I own both at the moment and I can confidently say that my pixel 5 in daily use feels faster and has far less hiccups / compatibility issues with other devices. My pixel 4 XL is just as new, yes.

In my humble opinion the 4xl is still the better phone? Stereo speakers 🔊are definitely better, no contest. Plus I use the squeeze feature, very often. Face unlock is just as good as 🍎's? Google needs two things, upgrade it's 📷's & return to the flagship market. Produce the 6xl to include the 888processer? I would not mind paying up for it!
i had a 3 xl and i loved it..... so sad that there is no 5xl this year it's making me have to choose between the 4xl and 5 and i think i'll go the 4xl . what can i say i like those larger sizes

In a real life test of having both phones, I can say that the 5 is much smoother and faster than the 4Xl, which wasn't slow by any means but the difference is noticable.
4xl is faster and if it had the 8gb of ram it would be a solidly better device. 8gb of ram and bigger battery are the pixel 5's only real pros to me.. Now we need a pixel 5xL for the enthusiast and power users
I think they're fine not doing an XL this time. It goes along with trying to keep cost down. Maybe they can take the little bit extra in r&d they didn't spend and put it into a better feature in the next pixel. I don't find overall the pixel is any slower in daily usage. To where I'm just like man this thing is slow I'm glad google did whatever magic they did to make these run so well I was skeptical on how it would work because the velvet is a Turd in comparison speed wise. It feels too slow.
I'm discarding my S20 ultra and Note 20 ultra for the Pixel 5. Heavy and big phones aren't always convenient. I'm starting to like my little Pixel even though I miss my 512Gb storage plus SD memory card slot. Now, it's all cloud based, getting rid of stuff I don't really need. 🤔
I have finally figured out the bigger screen doesn't really amount to much. It is only marginally better for playing games and watching videos and even that only a bit. Beyond that...meh. Just more bulk. Also, notice that with the 4XL black bar at the top it is not as much bigger as you think vs the Pixel 5 which does not have that. In the end you are losing a fraction of an inch.
@@jeffbergstrom My 3 XL just came back from warranty and it's a huge difference. On paper 6.3" is not much compared to 6", but in reality it is. Pixel 5 is very narrow and tall which makes the content small. Everything on the XL is much bigger: same amount of content with bigger text while reading articles without increasing the font, bigger videos and most important for me is the size of the keyboard with more spacing between the keys. Size does matter and Pixel 5 is going back.
I would be annoyed that Google put a midrange processer in the pixel 5 but the have optimized it so good that it is a simmilar proformance and for way cheaper
Atleast wait for pixel 6 I would say... I switched from pixel 2XL to Pixel 5... Battery life is extremely good... But gaming is not dat good on this phone... nd in screen speaker is not up to the mark... I hope they improve these things in pixel 6XL..
I have the 4 and it's amazing and I personally don't think they should make a 5xl cause I think the 5.7 inch phone are perfect at least for me and actually the 5 has a 6 inch screen but the phone is smaller and thinner then the 4 so it's like the perfect size phone
I'm not a super heavy power user so having flagship specs as always been more of a nice to have than an absolute necessity... But the one trade off I can't really make is the difference between the displays. The 4XL is more vibrant and colour accurate to my eye, That being said I also do have some annoyance with Google for making the mainline phone of the pixel series so underwhelming. It's not that much better than the 4A 5G. More important than making the next phone in a series a step up from the previous phone I think it's more important to make sure that it's at least considerably better than the step down of the same generation. I'm also still not sold on 5G being worth all the compromises, given the state of 5G networks in North America.

That doesn't look like a very solid testing framework. No controlled way of making sure apps are launching at the same time and no benchmark apps. It's all just how fast it "feels" with no data points.

When a manufacturer releases a new phone, you kinda expect it to be faster than the previous one but not with Google's phone, at least for 2020. Imagine if Apple put a A11 chip instead of A14 in the new iPhone 12, removed FaceID and replaced it with TouchID, increased the RAM and sell it for $100 cheaper than its current price, people would lose their mind and you'll see plenty of news and articles critizing Apple. People have already mentioned that the Pixel 5 takes considerably longer time to process photos, as amazing as Google is at optimizing their software, the Pixel 5 with its midrange processor will fall behind last year's Pixel 4 in tasks where speed matters, such as HDR processing, video rendering/editing, 3D gaming and whatnot.
