Thanks for the excellent review. Glad to see my bike on this channel. The Sirrus X 4.0 is versatile indeed - riding on gravel, dirt or single track is really a fun (the straight handlebar does work for control) or you can easily ride through the traffic for over 50 miles thanks to the upright, safer riding position. The ride is always extremely comfy and joyful. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a versatile bike, if speed is not your absolute priority.
I bought this bike a few days ago in storm grey. I preferred navy, but when my local shop called to offer me the storm grey I decided to take a look at it. It looks much better in person than the online photos...it’s really an amazing color contrast with the black tire/rim combination, so I warmed to the bike and the color after a short ride and took it home. I’m very happy with it and as others have noted, it’s a joy to ride. I have a 10 year old Trek 7300 that I’m keeping and had initially considered updating to a Trek Dual Sport 3 or 4, but decided on this much lighter Sirrus. My neighbors up and down the block have already commented on how nice it looks.
I have the '21 Trek Dual sport 3 and I'm grateful to have it but its a heavy bike at 30 lbs, the saddle is kinda hard and I never seem to use the left shifter. I'm thinking of getting this Sirrus X 4.0, it seems to have what I now think I want.
Sweet,.....just picked up a light blue one last night. Dealer showed me a white paint dot on the left side/drivers side crank which shows the recall has been done. Yay :)
After buying this and studying the endless list of bottom bracket.......em.....standards....I was relieved to find it is one of the most common and highly regarded: 68mm, threaded, BSA (English), external bearing, with a 24mm spindle diameter (standard Shimano). I can't say what exact brand the bike uses, but the standards are top notch and readily available if it breaks on a long tour.
Really nice bike being looking to buy it here in Ireland for the last few months but its completely sold out. Manufacturing has stopped cause of the coronavirus I've been told. Can't buy it anywhere in Europe online even. Shops here are saying it will be October by the time they are restocked and they can't guarantee that either I'm getting told. Great video James...the best one I've seen yet online, good job👍
Great vid, very useful information. I have that identical bike in my stable. Its really versatile and easily attacks the Hills of Northwest Georgia. On the flats of the Silver Comet it’s a constant 16 mph plus , not bad for a single chainring. Once again thanks for sharing, keep up the good work.
Excellent review! Thanks for all the great info. Love the bike. I’d buy it right away but I can’t find one in my area. I found one but on the other color. Not for me. I guess no choice but to wait for the 2021 models.
Thanx for review James. I think I like this bike over the new Trek FX Sport 5 carbon 2022 because of the price. The new fx sport 5 is awesome but this Sirrus X 4.0 weights less and it has good features for $500 less.
I got the 3.0 and the only 2 things I would replace is the chainring jumping from 42T to 44T and the handlebar for a carbon one to absorb high frequency vibrations.
@jamesthebikeguy, WOW, That's a beautiful bike...It looks more like a road bike than a gravel bike. I may have to look into getting a Sirrus-X as a next bike purchase. Thanks for the presentation.
Wow very tempting. Love the color and I wonder if that suspension would be enough for my type of riding. Either want this or something like Dual Sport 4. This is actually in stock near me!
This color is in stock near you?! I'd buy it tomorrow if I were you , I thought these had all been sold out and now the next year's colors are not so nice. I really love this too, best looking bike I've seen from the ones I've been looking at for a month now, but never made it to Europe this color.
It was a good stream. They covered a fair bit of content an interesting to watch. I am surprised at how little engagement they had with their viewers but cool non the less.
Great video thanks, one comment, those welds on the frame...some of them look like chewing gum that was painted over, my giant mtb from 1993 has cleaner joints. Do you know if there will be any updates to the X 4.0 or X 5.0 for 2021, and others than a carbon frame do you think the X 5.0 is worth the $500 premium?
Hi James, thanks a lot for such informative video on this bike. What about its climbing on steep mountaneous roads, will it easily climb up by a single gear in front on being seated as also whether or not this bike category has tubeless wheels & tyres or you have to go for swap entirely as per choice of same? Kindly do throw some light on these issues for biking enthusiasts across the globe before going for its purchase, if interested thereupon. Happy Riding! !
Not the case, it was a assembly error in the crank at the factory. No parts needed, just a revised assembly specs. Thus dealers are able to fix the error during the final assembly and it only affected bikes that went out before the factory error was noticed.
Ordered the Sirrus X 3.0 in April, on back order . Heard about the issues with the pedal, but I found that you do not get as much bike features from Specialized for the price you pay, compared to Trek , Giant etc so I cancelled my order and got the Trek Dual Sports 3 instead
Great Review & Beautiful Bike ! Would I be able to swap out that groupset for a Shimano Deore 1x12 Groupset with a shimano crankset as well. Thanks for the advice !
Hello James great review. I’m trying to decide between this and the regular 4.0. I really like the silver flake of the 4.0 and the carbon frame but I like the versatility of the x4.0 with its tire set up. Can the 4.0 accommodate the same tire setup as the x4.0? And for a future upgrade would it be possible to swap to a 1x on the 4.0?
Hi, nice review. Can u give me some advice. I wanna buy trekking bike and im choosing between Sirrus X 4.0 2021 and SCOTT SUB CROSS 10 MEN 2021. Im amateur and cant really find what is main difference beetween those bikes. Can u help me with your advice pls.
But the one bike you like from the dealer you want to work from. Pretty much all bikes are nice, but they need maintenance and care and you want to purchase from a dealer you like
just hit the subscribe button great review / delivery. i ordered one of these in june from local dealer arrives late august ( thank you covid). one concern i have....all the written reviews i have read say the crank falls off the left pedal falls off specialized is aware of the prob and working to fix it. so i already paid for the bike and learned after of all the issues. can i upgrade crank and pedals or do i have to settle for the alleged front powertrain.
Congrats on the new bike. Don't worry about the crank issue, it was a factory assembly error and has been remedied. When the bikes come into the dealer they do a re-assembly and the crank is fine. Specialized had instructions and a fix well over a month ago and its pretty much a non issue for any new bike. Any bike out in the wild its a free fix, so no worries there either.
Bro please help me decide what hybrid bike to choose between giant roam 1,trek dual sport 4 and this specialized, which one would be smoother durable and nice to ride?if there is such thing
I'm finding many reviews on different Sirrus bikes that their left crank falls off? Sirrus bikes look great and so are their specs, but this pedal defect sounds like a safety issue... Should I look at other manufacturers instead?
Does anyone know if this bike has a lock out on the front suspension? If it does not that would be the only reason for me not to buy i wonder what you think?
It does not, but thats because its not suspending the bike, rather the rider. No pedal bob or anything because of where the Future shock is placed, so no need for a lockout.
Just got the 2.0, pretty seasoned rider but I’m moving to downtown soon and I needed something to commute with. Rode about 2 miles and the chain flew off 3 times. Once jumping off a curb, another just on a dirt path, and again when I carried it over a fence and set it down and the chain flew off. I fixed the limiters which were slightly off but the problem was still there. Could it be the chain is too short? There’s a quick link on it so I’m thinking they removed a link or a couple for some reason at the shop. Might just replace the rear derailleur with a clutch.
Great video. Wow, 23 pounds for that bike is pretty good. Especially with those big tires. I'm surprised that they went with a single 40t chain ring instead of a 46/30t double. IMO that would have been much better. Unfortunately that would would have added more weight. BTW, are they using a square tapered bottom bracket ?
I disagree for the X version 1x is ideal. Plus I wouldn't buy a double hybrid now anyway. If someone wanted a 2x drivetrain they still have the standard Sirrus 4.0
Anyone know if you can get real service manuals for these bikes? $1,300 and the online manuals consists of timeless nuggets like "be careful riding at night as you lose control and hit a tree." or "Your bike is made of metal, and metal may fatigue..and break". "Be careful riding in the rain..as you may lose control and have to eat apple sauce through a straw the rest of your life". "This bike causes cancer..in California.
Specialized are seriously ripping people off at this point. Look at the specs on their latest bikes, Sunrace and MicroSHIFT components and alloy fork on a £700 bike? The next model up is £1,199.00, has a carbon fork and still has a Sunrace cassette... What a joke of a company.

Agreed
Mine came with a 44 chainring and I will probably get a larger one down the road.

I just got one and love it. Between the seat, the future shock and the frame, you can feel a bit of spring to it. Very comfortable.
Awesome, enjoy the riding!
Great straight forward, succinct & thorough review. Thanks so much. The background music was just enough so as not to distract.
Glad you enjoyed it
Sweet,.....just picked up a light blue one last night. Dealer showed me a white paint dot on the left side/drivers side crank which shows the recall has been done. Yay :)
Just got this bike early this morning, FANTASTIC! (Light weight, really love it) use it at fish creek park-Calgary)
Congrats have fun!

This one or Trek Fx4?
Which one is overall better?
Good reveiw James, i thought you would be better received in livestream chat last night.
It was a good stream. They covered a fair bit of content an interesting to watch. I am surprised at how little engagement they had with their viewers but cool non the less.
Definitely better than a gravel bike.

Hello sir how much the price of it.
Some of the Sirrus bikes have a manufacturing defects, Specialized are conducting recall on these bikes
Not the case, it was a assembly error in the crank at the factory. No parts needed, just a revised assembly specs. Thus dealers are able to fix the error during the final assembly and it only affected bikes that went out before the factory error was noticed.
Do you know if this fork is tappered or straight??? Tanks, very nice video and very nice bike to.
Nice review. thanks! Any idea when will the 2021 model will be available?
Not sure. I have not heard about a new version
Can you do a comparison to the 2021 Trek DS 4?
Ordered the Sirrus X 3.0 in April, on back order . Heard about the issues with the pedal, but I found that you do not get as much bike features from Specialized for the price you pay, compared to Trek , Giant etc so I cancelled my order and got the Trek Dual Sports 3 instead
How do you like the trek dual sport 3? Looks like a good competitor for sirrus x 3.0
These new Sirrus X models really stoke my adventurous side, just like Surly does. Toss on some knobbier tires and you could really go out of your way!
Agreed
I'm in the market for a bike mainly for urban riding. Looking at the Sirrus 4 and Sirrus x 4.0. Which would you recommend?
Do the 2021 version have a recall for the pedals or was that 2020?
Sublime.
Great Review & Beautiful Bike ! Would I be able to swap out that groupset for a Shimano Deore 1x12 Groupset with a shimano crankset as well. Thanks for the advice !
Yeah
I seem to like previous years colours better than 2023's colours.
The 4.0 cannot take anywhere near as big of a tire. That's the reason they're still running a alloy frame on the X version of the bike.
So how does the frame differ on the sirrus 4.0 and the X5.0 as it looks like to be the same carbon frame as the 4.0
Both use full carbon frame.
Great Video! This bike or the 2021 Sirrus x 3.0?

I did... th-cam.com/video/fYEYfga-gBA/w-d-xo.html
@@Jamesthebikeguy I mean the new one, it came out a few days ago, and is the 2021 instead of 2020 model😊😃
Picking up my 4.0 2021 tomorrow, not sure why they jacked up the prices though?
, I’m undecided between 4.0 x or diverge e5 evo
James, have you had a chance to review the sirrus x5.0?
Not yet, I have my eyes pealed for one to come available.
I like everything but the groupset wished they went with a 12 or 11 speed deore. 😕
I suppose. 10spd is just fine.
Which is a better hybrid bike Trek Dual Sport 4 or Specialized Sirrus X 4.0? I’m looking to purchase one.
Depends how much off pavement riding you intend. More off pavement, then Dual Sport, more than 50% on pavement, go Sirrus
What kind of bike stand is that?
Cool Bike!
Bro please help me decide what hybrid bike to choose between giant roam 1,trek dual sport 4 and this specialized, which one would be smoother durable and nice to ride?if there is such thing
Same question but in my area (Maine/NE) bike shops won't even let you Pre/Backorder the DS 4...they simply say it is "sold out".
How much is this bike?ty
Hi James between trex and specialized bikes which one you prefer?
Between the two brands? Gosh thats Coke vs. Pepsi. Between two specific models is easy to choose but not brands as a whole
Jamesthebikeguy how about trex fx2 disc vs specialized Sirrus 2.0 ?
Whenever u have time james let me know which one , im only interesting in these 2 , thanks
I'm finding many reviews on different Sirrus bikes that their left crank falls off? Sirrus bikes look great and so are their specs, but this pedal defect sounds like a safety issue... Should I look at other manufacturers instead?
There was a recall and it has been sorted. A assembly issue at the factory on the early bikes. Anything sold now has the revised assembly method
@@Jamesthebikeguy ah great, thank you!

Nice bike. Unfortunately, the pedal arm recall is disappointing. Not Specialized’s fault but annoying.
The issue is fixed for all new bikes.
Specialized has taken care of this, luckily not a a big deal.

It's thru axle. Pretty quick release IMO

A chain guide up front or a clutch rear derailleur in the rear will help limit that from happening. Surprised it's an issue for you though
