These are a couple of those questions that I just get asked over and over again, despite being the essential tools of the sniper in War Thunder Ground RB. So, let's go in depth and show how it's done, so that you too can snipe your enemies from across the map!

after 900 hours and about 4000 RB battles I learned not one but two completely new things to me!
almost 1900 hours here and just found out you can zero in your gun into certain distance O_O

I knew about the gunner range finding, but never knew about the full real control version where u can move the horizontal lines while keeping the center of your sight on target. Thx MGB!

this really helps thank you, but only for PC version ps4 controls are wonky and lack any option to use binos what so ever
You forgot the rangefinding via the gun sight:
Trying to make it as simple as possible. The gun sight also has a horizontal line with numbers, for example the number four. Now you look at your target and estimate the width of it, let's say 3m. For this example we assume that the target fills the space between the 0 mark and the 4. Now we divide the the width of the tank with the number that it fills on the horizontal bar and multiplikate with 1000. There we have the range. In this case 3/4 x 1000 = 750m
Quite simple as long as you know the width

Satan In case you also don't know... you can also attach a keyboard and mouse if your on the PS4 like me. Playing the exact same as when I'm on my Pc. Only you have to bind ever key (but hey, you do it once! and never really have to change it ^^)

This trick does not seem to be very well known in the community. Almost every other Warthunder player I've seen doesn't use the rangefinder or binocular shot. They know how to use the binoculars in a basic sense but not the shot or rangefinder. I'm slightly amazed this hasn't become more popular given its usefulness.
In the case of the rangefinder, i find it much easier to use instincts that are better than the gunner.
Gunner: Sir the distance is more than 600m!
Me: Well that's obvious u idiot. (proceeds to shoot instinctively and ammorack the Panzer IV)

WOOOOOW soooo glad I ran into this video!!! I started WT this year and am enjoying it. I did notice the bino view being taller than the gunner, but I never knew I could hold down the firing button and then switch to gunner causing it to fire instantly... this will greatly help my sniping from bushes skills!
Great tip with the holding the mouse button down when switching from binocular to gunner view.

Hey mike thanks for telling us about the gun sight elevation Iv been playing for 4 years and never knew about that
1:37 it's not Theory anymore. Mythbusters proved it with 10 consecutive impacts all of which, the 2 projectiles landed within less than one 28th of a millisecond of eachother hitting the ground. And the gun barrel was perfectly level to a thousandth of a degree.

Awesome video Mike. I've been playing WT for years (low to mid tiers). I thought rangefinders were for high tiers / modern tanks only, so I never really bothered.
This makes me want to play realistic battles more!

Ive been playing warthunder for years, I think that the most of " veteran " players can guess/estimate a very accuarate distance of an enemy just by geting used to how far is the tank and knowing the map. great video btw

As you were describing the bino shot trick I used it in my game at the same time, super handy when using a TD

I've played War Thunder for years, but am only now learning about any of this. I was always in the 'put enough hours into a tank so you have a gut feeling of where the shell is going to land' club.

I know this is a very old video, but the sherman spying the tiger and running away is so accurate for war thunder that after I stopped laughing I had to comment.
I would have suggested looking at using stadiametric range finding, using the vertical lines to the side. If you get good, you can estimate your own distance quickly since the in-game rangefinder can take awhile.

thank you so much wow i had no idea you could do ANY of these things. i just thought people were good at estimating how far away people were and using the lines in the sight. gonna try this out tomorrow and see if im a bit more successful in my tiger as i might actually be able to snipe something now with some practice

I´ve been playing War thunder for a long time. Im not sure just how long, but I had no clue you could change the "default range" your gunsight would point at, ie change it so instead of having to point the gun higher to aim at 800 meters I just set she sight higher. This is some useful shit. I dont know how manny times I lost track of where I was aiming and had to start zeroing in all over again.

The some what realistic bullet telemetry has ALWAYS been in the game, watch ANY air replay in slow motion, you can see how not all the bullets will fly straight, some spread, that also depends on your gun convergence and how far away you are from said target you are firing; also really cool to watch the empty shells eject in slow motion, i think it would be really cool for open top tanks; you could see the shells being discarded out of the top/over the side =) like the M10 for example or seeing an aa/a sitting in a pile of it's own empties or an 88mm sitting on a pile of empty shells.
On a foot note about tanks YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO USE A RANGE FINDER AND BINO'S ON ANY TANK!!!! ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SET BUTTONS FOR THEM!! As they have ALWAYS been in the options menu or as far as i can remember, and I have always used them both, not just on spotter tanks or later variants , you can even display the gun so it show's in the gun site..It just comes back to that good old golden rule, make sure you read it all and ALWAYS read the fine print!
ALSO!! Mike I love your video's I hope this one really did help alot of people, well done mate, should do one explaining how to High level bomb, i can hit ANYTHING from 25,000 or higher..skip bomber and level runs at 50ft are cool too, but i think it shows more skill to hit a tank from 25,000ft ai or not.

I love doing the binocular shot with the Raketenjagdpanzer.
1. Drive behind a ridge, completly invisible for the enemy
2. Fire the rocket in the general direction of the targets skywards
3. WASD the rocket into your target while in binocular view
It's insanly overpowered, since the enemy never gets to see your tank.
.... this video is amazing, so many things I hadnt even noticed before, this makes life so much easier. i used to hate ground combat.
On abandonned Factory, while shooting over concrete Walls, bino shooting IS the key.
Especialy when an enemy with heat loaded is waiting for you, you can just shoot throught while je doesnt

the gunner sights on most teir 2 british vehicles is almost the same zoom as the binoculars, so when i changed tech trees (7.0 britain got a little slow) i can guess range from my own depth perception by using binoculars

Holy shit. Been playing wt for 3 years, i knew about rangefinder but never used axis adjustments. Just tried it: best rb match i've ever had. Its like i've been playing the gma e wrong all this time. Just a single thing and, oh my.
now to try and remeber the tips
I mainly use this rule that I read about somewhere, or I made up myself idk. Basically I have trained myself to be able to hit a far away target with only two shots, my rule is that I use one round to hit in front of the target, one round to hit behind the target, and by the time that happens I would've roughly estimated where to shoot to get a direct hit. It works 85% of the time.
gunner sight in german vehicles (mostly TDs) is on top of the vehicle, its great to use because you can be bihind a bush only with a periscope sticking out...
