- Good design and layout of an espresso bar is critical in setting up your business for success. Everything needs to be carefully planned and thought through to maximize workflow & efficiency to make sure your food and beverages are being prepped and delivered in a timely, no fuss manner.
You also want to make sure it's easy for your customers to move through your shop. There should be clear paths and direction for entry and exit points, where to place orders and where to wait in takeaway situations.
It's critical that proper planning is undertaken before you start building so that you get all of your benches built to suit, as well as plumbing and electrical connected to match all of the equipment that you are wanting to install. The size and space of your cafe may limit what size and type of equipment you can use. This needs to be thought and planned very carefully before making any purchases.
In this video Luke walks you through the Artisti Espresso Bar and shows you how we've laid it out along with considerations we had to make. We hope you enjoy the video and it helps you plan and build your dream cafe so that you are kicking goals from day one!

Pro tip: Always take into account the overall weight of everything on the bar to ensure that the bar can support all of the equipment.
Yes, if you have a wide gap of support you may need to have a metal support bar
I appreciate all the tips that Artisti provides to the new coffee shop entrepreneur.
Our pleasure. Cheers luke
Thank you for practical tips on how to organize the area around an espresso machine!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your kind and informative discrption.
Excellent detail. The front of my pop-up are two Bror workbenches at 110 cm length each and 55cm deep. The first is the cash drawer and POS cart that doubles as a cup counter, tea bag display and roasted bags of coffee display. The second has an e65 GbW, pitcher rinser, and countersunk decent espresso, plus three pitchers, two portafilters, and a countersunk knockbox. THis is really cramped. There is almost no place to line up cups, so I use the shelf below the table tap, but that also holds other gear. I make it work, but its super tight.
Sounds very tight, can you put a wider top on it?
Very efficient and effective cafe layout!
Thank you
Another great video! Thank you guys
Hi from Antalya Türkiye :)
Hello there!
Lots of fantastic content Jimmy and Luke!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great, concise, video. Cant thank you enough for the invaluable information.
We're about to set up a coffee bar & kitchen - also in an industrial warehouse.
Brilliant! Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers luke
This content is so timely. We are in the process of opening a dessert cafe, and my wife and I have been on a coffee shop crawl for a month now trying to observe how shops are setting up their espresso bars, while also seeing how efficient their workflows are. I have been having so many questions and It's like you guys just read my mind. Thank you for making this video. Now I can stop staring at every espresso bars like a creep. 😂
😂 here comes that guy again after a free iced water, all he does is stair at the staff and look puzzled 🤔
Must needed video for my next cafe.thank you so much Artisti
Most welcome 😊
Excellent video. I work in the industry and I’m finally opening up my own space. This is the most concise video resource I’ve found. Thank you 🙌
noice jean shorts! you aussies have some style.
Nice elaboration.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the feedback. Cheers luke
Thanks ❤
One of your best yet, thank you so much! Do you offer the I-milk to USA customers ?
Some have made there way to the USA, please email I-milk directly via their website
Thank you for this! We just bought a coffee and used book shop in September and are looking at remodeling. May I ask where you have baked goods and ice?
We only have 2 biscuits and a brownie, so we have them on our bar in nice jars. Our ice is in the training room next door, not ideal
How I wish do have a lot of money to make a beautiful cafe like this... 😜😁😁
Great video with uselful info. I know coffee is the star of the show, but as for food, for a small espresso bar, what kind of food do you recommend to have to go with coffee? keeping it simple without having to have major kitchen set up?
Fresh baked goods is a must, muffins and slices, protein balls, a breakfast wrap or bacon and egg roll, and some fresh sandwiches that you can toast up. And a healthy chicken salad is always a good option
Any advice for someone wanting to set up a mobile coffee truck? Love your content 🙌🏻
Yes we have a full video series on this, check it out
Hi A bench length of say 3000mm should be min roughly going by this post ?
Thanks for the Great video! I got one question, can the waste water from coffee machine direct drain out without filtered through the grease trap?
That would be a specific question for your council waste water management team. Every council seems to be different on this. My understanding is if you have one then yes, if you don’t have one then no.
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters thanks for replying. Second question may i know the coffee powder residue in the water will chock up the drain pipe?
hello, I wanted to ask why do you put the coffee cups on top of the machine facing down, why not facing up? Is there any technical reason? thank you, and thank you so much for your content which is phenomenal. Keep going with awesome content and awesome coffee 💪🔥
Hi, if you have then facing up it may get some dirt, a fly or something caught in it, facing helps this and also catches the heat from the machine to warm them easier
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters Hello, but don't you think that your coffee machine can easily overheat, if you put cups like this, and your customer can easily burn lips? We used to have it facing up, so bottom of the glass is nicely heat and ready for coffee.
@@tencohravalzdezom hello! at the cafe I work at we have the mugs facing upside down and it dosent get so hot it just gets the cup at a warm temperature, but then again it may also depend on what kind of material the mug is made, but just wanted to inform you on my experience with them being upside down! :)
I wish this video existed 2 years ago :')
😂 next video is how to make a flux capacitor 🤙🏻
hello! i was wondering if you could share what you're using for your knockbox waste TOWER!
It’s a rhino tumpa 900 we sell them online if your in Australia
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters sadly, i am in chicago :/
where do you store your ice for cold drinks?
We have a room behind for training. It had our ice. Originally we only want to serve coffee but demand pushed us to serve all coffee types and we did not plan to be that busy. 😂
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters nice problems to have though!
Brand of milk/jug washer?
Is it good to put the jug washer in front of the coffee machine?
No, that space is for coffee cups and orders, you will fill the area with jugs and they will be in the way, also you are cutting a hole in the bench where the weight of the coffee machine is and it may reduce its strength
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters thanks for the great explanation🙏🏻🥰
🙌
ty
Welcome
hi team, whats the name of the milk system?
I-milk
When you said fatty milk I cracked up 🤣
Curious, are you guys open for service during these types of videos? It looks like the middle of the day and it would be unfortunate to have someone walk in during recording haha
We record during the day live! Yes we get lots of interruptions from our lovely customers, that’s why we keep going if there is some noise from other businesses or the phone rings 😂
Hey do you guys have a website? I looked but idk if I got the correct results.
We sure do, www.artisti.com.au
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters OK cool ill check it out. Please keep an eye out for an email from me. Is there someone specific I should address my email to?
How much capital you needed to get the shop of the ground mate?
That’s a very open question, depend on a cafe, a hole in the wall or a espresso bar, all are different but at least $80-100k will get you a shop front of some sort. Look at what’s for sale that will help you get an idea of $
the grinder next to the till person and ordering customer looks to be super loud :/
Do you measure in milimeters?
Yes we do
What a the height of your counter ?
To the top of the counter is 980mm. Let us know if you have any more questions :)

всё очень коассно, но меня столько всего раздражает в этом )))))
I cant get over the audio, its peeking and hurting my ears
Turn it down 😂
@Artisti Coffee Roasters. no matter how much you turn it down. The Audio is clipping when you were recording it.
I can turn it down so I don't hear the tearing noise, but then I'm trying to read his lips
