Also the those windshields aren't designed to totally block out wind. More to protect your microphone from damage against the wind. There are ones that block out wind but they are pretty expensive.
At the moment I have a Video Micro and thought of completing the collection by buying a VMP+ which I think has better sensitivity. But after seeing this content, I decided to keep using Video Micro because the results were almost the same. Thanks buddy!

The best thin to do is try and keep your camera's gain as low as possible. That will create a super clean signal. But if you can't get rid of the hiss, then you can always use software to remove the noise 👍 I like Adobe Audition, but a lot of people use Izotope plugins.
The Micro is more succepitble to wind because it has more sensitive pickups on the sides, I think. It records more room noise whereas the pro is for direct sound straight forward.

I don't usually do anything too special. Keeping the mic gain high with the camera gain low definitely helps. Every once in a while I'll use the equalizer in Final Cut to add a little bit of low and reduce a little high (since I have kind of a nasally voice).
Again and again I say this. The voice on the pro+ is richer. There is a noticeable difference. You get what you pay for but the video micro is good as a starter mic. I currently have the videomic pro which I believe is the same apart from the pro plus having a few added features such as rechargable battery and automatic power on when you turn the camera on.

Nice work, man. Would you know which Rode mic would best for "skits" or "short films" (some of which I do in my channel) made by Rode? My goal is reduce or rid of that background noise or ambiance from cars passing by and loud neighbors (upstairs; apartment w/ kids running around). I use the Comica V10ii but it captures too much noise and I cant get it too close to me in my videos or it will appear. Thanks in advance. Gabe.
videomicro sounds better to me. much sharper that resembles the high end shotgun mics like the sennheiser mkh416. the pro plus sounds more louder on the low and mids like a radio host mic, which is not my cup of tea as i'm a filmmaker.
Love your work / here is an issue I have - I would love to get the video micro - however I am switching between video and still a lot and I shot inside mostly so I usually have a flash attached to the hot shoe - is there any other way of mounting the video micro that’s not on the hot shoe so I don’t have to remove the flash and attach the microphone when switching between video and still? Heya! You can buy an accessory shoe bracket from a place like Best Buy or amazon that attached to the bottom of your camera (but still allows it to be attached to a tripod), and puts accessories off to the side instead of the top. They’re usually pretty cheap, sometimes under $20

Hi, been trying to find this one thing but for some reason it seems like no one has written or spoken about it in the internet But I was wondering how vmicro would work as a pc microphone for discord calls and such, maybe even some streaming tests in future. So I bought my first own own pc couple of days ago (some parts have yet to arrive ;( ) and was starting to think buying external microphone since I heard that headset mics aren’t just as good as they could be, I could get cheaper that round than buying dedicated mic, but that’s not that big of a problem, I just don’t want to waste money. I’ve been looking for a XLR mic for a bit longer while but since my budget has gotten pretty small, I can only afford a cheap amp and there’s not really enough budget for the mic Usb would probably be the best option but for some reason, it just doesn’t feel that appealing. But then I stumbled into videomicro, it fits perfectly into my budget, sounds good enough, and fits into one of my pc’s five audio jacks Or does it? Been reading something about two and three rings and I don’t really know which one is in my computer, let me check… But I still can’t find which one it is, it supports up to 2.5gbps but is it trs, trrs or does it even matter, does it affect audio or even work if it’s wrong, heck, does it even work correctly in the first place. I would be so grateful if you could give me your recommendations and little bit information weather it would work and how, do I need any software and does is work/sound good without or what kind of software works with it

Fortunately I have a really simple option for you: The Videomic Go II! It's newer than these and can act as a USB mic straight out of the box. I recently did a review on it, and I think it sounds great. It works on your camera just like these do, but it's also plug and play for a computer or tablet. 👍
Gday Tom , this might be a silly question, in think of get the Røde video mic Pro + for my canon camera , but was wondering have you plugged it in to the Rødecaster Pro , for when doing outside recording, like an OB , etc I know there is a plug you need to convert from 3.5 to the plug for the mic , thanks John
The noise is likely coming from your camera. Be sure your audio is set to Manual instead of Auto, and turn the level as low as possible while still getting a loud enough signal.
I get tons of hiss on the videomicro when plugged into my canon 80d.... how come there's no hiss (like a white noise sound) on yours? Did you plug it into a preamp?
Be sure that your audio settings are set to "Manual" and then keep your audio level slider as low as possible while still getting the level you want. If the camera's audio is set to "Auto" it'll do all kinds of weird things. 😬
@@tombuck Yep that was the very first thing I did... Def set to manual and adjusted the audio about 20 different times..... and even tried turning the wind attenuator on... Its still audible even with audio set at "manual" and makes the audio too low even after i raise the audio in post. Apparently all Canons have horrible preamps and only solution is to use a preamp or upgrade to the Rode Micro Video Pro plus as it offers the ability to raise the gain on the actual mic to 20 db.

For the camera, I use manual audio, with the gain turned up one quarter from the bottom (on Canon’s audio control). All other settings are default out of the box- nothing crazy.

Since the Videmic has a 3.5mm jack, you can always connect it to the TRRS channel on the RCP (or use the adapter that you now have). As for settings, it's a lot of trial and error to see what you think sounds best based on your voice and location. Don't be afraid to go in and play with every effect until you get something you like.

I'm having a nightmare of a time getting VideoMicro to sound good for voice over. I've been working on this for a month now.. Maybe it's better at a distance.
Also maybe I should be recording with the deadkitten on it. I thought that was only for outside but ONE of my issues is the plosives. May give that a shot. Maybe it will also make me sound less tinny? I'm not sure. If you could help me somehow, that would be great. My project has been really held back from this.. I was impressed with the VideoMicro on my taking head, so I decided to use it for my VoiceOver on this video. But. It's proving to be impossible to get accessible sound from it.
The Micro is awesome so you should be able to get a good result. What are you recording into? Your camera or a separate recorder? You might have already done this, but if not, be sure your camera's audio settings are set to "manual." Then lower the gain all the way, and slowly increase it until it's at the level you want. I would definitely recommend using the dead kitten. I keep mine on my Videomic Pro all the time, even though I mainly use it indoors. And the closer you can get to the mic, the better.
The Enthusiasm Project i’m using my iPhone 11. And recording under the covers. About 10 inches from the microphone. I have been using the Camera app on the phone but somebody suggested I use the Voice Record Pro. So I started using that, but it has a input gain Control that was confusing me. I think the first time I used it it was way too high and then the last time I used it was way too low. It says -10 however whenever I put it into Final Cut, it’s showing up -30 or -20. So with compression, I am raising the level, not 100% knowing what I’m doing, but going off of tutorials on TH-cam, however the room noise is louder that way. You can definitely hear some white noise. Last night I put on the dead kitten and recorded at level three input gain, and level 0 Input gain. Logic tells me that the zero input gain should be the best. I have not reviewed these files yet but we will see. People say it’s a great microphone on TH-cam. Yet everyone who is not a TH-camr, and does video production, tells me it’s not a great microphone and I need something better for voiceovers. People say I need to use my computer and I need to use a USB microphone. So I’m thinking of getting the NTG5 because it seems versatile and hopefully it will just automatically make my audio sound better? My thing is, I was recording with my phone microphone. Then I started using this. For Talking Heads. I was so impressed with it and the ease which is huge for me, so I decided to use it for voiceovers. So far it’s not been great. But also maybe I think my standards have just changed too
The Enthusiasm Project Nah still sounds tinny. The dead cat on it just makes it sound like it literally has something on it now. Not better. Pops are better yes but overall quality no.
Rode VideoMicro is not stable when connected to my iphone. A lot of interference static noises can pop up. Only works half of the time. Also the windscreen is basically non-existence when outdoors. I wouldn’t use it for outdoor recording.
the thing I've started to get annoyed with on my videomicro is that it sags down when mounted to a camera. e.g. @ 6:10. The single Lyre mount doesn't hold the weight very well and it ends up pointing down at the lens. If you have a lot of movement, it bounces around a lot.

Yep, the original Pro is the same mic, Just with different power/filter features. But in terms of audio quality, it's identical.

I’d recommend either the Videomic Pro Plus that’s in this video, or the Videomic NTG, which can also be used as a USB mic for voiceovers.

Rode VideoMicro mic is compatible with ROG phone 3 ?
I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine you'd need some sort of mic adapter for just about any phone.

Does the rodevideo micpro + have the same hissing sound as the micro? Because my audio sounds extremely horrible with the micro

If you’re working on voiceover, try getting 2-3 inches from the mic. The closer the better!

Rode VideoMicro is not stable when connected to my iphone. A lot of interference static noises can pop up. Only works half of the time. Also the windscreen is basically non-existence when outdoors. I wouldn’t use it for outdoor recording.
I own both, but Im still watching this xd
the thing I've started to get annoyed with on my videomicro is that it sags down when mounted to a camera. e.g. @ 6:10. The single Lyre mount doesn't hold the weight very well and it ends up pointing down at the lens. If you have a lot of movement, it bounces around a lot.
If you clip the cable into one of the slots on the accessory shoe lock, it’ll keep the mic in place more securely 👍
