Terrific, just remember to rotate your carder slowly sometimes Alpaca can be quite delicate passing through a carder. What proportion are you intending to blend? If it’s for a garment remember Alpaca drapes and can drop in a garment if in high proportions to wool.
@@janet-myspinonthings7016 Janet. Thank you for the quick reply. I was planning to do 25% Finn 75%Alpaca. I’m in the process of sampling now. The Finn percentage does look a bit sparse. I was wondering about that. My drum carder is old and doesn’t have a brush so I was only able to get one pass. It was enough to accomplish layering so that I could pull off strips to hand card. I considered combining, but the cards are portable and allow for more opportunity on the go. I’m one of the crazies that like hand carding, so I’m good with that. Your help is very much appreciated. jacki
I am a new fiber artist and have purchased a very old carder. I have been very nervous about giving it a go but your breakdown for each step has lessened some of my anxiety and I feel a bit more confident!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Just remember to wash your fibre well. Lesson 3 of my beginners spinning video shows my method of washing. You'll learn from everythng you do, even the mistakes (wish I had $1 for all mine lol!) enjoy!
Thank you foe an enjoyable hour with you! Learning how to card for so many different effects! Lovely to have a refresher! See, an old dog can learn some new tricks!
Thank-you so much for generously sharing your extensive knowledge. I have just purchase a drum carder and learnt so much from you. I'm itching to get going now! I am looking forward to watching your other videos now.
Janet, you are the best presenter/teacher I've heard in a long time. Thank you so much for making it so easy for me to stay focused on your presentation. I've learned so much. Ellen
What a lovely thing to say. You’ve made my morning. This craft has been very good to me and these videos are my way of paying it forward. Here’s wishing you many joyful hours 🤗
Thank you so muchI have just got a drum carder and your explanations and demonstrations were really helpful and enjoyable. i will watch your other videos.
Thank you so much for this. I've just recently got into processing raw fleece and bought a drum carder (so I can get to the spinning quicker!) and this was the perfect introduction/ tutorial/ inspiration for me. You're a natural teacher.
Alison you are most kind, I teach the way I learn and I had some painful years at school that helped me realise the way I won't teach lol! Thank you very much for your comment.
It’s my very first time seeing carding being done. You have shown it so comprehensively. I used the presentation as a lecture and took notes. It was wonderful, I learned very much and I know that I have observed a very professional presentation. Thank you for your knowledge, experience and thoroughness of presenting.
Wonderful…..thank you for your amazing content. So glad I found your channel. Was looking for suint washing and am now working my way thru your episodes….such great teaching skills.👏👏👏👏👏
Hello Janet, thank you so much for such an excellent video, you are a wonderful teacher, just about to start using my new drum carder and you have given me lots of confidence to do so 😀 x
Very helpful! When you do this do you do it with a specific project in mind? Do you typically weigh out a certain amount of fibre? ie. a pair of socks usually take 100 grams of sock weight yarn for a pair. Would I then weigh out multiples of 100? Suggestions?
Thanks so much for this helpful video! I’m new to drumcarding and spinning. Do you have a video how you like to spin the batts? Or any recommendations how to best spin batts?
This is such a great video. I love all the different techniques you cover and all your batts are really beautiful. How many tines per inch is your carder? Thank you so much :-)
Türkiye, den izledim çok güzel bir alet çokda ğüzel yün taranıyor bu çekimi yapıp insanları bilğilendirdiğiniz için size teşekkür ederiz. TÜRKİYE den selamlar..
Hmm 🤔, I would get the obvious ones out. However the amount of lumps I had in that fleece said more about the fleece than it did the usual amount I take out when doing this. If you are going to stitch the quilt, I think the lumps might show. You could do a little mini batt/quilt and test?
Hopefully you've gotten an answer for your question somewhere. But just in case you haven't, wool top is a type of preparation of the fiber. It means it's been processed to have the fibers parallel to each other
Ever since I heard how much angora rabbits suffer being plucked forcibly several times , I cringe when I hear the word angora . I’m not saying you can’t use it, but for myself I decided never to buy or use it myself. There are other soft luxury fibers enough for sale that are way more Animal friendly . I love them too much , to ignore this suffering for my hobby or luxury ..
I may have commented before, but I want to make sure to thank you for this in depth tutorial. I am about to blend Alpaca and Finn. This will be guide.

Oh Cherry, have fun!! Thank you.
Fantastic video. Thank you. Is it possible to make a tweed effect on the drum carder?
a drum carder is on my bucket list and seeing all the ways you did blending on it was amazing. So glad I found your channel.
Awesome! Thank you! I love my drum carder you can turn something a little challenging into a very spinnable fibre!
Wonderful teaching video. I learned so much! Thank you 🤗.

Thank you so much for this. My friend let me borrow her drum carder, and this was incredibly helpful!
Glad I could help! Good to have good friends :)
EXCELLENT VIDEO TUTORIAL! Thank You!
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for the wonderfully instructive video! And I've never seen a drum cleaning brush with such long pin-wires, where did you find it?
You may find them at an automotive shop.
So sorry for late reply, you can get these burnishing brushes at Howard Brush, I think they sell online now.
@@janet-myspinonthings7016 Wonderful, thank you!! ❤

I’d love to see the yarns from these batts
Yes I'm keeping the batts as examples but you make a good point. Thank you

Sorry for the late reply. The carder I am working on is 96 tines per inch. It's a good all rounder carding cloth

Hi, Did you ever spin the "extra woolen" batt that you fed perpendicular into the carder?
If I plan to use the batts in a quilt, does it matter as much if there are lumps?
Hmm 🤔, I would get the obvious ones out. However the amount of lumps I had in that fleece said more about the fleece than it did the usual amount I take out when doing this. If you are going to stitch the quilt, I think the lumps might show. You could do a little mini batt/quilt and test?
I am buying a carder thank you so much on lesson i want to blend for landscapes not spinning wish there were lessons on tnis
Beatiful batts
Can you use your short fibers to make felt?
Gracias
What kind of carder is this and what is the tpi please?
This is a Majacraft fusion engine and it comes in a range of tpi 72,96, and 128. The drums are interchangeable.
❤
When you call the wool TOP what do you mean by that? What is TOP?
Hopefully you've gotten an answer for your question somewhere. But just in case you haven't, wool top is a type of preparation of the fiber. It means it's been processed to have the fibers parallel to each other

Short angora fibres are not the best quality! If you trim your angora bunny every 4 months you should get a length of about 2 inches.
Thank you for that information Chantal. I don't keep rabbits but am always interested to learn something about fibres other than wool.
Ever since I heard how much angora rabbits suffer being plucked forcibly several times , I cringe when I hear the word angora . Sound quality is poor!
Thank you for your feedback, we will work on that.
I think the issue is on your end. Sound is good for me.😘
