I've just bought a 23 Africa Twin, I guess i should be looking at getting this done sooner rather than later. Nice dogs, who would complain about having dogs in a video? Someone who likes to complain and is not happy unless they're unhappy I'm tipping! Cheers
All too true. Any machinist can do this for you but if you are close than we are more than happy to sort it for you. I would highly recommend some valving changes whilst you are in there.
Multiple fork tubes and a couple of other brands over 150K on 3 Africa Twins, this mod along with the Matris cartridges, was hands down, the best upgrade to the AT.
Bushings have very similar composiitions from one to another in spite of certain claims a manufacturer can make. The stock bushings are perfectly fine once you let them flex.
I got my AT new in 2016 - currently have 50k miles on her - and have had the shocks rebuilt twice (currently have Nitron cartridges but the sticktion issue is making the bike boarder line dangerous to ride) - I would love to have this done but dont know of any places here in the states that do this kind of repair.
I have pitted chrome on my 2016 AT Ive had them rebuilt before with new seals but one side is leaking again, what can i do? Best to buy new chrome bits from honda?
Having pitted tubes is like having a nail in your tyre. You can replace the tube but if you leave the nail there, it will soon result in another flat. With small nicks in the tubes they can be buffed out on a lathe. You may be able to fill others but if they are beyond repair then the tubes will either have to be rechromed or replaced
I am not sure if this is a Honda issue...but more so a Showa issue? I assume Honda is just purchasing their suspension components and installing them. Curious, does this issue also appear on the electronic suspension bikes?
@@coolhandchunk There have been several warranty issues on these forks as well as complaints / feedback directly to Honda (who own Showa) yet the fault remains. As the manufacturer who has their name on the bike you would think that there would be an onus if not just a basic desire to rectify this problem. This bike was the electronic version
If you have only ridden current era bikes, go find a DRZ400 or a KDX200 and find a trail loaded with small trail trash and prepare to be amazed. You won’t feel it. 95% of the offeoad riders on this planet would be happier with conventional forks.
That's for the actual machining and set up time once the fork is apart. So it will be $120 on top of what other work you are doing...service / revalve etc.
Did the Shock treatment with gold valves on my 2017 AT best thing i did, great advice and service.
Cheers..Thanks for the kind words
Great vid. 9/10 for the suspension info, 10/10 for the rottweiler appearances!
Glad you liked it!

Cheers mate

Thank you Sir!

Cheers Darren. I'll have to join you on one of your tours some day
Personally, i wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't love dogs. 😁
Absolutely
Great info! Do you use the OEM AT bushing in the now tapered slot or a different one? Thanks!

Love watching some great content. You guys surely know what you doing. And yes I have dogs in my workshop as well. Love em.
Thank you for the great feedback. Cheers!

honda is cutting corners...got to be bad. Nice dogs BTW
Cheers mate. I guess Honda responded to public demand......just not in the right way

@@shocktreatment5495 Wonder if the new 2024 models have forks already fixed or only better coated....
@@robsonenduro3316 Still the same unfortunately

Love my 16 so much going full ÖHLINS this winter...
They are a great bike....
I'm interested to know if this issue might present itself on my 2022 CB500x as it has Showa upside down forks as well
It shouldn't be an issue on that bike
@@shocktreatment5495 ok. thanks for your reply
More dogs ❤
For Sure!
Would it be fair to say, this problem does not occur on right side up forks?
Absolutely, It is not a problem on conventional forks
Very informative video thanks. So would this also help minimise the leaking fork seal issue on these bikes?

@@krisdieber9459 It will certainly take pressure off the seals and will make a difference. Just how big that difference will be is anybody's guess.
@6:45 $120 is that correct

Is it hard to take the bottom casting off the chrome inner tube or just screws off no problem?
