  • If your 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300E is experiencing sputtering or stalling issues, it could be a problem with the fuel pumps. In this video, I show you how to replace the fuel pumps on a W124 300E, a process that is similar for other models from 1985 to 1994. I cover all the essential steps, including how to diagnose the problem (hint: try tapping on the fuel pumps with a hammer), how to disconnect the battery safely, and how to remove and install the new fuel pumps. If you're handy with car repairs and want to save money by doing it yourself, this is a video you won't want to miss!

    By the way the item near the fuel filter is called fuel accumulator and not a pressure regulator. On this particular model the pressure regulator is mounted near the mixture control unit. The function of the fuel accumulator is to maintain the pressure in the fuel system for a certain period of time after the engine has been switched off and when the engine is running it serves to deaden the noise of the electric fuel pump. Thanks for your time sharing your experienced and all the best for your future videos.

      Absolutely spot on. I had a strange issue with my m103, don't know what the previous owner did there. My accumulator was entirely missing from the car, and the fuel pumps were quite buzzy but the car was otherwise starting and running fine. So I added the accumulator and lines back, and the buzz actually got louder. I was expecting the buzz to be reduced, but here we are. Living with the noise for now.

    Great Video!
    How do you know/how can you identify which fuel pump needs to be replaced? Have a 300E Mercedes 1988 model and am in the middle of trying to identify which pump to order and change.
    Cheers!

    Are these cars more problematic than anything else? I l am trying to talk myself out of an 87,87 model 300e.. they are calling my name.. but I am a little scared to pull the trigger. I am used to driving Volvo's. Thanks in advance

    Great vid. I wanted to ask, there's a constant buzzing sound after replacing my fuel pump from the rear while the engine is running. Do you get that too?

    • @colegg8029
      @colegg8029 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the sound of the fuel pump running

      @@colegg8029 Is the sound normal for 300Es? Car is sluggish at best. 0-60 is in 13-14 seconds.

      Nick Robertson thanks! It does start fine after priming a few times, thats what lead me to the pump (i had thought there was only one!) being the issue
