- Thank you Maureen and Miles for the donations!
Colton and I took Tulip and Petunia for a walk to the new “beaver paddock”. A rainy stormy day but beavers are always busy. Stormy is good!
At the end of the video I share one of my favorite hobbies! Raising cool moth caterpillars.
Anyone wanting to support our efforts can do so at the following links. Thank you!!

The girls are looking great, Miss Tulip and Baby Petunia enjoy a visit to the new area and dear Stormy will hopefully be able to join in soon! ❤❤❤❤ I love caterpillars 🐛 here in the UK 🇬🇧 we have some fascinating ones too and the Mulberry silk moth is huge and not many big trees left now especially where I live, so I don’t mind them at all! ❤❤❤❤
Stormy is looking better & better every day.
Thanks for the education on nature.
The way they need to dam is fascinating. In the house, in pens, the yard - such interesting, amazing creatures.
Just watched an early Stormy video again: the difference is night and day. ❤ Hope the folks who found her know she's OK now and on her way to full health and rehabilitation.
Bless you, Holley.
So sweet seeing Tulip and Petunia touching noses. She truly had a wonderful life, and I'm so glad for her that she got to bond with Tulip, even though it was hard for Tulip to have her suddenly leave. Best of luck for the Petunia Heart Project.
I'm a 51 year old man and I've fallen in love with beavers 😂 in the UK I've never seen one wild , ive barely seen any nature programs showing them , so my knowledge is very limited , but watching these videos , you can really see the intelligence they have to build dens and structures , also their playful spirit , their different personalities , what upsets me is our fellow humans that think its their right to see them as pests , its why over the years humanity really has gone down in my estimation , animals should be preserved , they all offer something to the world, most were here before us and should be here long after us , if we just left them alone.
Thankfully we have people like Holley that will use their humanity to rescue them and make their lives better ❤
I feel the same way about them and owe my interest to finding Holley's channel.

wonderful video on YT about the largest beaver dam in the world: it's in the Ontario province of
Canada and it's even visible from space! (Find the video and photos
via Google search.)
The layers of their lodges are all by brilliant design, too. The upper 'floor' is for ventilation, then they have a foyer and entrances below the water line to ensure safety.
And when the terrible wildfires struck the region, the area around the dam sustained the least damage. (Reckon that seems to prove how much Earth needs castors.)

Well said!
So cool to see the caterpillars!! 🐛 They're gorgeous 💚
Thank you! I love how they follow you around
Those girls don't like getting too far from Mama!
Tulip amd Petunia look so cute running on the grass after Colton. Lovely caterpillars, they're so fascinating, thanks Holley gor the bonus! ❤
Stormy is a gorgeous redhead.
Don't stop beaving, Tulip. Great to see them doing their natural beaver thing.
Amazing caterpillars!
5:23 when Tulip checks out the lumber 😂 as industrious as she is I think those are a bit big to be dam building materials my girl ❤ I love how she had to check the perimeter of the new space 😂 and at 5:50 when Petunia is just zooming after Colton all "Carry me again!" Love seeing them explore safely. Stormy is looking SO good, looks like she's actually starting to enjoy the pets! I also am thankful that her expression seems to be more "why are you waking me up" now instead of the confused fear we saw in the start. I can't wait until she's healthy enough to meet everyone !! Thank you so much for the catapiller show. I love moths and catapillers and it shows what a healthy and diverse eco system you have there. They wouldn't be there without a ton of healthy vegetation and trees to eat, and that's just more good news for the beavers!!
Such a brilliant comment there - a perfect summary. Thanks! 🥰
Thank you Holley ,Colton and the rest of the Muraco Family. Thank you for the caterpillar tutorial a peek at Stormy.
Thank you to see those larvae. I have a pollinator garden, but there are less & less bees & butterflies every year in WNC 😢 Flowers haven’t bloomed for several years now
Fence inspector 🦫🦫🤗🤗 Stormy looking better🦫🙏

Thank you for the caterpillar tour! Really appreciate it!
Tulip is a goof engineer despite her skin problem
Tulip and Petunia, sweet as always. Cool details about the different caterpillars and who they will grow up to be🐛🦋. Great variety.
So good Tulip has u to keep a watch on if infection return
Oh my goodness Tulip is strong pulling branches
Thanks for the great video. Fun watching Petunia chew on her Harry Potter wand.
Tulip is very busy! Little Petunia is following her lead and Holley's. So cute!
Thank you so much for sharing their stories, donated to your sister organization and got a little Petunia shirt. You are so inspiring ❤️
Tulip and Petunia Love the RUBS AND SNUGGLES..!!😍😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰🥰😍🦫🦫
Love the caterpillar tutorial!

Tulip and Petunia and Stormy Love U
❤❤❤😊😊
another great video, you always sweeten my day, thank you!
Petunia is so much faster than Tulip
Could those 2 beg any harder for attention?
3:41 Petunia is succesfully getting Colton to carry her... classic younger sibling behaviour. 😄
Made my day 🦫🦫🦫❤️❤️❤️
I love you guys
Beautiful caterpillars! To georgous moths and butterflies! Have extra tomato plants for the one that eats them! The beavers all are looking great! 😊❤
Darn can still see where the infection was w Tulip
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down... Until this video. Cool bonus with the caterpillars, thanks!
Love the Carpenters reference (thought it was very appropriate)
@timmmahhhh - (1971)
Petunia meditating in the pool and Tulip is impressively busy outside the pool! ❤❤❤
I am in awe of Tulip, beavering away. She really is tireless and courageous!❤❤❤
WHERE WERE ALL THE PUPS TODAY ? INSIDE ? LOL THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US THE CATIPILLARS ... ; SOOOO COOL ...
Those little noises are so cute!
I swear you're a real life Pokemon master.
i love it when they “run” on the ground. Tulip needs a fur donation for a transplant. Or maybe just a weave. I am worried about her exposed back.
Both girls look so adorable... But wet! :)
Toolip & Toonie❤❤❤❤❤
🥰
Tulip trying to get that branch into the pool and then thinking better of it. 😄 Cool-looking moths! Holley, do the beavers ever have to be checked for ticks? They're a problem in Ohio.
I saw that in Utah a bunch of beavers were dying from a tick carried disease 😢 I think these guys get pets often enough and checked out at least once a day though. I wonder if that's how Stormy got a parasite normally found in pigs. So glad she's looking better!
Holly, it's looking good!!! Will you put sunscreen on Tulips back?? I'm not kidding 😊
("some topical medical...")-- "Don't ned no topic' crap, jut wont shot Bourbon..." 🥰
Oh No! Dr. Muraco wearing those sexy boots again... 🤣
Now gonna have nightmares over that caterpillar that grows HUGE!!
(Make sure to avoid Puss caterpillars, toxic!)
These boots are hot! Just make sure to wear them with shorts, like Holley does. Young Colton got it and traded his sneakers for a pair of swamp-proof rubber footwear, completing his look with a bold white headband for his Karate practise with Petunia.😅
@@salixvonufer When you say "hot!", do you mean as in stolen? 😅
@@youtubeobserverzI'm sorry, but I don't get the joke. I'm fluent in English yet it is not my native language. Do you call stolen things "hot"?😕
@@salixvonufer YES! But not to worry, I'm a native English speaker, but still don't understand everything!!! 🤣
@@salixvonufer Can we play Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots were made for walkin'" for Dr. Muraco? 😂
How much do we know about beaver speaking meanings?
Not a whole lot, tail slaps are a warning for aggression and to let other beavers know about predators and the grunts I guess you would call them 😅 it's cuter than a grunt but hard to translate into a word 😅 is basically what kids do to their parents for attention. Like "Hey, look it me!" Other than that there's really not a lot of study on beavers language. She talks about it a bit in the live stream that is still available on this channel. Lots of good q&a on there! 🎉
It appears that beaver vocalizations are still a research desideratum, and I am curious to know why. On a related note, the Badger Project at the University of Oxford in the UK was able to identify approximately 15 different types of vocalizations in European badgers.
@@mom.left.me.at.michaels9951 I have probably missed it, but I don't recall any of Holley's rehabbed beavers executing a tail slap. Have you seen one? It must be a reasonable assumption that it is a sign taught early to kits by their parents, so if Stormy deigns to befriend Tulip and Petunia, she may be able to fill in such gaps, - gnawing a wooden fence post being another!
30ish years ago, when i lived i daytona, i was doing yard work along some shrubs and i felt like my arm was burned. the source was a large green fuzzy caterpillar. i was told it was a lo moth caterpillar but all i know is that punk lit me up! i avoid all caterpillars since.
Do beavers ever get ticks?
They can but ticks and fleas also don't like water, so them having swim time is important for a lot of reasons.
Aren’t beavers predominantly nocturnal?
Yes normally they are more active at night. Stormy being from the wild is always eating and arranging her den hammock at night, we got some night vision camera footage of her in the beginning but she broke the camera a little 😅
Not predominantly, no. If they were, Dr. Muraco wouldn’t disrupt their sleep. These are not the first beavers she’s rehabbed.
Beavers are a crepuscular species rather than a nocturnal one, so their peak in activity will be at dawn and dusk. However, you will also encounter nocturnal activity. As Tulip, Stormy, and Petunia live with humans, they have likely adapted their behavior to human activity, which is mostly diurnal.
Doesn't the noise and interaction betweenTulip and Petunia and as well yourself with them entices Stormy to be interested in what's going on ? She's more or less always hiding. I understand she's trying to adjust but seeing and hearing her next-door neighbors being happy I think should have had a good effect on Stormy but it seems (to me) not much. Thoughts Dr Muraco ?
Well IMO I think Stormy is more napping than hiding now during the day. They are naturally more nocturnal and before Stormy broke it 😅 we got some night vision footage of her being much more active. She's probably wondering why they are so loud during the day lol. I hope she's interested in becoming friends after the quarantine. I personally think she could benefit from a little beaver family. But who knows, a lot of beavers are solitary until they find a mate and from what they could tell Stormy has never had a baby so they think she might still be fairly young and she might not have that social need yet. Time will tell.
Funny thing is that Stormy seems pretty uninterested in Tulip. She perked up when she heard Petunias baby cries. Tulip is very interested in Stormy. I think they will all be good with each other.
Would a combination of caster oil and coconut oil help her skin? Might be a replant to water? Or just mineral oil
Or a bath with head and shoulders, my vet recommended that for my dog
Great suggestions. Coconut oil is so soothing, speaking from experience ☺️🥥
We occasionally use hydrogel these days if needed.
Omg caterpillars freak me out 😭
With Tulip’s back that way can she ever be released?
Watch her other videos. They are keeping an eye on it. As of now, yes, but when she’s old enough they’ll figure out then if it’s possible. But that is the goal. Can’t really make a lot of predictions when this is uncharted territory.
It is a concern. She is more vulnerable to problems. We still have some time and she isn’t going anywhere until she is ready
Does Tulip have ringworm?
Last year when she contracted the skin infection we ran all the tests for ringworm, yeast, fungus, mange, parasites, allergies - everything. The only thing that was cultured positively was a particularly nasty flesh eating bacteria that can be found in soil. I watch it closely for any changes. She is susceptible to other issues on the healed wound that we have to monitor.
@hmuraco how did you culture? Toothbrush culture we used to do in cats, brush from back of body towards the front, put in culture medium 2 weeks. Kitten lady on YT uses a black light. What about a biopsy, would that be something to try. How is ringworm treated in beavers?
Love your care for these animals!! MAGA 2024!!!
