how I found your channel -- :-D of course)
And I came across some very negative vegan channels before yours. That type of "passion" is a turn off. All of the harsh judgement, assumptions, and bashing, does not make a person want to stay for long lol.
I really enjoy your channel.
MB Wilson thank you for your amazing words
Roses are red!!! I just started my journey about a month ago and first I'm just trying to be vegetarian the best I can, and actually it's been much easier than I thought! Love that you started this channel! And love that you're kind and understanding about it!
My husband was the same...fish was the last to give up. Doesn't matter how u get there as long as u get there 😌
It was the same thing for me, I knew for years that vegans were right, it just took time to get there :)
Anyone who can watch that and still eat meat...I don't even know what to think about that.
roses are red ❤️
Roses are red. I have started transitioning to whole foods plant based for health reasons. After watching What the Health and all the substantial research behind this diet is what converted me. Found you looking for vegan recipes and I think I am slowly getting there. Meat has been easy to give up, dairy not as much but working on. I have been binging your videos and truly enjoy them. Thank you for being you!
The Korean movie she mentions is Le Grand Chef.
Roses are red. Subscribed! Thanks for reassuring me I can be vegan while also being cheap and lazy :)
Roses are red. And also I like that you had a journey, it gives me hope that I’ll be able to one day be where you are.
my vegan story: i was like hey this seems like it makes sense? i'll watch earthlings to start.
literally have not eaten meat since that day lol the shock of what actually goes on is just... i rly dont understand how people can continue to consume meat in particular after watching that documentary.
in the following months i proceeded to eliminate other animal products from my diet - milk, cheese, eggs, and other foods that contain dairy etc. never felt better :)
also. im not binge watching your videos or anything..
also, roses are red ;)
+becca marie hahaha i love this so much :)
ROSES ARE RED! I'm on my journey and so glad to have your videos and your help!
I feel like I need to take that path to make sure I become 100% vegan! I'm so glad I came across your channe 💞 thank you
Roses ARE red.
Kaneza cherie get a fat vegan burger!
After watching The Cove and Food Inc. I became a vegetarian. That was 8 years ago. The last few years I struggled with going vegan. I knew I wanted to but I loved cheese way too much. This past January I decided to go vegan and have been ever since. I love it.
I'm a cheap, lazy vegan too!!! Unite!
+Nicole Slade woooot!
Roses are red! Thanks for sharing your story. It makes me feel better about my "journey" and struggles also. :)
(Not suggesting you're this type BTW.) Having said that, the oddest "you're not doing enough" I ever got was from a meat eater..!!! ;)
I personally feel I can 'sell' my diet style best by being a pleasant and respectful human being and serving delicious, healthful food to guests.
Nikki Narrates Absolutely! What a difference it would make to animals, the environment and human health! Thanks for your kind encouragement. :)
+Hyeona J Are you living in Korea right now? It must be difficult following a vegan diet in Korea :) Is your skin clear now?? yay!
+MeganIsSoSmiley I still eat lots of Korean food :) well, right now I'm visiting home and my mama cooks for me hahaha
+Cheap Lazy Vegan yess i live in korea at the moment.. my skin isnt clear yet :( i try not to lose hope...my period is getting late ever since i started eating this way..i wonder why ...because i had my period on the same date for the past 3months !
i really like this quote by angela davis:
“The food we eat masks so much cruelty.
“And so food is like that.”
- Angela Y. Davis
I turned vegan overnight haha watched forks over knifes and boom vegan
hah i went vegan overnight too, it was a bit of a shock tbh
Same i. Going cold turkey vegan this week aha
same, I watched conspiracy and immediately became vegan.
Roses are Red~
Thank you for sharing your story !
I would never have known that you have only been vegan for less than a year! Amazing!
#RedRose 😊
Mrs Natural love this
And i feel great too 😊
thank you for your truthfulness. Yes, it is a journey. I'm on that journey. Your youtube posts are very encouraging. Right now I'm pescatarian. Ready to give up the eggs, diary and fish. It's not easy at 66 and living in an RV but it can be done and I am changing daily. Again thanks.
LOVE THIS!

Thanks for the awesome video! I I started making the connection with my cats, and then Earthlings just broke my heart and changed my view forever. And yes, nobody in my day to day life is vegan, and it makes me different, but I was ready for that. I know we're making a difference and our numbers are growing!
roses are red :) I watched earthlings and decided to go vegan about three months ago
I am going vegan for health reasons mainly.
Roses are red...fish was the last to go for my bf too. I'm happy you're vegan now =)
Pippi GlockenCake sigh i guess it is for a lot of people! Those poor fishes >_< thanks for watching, love
Cheap Lazy Vegan
It's harder for some to see fish the same as other land animals but it takes people like you and I to show them the light!
Roses are red, thank you for your story. Bought your ebooks and going to move out in 2 days to conquer my very long fear of cooking and fully embrace a vegan lifestyle. Thanks for doing what you do!
Roses are red
I'm going to bed
Roses are Red! I love it! haha! I have been a vegetarian for over 11 years and a few years ago I stopped drinking milk and recently I have started grabbing Dark Chocolate when I can. I definitely have said a million times "I don't think I could be vegan". So, it's nice to hear that I am not alone in that and it is something we can overcome. Thank you! I love watching your videos!
i love the way you represent veganism
ruins their meal * :)
💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋Very fascinating story thank you
I wish you success
roses are red, oh my gosh thank you so much for making this video, Its just really nice and refreshing to hear someone talk about their trip ups and their real journey. Going vegan is hard just like changing any ingrained habit is hard. You cant just wake up one day and totally flip a switch. Thanks so much for being honest and great video
I can't watch movies if an animal dies. I go on doesthedogdie.com to check before I watch them lol
+xpinkHOLIC Does anyone know if there are similar sites for other things, like "triggers"? I can't stand to see smoking (due to a traumatic event).
xpinkHOLIC hachi, I couldn't stop crying
Roses are red! :D
I can so relate to your story on so many levels... I started my journey about six years ago and just decided to really transition to a vegan lifestyle about two weeks ago. Never thought I would or could, but here I am! :D
Thanks for sharing your story and please, keep posting recipes, they're awesome!
Roses are red 🌹
Any advice?
Good luck in your journey :) Go at your own pace and you'll make it.
oh and stay away from Freelee and other vegan nazis lol
there's an app/site called happycow that can help you find vegan restaurants :)
also you could call ahead(like, a week or so) and request for a restaurant to prepare something vegan for you
vegan desserts are also becoming pretty popular nowadays in stores and stuffs so just search and you shall find!
also, you could learn to make some :) try pinterest for awesome ideas
Nicole Waithira Did. You. Just. Say. Vegan. Dessert? 😢😢😢
In a restaurant?! Being more common?!!! #lifeisgood thank you thank you thank you! I'm inspired.
Haha yeah! Don't be afraid to ask :)
Nicole Waithira I'll definitely keep that in mind going forward. Thank you.
Me personally I just do seafood now I'm looking to become vegetarian bc I'm getting bored and tired of seafood a little. I hate regular milk and mayonnaise I can't stand cheese either so eventually I will become vegan
