Halford sounds better than he did in the past. He sounds too good to be true on this record. And well, at his life performances he now nails painkiller, something he wasn't able to sing in the nineties, when he was younger and the song was new. But hey, he really is singing those things. Promised.

@@dnatech4477Rob is subjective, as is everything, but not a single of their contemporaries has produced an album worth competing with their best in 30 years. The fact that Judas Priest managed to spit out a competitor as their ‘best album’ after 50 years in metal is staggering. And an achievement no other band I’m aware of has ever accomplished.
I remember my grade 8 science teacher, Mr. Grossier, said, "Judas Priest, Van Halen - where are those bands going to be in thirty years?" He said that the year Judas Priest released Screaming for Vengeance in 1982.
Rob still sounds phenomenal, and it makes me so happy that he's able to keep doing what he loves. That track slaps so hard, can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
You could slot this song onto Painkiller and it'd fit right in. It's incredible and I'm really looking forward to the album dropping and seeing Judas Priest (with Saxon and Uriah Heap) next April. Long live the Metal God \m/
Bloody amazing that Rob Halford (and the rest of Priest) can still perform like that. May I politely suggest that once all your touring duties are over maybe you could arrange a long chat via podcast with Rob? Would love to hear how he has looked after himself so that he can still rip a vocal like that! Also, with everything he has seen (and dealt with) over the decades he would have some great stories to tell and would love to hear his views on the current crop of metal out there. Happy touring Justin
One thing is certain. Halford quit smoking like 7 or 6 yrs ago and it shows in a very pleasant way tbh. I am absolutely happy with their new material but lil bit disappointed with album cover art. Dear Gowd band like Judas fukkin Priest deserves much better than that. I don't blame Mr. Wilkinson at all. He has been give a task and he fulfilled their desires, but....still pretty pissed off over it. Guys had like 1 million possibilities to choose better album name and cover art but no no no
As soon as I heard it a week ago..robs voice stood out as staggeringly good. Blew me away. Not only powerful but laced with intent and purpose. Great lyrics too.
The thing that is on my (and not only on my) mind is Judas Priest have been known for their lil bit childish and simple lyrics since the early 80's, but now....Nostradamus, Firepower and Invincible Shield are from lyrical point of view probably one of their best ever, which is nothing short of amazing. Finally I can listen to these lyrics and like getting some deeper message exactly like in the case of Spectre or Rising from Ruins. Excellent work by guys!
Rob and King Diamond are two of the singers who have only gotten better with time. They're like fine wine. Amazing. I must have this album. Love me some Priest, and they still kill it.
Ex Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing`s newest record sounds great too! Now, we have two of these bands playing good old school metal. Rob still has it for sure, can't wait to hear the rest of the record!
I know Ozzy, Dio, Lemmy, Bruce Dickinson, and Halford are all metal gods. But for my money, Judas Priest were the first of those bands that really chose to be "metal" with the speed, aggressiveness, and metallic sound. The fact that Rob Halford is still melting our faces decades on is hugely inspirational. What a legend.

I listened to some Rob Halford interviews last week and you wanna talk about someone that seems like they're winning... Fantastic. Happy, humble, sharp... Just great.
I first heard Judas Priest in 1980 when I was just 23, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Honestly, I think Robs voice is every bit as good as it was back then! He obviously takes care of his instrument. Can’t wait to buy this new album! 🤘🏻🎶
Halford quit smoking like 7 yrs ago and it shows! At Masters of Rock sang unbelievably well! Especially Diamonds and Rust was a feast for the ears and Painkiller was not bad too!
My first record was a copy of Sad Wings of Destiny that my grandfather gave me. He had it in his record collection next to some crazy Trio Los Panchos and Willie Nelson stuff. You, Sir, have an excellent dry delivery of humor- I absolutely applaud and approve! Very relaxing to watch your channel, and i appreciate the diversity in subjects you approach as well! Keep up the great work, your continued good health and success! CHEERS!!
I remember getting Painkiller in my initial Columbia House shipment just on a whim with 11 other classics, and it blew me away... between Scott Travis' pummeling intro, the dual-guitar shred and crunch, and Halford's unstoppable searing vocal... and all that is right here AGAIN, what.. 30 years later(?!?). Amazing track, legendary band. Particularly dig Travis' contribution here.
Priest is just on a different level than most bands. While most iconic bands from the 70’s/80’s are just relying on their old music or making new music that is terrible, Priest still delivers. Redeemer of souls and especially Firepower are insanely great. Father Time doesn’t tell Judas Priest when to quit. They are Metal Gods always! Richie is a big reason as well as Andy Sneap. Richie’s guitar magic stands out again! Prayers for Glenn in his battle against a horrible disease. We love ya Glenn!
Different level indeed. I can't think of any other band that was formed in the late 60's, released several albums in the 70's and sounds like THIS today. When Firepower came out I thought "oh well, they went all in for this album and it may be the last album", but then this came... jesus, these guys forgot to be old 😄
Awesome!!! Just sprayed my beer over my keyboard after hearing your medical knowledge of panic attacks. PMSL. Certainly brightened up my day. You Sir are a genius, keep making the world smile ;)
Love this! It could be up with British Steel & Painkiller for my fav Priest albums. Cant believe they all sound so fresh. Great work Mr Hawkins. I will mirror someone else's request about getting Rob Halford on as a guest. Proper Ledge!
OK he does sound different, but at this age that's nothing short of amazing. Definitely buying this record....but sad over album cover art. Horrible one!
Great video, Justin! I was able to see Judas Priest a year or so ago in Phoenix. I was pleasantly surprised at how great Rob sounded. Voice was strong and still hit a lot of highs. Andy Sneap and Richie Faulkner were on guitars all night. But then got a nice surprise when Glenn Tipton came out for a 3 -song encore. The added punch of Glenn’s playing was astonishing-it brought out a classic punch of Priest power. Andy had sounded great, but Glenn made it sound “correct” to my ears.
It's truly astounding how incredible Halford can still do it. He sounds as good as Anything from Screaming for Vengeance to Angel of Retribution. The man is incredible!
Yep! 🙂 That does indeed sound like Judas Priest, and Rob Halford's place on my personal Top 5 list of male singers I've enjoyed the most in my lifetime is in no way threatened 😍 I'm so relieved! 🙂 Though time gets to us all, sooner or later, and that is something I fully accept and am understanding of, it's still a sad moment when you realize your old heroes just don't have it anymore, but... Rob still has it 🫀
Saw them at Power Trip in CA a few weeks ago. Rob was still hitting those high notes at will. I last saw them on the Operation Rock n Roll tour in the early 90s and he was just as vocally powerful a few weeks ago!
Great episode, thanks! I’ve been a fan since the late 70s and, for me, Firepower was one of their best ever - classic British metal brought up to date. I absolutely love Richie’s guitar playing and Rob’s voice was stunning. This new one sounds like it will be just as strong. Cheers mate!
For me, Firepower is that good that if the new one is half as good as Firepower, it will be a bloody good album. Painkiller Defenders Firepower My personal top 3 JP records, so if Invincible Shield is AS GOOD as Firepower, it will make my top 5 JP easily.
Oh my glob! Every bit of this song goes so hard! His voice is just ammmaaazzing! It’s like such a classic Judas Priest song you’d never know he’s in his 70s. And holy crap! Those drums!
Amazing! How lucky are we that these amazing bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are still out here kicking ass!!!! That riff reminds me a little of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush. Awesome song, Rob sounds fantastic!!!
Run, don’t walk, to see bands like these who’ve shaped music history AND still perform like their decades-earlier-selves. Priest, Duran, Pumpkins, Maiden, AC/DC etc. etc.
You can always drop some ‘shorts’ (compilations of clips formatting? Etc) while on the road if you get anxious or pressure to post, Justin. Either way your fans understand and appreciate you. Be well and enjoy 🌱🌞

Can't wait to hear the rest of the upcoming album ! And the 2024 tour with SAXON and URIAH HEEP promises to be a highlight of next year !😎🎸🎤🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Absolutely amazing how good Rob's vox are. The lyrics are such a good snapshot of today's society. Awesome to see and hear older guys show how it's done. Music is the elixir of life my friends, use it daily!!!!
Saw them in Vegas a year and a half ago. Rob and everyone sounded great as always. One of the best vocalists of the metal world who has retained his ability. Simply iconic!!!!
I saw Priest in 86 on the Fuel for Life tour supporting Turbo. Many thought at that time they'd 'sold out' and were on the outs. AND THAT WAS NEARLY 40 YEARS AGO!!!!
Rob is a master of enunciation! Think about it. For him,...the language itself is part of his instrument. Not just the voice or the notes. He impacts words in a way that no one does else does quite the same. As if each phonetic and word was extremely important for you to hear - or to hit you over the head with! It makes him stand out for me. And then the chugging. HAHAHA. Nobody chugged for me in the eighties like the priest. Chugging would be burned into my guitars forever. Part of their language. It's as if the instrument had been designed specially for chugging after the priest came along. Yup. Another good one Justin. Cheers. 👍
So true about Rob's enunciation and how he phrases the words! This comment was hugely important as to why Halford is so unique as a metal vocalist, great insight and description of Rob's delivery and phrasing. Loved reading this - excellent comment! Peace!
Definitely. His enunciation and phrasing; ability to impart emotion and atmosphere, is one of the best. No doubt. I think as well as his range and power, that ability is what makes him stand out
I adore Judas Priest and only found them later in my life. Rob is a hero of mine, as a Gay man seeing someone out in a metal world is super encouraging :sign_of_the_horns:

I think it's interesting how some of the 90s photos of Rob Halford with the big black frames, pale shorn head, motorcycle, and intense leather stud jackey had him looking kind of like Ghost Rider.
Tbh you are not the only one who has never been JP fan and somehow I get it. Not everybody is keen on listening to homoerotic songs about raping at gun point or breaking somebodys jaw with a huge dick. All jokes aside Judas Priest is a very specific kind of monster and definitely not for everybody. My father as a Black Sabbath and Deep Purple fan does not like JP at all (he respects Halford, Glenn and KK tho)

Fantastic! Why do I not have this yet? Halfords voice is an inspiration. Possibly the best voice on earth.
I'm not even a Judas Priest fan, but this is incredible. He doesn't sound any different than recordings from decades ago.
OK he does sound different, but at this age that's nothing short of amazing. Definitely buying this record....but sad over album cover art. Horrible one!
Rob Halford is such a monument for heavy metal and this is a really good song, can't wait to get the album.
Saw them before the Holidays last year they were good as ever. Amazing show.
I work as a chef (30+years) dress like an eighties casual listen to mostly old punk/goth on vinyl and I feckin love Judas Priest
Rob is the man! Been listening to the priest since the 80's.
It's truly astounding how incredible Halford can still do it. He sounds as good as Anything from Screaming for Vengeance to Angel of Retribution. The man is incredible!
Yep! 🙂 That does indeed sound like Judas Priest, and Rob Halford's place on my personal Top 5 list of male singers I've enjoyed the most in my lifetime is in no way threatened 😍
I'm so relieved! 🙂
Though time gets to us all, sooner or later, and that is something I fully accept and am understanding of, it's still a sad moment when you realize your old heroes just don't have it anymore, but... Rob still has it 🫀
Saw them at Power Trip in CA a few weeks ago. Rob was still hitting those high notes at will. I last saw them on the Operation Rock n Roll tour in the early 90s and he was just as vocally powerful a few weeks ago!
Phenomenal track from an amazing band. I wish modern metal bands had this level of creativity and musicianship.
Painkiller
Defenders
Firepower
My personal top 3 JP records, so if Invincible Shield is AS GOOD as Firepower, it will make my top 5 JP easily.
@@CoffeeMatt10 Excuse me Mr. but how old are you? Just asking because putting Firepower that high. My Gowd thats nothing short of amazing!
Metal God Rob Halford!!!! Rob & DIO are 1a & 1b all time greats....thanks Justin...excellent review. Love how fast you pick up guitar parts.
I was just about to comment that riff sounds like Tom sawyer by rush 😂😂
@@ccrDan I guess it has been intended to be kinda hommage but gone too far
It does go into a little Tom Sawyer but that's ace, as my two favourite bands are Rush and Judas Priest.
Metal God's forever 🤘 i first saw Priest in 78-79 and more times than I can remember since.
Just saw Priest last year and he was amazing, the whole show was amazing. blew my mind really.
I've been a PRIEST fan for as long as I can remember and absolutely worship Rob, as a shouter, as well as a human being. He is just totally amazing ! More power to him and to JUDAS PRIEST !
Absolute gods of rock & still absolutely killing it. Judas Priest are a hard act to follow.
This new Priest song is amazing on every level, so nice to hear your breakdown Justin! I have Priest tickets for London this coming March, can't wait!
You're the man, Justin, and it's so exciting to have more Priest! Please god let them tour in my country soon!
Halford is ageless, truly in a league of his own
Absolutely outstanding, and Trial by Fire is even better 🤘🤘🤘
Saw them in Vegas a year and a half ago. Rob and everyone sounded great as always. One of the best vocalists of the metal world who has retained his ability. Simply iconic!!!!
Love you Justin. You're the best 😎👌
Totally understandable Justin. See you on the road! 😄
I saw Priest in 86 on the Fuel for Life tour supporting Turbo. Many thought at that time they'd 'sold out' and were on the outs. AND THAT WAS NEARLY 40 YEARS AGO!!!!
Priest always deliver even after all the years!
Rob Halford is the personification of metal, what a belting tune.
So cool! Love the lyrics.
No doubt. I think as well as his range and power, that ability is what makes him stand out
Swallowing the dictionary! What a great line!! Your awesome Justin!!
I adore Judas Priest and only found them later in my life. Rob is a hero of mine, as a Gay man seeing someone out in a metal world is super encouraging :sign_of_the_horns:
\m/
You are not alone bro. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Ellie Goulding. All gay people are welcome here!
The best live concert I've ever seen in my life. Screaming for vengeance tour. Just outstanding all around.
I felt my eyes widen and my jaw drop at that scream. Like being a teenager again and hearing Screaming for Vengeance for the first time. Awesome!
Just saw them on their latest tour, first time since the 80's, and he can still bring it.
05:14 Really cool riff!!! (Hides the guitar inmediately behind the mic...)😆
05:59 😂
07:08 🤣🤣🤣
08:24 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
10:16 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fucking awesome song and review!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you Justin!!! We'll wait patiently for the full JHRA:TJOV, POTMT team!❤
JHRA:TJOV, POTMT.... Gesundheit! Prosit and, bless you! 😀
@@MariaFrancesca 😂😂😂 Danke schön!😉😊
I think it's interesting how some of the 90s photos of Rob Halford with the big black frames, pale shorn head, motorcycle, and intense leather stud jackey had him looking kind of like Ghost Rider.
Bloody PROPER metal! Xx thank you Justin xx
You're looking very dapper in that black jacket, Justin! Is that a new wedding ring on your left hand?
Absolutely amazing. That bridge riff gives off big "Tom Sawyer" vibes and I'm here for it.
It’s like a perfect harmony line to the Tom Sawyer riff. I sat up quick when I heard it!
Glad you're doing one on this tune. It rips my head off...
Can’t argue the fact the Rob still sounds amazing and I’m really looking forward to hearing the new album. Take my money !!
That was awesome! Thanks!
About to enjoy two live Darkness gigs, Berlin and Manchester..V.I.P and rides again live next year…V.I.P…see you on the ice…❤👍
Great for ya! That has to be a kickass thing to look forward to.
This made me ridiculously happy.
I've never been a massive Priest fan but this song is GREAT - I shall re-listen to their back catalogue soon and try to mend my ways!
