It may seem easy, but lots of my students, who are very advanced with their English skills, still have problems with accurately pronouncing the three different -ed endings to words. Can you do it?
Remember, you don't NEED an RP British accent to speak English well... There are loads of accents out there! I'm just here to help people who have a love for modern versions of RP.

FAQ: a lot of people are asking why I said Germany “were” eliminated, and not “was”
As a non-native, something you will eventually come to learn is that spoken English has many different rules to the written style of English you will learn from your teachers in school. It’s much more frequent to say “were” in this context nowadays.
We tend to “break the rules” when we speak. However, the rules aren’t really being broken at the same time. We are referring to Germany with relation to the TEAM, not just the country alone.
Please don’t ask this question again 😂
ETJ English Thanks for answering, I saw that after I've written q ;D
I've noticed that but I've got the meaning by the context so it was easy to understand that it was about the whole team.
Well, what comes around goes around, and England were eliminated too, after a while... Let's take it lightly, as they say, the ball is round...
At least we exceeded our expectations and didn’t embarrass ourselves
🙏
Words ending with my name? Already love it
Ed Ney Braga so how to pronounce your name? id, t, or d ? 😂
haha actually, in my native language (brazilian portuguese) we pronouce it with a "dj" sound. My name sounds almost like the word "edge", in english :)
... AND BRAG A, SOUNDS LIKE "BREGA" ? A HA HA - FROM BRAZIL.
Ed? Interesting name
I couldn't be happier to see you interacting with Brazilians. As an English teacher myself, I've always seen my Ss struggling to pronounce the "ed" sound properly (specially due to the Northeaster accent). Thanks a LOT for sharing it.
I love British accent, And i love hearing your voice and learning British English at the same time. I'm browsing all of your past videos and i'm in love with it. Your such an inspiration Elliott. Thank you.
eating and watching your videos wasn't the brightest idea I've had, I kept pronouncing everything with my mouth full :D

You pronounce Portuguese words very well. Congratulations!
Wow Thank you Eliot for this amazing video. i asked how to sound -ed pronounciation before and you made it!!!
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! I have never thought of explaining the eds this way. I am definitely going to send this video to my students and make sure I am practising this as much as all of them!!
Hey there! I'm a fan of your channel. This is the very first time I'm writing on it. Am also a Brazilian English teacher and before I wasn't quite a fan of British pronunciation. But the way you speak and teach is music to my ears. Keep up the good work. ;) :D
Your lesson is very important with clear voice and pronunciation and accent. So keep going on to us.
I love you ETJ...you've really helped my British English speaking life.
Awwn so kind from you to answer a Brazilian question. Indeed we have a big problem with "ed" sounds. Thanks a lot teacher. Have an amazing sunny weeeked! Cheers 😍😘☘
Hi Elliott, nice video as always :). I was wondering if you can make a video about how we should pronounce the name of the countries. It would be really cool and helpful. Thank you so much for your lessons, they have helped me improve my pronunciation like no other teacher/video/audiovisual material has. ☺☺
I'm still learning word family, high frequency word and word bank to upgrade my pronunciation. And of course watched your great videos. Thanks Teacher Elliot.
A lot to practice with those sounds! I used to pronounce the "ed" sound at the end of the verbs with just one sound, the "id". Time to practice! Thank you Elliot, and good luck to England!
I Just found your TH-cam channel today, and I'm really greatful for that! I'm from Brazil, I'll be an english Teacher and I love to study different accents, and personally, the British one is my favourite so I'm working in it and you're helping me so much! Thank you so much!
Very helpful info from a young master, my English has been wrecked by many years of living in New Jersey. USA, My speech has been time and again recognized as a New Jersey accent by others who live in the USA. Incredibly, I am not conscious of it. 😄😄
Hi, ETJ, have been following your channel for months, it's really helpful! thanks from China!
I'm improving my pronunciation with your videos, they are very clear and help me a lot, thank you very much! By the way, you pronounced the brazilian name correct, wel done!

Thank you so much. I have been taught about it very bad when I was a student so this is a practice I really need as a daily challenge. It is actually still very bad taught in many Spanish schools. 😩
I already told you but I want to repeat it: I love the sound of your voice and your pronunciation ..... I'd listen to you for hours. Do you know that "automatically generated English subtitles" have very few uncertainties about your words? (Almost totally written in clear graphics). Thanks for another helpful video 👍😃

Thank you for this lesson. It is very helpful.
Thanks Elliot for this ed-video! Just one thing still a bit unclear to me, that is how to pronounce words end with /k/. There’s a comment down below saying that it should be pronounced as /t/, but it says /id/ in the dictionary, i.e. naked. It would be great
if you can explain a bit on that! Cheers!
Thanks for your clear explanation. There are some rules I have forgotten.
Thank you! I always pronounced words like "hoped" and "laughed" with a d sound like in "planned". I didn't know that it was pronounced so softly more like a t...
Thanks, Eliot.
Your videos are very useful and effective indeed.
I've never had any problems learning to distinguish and pronounce the ed sound in.past participles, but listening to native speakers, I've noticed that words like "beloved" and "'learned", do not seen to follow the same pronunciation rules .
Would you make a video on them, please? That would be great so thanks in advance and belated Happy birtdhay!
Ps. I had never, ever posted a comment on you tube before, but after your videos, it was wortwhile.
Keep going and thanks again.

Hi Elliott! Is this Voice Agreement for British Pronunciation? Thanks for sharing so wonderful lessons!
Brilliant video. In your introduction you said "I hoped I pronounced that correctly, I'm sorry if I pronounced it wrong". Should this not be wrongly, or incorrectly? This could be confusing to learners. Keep up the good work.
Hi Elliott, you're an amazing qualified tutor. I'd like to learn about the difference between difficulty in or difficulty with ? Or are they same? Could u please make it Clear for me? Thanks in advance🙏
This is an amazing video.
I am eternally grateful for this. The best one so far.
By the way, I have one question.
Although we should pronounce the "ED" ending as "ID" when the last sound is "t" or "d" I keep hearing the ending being pronounced as "ED" instead of "ID".
Are my ears deceiving me?
Thank you in advance!
Have a lovely day

Maybe I should start learning Portuguese? 🤓🤓
Definitely, you must do it!
Anecdote: People in Brazil had a problem
Many things aren't pronounced like they are spelled
If a word ends in 't' syllable, then the past tense is 'tid' syllable
- Want
- Eliminate
/t/ or /p/ sound
- Laugh --> Laughed /ft/
- Hope --> /pt/
/n/ ends in /nd/
- Cleaned
- Planned
