@Savage Cabbage there's 2 sides to that story.. he was making bank on the website. He was completely indiscriminate in terms of selling ad space to fucking anybody and excessively littering the entire site with them.. I don't blame steve for doing that, but for him to act like he was losing money and needed to be comped for running the site? Fuck no. Even when he was still working there, several times they approached Steve about relieving him and foundrymusic. As an EP it shouldn't have been on him to begin with. So what did he do? immediately balk at the proposition and begin backpedaling.. foundrymusic was making him a significant percentage of his annual income. Giving up the site would be immediately waving bye bye to several thousand dollars. He wanted it to be both ways.. doesn't work like that. You can't bitch about something and then tell a person to fuck off and leave them alone when you present them with a solution.
I can see some of the grounds for the financial dispute -- Steve was obviously marketing the site + ads all over creation (for personal profit) if gay male porn banners were popping up on the website -- that's not a joke, I'm honestly saying that his paid-adverts got out of control -- on the other hand, he was a 'fan who slowly matriculated onto the show,' and perceived his on-air wages as not covering his prior and off-hours web work. Anthony seems to genuinely enjoy Steve, even during the Steve-vs-Danny interludes. Opie gives off an entirely different vibe; towards the latter years, he's obviously all done with the guy. Doesn't seem like a deserved reaction IMHO.
Would have been better if Steve was sitting in Opies chair and the roles were reversed. Imagine Opie producing the show. He might have actually been good at that.

Yet, Opie whines about “what does he ever do for the show?” The hours of material for this compilation, Pendulum, all RAMONE prank calls, grrr, no no no no no, get out now? Pure gold.
Most valuable producer they ever had. Him and Erock. They had seniority there and provided a shitload of content and never bitched or connived. I don’t hate the other producers, but no one is looking up a Sam Roberts or Danny compilation. Sam could take a joke more than Danny. Danny couldn’t take one at all. But they got treated really well considering the environment.
I love counting how many times Opie goes to the feedback from audience for a joke and he doesn't read it correctly and isn't funny as it's met with silence from everyone
Man, I think Steve's strength was in production, he was a writer and a producer, and he had a great laugh and was great fodder for jokes, but it seems like the guys put him in this corner where, even if he said something funny, they'd all just look at him. Good writer, decent singer, decent guitar player. I wish they would have had him back after he was let go by Sirius. It sucks that he made that stupid, impulsive decision to end his temporary problem with a permanent solution, RIP Steven Carr, child abandoner
If ever one bit distilled the worst of Opie it’s arguing about the Mondays off. He makes multiple references to how he plucked Steve from obscurity and how close he comes to stopping them from making “great radio”, but obviously Opie overcomes it. Obviously only the real greats talk about how good they are rather than letting the work speak for itself or others talking about it via word of mouth. Marketing is what you say about yourself...keep telling people how great you are and it has to be true. Steve C says something in that bit like “it’s cool, I was in the wrong but you’ve cultivated a work environment that’s like the Lord of the Flies. Staff backstabbing each other to get some faint recognition from Opie. Most of the time Jimmy and Ant don’t really care when Opie brings up stuff, they’re just trying to back him up. Then you hear bits like Opie refusing to have a 10 minute meeting and wanting to throw your speakers at the wall as he steps on another great joke. Then there’s just the nastiness that he seems to think is “edgy” like the fugitive bit with Bobo where it’s hilarious until it’s apparent that Bobo is really worried that he’s in trouble and his mother is out of pocket having spent $40 to get them all Turkey. The others all want to end it letting him know he’s off the hook and I think someone brings up reimbursing his mother but Opie just says “fuck him”. Arrgghhh, drove me mad cos in that fugitive section Bobo is funnier than Opie was throughout the course of the show. Norton had a good comparison that Opie is like if a conductor became resentful of the musicians so he uses the wand to just hit the instruments so he can make any noise that’s loud so he can heard rather than be happy he’s helping people make something tuneful and being paid handsomely for it. Sorry for the long comment, but I’ve been listening to way too much OandA recently and the show is good despite his best efforts to ruin it.
As much as I despise Gregg "Opie" Hughes, the Mondays thing really was shitty of Steve. So many people don't seem to understand that he didn't actually _earn_ all those Mondays off, it was an anomaly that arose because of the merger and the legality of the XM contracts and Sirius contracts. There's a maximum amount of vacation days people can earn per year and if you don't take them within the year you lose them. The reality is everyone else there had 'earned' the same amount of vacation days as Steve but they all had the sense to realize if they all took them the show would come to a screeching halt, would probably get cancelled and they'd all be out of a job. Steve C was the only one to think "Oh, fuck everyone else, I'll take all my days off while they're making the 'sacrifice'. It was just a shitty thing. Opie was way over the top, and considering how much of a cunt he was to Steve C every day he can't exactly act surprised Steve C booked all those days off just to get away from him and the toxic environment he'd created, but still, Steve C was in the wrong.
@@E101ification you sound like every inept boss, ever. "Here, have all this vacation time. But you shouldn't use it before you lose it." The real world doesn't work like that. It's not like he took every day off for 2 months. He took Monday's off. The show would not have come to a screeching halt. Someone else would have to step up (like that patsy, Sam) or Monday's would have been less-than. People do this in the real world all the time. I'd bet that almost 0 companies or departments within them failed because people used the vacation time that was given to them.
@@dogfacedgod Exactly. They should let them take the days or pay them out. Plus Opie took so many days off for “his allergy attacks” that the company wanted to charge him for it, the hypocritical douche.
This video is also coincidentally the greatest display of Opie's awfulness. Opie's constant bitching about Steve's work on air in a serious tone is probably what got Steve fired. Everyone else was in a joking mood about it but Opie took it extremely serious.
Did what are you talking about, erock, Danny, Sam, Than, all seriously bitched about Steve. I love Steve C but the idea that Opie was the only one is just wrong. Btw love the profile pic and name, great flick
@@zachpalmero1356 I was talking about between the hosts of the show (Opie, Ant and Jim) Opie was the only one angry for real. There's a difference between the host of the show bitching and the interns/producers bitching (who do you think the higher-ups listen to the most?). Also Anthony did say that Opie fueled the hate towards Steve and that Opie turned the staff on the show against each other, and showed favoritism. Everyone made jokes about Erock but Opie was the only one of the hosts that was genuinly awful towards him in a serious manner as well.
As comedically mean as the show is- Opie was just a plain bully to Steve. No humour at all, he clearly hated him and couldn’t wait to stick the knife in
Jordan Dixon - Opie: hold on, hold on, hold on, wait a minute...why are you blowing up his spot? (Homer): boring, boring, (Homer): Boooo Think that is pretty much the “best of” Opie. All that’s missing is stepping on something really funny by going to the phones or talking about Howard Stern to the point that Ant and Jim clearly feel forced to come in and back him. Stern didn’t even realise he was in a feud.
I actually checked out his band Foundry Musics album on TH-cam a few years back and the band wasn't bad at all. They sounded like a band who had some good written songs and you could tell if they kept playing together they would of gotten tighter and really found their sound and possibly could of been a steady touring band making money. Damn shame he let his demons get too him and he did what he did. Damn shame man.
"Glory Glory Hole-ellujah" is one of the funniest fuckin' things I have ever heard a caller say!! This clip proves that some of the fans were absolutely hilarious!
"I hate Steve C on the radio." - Says the person who ruined this compilation. I honestly think Opie is just jealous because Steve makes radio gold and Opie just gets shit on for being a train wreck of comedy. I kinda get what might've lead to Steve's mindset towards the end though. It is brutal listening to O&A have these "HR Moments" on-air with Steve that are supposed to be internal. That Steve C. paranoid at 04:02:03 definitely shows he had been beaten down by that point.
I wonder what Norton's angle was here. When he started, I first thought it was Jimmy's traditional "ask probing serious questions as if he doesn't get it" schtick -- which I typically find insufferable -- but, as it goes on, it feels more like Norton is probing some sort of why-aren't-you-happy-here, why-are-you-so-touchy thing. Basically a gentler foreshadowing of what Opie himself does to Norton a few years later: why are you being so quiet, you're paranoid, don't you like it here, if you don't like it here you shouldn't hang around on the show till October. Sort of a destructive spiral. If everyone picks everyone else apart, eventually it'll come down to the last man standing, or nobody at all, which is effectively what we're seeing in 2019/2020.
Listening back on it, I can clearly hear Ant (and most especially Ant + Jim) goading Opie to tell stupid obviously-fabricated personal stories, then murmuring "Oh yeah," "Oh sure," "Oh I bet you did" as he gets carried away. Went on for easily a decade.
The way Opie cranks on the sound effect board in these old clips really is grating. Maybe at the time it was cool but now I find it grating. I think I've heard him play jim bruer laughing for no reason like a thousand times.
Ohhhh holy fuck, is the Jim Breuer laugh the one he uses all the fucking time? Its like obscenely loud and obnoxious fake.. wow. steve deserved better, not that he was treated badly by jimmy or ant, maybe he was by opie and sam. But i wish he wouldve stayed with o&a and became a huge part of the show. wouldve loved to see him on the compound
Steve did a lot for O&A. I used to listen to them on regular radio back in like 2000 or so. He started giving them an internet presence by posting bits like 50 gallon drum challenge online. They resented him because he didn’t lose his job when everyone got fired from WNEW… I forget what the reasoning was, maybe he wasn’t an official employee of the show but WNEW itself or something like that. Black Earl kept his job too. But Steve put his time in for them and obviously gave them countless hours of material for the show. RIP
If that dude doing the Star Wars One-Man Show decided to not try to impersonate extremely famous characters voices and decided to do the show as Voices he can actually do (whatever those voices might be, because these aren't it/If he can do Tony Danza or something, make Tony Danza be Han Solo) because he has the script written close to the real thing so it could be a Parody and he could have had to pay nothing to Lucas, he would be actually successful and rich. Danny really is the biggest piece of shit the show ever had.
I love counting how many times Opie goes to the feedback from audience for a joke and he doesn't read it correctly and isn't funny as it's met with silence from everyone
3:03 Ant responding "I like that" heres the wheels spinning for him getting the idea to do everything eventually from his home

Steve was an ass it isn’t their fault he was a substance addict
Man, I think Steve's strength was in production, he was a writer and a producer, and he had a great laugh and was great fodder for jokes, but it seems like the guys put him in this corner where, even if he said something funny, they'd all just look at him. Good writer, decent singer, decent guitar player. I wish they would have had him back after he was let go by Sirius. It sucks that he made that stupid, impulsive decision to end his temporary problem with a permanent solution, RIP Steven Carr, child abandoner
he could play that one song really well
Listening to Opie cry about Steve taking 70 Mondays off makes my blood boil.
I didn’t understand that, Steve had days off, and had to use them? So opie was mad? What a shitbag
This video is also coincidentally the greatest display of Opie's awfulness. Opie's constant bitching about Steve's work on air in a serious tone is probably what got Steve fired. Everyone else was in a joking mood about it but Opie took it extremely serious.
"I hate Steve on the radio"
Kind of a hilarious thing for someone who is almost universally hated as a radio host to say. Self awareness level - 0
No humour at all, he clearly hated him and couldn’t wait to stick the knife in
Christ Opie, slamming the sound board doesn't count as contributing. It's a hybrid and it's "futuristic", WE GET IT.
Jordan Dixon - Opie: hold on, hold on, hold on, wait a minute...why are you blowing up his spot? (Homer): boring, boring, (Homer): Boooo
Think that is pretty much the “best of” Opie. All that’s missing is stepping on something really funny by going to the phones or talking about Howard Stern to the point that Ant and Jim clearly feel forced to come in and back him. Stern didn’t even realise he was in a feud.
@@radiusone216 That’s what WE do!
Ant did a lot of the hybrid effects. A lot of the Steve stuff wasn’t even on Opie’s board.
Patrice is roasting Steve’s promos in heaven lol

Steve was a good old bear.
You’re a legend Tefft. Amazing work
I actually checked out his band Foundry Musics album on TH-cam a few years back and the band wasn't bad at all.
Losing good eggs like Steve meanwhile opie still breathing. Life is so unfair
What do you mean? Seeing Opie lose his family and become a worse unemployable version of Scorch is hilarious. PFG if you ask me

That and every story, brotha man. Opie and stories got that chemistry

RIP
