- In Ukraine there has been intense fighting around the city of Severodonetsk, as Russia stepped up its offensive in the Donbas region.
Meanwhile in Kyiv President Zelenskyy warned that peace would only come through negotiations, but the prospect of any agreement remained distant.

Putin doesn't want diplomacy. This is why Zelensky wants more weapons. As the Russians will just attack over and over again.
When he says diplomacy will end the war he’s stating the obvious really. Ukraine can’t push into Russia and overthrow the government, so they can either hold them off or push them back so far before both side will want to end it. Hopefully when Russia looses enough men to pull back to previous lines or preferably out of Ukraine all together.

He's not just a comedian, he is a writer and producer. Anyone that knows anything about comedy writing will tell you that you need a sharp mind, be observationally aware and have a broad understanding of many topics.

What kind of diplomacy and logic is the minds of the leaders of the countries that want to join NATO at the potential cost of wars? Isn't Ukraine a prime example?

If Ukraine had tried to carry out the Minsk Agreement and remained neutral then there would not have been a war.
Plus, if he'd followed the Minsk Agreement then the Donbass would remain part of Ukraine, though with some additional autonomy from Kiev.
Mr, Zelensky has had more than enough time to sort this by diplomatic terms, unfortunatley he decided to do it by military means, hence the current situation.

@Dan Beech Actually I think their main demands were Crimea to be recognized as Russia, Donbass to be given an independence referendum and Ukraine neutrality guarantee (ie not to join NATO). The first one changes nothing, the second one is fair enough, the UN protects the right to self-determination of nations, and the third one seems just sensible for everybody. Ukraine was ready to strike a deal until warmongers in the West tole them to concede nothing to keep the war going.

They have been very careful not to use heavy forces - normally the tactics is to bomb your opponents for weeks, then move in with your infantry to minimise losses. Military victories give you bargaining power. Bargaining power can bring an end to hostilities. Even if Ukraine gets back its territory, it will want to ensure that the russians stop attacking. That's what diplomacy can achieve, but Russia won't accept and end to this unless it is weakened first.
