very helpful video. I hope you could do a general outline on how to go about compatibility testing. Also what comes after Ab identification, how useful it is in selecting a blood unit for a potential transfusion for a patient. thank you

Question: if the patient has a negative Ab screen do you only look at the blood group i.e. if they are A+ then you would transfuse them with A+. But the donor might have Ag the patient doesn't have so wouldn't they make Ab against them? should you select a donor that is of the same blood group and same Ag expression?
What I am trying to say is: why do we only consider ABO compatibility when the Ab screen is negative when the Ag expression could be different between the donor and recipient

How do you know if the antibodies are homozygous or heterozygous when performing a antibody ID?

Nice one , it was flowing till when you start heterozygous nd homozygous explanation. I became lost. Please any testbook to read this from? Thanks

Hi! Great video! Forgive me, if this sounds like a dumb question. I've seen other videos with the CLS using an automatic test tube rocker. Could each bottle of the reagent cells be placed on that, gently mixing, while you are preparing the gel cards, as long as you keep them in order? Or would that be too hard, potentially causing cell damage? Thanks.

i think it is ok, that only thing thats going against it is cost.

That is a very good question. Our Sysmex rep has told us that the rockers are not recommended for Hematology specimens. We have since stopped using them for any specimens. I have our students do it by hand. It is ultimately up to your facility.

How do you do phenotyping once you identify the antibodies? And if there’s an ordered blood how to you phenotype the donors units?

Great question! You would use anti-sera reagents against the donor unit cells.

So just in theory, would we donate this (fake) patient with A+ Anti C blood, if i am right?
Other possible option: O+ Anti C
Just doing an antibody identification panel for my IBMS portfolio. Please help me.
    Thank you ❤

Always select group specific blood for the patient putting into consideration any identified patient alloantibody. For instance, if the patient is group A+ and we have anti-C, we transfuse A+ ant-C negative red cells. Alternatively, A- anti-C negative red cells or O+ anti-C negative red cells. Good luck in your IBMS program

I followed you clearly until you start using the antigram to identify the antibody. That aspect is still not clear pls. Thanks a lot.

There are other antibody identification panel videos I have done in the past but they were for tube testing. Check those out and let me know if you still have questions. I may be working on more videos this summer.
