Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle did not rape Virginia Rappe. He was charged in very flimsy evidence and went through two mistrials until he was found not guilty in a third trial. In the jury's verdict in the third trial the jurors went so far as to include in their findings that: "Acquittal is not enough for Roscoe Arbuckle. We feel that a great injustice has been done him. We feel also that it was only our plain duty to give him this exoneration, under the evidence, for there was not the slightest proof adduced to connect him in any way with the commission of a crime. He was manly throughout the case and told a straightforward story on the witness stand, which we all believed. The happening at the hotel was an unfortunate affair for which Arbuckle, so the evidence shows, was in no way responsible. We wish him success and hope that the American people will take the judgment of fourteen men and woman who have sat listening for thirty-one days to evidence, that Roscoe Arbuckle is entirely innocent and free from all blame." Arbuckle was charged with having alcohol at the party Rappe was at (during Prohibition) and the cost of lawyers for the trials broke him financially.
Yes, and Virginia had what we call now, "Pre-existing conditions". I am not sure if there was such a medical term when she died in 1921. Nonetheless, Arbuckle was blacklisted in Hollywood and never really recovered from this trial.
@jbenziggy @HistoryHunters I came to say the same thing. Really wish Jeff would read these comments, do the research and amend this video to accurately state the factual record. Its a shame to see Arbuckle perpetually labeled for a false accusation that devastated his reputation, career and life
You two, Jeff & Sarah, have given us another wonderful episode of The History Hunters. Some of the actors and actresses you showcased, I remember well. Quite a few of them were way before my time and, I never cared much for the Silent films although, I always enjoyed watching Laurel and Hardy and, Buster Keaton. Thanks again for sharing another wonderful and informative video. Stan
Johnny Ramone rocked. All the members of that band died much too soon. Thanks for this fantastic trip down memory lane with all the background information on the actors and actresses interred at this park.

Hi Jeff and Sarah...my mother was a big fan of Tyrone Power she said he was the most handsomest man she had ever seen. My father took us to Hollywood Forever the day of his funeral just so my mother could see his casket. She is 91 and still says Tyrone was so handsome.
@@jbenziggy Met her several times over the years, at autograph shows (w/her husband Tony). She was always so kind & so lovely! (I was a "Rhoda" fan dating back to MTM. My favorite quote is still "Cottage Cheese Solves Nothing, Chocolate Can Do It All").
Thanks Jeff and Sarah for your video of Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It is one of my favorites because my favorite actor is buried there Tyrone Power. I would love to come as see it for myself, but I don't think that will be possible. Keep up the good work.
Hi Teresa..I know it's been a while since you commented here. My mother was also a big fan of Tyrone. When he died my mother was heartbroken. My mother is very shy but told my father she wanted to go to his funeral. The three of us went and I remember my mother hiding behind a palm tree at the cemetery peeking at everything going on. My mother is 93 now but still remembers everything about this day like it was yesterday. I don't think many people remember who Tyrone Power is but my mother and I will never forget.
Thank you for the tour of the cemetery. I also like to visit cemeteries on vacation and took my teenage kids to see Hollywood forever in 2017. It gave my kids a history lesson on celebrities and the monuments there put to shame anything we have seen before.
Great touching information Jeff...as always you take the time to acknowledge others and show respect for those who have left us. Thank you lots! Yvonne.
My very dear friend, and actress Francine York passed away in 2017, and is inurned there. She was in many TV shows, from the late 1950s to 2015. :( I am always SO impressed with the research and editing you do for your excellent videos!
I feel as though I was with you two, thanks so much for the tour and related information, its a real trip for me to be with you, with real, relatable history, thanks again, Frank
You implied The Arbuckle had something to do with the death of Virginia Rappe. This is totally false. Virtually the only indisputable facts seem to be that on September 5, 1921, there was a party at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco where alcohol was in abundance (despite Prohibition laws) and that both Arbuckle, then age 33, and a woman named Virginia Rappe were in attendance. Then, at some point during the revelry, Arbuckle and Rappe were briefly in the same hotel room together. But when Arbuckle left the room, Rappe remained lying on the bed “writhing in pain.” Four days later, she was dead of a ruptured bladder. Another partygoer soon accused Fatty Arbuckle of raping and killing her and he was tried three different times for those crimes. But the first two trials ended with hung juries and the third ended with an acquittal. The partygoer later recant his statement. Whatever happened that night, Virginia Rappe’s condition had still not improved three days afterward. It was then that she was taken to a hospital where doctors originally thought she had alcohol poisoning from the bootleg liquor. But as it turned out, she had peritonitis resulting from a ruptured bladder likely caused by her pre-existing condition.
Thank you Jerry for saying that. I can't believe that Arbuckle is still blamed for this. It was all lies so two women could black mail him. RIP Mr Arbuckle
Prohibition was in place here. Indulging in any illegal activity does not get a good result. This applies today, too. Save yourself from stupidity. (UK)

I find it fascinating how you bring history closer, visit film locations, but also visit the graves of famous Hollywood actors and tell interesting information about them. I wish you and your family good luck in 2024.
Beautiful video of our favorite stars! Thank you Jeff and Sarah! I'm glad you were able to show Valerie's location. She has a beautiful view of the lake! I always think of her when I see a yellow rose. She requested having all those at her memorial to carry a yellow rose, meaning friendship and caring. I didn't know some of those graves you visited, but once you showed the photo of them, then I recognized who it was. Happy New Year!
Unfortunately, Hollywood Forever's policy is that if you want to film there you have to get permission and pay them as well. It is quite an unscrupulous act from them profiting from the people buried there who already paid them (handsomely I'm certain) to be laid to rest there.
Yes but it is private property and people who go there and put it on TH-cam are also making money off of their private property.. so it's only right and fair that they go through the proper channels before they record for commercial use

Jeff, I think it took me about an hour to find Peter Lorrie's grave. I've been to Hollywood Forever Cemetery probably about a dozen times and only once were they complete Nazis about me taking pictures. All the other times they didn't care. The most notorious celebrity Cemetery against photography and filming is holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. I've been kicked out of there once. Jordan The Lion and Adam The Woo have both been kicked out of there for filming. However I think Westwood Memorial Park is the best celebrity Cemetery to visit. They don't care if you take pictures or film as long as your respectful.
Really? I don’t know about this.. I’m in shock. If I want to do a pic o a small video I have to ask and pay? Hollywood graveyard channel how can do his vlog? Paying the cemeteries ? I can’t understand, who watching me in the moment that I do a pic with the phone for example? I don’t think there is a Costant and frequently security around the cemetery ... 🧐🤔 here in Italy this cemetery law don’t exists.. and we have also many many and lots of artists of music culture history and movie ...
Wow, I haven't been to LA since 1997 and I have visited all the great cemeteries there and never had a problem taking photos or videos. Maybe things were different 20+ years ago.
Thank you for showing the inscription on the grave of Douglas Fairbanks. Now I know what I want written on my gravestone! :-) (Except I'd change princes to princess. :-). )

Hi both of you...Thanks for the video, I really enjoy the tour. Speaking of the security guy, maybe they required to talk first with the cementery before do any recording. On another youtuber I follow (Hollywood Graveyard) he even made a full episode on that location without any problems. Speaking of episodes, you should do one covering all the material you have like the signed pictures for example. Of course if the material can be show publicly. Greetings to both.
