Hi from Sydney , Australia .My mum bought a new black with biscuit leather (natural not dyed ) 3.8ltr mk10 in november 1961, then replaced it with a new 1971 opalescent gunmetal grey , with dark oxblood leather 420G she kept it until early 2007 when a drunk in a truck ran into it and wrecked it. I had worked & saved as a kid plus as a teen i had sold my toy cars, trains, Meccano sets, slot cars & whatever else that I could , then saved some more , looked & then eventually bought a left hand drive 1965 4.2 liter mk10 in April 1975 in cream also with oxblood leather I kept it for many years , then sold it . I then bought a replacement low mileage 1 owner 1967 420G also in cream with oxblood leather which I still own, it's beautiful to drive, to look at & to own . I get as much happiness today in 2022 as I did when as an almost 6 year old I saw mum's brand new black one all those now 60 years ago. They are like Sinead O'Connor's song , Nothing Compares . Be it a Mk10 or a 420G they have Quality , Class and Durability .

My dad bought a 1969 420G in 1974. It was in British Racing Green and made a huge impact upon me as an 8yr old kid. I have longed for one since and have been lucky enough to own many XJ's, two XJS's and newer S Types.
This story is brilliant and its great to see such a beautiful car saved and enjoyed.

I owned and drove a 1967 Jaguar 420 (not a G,) in Washington, DC, back in the early 1990s and it was a blast to drive. Of course, the 420 is more like the Mk II/S Type (which it replaced,) and is much smaller than the 420G/Mk10 variants, and easier to drive, in some ways. (Though the handling was not much to write home about!) I enjoyed watching this clip and thank you for sharing your fond memories with us.

Thank you for sharing your story and that of the car, which despite all the “barge” reference, a lot of us have loved since our teenage years when a Mini was all we could aspire to. This car is no where near a” handful in the bends”. Only the English could describe the Marx 10 /420 G that way. Here in America the Mark 10 /420G is considered to handle incredibly well and sure footed in the bends.. perhaps because Americans like me have driven much larger cars and the Mark 10/420G was a revelation in handling for a mid size car which its category in the USA. Spend any time driving any American full size car and this chap wouldn’t be so harsh on the handling of his Jag.

My Late father had two 420G Automatic's consecutively in the then Rhodesia(now Zimbabwe). The first was British Racing Green with bottle green leather.. I still have fond memories of them.. At the time "Mercedes" were the chosen vehicles of the "well to do". I always considerered the German rivals to be overpriced(out there), overrated and under-powered, until I drove my late father's
subsequent 350SE and had to admit that the "Merc" could do things the Jag could never do.. Especially with regards to handling..!
Even the narrator admitted that on corners he had been on better handling, barges..!!

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!
