this looks really great! -- i ferment my own pickles, beets and carrots so i think next time i do i will ferment the carrots and beets either diced or grated so i will be able to make this without needing to cook them (only have to cook the potatoes) and depending on what spices i use to ferment everything with... hmmm...
one of my families favorites but we add a little vinegar n more dill !!! yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm also never had it with the peas but i am positive it would be good . we add red kidney beans !!!!! ty so much . have a great 4th .
Souerkraut, dill and good unrefined sunflower oil add proper flavor to this salad,no peas and if you insist on boiling your beets, don't cut the ends on the root, just scrub them thoroughly and put them in water whole, but I roast beets in the oven and steam carrots and potatoes. That is my hubby's absolute favorite salad and it's vegan!
There is a red onion in Ukraine that is sweeter and more squat shaped than the rounds ones in the US. I would use a red onion, perhaps dicing it and soaking it in water for 30 minutes then draining and adding to the salad.
We add beans instead of green peas. And sometimes marinaded cabbage instead of pickles.Try to mix shredded beetroot with oil and then add all the vegetables.or opposite-mix oil with all the vegetables well and add the beetroot . Then all the vegetables will keep their own color.
I think this recipe is originally from Finland. And they add apples. It's called Rosolli and it is eaten around Christmastime. But maybe it's famous in all of the Baltic States by now.
I'm here because l'm curious, and kinda looking for a similar salad my mom made a few times way back when l was a kid. I don't have a recipe but remember diced beets, potatoes, onions in thin rings(like you get on burgers)and vinegar and oil, salt and pepper to taste. It was pretty but l refused to eat it, like most kids age 8. It probably was very good. I don't remember if she boiled the beets or cut up canned whole beets I don't know if I'll ever make this but it looks good, like a meal in itself. Maybe something like beef, chicken or fish to go with it. .
I was loving the recipe and watching like in a trance of bliss until the entry of peas and on top of that canned... I was like what 😯? You gotta be kidding. But any how, I would simply skip them. I find boiling such big potatoes for just 10 minutes also strange. And leaving them in water overnight 🤔 very interesting. Gotta try it soon.
Thanks for your question, tt0050. Leaving the veggies overnight tenderizes them. Here's a link to the original recipe if you wish to review the steps: allrecipes.com/recipe/ukrainian-salat-vinaigrette-beet-salad/detail.aspx
Yes! Roasted beets have a much sweeter flavor. I have roasted beets for some salads that I prepared for my Russian friends. They now roast rather than boil their beets.
I agree with you Ed. Roasting vegetables preserve their flavor when done properly. I am a big fan of beets and I always roast them. I am glad that your friends enjoyed them.
i dont know where is from information about Vinaigrette being Ukrainian Salad. Its traditionally Russian dish with French name & originally came from Germany or Scandinavia. Yes it was popular in USSR but it doesnt make it just ukranian food. Salmagundi - one of variations with beets goes way before Vinaigrette.
This isn't only Ukrainian. The beet salad is Russian too. It's called Venigret. The Russian version you have to use fresh red onion, pickles, vinegar, olive oil, beets, potatoes, carrots, fresh dill, sweet peas, salt, pepper, one can of red kidney beans
Hi nadlime, thanks for your question. The potatoes will still have some bite to them, feel free to cook them longer than 10 minutes if you prefer. Enjoy!
All nuteional value is gone if you boil veggies, and you want the cruch in veggies, I would say half cooked would be great, May be 2 spoons of olive oil and heat em in oven, but not for long
Ive been eating this for years- and this recipe seems pretty good (but i would leave out the peas unless you want them). The vegetables surprisingly dont get mushy! The salad actually gets prettier with time because everything takes on a lovely beet color.
Canned peas? just use frozen, they will thaw by the time you are read to eat.. Use tender beet tops cut in a chiffonade instead of parley, and use sour cream mixed with pickle juice to dress. And lot of dill, if it is beautiful and you have it! Could also use hard boiled eggs on the side and forget about the chicken or ham. Lots of shredded cabbage and diced chicken and you could call this Borscht Salad.
Those carrots look terrible. I would steam them in another pot with some frozen peas. The peas only need to be defrosted, so they do not need as long as the carrots. Everything else looked great.
this salad looks like it would be very bland- unless I missed something the dressing is olive oil and salt and pepper. I think it would be better made with vinegar and sugar to add a sweet tart taste. How important are the peas to the authenticity of this salad? Canned peas are not appetizing to me at all so I would want to leave them out
I think this dish was poor man's dish. I will rader too without beans. I will make today and tommorow will but fresh cucumber, honing and limon juice and seldery with beefstick and I can imagine how test will turnes. Sorry my broken inglish. I think the adia is to have the beetroots the rest you can let some of them and to but whatever you disair 🌹
Nothing. But a change of flavors is nice sometimes. I have seen Shuba (Herring under a fur coat) made with a half liter of Mayo, not bad for a traditional holiday comfort food dish.
The salad looks fantastic, but the person with the knife looks like an amateur. Amateurs use a sawing motion and the tip of the knife. I was waiting for a finger to get cut.
This is exactly what I am looking for. Love the bright colors and textures for a gloomy day outside. Thank you.

This is the MOST appetizing beet recipe I've seen... very creative. I'm going to try it.
Love this one. Thanks for the recipe
Nice combination of crunch by adding the pickles and onions.
Great recipe! I miss the recipe videos.
I made it!! Super delicious
Glad you liked it!!
one of my families favorites but we add a little vinegar n more dill !!! yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm also never had it with the peas but i am positive it would be good . we add red kidney beans !!!!! ty so much . have a great 4th .
My mom dont add raw onion neither the parsley but she add coleslaw instead (the russian one) and its delish!!

agree , our favorite also . my husbands family is from ukraine . have a great 4th .
That looks and sounds sooo good and I have all the recipes. I’m gonna make it!!
Love this kind of food...🎉🎈🎊🎈🎉🎊🎈🎈🎉

Looks delicious, I have to make this. 🥰
Super-Salad... I've made it today.. it was great
I added a dollop of sour cream, chopped green onion, and dill at the end and it was delicious!

Yeah i agree, plus me i hate dill pickles so i'd skip them for sure and i wouldn't wait until next day to serve.. that's kind of weird lol
Super
This looks great
Yummmeed to try this!
Hello! Thank you for your lovely channel. Could you tell me please, why should the boiled vegetables in this recipe stay overnight?
Thanks for your question, tt0050. Leaving the veggies overnight tenderizes them. Here's a link to the original recipe if you wish to review the steps: allrecipes.com/recipe/ukrainian-salat-vinaigrette-beet-salad/detail.aspx
Hi can i use sweet potato 🍠 instead of potatoes?
Super recipe★★★★★
I rather roast the vegetables than boiling them. they come out juicier and without the "the wet texture."
Great idea Fernanado! Thanks for sharing :)

umm actually am new to cooking beets so can anyone tell me how do we roast em
Fernando Lopez I would love to have them raw

yes i forgot the kidney beans .....ty so much .
kathy jo tourtois You are so welcome
I had a salad in a Russian restaurant called oliveit salad. Is it almost the same?
Corn would work well in this dish
I like to add pinto or read kidney beans for a creamy texture.
Is that the same recipe as Dwight’s?
Will the potatoes cook in 10 min then left overnight?
Hi nadlime, thanks for your question. The potatoes will still have some bite to them, feel free to cook them longer than 10 minutes if you prefer. Enjoy!
+odinnadsad I was wondering that...
I would add some black olives and feta. Great salad.
All nuteional value is gone if you boil veggies, and you want the cruch in veggies, I would say half cooked would be great, May be 2 spoons of olive oil and heat em in oven, but not for long
Right
Sauerkraut would be overkill. I recommend a heaping dollop of sour cream. Done and done.
John V. Karavitis
If you add sour cream, it won't be a Vinaigrette :-\
Did anyone make this and did the veggies get really smushie the following day?
Ive been eating this for years- and this recipe seems pretty good (but i would leave out the peas unless you want them). The vegetables surprisingly dont get mushy! The salad actually gets prettier with time because everything takes on a lovely beet color.
@@marsy6359 thank you for letting me know , have a great day.
i made this and then decided to keep them in the fridge and continue making my peanut butter and jelly sandwich
LMFAO damn 💀😂
Is it eaten with something? Or alone?
Can you substitute the olive oil for the veggie oil ?
I`m trying to save some money
No. Impossible.
lol Yes, you can.
Hi there, you can certainly substitute olive oil. Enjoy :)
Duy Thành Nguyễn sunflower oil use for salads in ukraine.i use canola oil sometime for salads.olive oil use nations around middeterenian sea.
Instead of canned peas, steam a cup of frozen peas and add.
try beets on bilo bilo Filipino recipe

I love your recipe better.
Ava Tutt Why thank you honey! Great in the summer, when it is "too hot to eat".
It would be better to steam veggies.
Also you can add some vinegar.
Use pickle juice!
I read the title of the video as "Beef Salad" for some reason.
I love Thai beef salad.
there are few edible things more vile than canned peas.
instead of cooking beets; try to bake them wrapped in an aluminum foil; much taster:):)
Corn is require or not?
Those carrots look terrible. I would steam them in another pot with some frozen peas. The peas only need to be defrosted, so they do not need as long as the carrots. Everything else looked great.
here is a rule of thumb roasted beets, never boil them.
That would have been must healthier and i think much tastier as a soup. All the nutritions are in the water you didn't use
Please tell me you didn't waste that beetroot boiled water....all the essences are inside.
I'm on the fence about the pickles.
this salad looks like it would be very bland- unless I missed something the dressing is olive oil and salt and pepper. the other lady uses champagne vinegar or apple cider vinegar, and there is dill and dill pickle which makes it really yummy
I used lime juice n chilly flakes n rock salt to make it little spicy

Your suggestion sounds good to me.
red beet is so tasty raw. god damn people wake up. when I read salad I thought it's gonna be good raw food..
Chicken kiev was invented in the us
I Love Jonna Napire 💜💚❤️ JULY 10, 2024
What, exactly, is WRONG with mayo?
Nothing. But a change of flavors is nice sometimes. I have seen Shuba (Herring under a fur coat) made with a half liter of Mayo, not bad for a traditional holiday comfort food dish.
ugh...why do you have to be so slow and delicate with your movements in all these videos?? its so annoying!
This is a Vinegret!
boiling vegetables is the worst way to cook them. water soluble vitamins leach into the liquid.
kawal
Oooooo I hate canned peas. Sorry, but they taste like grammar school food. Why not fresh frozen?
No vinegar in the recipe? Then don't call it a vinaigrette!
i would roast them instead
Full meal.. Not salad
Bake or Roast ur veggies, are losing vitamins, tastes richer to
I won't add pickles 🤢 I hate them
this video is good to watch stoned
The salad looks fantastic, but the person with the knife looks like an amateur. Amateurs use a sawing motion and the tip of the knife. I was waiting for a finger to get cut.
It is NOT ukrainian salad.
They didnt say it was. They said it is eaten in Ukraine...
It is eaten in Russia. That doest make it ukrainian salad
ffighter
Did you listen to what I said.
THEY NEVER SAID IT WAS UKRAINIAN SALAD THEY SAID IT WAS EATEN THERE.
Timi FFS can you read?
ffighter
I don't think your reading what I said.
This looks nasty.
