The most depressed of people are capable of such beauty. He would be diagnosed today with depression but would have been called "Melancholia" as it was back in 1850-1900. His music is held together by a core of deep sadness and that's why his music endures.
I watched the Disney movie so many times, and this melody became the symbol of my early childhood. I didn't know, that Tchaikovsky wrote the music of Sleeping Beauty 'till today. I love it even more than before, now that I know it. 😍
Disney took the music and made it theirs by adding lyrics and changing the song name for their animated movie. Tchaikovsky died 8 years before Walt was born.
1:04 🎶I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem🎶
By far the BEST Disney animated film around and the BEST music of ANY animated film. My favorite! The Ballet music is also magnificent as is all the music by the legendary Russian composer.
i am 12 yrs old and in a launch off Cape Kidnappers in Hawke Bay New Zealand. I remember this being played on the ships radio and the rythm seemed to keep in time with the movement of the launch at anchor. The skipper was Sid Faulknor who with his wife Ngaire, was my stand-in father and who became a very special person in my early formative years.l
Oh man, I love the way that percussionist gets up at 2:23, walks over to the xylophone and plays it PERFECTLY from 2:34 to 3:06, then resumes his position at the drums at 3:29. How wonderful! It puts Tchaikovsky's genius for orchestration on full display.
Beautiful and amazing and gorgeous and wonderful masterpiece love the sleeping beauty movie this waltz makes me wanna sing along and dance with someone special like a beautiful and handsome prince
I like and play classical music on the piano but jesus christ what snobbish comment... Instead of being close minded I enjoy many genres of music including moderns ones like hip hop/rap, pop, indie rock, etc.
Amazing piece. The dynamics, tempo, and balance between sections was amazing, as well as the rhythms and tone. I would have liked to hear the drums more though.
It's not a song, it's a piece. There are a few piano arrangements on IMSLP but I am gonna guess you are referring to the Rachmaninoff arrangement for four hands?
Marvelous! We get to see the entire orchestra playing. We can focus our eyes where we want rather than where the director chooses, which in my experience with so many of these live performances is in the wrong place at the wrong time. So frustrating when a musical part that I really love (usually the dramatic parts and the melody), and the director has the camera on the conductor or on the parts playing harmony. It's all good, but nothing like being able to choose for myself. Thanks for posting this video. The Swan Lake Waltz is one of my favorite pieces!
I am dancing to this song for my sleeping beauty ballet powered by YPAC (your preforming arts center) i am super exited and i cant wait to dance to this wonderful music on stage. It is my first time doing sleeping beauty, and i am super exited. Wish me luck!!
I know you I walked with you Once Upon A Dream. I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam. Yet I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem. But if I knew you I'd know what you'll do. You'll love me at once the way you did Once Upon A Dream.
I played piano version of this in high school. It started my love of waltzes. Oddly enough, my horse is Aurora (as in Borealis, not the Disney princess.)
@@benjaminfischer3229 she definitely brightens up my pasture and people always tell her how beautiful she is. She's pretty sure she rivals the Northern Lights.
Compared to Disney's syrupy version, Orchestra Rus play the Prince's Theme with such delightful bombastic swagger. It reminds me of a Russian Expat I knew a long time ago. :D
I'd love to hear the soft parts of this piece a little slower (takes me back with the sleeping beauty cartoon where they fell in love and were dancing so to me is a slow paste, although this was beautiful but I'd like for them to take their time on that part. Just me though.. to enjoy the melody more.
How could so many beautiful melodies come out of one man?
Right???
@Ludd Zarko No question about that!

I grew up with Tom & Jerry, it was the reason why I started to like Classical Music without even knowing the genre. And this piece started it all.
Pixie_plopz True! From the episode “Mice follies”.
And here i thought i was the only one who knew tom & jerry has classical music

I loved it from Sleeping Beauty as well. Brings back such wonderful memories.
what's with the in sync clapping lol
I think they were sorta complaining on the Orchestra not starting playing? Or perhaps it was an "Encore", one more last piece to close up the show
Lol ikr???
Agustín Pividori in Russia the synchronized clapping was a great encore, and how most audiences would clap synchronized
lol saysay its what they do in russia when they want an encore
Patrick is Love a encore! It is typical

The time before recorded music was magic...
When one's soul is tuned to the creation, the power to interpret and create a language to share to the world, that language the world calls music.
