SLEEPING BEAUTY 'Waltz' Tchaikovsky - Finnish National Opera and Ballet

  • This waltz takes place in Act I, the day of Aurora’s 16th birthday. It became very popular because long excerpts from Tchaikovsky's score - like ‘Once upon a dream…’- were included in the Walt Disney cartoon version produced in 1959.
    Streamed on OperaVision on 6 December 2018 at 19:00 CET and for 2 months : bit.ly/SleepingBeautyEN

    What I find wonderful is how the choreographer heard the place in the music where those 3 lifts just belong! Why hasn't anyone ever done that? It seems so natural; lovely and satisfying to watch.

    Fat shaming is cruel. People make all kinds of excuses about wanting people to live 'healthy' but lets get real. The amount of physical work that goes into being a professional dancer is probably 3X's whatever gym routine any of us have got going on. The body shape she's presenting isn't even fat! Human bodies collect fat and muscle differently and create different shapes. A perfectly fit woman can have some juicy thighs. It's not that hard to wrap our minds around.

    There was a competition (or experiment), between very fit, professional footy or rugby players, who tried to follow ballet dancers exercises & learning their routines for a set time period. They were all knackered after a little while & couldn't even keep up. You have to have not only fitness & mega discipline to dance ballet, but also be mentally fit. Here's a thing, a lot of ballet is about uniformity especially the corps de ballet - think of the dance of the cygnets or waltz of the flowers (if we're sticking with a Tchaikovsky theme) - they all look the same and dance the exact same steps at the same time. Same costumes, same hair/wigs sometimes. If one is different it pulls focus and detracts from the piece as a whole - the bigger dancer is the first thing I saw in this clip. She's wearing a body suit because it's purposeful, you're meant to notice. There's something to be said for the way almost all ballerinas look alike. And that's not even touching on the lifts in a pas de deux or how much pressure must be on the feet if you're a bigger girl and you're dancing en pointe. I'm a pretty chunky monkey myself, but I certainly understand why there's an 'industry standard'.

    • @librodipendente
      @librodipendente 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      So the fact that you are so influenced by fatphobia you couldn't even pay attention to the performance cause you were too busy obsessing about someone else's weight is somehow the girl's fault? And by the way the fairies aren't even supposed to be uniform 🤦‍♀️

    • @winterrrsea1674

      Your comment really pulls focus in a bigoted and fucked up way in the middle of all the really nice and similarly beautiful other comments on this video and I just wanted to take some time to let you know how ugly and gross your comment is because all of the other ones are very kind and uniform in comparison to your hateful and fat phobic bullying that you took the time to do. It's really fucked up that you took the time to write all that out for now god damn reason in such a pretentious way as if to act like your fat phobia is somehow more legitimate because you 'understand dance' and art and therefore your comment has some kind of value to it. It doesn't and your hate speech is still hate speech. Fuck off. People of all sizes can and should dance and it's people like you that have made ballet culture such a toxic environment. You don't understand the art at all. You understand the culture of bulimia and making ballerinas throw up. How proud you must be. We don't want that in dance anymore or anywhere. That's over. It's not cool anymore.

    i'm so sorry but the whole "if you're heavy you can't go en pointe" is complete bs when i was heavy i was en pointe and able to do everything but lifts (but that's just because i was genuinely scared of them lol)

    la presentación es buena pero la bailarina gorda pone una nota extraña, de hecho todos los comentario están dirigidos a ella, haciendo perder el interés por la excelente presentación donde, incluso ella, bailó bien considerando su forma que desentona con la armonía total. No creo que sea un traje de gorda pues se trataría de una parodia en desmedro de las personas realmente gordas las cuales merecen respeto.

      Si estuve investigando y la verdad no me queda claro si es una parodia o no, igual a mi personalmente no me agrada mucho, prefiero el ballet clásico con líneas estéticas y cuerpos acordes a los estándares de la danza.

      De hecho si es un traje, aunque no es muy lindo que le den todo el protagonismo a la bailarina e ignoren el trabajo duro del resto de los bailarines

    Why so much disgrace??? Replace this woman with thick legs. Yes... Obviously these ballet dancers did not study at the Vaganova Academy with Nicolai Tsiskaridze.

    The plus size dancer had a very unattractive appearance and was a terrible distraction. It is also very unhealthy for an overweight dancer to put so much weight on her toes.

    OUCH! All sizes are not suitable for beautiful ballet.
