Same.....same exact thing for me. This was someone I had been to. I was on fire. I ended up getting a skin infection and didn't know it until it didn't heal. She lost a client over this. When you tell them IT BURNS, they need to get it off immediately.
Same thing happened to me about two weeks ago. I used the Avene Tolerance cleanser and balm. It lasted about 5 days and I was miserable. Thanks for the info!
What an excellent and information video. I'm so sorry this happened to you! The person should have known that if a product burns then you get it off the client's face immediately. I love all of the products mentioned. The wind and cold can compromise my skin so I keep product around for that reason.
Thanks for the recommendations. I've had similar situations with 3 estheticians before. They never stopped or apologized. I never went back to any of them. I would recommend talking to the owner so they can retrain the employee though. They're lucky you are classy and didn't call them out on your channel. Different subject but can you recommend a makeup brush cleanser?
Thanks Kara! They were definitely aware of the situation when I left. Sorry this happened to you as well. I use Castille soap to wash my brushes. Both the liquid and the bar work great!
I was talked into getting the Vampire Facial (cause I only went in to get Botox ), the process left track marks on my face, because the micro needling was either done too aggressively or my skin is too sensitive. Mandy, I think it’d be wonderful if you could do a video devoted to micro needling gone wrong at the hands of professionals that we are supposed to trust. The only other place I can read about how this has been done to others is on Reddit. Moreover, there are studies showing now that traumatizing the skin (to get it to heal itself by building collagen) is now being shown to lead to long term damage and depleted skin years after the micro needling is done. I’d love to hear your take on this, and any advice is much appreciated .
What a great topic. I don't think i have ever heard anyone talk about the skin barrier before. Now I have to save up for those current body eye glasses. It had to be so scary for you. Skin like yours is hard to come by!
I wonder how much experience that esthetician had? Your face looked redder than my face after I had Fraxel laser 😮 I only go to 2 places for facials and both places are owned by a plastic surgeon and dermatologist. I won’t go anywhere else. Thank you for sharing with us. So sorry you had to go through that! ❤
She seemed pretty young, and I know you learn by things like this,...I just wish my face wasn't the educational piece. LOL I won't go anywhere from my aesti for sure....I trust her 1000% with my skin. Gift certificates will be used for massages only. ha!
Hello Mandy 😊Oh that looked really painful and glad your skin is good again. Im no good with Vitamin C and tried it twice had a rash for a good few weeks after. Went to my doctor and she gave me a cream to clear it up thank goodness 😊
Omgosh I can't imagine how bad this must have hurt after seeing the picture! Good info for what to do afterward. I have recently started using Argan Oil at night due to dryness and am soooooo happy with how my skin feels and looks the next morning.
Omgsh, I’m so sorry you had such a terrible experience 🥺 I’m glad your skin is back to normal! I had a weird reaction to my 1st facial years ago and it gave me almost contact dermatitis where it looked like acne for about a month straight 🤦🏼♀️
Hi Mandy what an awful experience, I'm glad your skin healed. I recently bought a led mask but mine did not come w goggles..I used it once but my eyes it really bothered...blurred vision🤷♀️. So am scared to use again...but I'm so happy it worked for you!! Hugs, Mary
I have a Celluma and it didn’t come with goggles. To be on the safe side I got a pair from Amazon. They’re very inexpensive. I did use mine for a couple weeks without the goggles with no issues, but if you were bothered it’s a good idea to wear them.
Thank you so much for the tip. I'll definitely look into that!! I've never heard of anyone having issues with their eyes but mine I guess are super sensitive..thank you❤️
Thank you Mary! I think you can buy the goggles separate. They look just like the ones the tanning beds give you (trust me, I haven't been to one of those in 25 years LOL), but if you search that, they will likely come up for you.
Oh goodness, so sorry you had to go through this!! Love the info. Age and/or meds. are changing my skin sooooo much. I have tried new products with really bad results. Food for thought for me going forward. Have a great day!
I think she used a Babor product which when I looked up does include lactic acid. But my skin loves lactic acid, so I have no clue what it was, but I sure wish I knew so I never use it again. LOL
What a nightmare! My barrier problem was the result of l-ascorbic acid, an increase in my tretinoin prescription, cold winter weather and central heating. It took a couple of months to repair my barrier. Paula's Choice Intensive Repair Cream repaired it when other popular products weren't effective..
I went through a bout the last week, even though my tret didn’t increase. I did add a Timeless serum and think that was the culprit. It’s the 2nd time with that line. I think anything with Matrixyl in it triggers my skin.
Very helpful. I just had this happen to me on my neck from an enzyme application for a facial I had at the Derm’s office. My first time using her, and I just let her do her thing. I had a Jesner peel on my face and that took me by surprise with lifting layers of skin at the time. I relied on my Skinceuticals triple lipid restore for that among other things. Afterwards my neck would just not stop itching after the redness calmed down! Thanks
Oh no Mandy that's awful! I'm so glad your healed and appreciate all the things you shared. I've been wanting to try Avene for years. The mask must have did wonders as well.
Hi, sorry about your bad experience! You work so hard to beautify and maintain your lovely skin - a shame that so much damage can be done so quickly. I just wanted to say that I am in LOVE with the Rephr cleanser. I never want to be without this. I even use it to remove eye makeup in the shower with absolutely no stinging or burning. Have you tried Rephr replenishing essence? This, too, is amazing. It reminds me of the Suhada (which I also have) but the Rephr is a bit thicker and therefore does not require the layering. I think you would love it if you have not already tried it. Hope all is well and that your skin is back to normal. xoxo
Oh I am so happy that you love the Rephr cleanser too! I have tried the essence and it's great! It has Niacinamide so I have to be careful that I don't use it with too many other products that do too since I can be sensitive to too much of that ingredient, but it's great!
@@MandyDavisMUA Thanks for taking the time to reply! I just started using tretinoin last July (with agency) and the Rephr cleanser and essence has been the perfect compliment. I have had no peeling or dryness, but admittedly, I am starting slowly and barely creeping up in strength. Thanks for the head’s up about niacinamide. I knew it was in the essence but didn’t think about using it or not with other products. Take care - I love your videos so much. I hope all is well in TN. I great up in Knoxville and went to UT. I am no longer there but enjoy your mentions about your home. Love Zeus, too! :) xoxo
Just ordered the toner essence and the beta glucan serum. I have a tube of the avene in my stash! I have had the experience of having a reaction that causes my skin to go haywire and it’s the worst. And I have also found that after the initial inflammation seems to subside, the texture is rough like sandpaper for a few days. Always good to have a stash of soothing products!
Another good product to use that also helps support your skin’s barrier is a mist called Good Cera (by Holika Holika) I won’t do without. I use it between serums to increase moisture (especially with using hyaluronic acid) and plump the skin before locking everything in with a moisturizer. It’s a very fine mist with a light clean/fresh scent.
Eek. How terrible. My skin barrier was damaged too but I did it to myself. I had to eliminate everything and add my products back slowly. Turns out my skin is sensitive to urea and niacinamide. Almost everything now contains niacinamide and my skin can only tolerate a certain amount. I use my Agency formula which contains 4% niacinamide and had to find a daytime and nighttime moisturizer without any niacinamide. Thankful for Vanicream. Works great, has beneficial ingredients and has restored my moisture barrier. I also had to completely cut out urea. Skincare can be a tricky thing. 😅
I agree about niacinamide. I have to be careful about that too, and it seems to be in so many products nowadays. It's the new hyaluronic acid as the hype ingredient.
So sorry to hear about the horrendous experience. Thank you for sharing the products you used for recovery and why. If there is any possible upside to this disaster, once your skin healed was it in better condition than prior?
Thanks Carol! I don't think it was any better when it healed. It was supposed to be just a relaxing facial, so I wasn't expecting a big difference, but I am just glad now that it didn't have any lasting issues. ❤️
I am watching this from my bathroom sink and I have most of these products at arm’s reach. My problem is always staying away from actives for the proper time. I have a problem area on my forehead and nose that’s been persistent for years and I’ve been told to do the barrier repair routine but no actives for 3 months. I never make it that long. My skin just gets too congested with all the extra moisture, I need acids.
Why would she not have stopped when you said it was burning?! Are you sure you didn’t walk in to a torture chamber by accident? Just kidding! I’m so glad you’re skin is better and got better so fast! Apparently you know way more than she does!
I need to buy that light therapy! My daughter burned her stomach grabbing a hot Cup O’ Noodles off the counter. A friend brought over a red light therapy laser pen. It went from bright red to a light pink in 1 day. I used it the next few days & was blown away. You can’t even tell she was ever burned. Totally believe in red light therapy for healing!
Girl! What a nightmare! I'm so sorry that happened! I can't even imagine.... any suggestions for good face masks (that are in stock) I have very dry flaky skin and I'm hoping to find a moisturizing face mask to use a few times a week. I see them on Amazon but so inexpensive I wonder if they are any good. Thank you for the recommend and I just love that Neogenesis. Need to put in an order for more just so expensive! I think it's worth it though
The Clarity masks are amazing and a great price point! They have some hydrating ones, but I haven't used one from the line I haven't liked. Harben House has the Clarity line.
I used to love Cicalfate but they reformulated it recently and totally ruined it 😔 it separates in the tube now and is just weird.. it's not like the beautiful creamy ointment it used to be.. sigh..
I recently watched some videos on Ellacor. Wow, the scarring and hyperpigmentation looked just not good. I have never had procedures and not sure I ever will.
I’m so sorry that happened to you Mandy. She should have immediately took that mask off when you said it hurt. Thanks for sharing the products that helped you get through this. Xoxo 😘

Hi Mandy. With the eye LED mask, you said you put a green tea serum in - when using. Is there a specific green tea serum you use, are they all the same and where did you buy yours?
