- With reality crumbling around her wherever she goes, Adora tries to get the help of Glimmer, Bow, and Entrapta, only for them to fade away, and leaving Adora with the prospect of sacrificing herself to close the portal. Just when it seems like the end for her, Queen Angella comes to her aid, leading to a POWERFUL end of Shera's third season. BRING THE TISSUES, cause its about to get EMOTIONAL.

I know you mentioned being a bit confused about the portal. To clarify, nothing that happened in the portal was in Adora's head. The fact that Catra holds the side of her face that Adora punched when they return is evidence of that =] Also, something interesting and very telling about this episode is up until this point Adora's always put the blame on Shadow Weaver's shoulders or her own, for what Catra's been doing. That look she gives her says 'I can't make excuses for you anymore...Pulling the switch wasn't on Shadow Weaver's, or the Horde's orders. You chose to do this.'

"Take care of each other" is one of the most heartbreaking lines in the show.
It's even more heartbreaking when you realize that Adora didn't hear that, she heard: "Take care of everyone."
@@faithjolley6034 I don't know if you mean in the metaphorical or literal sense, (if you mean metaphorical, you are absolutely right and I agree with you) but Adora definitely heard the "each other" part, it's just that her savior complex and sense of responsibility towards everyone made her turn "each other" into "everyone".

Since a lot of you didn't know about Micah's voice actor, I feel obligated to say another voice acting fun fact; Jordan Fisher also plays Sea Hawk (which I was incredibly shocked to find out)!

How none of the voice actors received any awards for their acting in this show is beyond me. Their performances in this episode give me chills every single time. Particularly "You made your choice. Now _LIVE WITH IT_ !" and "Take care of each other," but honestly this whole episode gives me chills
Aimee Carrero is just. Such a great actor. Her voice is so expressive. She's so creative and I think that her voice was perfect for Adora.
The voice acting is one of the best things about this show. You can tell that every single member of the cast was very passionate about this story, even when a large chunk of it was botched due to bad writing in Season 5. Heck, they even managed to get Geena Davis involved and she's a well known actress outside of this show.
Christine Woods is my favourite member of the cast. Entrapta's my favourite character but even if you take that fact out of the equation, I feel like Christine grew the most as an actress throughout the show. When you compare her with AJ Michalka, Aimee Carrero, Karen Fukuhara or Lorraine Toussant, they were amazing right from the start. In comparison, Christine took longer to find her voice and occasionally slipped out of character. However, to quote Entrapta "Imperfection is beautiful" and it's partially BECAUSE Christine didn't have as much raw talent as the others that I appreciate how much passion she put into her work and the fact that she kept getting better as the series went on. She knows that she has to work for her success and is grateful for her opportunities, which is refreshing because many actresses are spoiled brats these days. By the time we reached Season 5, Christine developed her voice acting skills to a point where she and Keston John could carry the entire season by themselves. I'd be totally happy to watch a spinoff that's focussed entirely on Entrapta and Hordak because they were the best part of the series.

@@angryretailbanker5103 Catra's redemption arc was poorly written and Adora and Glimmer had to be character assassinated to make it happen. The Adora from Season 4 would have treated Catra with the same distain and mistrust as she treated Shadow Weaver. As for Glimmer, she would NEVER have gotten so chummy with Catra without at least confronting her about Angella's death.
Also Wrong Hordak wasted time that should have been dedicated to the actual Hordak.

Adora *finally* standing up for herself in this episode was incredibly powerful because she has had issues with that exact problem throughout the entire show, and because it's *Catra* she's standing up to. This entire time, she believed she deserved Catra's wrath because she 'abandoned' her and broke their promise, but she now realized that Catra, even though we understand her actions considering she is a victim of trauma, never took responsibility for her actions and blamed Adora for everything that went wrong in her life, when Adora tried incredibly hard to help her, and Adora herself let Catra put all the blame on her. This is the episode that Adora finally gives up on bending over backwards to help Catra. Even though Adora's decision is completely justified, it's still so heartbreaking to see something the two of them had that was so incredibly special get shattered.
While I agree that it's a powerful moment I don't think it's actually all that powerful for Adora so much as Catra while being a baby step for Adora.
Adora stands up to Catra plenty even if she hasn't argued back against this specific line before, the significance isn't in standing up to Catra but that by proxy she's starting ( in a very small way for the moment ) to stand up against the notion that she's responsible for everything and everyone. In rejecting the idea that she's responsible for Catra's actions she's taking the first tentative step down that path. If this was Adora standing up to an authority figure I'd absolutely be onboard for it being a big freaking deal for her but she's not there yet, but she's starting on that path so that's something.
Catra's challenge is acknowledging the role she's playing in her own suffering as well as those around her where this moment as well as a few others closely associated with it mark a decisive turning point for her character as she's no longer able to convince herself that she's not a co-author to her awful life story at this point.
Especially heartbreaking when in the previous episode we see the playful bond they had where they clearly liked each other 🥲
As a powerful moment it is, sadly it gets wasted later one.

hordak clutching his first ones crystal watching entrapta's work being destroyed is such an underrated moment nobody talks about
I love Angella so much...out of the many authority and mentor figures in the show, Angella is an outlier. Not because she's perfect, but because she acknowledges when she's wrong, and she grows. She's also the first authority figure in the show to express true, unconditional compassion for her children/adopted children. The first to see Adora as an actual person worth saving, rather than a tool or weapon to be exploited. The sheer contrast between Shadow Weaver's "You were nothing before I found you, and you will be nothing without me" and the humility of Angella's " *You* inspired *me* " is so beautiful and so heartbreaking
These last two episodes were actually an alternate reality that was triggered by the portal, not a simulation or something in Adora's mind. A reality which was centered around Catra and Adora and was their 'perfect' reality, so to speak.
I love this episode because they give Angella agency. In so many versions of this trope (fridging) they use the death of a character for just character development of the other characters (which is inherently sexist because usually the ‘fridges’ character is a woman and the living ones are men, making the woman just a prop in the development of men) but this is a perfect end to Angela’s character arc, which has been about her trying to hide her fear behind her daughter, then coming to terms with that, and then finally atoning for it in a way by saving another child in her care from havigg by to make the sacrifice and doing it herself. It’s so sad but so perfect.
Also, this is the first time I ever noticed that one of the robots Entrapta is with looks like Hordak(pointy ears, narrow jawline) and one looks like Scorpia (hair and big shoulders).

What's incredible is hordak and scorpia never even existed in this version of reality, they were both destroyed by the Portal, and yet deep down portal!Entrapta missed them.

Entrapta's "and then Catra-..Oh...I remember everything...I'm not really here.." is so heartbreaking too 🥺 like she's remembering Catra's ultimate betrayal of their friendship and then she says "everything will be right again". But she remembers she's being sent to Beast Island so things won't be right with her. I think that's why she says "It was nice being friends with you" 💔 ugh

normally we'd at least get the best friend squad being all cute but theyre fighting in season 4 ;-; that and catra being her worst self is the reason why i havent been able to rewatch this season (aside from Hero and Destiny 1 & 2), it just hurts :(
Lol when they were like "Catra crossed a line here that she can never uncross and Adora will actually fight her now" all I could do was cry laugh. I'm not ready to watch them watch the next two seasons.
Rewatching this was the first time Bow and Glimmer’s changes made sense. I never understood why they wouldn’t be fighters here too but if King Micah never died then the original princess alliance never collapsed because it was Angella’s guilt that lead to her being afraid to act and the alliance falling apart. Without that Glimmer would never have been put in the field to protect Bright Moon and Bow wouldn’t have left home to join the new rebellion.
I thought it was because by this point the Fright Zone is gone, meaning that as far as anyone is concerned it never even existed. No Fright Zone, no Horde, no war.
King Micah is played by Daniel Dae Kim, the same actor who voiced Hiroshi Santo, Asami's father in The Legend of Korra and will also play OZAI in the Live Action Avatar series on Netflix

Actually both Adora and Catra have been holding back while fighting. It's like intense sparring but never with the aim to kill.

Entrapta explained before she was sent to Beast Island that the portal would warp reality. This was not Adora’s mind, it was all of the characters existing in a warped reality. Entrapta explained it again before she faded away.

So Angella is an immortal being so I think it's safe to assume she doesn't die unless she's killed. The portal doesn't kill you as Entrapta said the one who enters it will be stuck between dimensions possibly forever and that's honestly so sad, imagine being Immortal and being stuck between dimensions alone.
@Books and Tv Geek Yeah thats so sad and brutal she'll most definitely go insane by being alone for all of eternity.
i think (and this is just my opinion) that the show wanted to portray to children the sadness of losing a loved one and grieving one's loss but in a representatively good way where everything would be like, "they're not really gone, they're up there watching over us" no one's gone.

Same, it feels unfortunate that they didn't do that. We never got that closure for Angella. They'll always keep her In their hearts but they speak like she's dead when she's littearly still out there. Don't get me wrong tho, I loved the direction they took with her story and how everyone handled the situation afterwards but it's just so sad and especially brutal for her.
20:29 that is actually incorrect. While the portal reality was a fake reality, the memories from it are real - everyone remembers what they experienced in the portal reality. And the last interaction between Glimmer and Angela in the fake reality was Glimmer apologizing to her mother.

My theory for what helps people in the portal's alternate reality remember their actual reality is strong emotions. For Scorpia it was the intense jealousy that she felt about Adora that made her start remembering. For Glimmer it was the grief for her father. For Bow it was his desire to be a warrior and his anxiety over his family not accepting that. It wasn't being a princess that made people more likely to remember, it was strong emotions that were tied to the memories that were evoked.

That's kind of the thing about this scenario: None of the princesses is really a blooded warrior. They are all pretty new to warfare, and their privileged upbringing kind of shines through their behavior. This is the turning point, sure, but nothing happens instantaneously, and their general naivety still remains until experience replaces it. The closest they have come to betrayal is Entrapta and, well...it's hard to accuse Entrapta of intentionally betraying them.
When I saw Micah look at the corner of his eyes, remembering reality, then turning and yelling, “Angela, I’m not-!!” I was like, holy cr*p, he’s not dead. You may recall he was sent to Beast Island, a virtual death sentence. He must still be alive on the island.

I always adore that Adora line (and yes, “adore” and “Adora”, I purposely put those words together)

STOP I'M ALREADY CRYING
I loved the show when I watched it for the first time. I was on my seat during this episode and then I just started crying. No show has affected me like this since I was a kid watching Avatar the Last Airbender. This episode is why. This episode left me feeling so many things and I knew there was no turning back. The writers, voice actors, animators, everyone, nailed it!
I need to point out that Entrapta made robot versions of Scorpia and Hordak. 😭
@Kenny: the planets where always there (they're actually moons). It was the stars that disappeared because Mara brought them to the empty Despondos dimension. And the stars briefly returned when Mara appeared 👀
Welp, not only did Glimmer lose her mother but Adora lost the only decent mother figure in her life. I love this whole moment though. Angella won’t let Adora sacrifice herself. I love that she tells Adora to “take care of each other” instead of just “Adora take care of Glimmer” because it implies that Adora should also let others help and support her as well, and that is just perfect.
“HeY aDoRa.” That will never not be so freakin cool. And the whole sequence that comes with it is just… oh boy. I honestly didn’t expect that there would be a more cathartic punch that Glimmer decking SW but… yeah. This one wins.
I love Catra, she’s my favorite character, but honestly I’m so proud of Adora. This whole show she’s been burdening herself with Catra’s actions, seeing Catra as her responsibility (thanks for that SW), but no more. Catra dug herself into this hole, and Adora isn’t going to try and help her climb out anymore. That’s something Catra is going to have want to do and strive for herself.

Because that’s how Adora thinks. But an attempt was made on Angella’s part, and I appreciate that.
Cute fact, if you pay attention to when they first fall into Dryll you can see that enttapta made a scorpia robot

i love catra and i always will but goddamn i hated her so much in this episode and when she was telling adora everything was her fault i remember thinking "oh god and adora is exactly the kind of person who would believe that too" and i was just so d o n e

As understandable as Catra is, she is absolutely her worst enemy and drags herself and others down with her.
nightmare catra was not actually herself, because she says "everything is worse since you came from that portal". the real catra has no idea that baby adora came from a portal. only adora does. she was a manifestation of all of adora's anxieties.
What a beautiful, heartbreaking end to season three. Can't wait for season 4 [spoilers spoilers spoilers] ...

So MANY things in this episode! I'll note two that people usually don't mention in the middle of all the MANY amazing ones. Not necessarily my favorite one, but still pretty good ones.
1. We actually glimpse Angela using the princess power, sparkling her fists like she's about to punch a b-----. It's actually interesting to note and think about on several levels, especially since we have her choosing to be brave later on.
2. Mara and Adora getting to see each other! Our first clear look of Mara, and I LOVE that she's not just a white blonde She-Ra. Yes we had hints of that before but I loved watching it for the first time and getting it shown clearly.

Really small adjustment to your theory Kenny - the planet they are on is Etheria, as opposed to Eternia, the home of the first ones. So it's Etheria that's in Despondos. It's really easy to get those mixed up, might have even just been a misspeak. Cant wait to see your reactions to seasons 4 and 5!

I hadn't thought about what you said about Adora usually holding back. I'd Heard that their fights demostrated Catra was actually a highly skilled fighter since she seems to be the only one to hold herself up in a hand to hand combat with She-Ra, but althought I do think She's skilled, it makes more sense that Adora was actually just holding back with her. Seems like a thing she would do.

The scene were Micah tries to tell Angela that he's real hits so hard after knowing that he's actually alive. But I still wonder about one thing: why does he think Glimmer is still a child in S4/S5 if he actually saw her as a pre-teen/teen in this alternate reality? Maybe Beast Island fucked with his memory?
I think Micah wouldn't trust a reality-warping portal to give him accurate information about the outside world. And I'm pretty sure no one fully remembers or is aware of what happened in the portal except for Catra and Adora.

I didn't really think about the fact that Micah saw Glimmer as a teenager in the portal reality until seeing this comment, but I think you're right that Micah wasn't in a position to take what he saw in the portal as an indication as to what reality was like outside of Beast Island at that time. I figured that he didn't know how much time had passed while he was on Beast Island because while on Beast Island you have to be hyper-vigilant about your mental and emotional state so as not to be driven insane by the island (on top of trying not to get eaten by the creatures), so Micah never had the chance to think about how much time was passing, he was in constant survival-mode. And as an extension to that, I doubt he would have even had the chance to really think about what happened in the portal reality (in order to realise that it might give him an indication of Glimmer's actual age now) because as soon as the portal was closed, he was back into survival mode.

Oh boy, we've made it through season 3. Absolutely amazing show through and through. I would also like to point out that Angella kisses Adora on her forehead before she leaves and the first thing Adora does when she tells Glimmer about what happened is place her forehead on Glimmer's. And I just... I can't y'all its too much *tearbending intensifies*
I've probably said this three times now but THE REAL SHERA STARTS NOW.
I love this last bit of the season and everything going forward in particular.
It's great storywriting from a psychological perspective.

Some explanation on the portal below.
The portal created an alternative reality which is slowly being consumed by the portal as it is collapsing in on itself.
It wasn't a simulation though it can feel like one. It's not necessarily the case that only people who are still alive were in that alternative reality. The best part of this reaction is when Kenny and Montana start to make wild predictions about the portals. It is so funny. I am very curious to know their reaction to what is going to happen during, and particularly at the end of season 4.

As much as I love Catra and it hurts seeing her suffer, I was kinda satisfied when Adora punched her and gave her a reality check. And I'm glad Adora is finally developing and freeing herself from Catra's BS.
When I thought she was dead, when they told her to take her to the area, I started crying so hard
I love Catra, but that punch was maybe the most satisfying one I've seen in animation.
For me, the most heartbreaking thing about Angella’s sacrifice, was that she and Glimmer were not on the best of terms, the last time she saw Glimmer, she disappeared right in front of her. And the saddest thing is, Glimmer never really got to say goodbye or I love you

25:36 the way catra and adora won't see each other in person at all in season 4 so we didn't get to see unleashed adora (The only time this happened was DT impersonating catra but not carta herself)
The sad thing is that Angella is immortal so she will forever be stuck in that portal, alone.

When you finish watching season 4 before anything else, you could the trailer to season 5, not have to but it be something to watch. The contents of which I won't spoil and more then anything the soundtrack should have your attention when the time is right
Montana actually mentioned in a live once that she constantly listens to Aj's version of Warriors
That "Hey Adora" at the end is always my favorite and strikes home who's singing it if they didn't already know, the animatics are amazing too, but those are for after the grand finale
Glimmer 😭😭😭 she lost her father and now she lost her mother, she may or may not find them anymore,she is stuck without her family, when all she wanted was to be with her family and friends!😢😭😭😭...and Glimmer told her ,,you will always be here to tell me what I can't do!"

I don’t know if this has been mentioned in the comments either here or on your patron, but there is a theory; the theory of madam Razz. The theory is that Queen Angela was flung into the past and went insane due to the portal and became Madame Razz. This is why madam Razz seems to not be all there and seems to know Adora before she meets her and knows of Mara…And what Adora has to do in this episode.
However this theory has not been confirmed at all in this series. Fans literally go nuts over this theory and in a later episode you’ll understand why this theory is so popular as there is an episode later in which we see Mara but that’s all I’ll say except that it is in season 4
