    Great video. The problem with a lot of camo patterns is that they look great up close. Move back 50 to 100 yards and it turns into a dark colored blob. I actually watched where a guy took a camera and hung a very popular brand of camo shirt in a tree and then a red and white Hawaiian print shirt. Took a photo in black and white and the camo stood out where the Magnum PI shirt disappeared.
    Deer can see in the blue spectrum but can't see red so maybe Grandpa's red square print flannel broke him up just fine :)

    So not to knock your video. Most people that pay for the high end camo are paying for a better clothing system and not for the actual camo pattern. I will wear Sitka everyday day and be comfortable over buying cheap clothing and getting out of the stand because I am freezing

      I agree, I'm in the manufacturing world and have produced hunting clothes for brands. Totally true what you said. I kept it purely to camo pattern since those same brands talk a lot about the "science" they use to design their camo. Plus I want to do a separate video on exactly what you brought up and didn't want to combine them in one for the sake of video length. Thanks for the comment and feedback 👍

      @@Kodiak-Outdoors we're mandated to wear I think it's 800 square inches of blaze orange or hunter pink, basically a vest and hat of some sort. Camo is virtually forbidden, can't do orange camo either legally. Division of wildlife should be the next 3 letter agency to dissolve.

    Great video :) One of the biggest things I've noticed from hunting deer for many years is camo patterns don't really matter that much when it comes to deer( from my experience ) growing up I wore the stereotypical mossy oak and etc and these days I just where a good pair of OD Green pants and a under armor brown hoodie, I like to hunt the old fashion way where I find a spot where there is a lot of deer traffic and I find a nice tree to sit by and I stay extremely still and I've tagged a lot of deer this way, so with all that being said In my opinion and In the circumstances I've been in camo patterns for deer isn't too much of a key factor compared to all the other factors. Also love Fred Bear

      Same here brotha, I grew up on realtree deep woods camo I think it's called, and have had great success with the stuff. I also use the same method of hunting, scout an area, find a good spot that I can either brush in and clear a few small shooting lanes. I've hunted like this on the ground for around 20 years and have tried ground blinds, but they're either always too noisy, dont blend well and always spook the deer, no matter how early I put them out. So after only tryin 2 I quit with those and like doin my own makeshift blinds that are real low profile and all natural vegetation. Also like you stated iv gotten to be the same way with camo and dont even by it anymore, a good pair of brown or green dickies and a natural colored top seems to work just fine. God bless from ole Carolina and good luck this season.

    The best camo pattern I use is play the wind and be quiet and still as possible I’ve killed deer in everything from blue jeans to od greens I don’t think it matters much just play the wind in your favor and keep movement to a minimum just Mr two cents

    I've hunted deer for 42 years straight. The best camo for deer is no camo. Plan solid black, brown, or green works far better than any camo pattern. Try it, you will see.

      @@Kodiak-Outdoors I learned it on my own. I was fortunate to hunt 450 acres surrounded by miles of good timber and crop land that went a couple of miles on either side by myself for ten years. Lots of deer on this place, so I spent time experimenting to see what would work the best and I learned a lot.
      I tried several ways to get close and hidden and eventually found out two things. Deer don't care what you smell like, so I completely stopped using cover up scents or attractants, and I give no attention to wind anymore since they don't care.
      The second thing I found out, was plain colors won't spook deer. I call it invisible mode. and
      When wearing camo, I get spotted in a tree clear out to150 yards away. At that distance, a person looks solid anyway, but I was still spotted. When I finally started using plan colors, I never had a deer look up at me.
      I took a 170 4/8 ten point at 38 yards with a bow wearing a green long sleeve T-shirt, and light green pants, with no scent or coverup, from a tree stand about 10 feet off the ground. Had 5 deer around me at the moment too. Some standing next to my tree.
      I ground hunt a lot and walk up to them and shoot them with a bow wearing solid colors. Or sit along a field, or even out in the center of a field and wait.
      It's a lot less stressful not having to worry what I wear or what I smell like.
      My neighbor hunts like I do now, but once in a while he urges into the stereo type hunting and it fails on him every time.
      I just tell him, "I told you that stuff doesn't work." and he says "yea, but I wanted to try because everyone talks about it so much."
      I just tell him "talk is cheap." Experience says don't follow the leaders." Just go hunting.
      Yes, maybe old Fred Bear would have been proud of me. But he was a little before my time.

    • @antichrist_revealed
      @antichrist_revealed ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimlahey3919 I have pictures of me after shooting deer bow hunting in solid colors. One is 170 4/8, another is 140 7/8. Others vary.
      When My neighbor started hunting with me, he asked what to wear, and I said the same thing to him.
      He asked about orange for gun season. I told him deer can't see orange, nothing to worry about. I've even bow hunted wearing orange because law makes me do during some seasons.
      I have sit out in the open on a chair in a bean field and shot deer wearing orange. They never saw me or placed me as being there.
      Solid colors work best for deer. Whether in a tree or on the ground, which I do quite often and when stalking.
      Yes, I have walked up to deer and shot them at 20 or less yards in solid colors. Yes, I even showed my neighbor how to do it, and yes I have one hunt on video where I walked up to a do that was laying down and shot her at 30 yards. But it's in VHS. I have often thought about converting it and posting it.
      So no, I don't have any evidence that you can see, but I have many witnesses including game wardens who know me and have even watched me.
      Like I said above, try it sometime. Then maybe you'll see why it works.

    • @Kodiak-Outdoors
      @Kodiak-Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it makes your camo more dynamic when it comes to lighting because of the 3d nature. I would say if you pick a good color of 3d leafy suit for your area it should help. In fact even First Lite talked about their camo issues and making it too dark for western states. so color, shade of how dark it is really matters first but yes I think 3D will help. Thanks for taking the time to comment and I hope you enjoyed the video. Best of luck to yuu this season.

    My stands are 25’ and above. And I’m seldom picked up with slow movements.(not always). Seems the higher I am the more I can get away with. What’s there 3 dimensional view??? Is it straight above there head also?? Just curious.

      Great question, I would imagine the angle of the Y axis to be similar to humans but with much worse vision as they have 20/60 vision which some say could be as bad as 20/100 means the higher stand should help. Add on the fact that natural predators from above are only humans and that they use their nose especially close to the ground during the rut makes hunters in a stand in a fantastic position.

    • @Kodiak-Outdoors
      @Kodiak-Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoxAPT Timber seems like it is a darker pattern and might work well in North Florida as Edge has a very East Coast/Midwest Fall in a treesrand look to it. I might look at Kuiu Verde as it's a high contrast camo with more green in it as well as Sitka subalpine. As you guys have more green in your environment year round. In general they all will work but that's my general 2cents without having hunted there. I hope that helps and thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.

    Everybody is getting in on the camo vs deer vision videos these days lol, and everybody seems to have a slightly different idea of it, which tells me we really truly don’t know exactly, how deer see, people hunt in all different camo patterns all different plaids and lots of different color solids, and they kill deer in it all, my dad used to hunt in blue jeans red plaid shirt and a tan vest with a blaze orange or the old duck camo Jones cap depending on if he was bow or gun hunting, he killed tons of deer, in my experience it hasn’t really mattered to much what I was wearing, but more what my surroundings were, the debate about what camo is the best makes me laugh because it all depends on what your surroundings are, I love camo, it’s really interesting to see all the different patterns people have created, but you don’t need it you can hunt and kill in about anything, I’m personally gonna keep it to the natural earth type colors if I’m not wearing camo, but I know guys that kill deer in blue shirts and blue jeans in close with bows so hey hunt in what you got is all I can say lol
