You're right, @JimmyMactvish, although I suppose Starward had the option to instead use an Australian regional name such as Riverina, etc.--depending on from where the grapes originated, of course. Perhaps they felt that was less of a selling point, or perhaps the grapes came from more than one region?
Ah, thanks for the insights my friend! Most Sauternes casks I have tried have been finishes and nowhere near as dark as this one, so I thought it must have been something different. Appreciate you sharing some knowledge for us 🥃
Surprised you haven't already come across it Wade. Botrytis casks peaks my interest everytime. I love the fruity sweet oilyness. Its mouthfeel is almost like a liqueur. Truly a dessert whisky ! I saw your Starward bottle on the AWA recently, but I settled on alternatives. I understand their initial sale was via ballott. Craftworks put out 'Juicy Lucy' - sold out recently & very quickly and I believe another batch is in the making. 'Noble Lane' from Amber Lane is another, is absolutely superb and has won numerous awards.
I have a bottle at home that I haven't opened yet. I reckon that the ginger beer cask Starward have done several releases of might be their most unusual. I'm not aware of anyone else doing that, but am looking forward to trying this one.
Great review, Wade! Sounds very interesting and it’s fantastic they are playing with different casks. I was surprised to hear you say it was 7, that is quite old for your climate. Cheers!
I love a good sticky wine made from Botrytis infected grapes, so delicous!!! Great with a Creme Caramel for desert, can't wait to try this if I can but sounds like we can't 😞
What an interesting cask! I have heard of noble rot, especially in terms of Suaternes production so I suppose this cask used to hold Semillon grapes which were infected with the noble rot? Am I correct to assume it's a sweet wine cask essentially? Either way it's a cool day when you try something new, whether you like it or not. Cheers my friend 🥃
Any Sauternes cask you have had would probably be botrytis too. We aren’t allowed to call it that in Australia due to regional naming rights.

I want to try this. Hope to find it in Scotland.
It's a good one for sure!
Derwint Distillery released a Botrytis Cask. I grabbed a bottle of that earlier this year.
Ah interesting!

I didn't realise that Noble Lane from Amber lane was Botrytis, I enjoyed that one when I sampled it!

Yeah that Ginger Beer cask was really cool wasn't it!
I absolutely love your videos. For me your the best at describing the taste sensation. Really well done. I'm just starting my whisky journey. 😊
Thank you Christoph, great to connect with you on our journeys!
Excellent review and really glad to learn about Botrytis. Great by Starward to give you the opportunity to have your say on the dram.
Thanks, Iain. Yeah, pretty cool to be able to try some interesting new whiskies because of the channel! Thanks for watching my friend.

Indeed! It's vintage whisky at this point Sheldon 😁
I tried a Year ago the Starward Octave Barrels and I loved it 👌. Nice review.🇳🇱
Thanks for watching!
I have a Islay whisky which is matured in a Cranberrywine cask, it's a lityle bit querky but nice
Unreal, sounds VERY unique!

Sounds like a great combo! I'm hoping you find one of these, I'm sure a few will pop up.
Thats nice of starward! 😉🥃
Yes it was!
Hey Wade, loving the videos, keep them coming! Cheers from Melbourne.
Glad you like them! Appreciate you being here Tom 🥃
Oh man, I haven’t cracked my bottle yet but now I wish I bought 2.
I hope you enjoy it when you do crack it Lawrence 🥃
Amber Lane have a new one out in the same type of cask. Alchemical series - Air. Tasted it the other day and it’s great.
Ooh I did not know this. Amber Lane are great!
@@McIntyresMalts it’s a second fill cask, so it wouldn’t be as sweet I don’t think. A lot lighter in colour as well.
Never had that cask for sure! Sounded really good though. Love intense, powerful. Though .... maybe I would like a longer finish?
Yes, only shortfall is the finish, but a minor gripe when everything else is really good!
it is quite strong for me with 48% abv but I still like to try this bottle.
It drinks very well at 48% and is even better with water so I'm sure could find the right balance for your palate 😊

You are on the money my friend!
BOTRYTIS sounds like a character out of Mad Max 😂
Haha it does!
Sounds expensive 🎉
Actually very affordable in the spectrum of Aussie whisky, was a ballot for $179 I believe
