Screen dimming - is this just not the result of the controller arms blocking the ambient light sensor, making the phone think it’s in a dark room and dimming the screen?
Big fan here Marcus. Thanks for all of your great content. One question: You mention your phone screen dimming. Im an android guy for the most part and i never use auto brightness for my phone screen. I put it about 50% for indoor use and 100% for outdoor. For my soon to arrive mini 2 se i imagine i will use 100% all of the time. What was up with your phone screen? Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Your take-off location is just breathtaking. What amazes me is that if someone were driving that dirt road at night, they could go right off the edge into the canyon. Scary thought.
Вот какую красоту сделали вулканы и передвижение ледников в конце ледникового периода.Просто изумительно красивые места.Я бы тоже не отказался полетать там на своих дронах.Спасибо за красивую картинку.
I definitely agree with your frustration regarding seeing a black phone screen during flight. It is difficult to see a phone screen on a sunny day, even if the phone is not overheating. I tried a sun shade a while back, but that was almost worthless. I still had to find shade to see the screen. I hope the drone industry can solve this problem without requiring the pilot to buy a $700 remote controller.
What a beautiful place to live and be able to fly drones. That canyon is magnificent. However, my knees got weak just watching that last part of the video...the part with the GoPro extended over the cliff-edge with the selfie stick. I hate extreme heights...no issue with small spaces (was a submarine officer in my youth - LA Class attack boat)...but I even get nervous in any skyscraper's elevator. Helo's...not so keen on those, either. Strange...but plane flights do not bother me one bit.
Thank you for your service in the silent service. Many years ago, I got the chance to tour an Ohio class boomer. As for drones, it is a thrill for sure! 🙂
@@IdahoQuadcopter That OH-class boat is a monster. 18 laps around the silo compartment is a mile. That LA boat was pretty large at 6800 tons displacement/360 ft...appreciated most when standing below it in dry dock. However, at sea, on the bridge...one could really appreciate how expansive the ocean is, in comparison. It really felt like a little boat in the ocean, given the sail top was only 17 feet above the hull's topside. My best memories were driving on the surface in the Carribean, with a bright full moon and the green bioluminescence from plankton...frothing along the bow wave. Magnificent.
@@IdahoQuadcopter Couldn’t agree more! Mini SE is such a good entry-level drone for its price and if you can spend a little bit more, then go for the Mini 2. Either way, you’re winning!
Can mini 1 batteries be charged using the mini 2 battery charger port thing? I’ve been looking for a flymore combo kit for the mini se here in the US. The only one I can find is one on eBay, but it’s like a mix and match unofficial flymore kit. It comes with the one mini 2 battery that comes in the standard mini se box, but the two extra batteries the fly more includes are mini 1 batteries. And the kit doesn’t include a three battery charger port, keep in mind the combo is $100 more rather than $150 like the usual fly more combo. It’s a mini se combo for $400 minus the charger port and with two mini 1 batteries instead of 3 mini 2 batteries.
@@IdahoQuadcopter they seem great and your reviews have been really helpful in deciding which one I want. I just don’t get why they don’t have a fly more combo for the se.

I only heard rumors about you flying at Snake River Canyon. First time watching you fly over there. Great Video. Love to look at the scenery. Great place to fly a drone.
Hi Marcus, good video, please, when will test again zino mini pro with new firmware 1.3.1? Seem is better now.. Thank you i will attend this your impartial test. Regards😊👍👍
I hooked up a Lenovo M10.1 HD tablet to my mini 2 controller and got a cable FINALLY that worked from Rick at Drone Valley. He is a great fellow and posts good info on his videos as well. I saw you at Jensen Beach in Florida and saw a friend (Dawn) my friend's wife's daughter sitting there enjoying the place exactly where you were. Dawn is a great friend and a lovely woman as well. She lives right there in Jensen Beach on the east coast there. I know her from living in St. Pete near me on the west coast side. Your step daughter is a doll and I liked her video. I also saw you at the Snake River again just today with 2 friends enjoying the air 2 S again. I wanted to mention to you about perfect landings no one knows much about. If you launch and allow the drone to rise then it stops, then go up to 30 feet or exactly 10 meters as you say and wait a few seconds still and then go fly the drone should land exactly on a pin prick of a spot as mine does every single time and it even states Compensating for a landing in a few words if it is windy. All of this always begins at the 30 foot height on return (RTH). The Minis except for the three will not do that. But all other drones have it including Mavic 1 pro, Mavic 2 pro, Mavic 1 Platinum, and Mavic 3 and 2 S as well. You have to go to that height and allow it to see the pad because if you do not it will not look for it when dropping to a 'FINAL' as it starts really looking at that 30 foot or 10 meter level. If not is is too late to adjust perfectly and will go by GPS only. When I first got my new Mavics all of them I had to select a box to do a exact landing several times and then it went away and does it all the time as long as I rise on take off and then after a second or two go up to that 30 foot or 10 meter height and pause again for a few seconds.. If you only go to 20 feet as you did it is too late when returning as a decision has already been made to use the GPS location. For me close is only good in horseshoes and hand grenades. LOL Ray C.
I loved this video on the DJIs and the scenery is spectacular. I just purchased the Mini SE and have only done one short "get the feel of it" flight and will be doing some more later today when it warms up a bit. My impression so far of the SE is the video is superb, but the stills, not so much. (I use a 24mp DSLR for still photography) One suggestion though for when your phone starts getting too hot; If had your vehicle positioned, you could raise the hatch and stand or sit under it to get the phone out of direct sunlight. Add a lawn chair and a cold beverage, and you are all set.
Enjoy your DJI flights over the snake river. Isn't the snake river about 600 feet below dedication point parking area? 400 AGL? However, if your within 400 ft of the canyon edge wouldn't that make it legal. Just asking? I also fly in the mountains and canyons here in Utah with my mavics and sometimes go 1000 ft above my starting point but try to keep within 400 ft horizontal of the mountain or canyon wall. I'm 73 and can't hike the steep mountains as much as I could 10 years ago. You can't beat exploring with a DJI drone. They open new opportunities for the handicapped and elderly.
I've owned the Mini 2. In your side by side, and to my surprise, I noticed more detail and a clearer image in the Mini SE. Did you guys noticed the same? Where the video settings identical in your test? One important difference for those that take aerial photos, is the ability of the Mini 2 to record photos in RAW format, more info with minimal sensor processing in your photos gives you more flexibility to edit.
I bought the mini se thinking it would be enough for my needs. I've only been able to fly it once so far (rain) but on that flight, I flew it only 75 meters away and slightly behind a tree, and it lost signal for about 15 seconds. (there were only 2 wifi signals that could've interfered, I live away from town) Im seriously considering returning it and spending $80 more on a dji refurbished mini 2
@@dosomestuff1949 Yeah it's weird. I watched a ton of reviews and fully understood what the range should be, and mine just completely failed to measure up. There was only 1 wifi connection nearby (my house, I live outside of any towns) but I have gigabit internet. The only thing I can think is that somehow faster internet can cause mtoe interference? Idk, it seems impossible which is why I didn't consider it before I bought it
When you say lost signal, do you mean control of the drone flight or the video image to your phone? I read that it uses WiFi (for video only) but the flight control is still by GPS? I'm looking at the Mini SE and Mini 2, although higher cost I am swayed by the Mini 2 for Octusync control, controller style/functions, x4 zoom; 4k is a bonus. I like the option to use the zoom to create a dolly zoom effect.
Thanks for the awesome footage and comparison of the two! I just purchased the SE ( $220 CDN less than the mini 2) and love it....except for the controller, not a fan of that at all, dont like how my bigger smartphone fits in it. The mini 2 controller looks waaay better.
Something else i thought of Marcus. Maybe it's a good idea to turn off phone charging on the controller when using it, as that would certainly cause the phone to get hotter. And the fact you are charging the phone and using it. I have never experienced a similar issue, but then i use Android phones, and never charge it while using it. Just a thought.🙂
Excellent video as always Marcus. May I suggest a packet of frozen peas held to the back of your phone could keep it cool. I've never done it, but just thought of it and it might help. Keep ghe great videos coming 👍. Regards Carey.
Great comparisment , ya both drones are great you just cant go wrong ,i was hoping you could do a video comparisment with the HZMP and the Mini 2 the other Y T wont or haven't done it , maybe if you get the Zino Mini working again you could do that
@@IdahoQuadcopter Well Marcus do you get the felling that might be a while , so dont be surprise if they do could be 4 months to a year right , any event Mini 2 is still king
Nice comparison and nice video at the snake river. I will admit though Its amazing to me that there is no guard fence or some sort of protection to prevent people and vehicles from going off the end of the canyon cliff. Thank You sir!
Hello Marcus Nice comparison and both Mini's have a good visual camera but a difference in the color grading and sharpness his noticeable. If I was standing by the cliff I would never get has close like you did. You never know when the rock will break loose. The rocks on the bottom definitely come from above, I would not get close to the edge just for a video. Stay safe and enjoy flying your drones. From Quebec Canada
I think the issue with the mini SE is when you fly it on an Wi-Fi infested area while the Mini 2 is great at flying anywhere. Thank you Marcus for the comparison. As always thumb up 👍 👍 👍 and liked!!!! Cheers 🍻 🍻 🍻 from the Philippines
Beep when in return to home does not bother me on any of my drones. At least one knows it's working properly. Also beeps for other warnings, i think are good. Your screen dimming, some other TH-camrs have mentioned that same issue. Awesome scenery Marcus.👍
Great video Marcus! With regards to the screen dimming issue on iPhone, I have seen some videos here in the UK that suggest putting the iPhone into Low Power mode on the battery, and switch the phone to Do Not Disturb. This seems to cure the overheating problem and screen dimming issue with iPhone following the DJI Fly App update 1.4.8. I have tried these two settings on my iPhone when flying with my Mavic Air 2 and have not yet experienced any performance issues with the screen or any overheating. Maybe worth a try?
@@IdahoQuadcopter I hope it works for you Marcus. Let me know how you get on! I hope to fly again tomorrow (Tuesday 21st) and will try it as well. Since the update I have only flown once and only had time for flying with one battery, however I had the 'fix' I described above input into my iPhone and did not experience any problems with screen dimming. Good luck!
for the quad range, endurance and capabilities, your correct and your getting MORE then what you paid for. the camera sensors though? Autel has em locked in
@@Matanumi yeah they do. Autel has 3 things that I would love to see on DJI mini's? The camera, flight time, and that fly wherever you want capabilities without restrictions. A DJI mini 3 with all that, plus the sensors? That's a drone no company will beat. At an affordable price of course? I think Autel would probably close their doors for good, but I like Autel also. It's just that I don't think they're reliable? I just don't trust them drones.
I'd take the Mini SE over the Mini 2 anyday, due to SE's better command stability after it's given an input from the remote or whatever device you use to fly the drone! I don't know if y'all noticed from other videos on youtube, but the mini 2 has a problem with wind resistance whenever it's given a command. The mini SE however, after it's given a command from the controller it stops right after the command has been performed it doesn't move an inch or two to the left or to the right up or down. The mini 2, has some difficulty that's clearly noticeable after a remote command has been given, it still moves an inch or two in the same direction where the command has been given, before it stabilizes itself!!
I imagine it would take a large format screen to see the difference between 2.7 and 4K. On a 32 inch screen I can see in the split what you would expect proportional differences but not real image quality differences. Yeah amazing scenery to be able video-graph.
Ha! I just noticed that I used the wrong UAV Forecast and B4Ufly screenshots. I'm sorry about that.
Screen dimming - is this just not the result of the controller arms blocking the ambient light sensor, making the phone think it’s in a dark room and dimming the screen?

I've owned the Mini 2. In your side by side, and to my surprise, I noticed more detail and a clearer image in the Mini SE.
Did you guys noticed the same? Where the video settings identical in your test?
One important difference for those that take aerial photos, is the ability of the Mini 2 to record photos in RAW format, more info with minimal sensor processing in your photos gives you more flexibility to edit.
I preferred the Mini 2 because of higher resolution. Both drones were in full auto for this comparison.
Zino mini pro is starting to act like a rookie. Great job Marcus.
Ha! It wouldn't even fly that day. 😁
Another superb and informative comparison; thank you Sir!
My pleasure! It was fun flying both drones. 👍
Great comparison video👍🏽
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
I bought the mini se thinking it would be enough for my needs. I've only been able to fly it once so far (rain) but on that flight, I flew it only 75 meters away and slightly behind a tree, and it lost signal for about 15 seconds. (there were only 2 wifi signals that could've interfered, I live away from town)
Im seriously considering returning it and spending $80 more on a dji refurbished mini 2
The Mini 2 is no doubt better signal wise as it uses occusync. 👍
Woah, that’s strange, I’m able to go wayyy further with mine.
Idk, it seems impossible which is why I didn't consider it before I bought it
@@mcnuggatron2129 did u out ur phone in airplane mode and did u make sure that the controller was pointed towards the drone?
When you say lost signal, do you mean control of the drone flight or the video image to your phone? I read that it uses WiFi (for video only) but the flight control is still by GPS?
I'm looking at the Mini SE and Mini 2, although higher cost I am swayed by the Mini 2 for Octusync control, controller style/functions, x4 zoom; 4k is a bonus. I like the option to use the zoom to create a dolly zoom effect.
What's the difference when flying in an area with obstacles and interference?
I don't know. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the awesome footage and comparison of the two! I just purchased the SE ( $220 CDN less than the mini 2) and love it....except for the controller, not a fan of that at all, dont like how my bigger smartphone fits in it. The mini 2 controller looks waaay better.
Thank you! The DJI Mini SE is just a steal. It's a wonderful little drone.
Thank you Glen! That makes a lot of sense.
I saw you stop recording on the se so it is fine.
I pay attention, HAHAHAHAHAHA
Ray
Excellent video as always Marcus. May I suggest a packet of frozen peas held to the back of your phone could keep it cool. I've never done it, but just thought of it and it might help. Keep ghe great videos coming 👍.
Regards Carey.
Not a bad idea! 😎 Thank you Carey!
Are there Super Big signs that warn people what's at the end of that road?
No signs at all. 😮
@@IdahoQuadcopter Gulp!
Fabulous views, both looked great :-)
Yes, I really like the quality of both of them.
Great comparisment , ya both drones are great you just cant go wrong ,i was hoping you could do a video comparisment with the HZMP and the Mini 2 the other Y T wont or haven't done it , maybe if you get the Zino Mini working again you could do that
I plan on doing that comparison. I'm wait for Hubsan to send me a replacement drone.
@@IdahoQuadcopter Well Marcus do you get the felling that might be a while , so dont be surprise if they do could be 4 months to a year right , any event Mini 2 is still king
Another fantastic video, thanks Marcus 👍🏻 and what a location 👍🏻🏴
Thank you Dave! I do love to fly there. 🙂
Nice comparison and nice video at the snake river. I will admit though Its amazing to me that there is no guard fence or some sort of protection to prevent people and vehicles from going off the end of the canyon cliff. Thank You sir!
Thank you! Yes, in that spot, there is only the edge. 😮
Another great video from Marcus let’s get this bird in the air
Thank you Robert! 👍
Watching this one again because you know I have the mini one and the mini 2 so I think I’m gonna get those birds in the air today Marcus
So, could you have inspected the cliffs below where you were standing or do you need actual line of sight to retain connection?
It does not take long to lose connection when you fly below the edge of the canyon.
Thank you @JG. Yes, I do get a little nervous that close to the edge. 😎
I like these but I use RTH a lot an d I don't want the beeping all the way back home!
Yeah, that beeping is annoying!
Do both controllers charge the phone ?do they have to charge the phone ?
Honestly, I've never noticed.
Which one is.more stable with wind
Mini 2.
The mini SE and mini 2 have thesame Propellers?
I think they do. DJI could tell you for sure.
Mini SE is the best way to get into drones, very easy to fly and very reliable. I owned mine for 2 1/2 years and I still fly it alot.
Really appreciate you insight and annalous ! What shade did you use with the SE on your phone?
Thank you! I don't have a shade for the SE. I do use the DJI shade on the RCN1 controller however.
I wonder how low the original mini se will drop in price?
It's a great deal on a great little drone. 👍
Thank you Sammy! I always enjoy your comments!
pinoy
Beep when in return to home does not bother me on any of my drones. At least one knows it's working properly. Also beeps for other warnings, i think are good. Your screen dimming, some other TH-camrs have mentioned that same issue. Awesome scenery Marcus.👍
Thank you Glen. 👍 All of those beeps make me crazy! 😀
@@IdahoQuadcopter 😂
Beautiful place
Thank you very much!
i love this video! thanks for the really good canyon view, thanks for the explenations :-)
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Peter. I need to give that a try. 👍
Good luck!
What's the name of this app ?? The one that tell you if it's safe to fly
B4UFly 👍
Awesome content!
Thank you again Javier!
It goes to show you, that NO other drones can compete with DJI. DJI is simply the best of all mini drones. Thanks for sharing
Yes, indeed, DJI wrote the book.
for the quad range, endurance and capabilities, your correct and your getting MORE then what you paid for.
the camera sensors though? Autel has em locked in
@@Matanumi yeah they do. Autel has 3 things that I would love to see on DJI mini's? The camera, flight time, and that fly wherever you want capabilities without restrictions.
A DJI mini 3 with all that, plus the sensors? That's a drone no company will beat. At an affordable price of course? I think Autel would probably close their doors for good, but I like Autel also. It's just that I don't think they're reliable? I just don't trust them drones.
Mini 2 will still be the gold standard in mini drones but the Mini SE is a very good alternative.
Yes, indeed. DJI is the top dog in the Mini drone arena.
@@IdahoQuadcopter Looking forward to more of your mini drone adventures. All the best to your channel!
Hello Marcus what are your thoughts on the DJI Crystalsky monitor? I don’t recall you mentioning it in your previous videos, would it have helped?
I like the crystal sky for it's brightness, however, the CPU is just not up to the job for newer apps.
Did you use any filters on the drones while filming this? Do you have any videos of the mini 2 using filters?
Yes, I did a review of the3 Freewell filters for the Mini 2.
@@IdahoQuadcopter can you post the link to that video? I cant seem to find it. Thanks
Would the Smart Controller go dark too?
No, that is a big advantage with the Smart Controller. It stays bright!
Really like your Videos, Keep it up..
Good video as always Marcus. Definitely two great drones, different from that cheap beta toy from hubsan!
Thank you! Yes, DJI is the top dog for a reason. 🙂
I imagine it would take a large format screen to see the difference between 2.7 and 4K. On a 32 inch screen I can see in the split what you would expect proportional differences but not real image quality differences. Yeah amazing scenery to be able video-graph.
I hear the Mini SE is on it's way out. it's too bad because it's such a great value.
Just ordered the SE, Mini 2 more than I need at the moment. Flying at sea. (good line of site) enhanced wifi probably going to fine for me.
The Mini 2 is wonderful.
You’ve got endless amazing places to fly in the US I’d love to fly my M2P there I’m green.
It is a fun place to fly Tim! 👍🙂
